He relied on its navigation (导航) app for every route, even the short walk from his classroom to the school library. “Why bother memorizing streets,” he would say, “when my phone knows them all?” His friends teased him about it, but Leo saw nothing wrong with letting technology do the work. One autumn Saturday, Leo joined a school hiking trip to West Hill. Confident in his phone’s guidance, he ignored the paper map the teacher handed out and followed his screen along a narrow trail. Halfway up, the battery died suddenly; the cold weather had drained (消耗) it faster than expected. Leo shook the phone, pressed every button, but the screen stayed black. For the first time, he had no idea where he was. The trail ahead split into three paths. Leo’s heart raced, and he almost panicked until an elderly man collecting fallen branches nearby noticed him. “Lost, young man?” the man asked calmly. Leo nodded. Instead of simply pointing at one path, the man sat down and showed him how to read the land: where moss (苔藓) grew thicker (which is usually found on the north side of trees), how the afternoon sun cast shadows toward the east, and which trail led downhill by following the sound of running water. “A phone tells you where to go,” the man said with a gentle smile, “but the world itself tells you where you are, if you pay attention.” Leo followed his instructions, observing the trees, listening to the stream, and feeling the wind on his face. Forty minutes later, he reached the meeting point safely. His classmates were staring at their screens, complaining that their signals kept dropping. Leo looked at the golden hills around him, and for the first time, he truly saw them. That evening, Leo did not rush to recharge his phone first. Instead, he sat by the window and drew a small map of the hike from memory, marking every turn with his own hand. He realized that a map drawn from experience would never go dark. 25. Why did Leo ignore the paper map the teacher gave to him? A. He completely trusted his phone’s navigation. B. He found the map too confusing to understand. C. He had already memorized the paths along the hill. D. He preferred hiking all by himself without any map. 26. What can we learn from Paragraph 3? A. Basic survival skills are of great importance for every student. B. Much dependence on phones may blind us to nature around us. C. Paper maps help hikers to read and understand the land quickly. D. Strangers are always willing to offer directions to the lost people. 27. What will Leo possibly do in his next hiking trip? A. Take a camera with him to record the beautiful scenery. B. Watch natural signs carefully to make sure of the direction. C. Ask the man who helped him to work as his personal guide. D. Advertise his newly drawn map to his classmates for money. C When animals get sick, they cannot tell us exactly how they feel, making emotional pain in them even harder to detect. However, through careful observation, brain imaging, and experiments, researchers are learning that animals may suffer from some of the same emotional problems as humans. People troubled by their feelings often visit a psychiatrist (精神科医生). Likewise, new research shows veterinarians (兽医) can also offer treatment for mental illness in pets. Nicholas Dodman, a well-known veterinarian who was influenced deeply by his mother in his early life, shared the same belief that animals have thoughts and emotions similar to our own, which directly shaped his career. Dodman has found it difficult to convince (使信服) other scientists that animals suffer from human-like mental illness. Because animals can’t talk to us about their feelings, many scientists doubt that animals have emotions anywhere near as complex as ours. Yet modern technology adopted in Dodman’s research helps reveal the similarities. For example, some dogs who display compulsive behaviors, similar to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD, 强迫症) in humans, may repeatedly suck on blankets, bite their sides, or even chew on rocks. Studies find that these dogs are much more likely to have an abnormality in a particular gene, and humans with OCD often have an abnormality on the same gene. Other similar animal-human links have been found. Older cats that show signs of confusion and loss of sleep may have a form of Alzheimer’s disease, a condition that affects some elderly people. Dodman remarks that this research is only the beginning of understanding the connection. Animals can also develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from frightening experiences, the same condition seen in soldiers returning from war. After a gunshot injury, a dog named Elsa became so fearful of separation from her owner that she kept him awake all night. Gina, a German shepherd who smelled for bombs during the Iraq war, struggled with terror of people and loud noises after returning home. Both Elsa and Gina began to feel better when they received psychiatric treatment for PTSD. Dodman suggests four important things to help protect our pets’ mental health. First, make sure they live in an interesting environment with plenty of exciting activities and toys. Second, feed them a healthful diet. Third, give them lots of exercise. Fourth, empathize with them—try to understand their thoughts and feelings and the things they might need to be happy and healthy. After all, if animals can share our emotional struggles, they surely deserve our understanding and care in return. 28. Nicholas Dodman believes that ________. A. dogs can tell exactly about their feelings when they get sick B. pets with mental illnesses often cannot get proper treatment C. animals can suffer from mental illness similar to that of humans D. scientists usually use modern technology to carry out experiments 29. What can we learn from the passage? A. A boring lifestyle is the main cause of mental illness in pets. B. Old cats with loss of sleep must have developed Alzheimer’s. C. Some dogs share the same gene problems as humans with PTSD. D. Understanding animals’ needs can support their mental well-being. 30. Which would be the best title for the passage? A. Animal Emotions Are Not Set in Stone B. Mental Health Care Isn’t Just for People C. New Ways to Treat Pets’ OCD and PTSD D. Similar Genes Found in Pets and Humans D Technology seems to discourage slow, immersive reading (沉浸式阅读). Reading on a screen, particularly a phone screen, tires the eyes and makes it harder to keep one’s place, so online writing tends to be more list-like than print. The cognitive (认知的) neuroscientist Mary Walt recently argued that this more skimmable way of reading is producing “an invisible, game-changing transformation” in how readers process words, because the brain’s reading circuit (神经回路) now prefers the rapid absorption of information to the deeper skills of critical analysis. We should not overplay this danger. All readers skim. Skimming is a skill learnt in childhood. From about the age of nine, our eyes skim the page, reading only a quarter of the words properly and filling in the gaps by guessing. There’s nothing new in the fear about shorter attention spans; so far it has proved a false alarm. “Many critics have been worried about attention spans lately and see very short stories as signs of cultural decline,” the American author Selvin Brown wrote. “No one ever said that poems were evidence of short attention spans.” And yet the Internet has certainly changed the way we read. For a start, there is more to read, because more people than ever are writing. Digital writing is meant for rapid release and response: an online article begins to form comments as soon as it is published. This type can be interactive and fun, but it often treats other people’s words as materials, quickly harvested for something else. Everyone talks over everyone else, eager to be heard. Perhaps we should slow down. Reading is more often than not promoted as a social good and a source of personal achievement, yet this advocacy (倡议) often stress “enthusiastic”, “passionate” or “eager” reading, none of which suggests slow, quiet absorption. For a slow reader, a writing can only be fully understood by engaging oneself in the words and slowly understanding a line of thought. The slow reader is like a swimmer who stops counting the laps and simply enjoys how his body feels and moves in water. The human need for this kind of deep reading is too tenacious for any new technology to destroy. We often assume technological change cannot be stopped and happens in one direction, so older media like “dead-tree” books are kicked out by newer, more virtual forms. However, in practice, older technologies can coexist with new ones. The Kindle has not killed off the printed book any more than the car has killed off the bicycle. We still want to enjoy slowly-formed ideas and carefully-chosen words. Even in a fast-moving age, there is time for slow reading. 31. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs? A. Skimming will destroy readers’ ability to get the main idea quickly. B. Worries about shorter attention spans have proved to be reasonable. C. Selvin Brown believes that short stories are signs of cultural weakening. D. We can understand a writing even when reading only a quarter of the words. 32. What might the author agree to? A. “Dead-tree” books have completely disappeared with the rise of e-books. B. New technology has greatly reduced the number of young online readers. C. Readers can fully understand a text by immersing themselves in the words. D. Digital writing aims to discourage public comments as soon as it comes out. 33. What does the underlined word “tenacious” in Paragraph 5 most probably mean? A. deep-rooted B. complete C. well-known D. changeable 34. What is the author’s purpose in writing this passage? A. To argue that slow deep reading still has its place in the fast age. B. To persuade people to spend more time on digital critical reading. C. To suggest practical ways for online writers to create digital works. D. To compare the differences between screen reading and print reading. 第四部分 书面表达(共20分) 八、阅读表达(第48-50题每小题2分,第51题4分,共10分) 阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。 Family fights are never pleasant. Whether you are dealing with a loud sister or a stubborn mom or dad, the situation can be bad. What if it could be different? What if family fights and conflicts could be turned into opportunities to become closer? What if problems could be solved with everyone walking away feeling more deeply cared for and loved? Family fighting is, on one level, about power. Someone is telling someone else what to do. In a short moment, emotions can be brought out and the fight is on. You can go down that old road or you can try something different. In any fight, you have a need to be listened to and understood. People raise their voices and shout at each other because they’re not being listened to. It’s totally unconscious. You want your mom or dad to listen and understand. But you always seem to forget the person you’re fighting with has the same need to be listened to. So if you can put aside your need for a few minutes, the situation will change quickly. Give the other person some time to express his or her feelings, and you will earn your turn to be listened to. And while you are listening, you have to listen for the right information. When people are upset, they can’t express what they are feeling truthfully. They often use exaggerated (夸张的) language. For example, “You always do this.” The best way to do it in emotional situations is to focus on the emotional signals behind them. For instance, a statement like “You never listen to me.” might actually show a deeper need: “I feel ignored and need your attention and care.” By shifting your attention from the specific wording to what the other person’s needs or fears are in that moment, you can respond in a more proper way that can help avoid family fights. But if the situation starts to get out of hand, it would be wise to just calm down and leave the problem until later because many fights happen at the wrong time. The situation will die down quickly, usually in less than 30 seconds. You can either move on to problem solving or reach an agreement to work on it at a better time. This way, everyone will feel respected and listened to, even when there is conflict. Emotions will be understood and respected, and it’ll bring your family closer together. 35. What are family fights about on one level? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 36. Why do people raise their voices and shout at each other in a fight? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 37. 【答案】25. A 26. B 27. B 【解析】 【导语】本文主要讲述了Leo过度依赖手机导航,在徒步旅行手机没电迷路后,得到一位老人指点学会观察自然迹象,最终明白依靠经验和自然比依赖电子设备更可靠的故事。 【25题详解】 根据第二段“Confident in his phone’s guidance, he ignored the paper map the teacher handed out and followed his screen along a narrow trail.”可知,Leo忽略老师给的纸质地图,是因为他完全信任手机的导航引导,认为手机知道所有路线。 【26题详解】 根据第三段“‘A phone tells you where to go,’ the man said with a gentle smile, ‘but the world itself tells you where you are, if you pay attention.’”可推知,老人教导Leo关注自然世界而非仅依赖手机,暗示过度依赖手机可能会让我们忽视周围的自然环境。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“Leo followed his instructions, observing the trees, listening to the stream...”和第五段“He realized that a map drawn from experience would never go dark.”可推知,Leo经历了这次事件后,下次徒步时会仔细观察自然标志来确认方向,不再单纯依赖电子设备。 C When animals get sick, they cannot tell us exactly how they feel, making emotional pain in them even harder to detect. Similar Genes Found in Pets and Humans 【答案】28. C 29. D 30. 【答案】31. D 32. C 33. A 34. A 【解析】 【导语】本文介绍沉浸式慢阅读,探讨屏幕阅读带来的影响,指出深度阅读的需求难以被新技术摧毁,说明在快节奏时代慢阅读依然有存在的价值。 【31题详解】 根据原文第二段“From about the age of nine, our eyes skim the page, reading only a quarter of the words properly and filling in the gaps by guessing.”可知,只读四分之一的单词,靠猜测补全信息,也能够理解文本。 【32题详解】 根据原文第四段“For a slow reader, a writing can only be fully understood by engaging oneself in the words and slowly understanding a line of thought.”可知,慢读者只有沉浸文字之中,才能完全理解作品。 【33题详解】 根据原文第五段“The human need for this kind of deep reading is too tenacious for any new technology to destroy.”可知,新技术无法摧毁,说明人类对深度阅读的需求根深蒂固;据此可以推断,划线单词“tenacious”意为“根深蒂固的”,与“deep-rooted”同义。 【34题详解】 根据原文最后一段“Even in a fast-moving age, there is time for slow reading.” Family fights are never pleasant. According to the passage, what should we do while listening to the other person in an emotional situation? ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 38. If you get into a big argument with your parents, what will you do to deal with it? Why? (Please give two reasons.) ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】35. They are about power. 36. Because they’re not being listened to. 37. Focus on the emotional signals behind them. 38. I will calm down and leave it. Because many fights happen at the wrong time and the situation will die down quickly. 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了家庭争吵的本质,以及如何通过倾听对方情感信号和适时冷静处理,将冲突转化为增进家庭感情的机会。 【35题详解】 根据文章第三段“Family fighting is, on one level, about power.”可知,家庭争吵是关于权力的,可直接提取原文内容作为答案。 【36题详解】 根据文章第四段“People raise their voices and shout at each other because they're not being listened to.”可知,因为他们没有被倾听,直接摘抄原文原因即可。 【37题详解】 根据文章第五段“The best way to do in emotional situations is to focus on the emotional signals behind them.”可知,我们应该关注背后的情感信号,可直接提取原文内容作为答案。 【38题详解】 根据文章第六段“it would be wise to just calm down and leave the problem until later because many fights happen at the wrong time.
