My fellow students,
I’m Li Jin from Class 1, Grade 2. It’s my great honor to stand here and share my thoughts on the theme Learn from Nature.
Nature is our greatest teacher and a generous gift giver. It benefits us greatly in daily life. It provides fresh air, clean water and various resources for our survival. Moreover, its stunning scenery can ease our stress and anxiety, refreshing us when we feel exhausted. It also inspires human creativity and social progress.
Above all, nature teaches us valuable life lessons. The pines growing on steep cliffs impress me most. They stand firm through fierce winds and bad weather, never giving up. This tells us to be perseverant and brave. When facing difficulties in study and life, we should stick to our goals and overcome challenges bravely.
Nature takes care of all living things, but no one should harm it. Destroying nature will lead to severe punishment. Therefore, we should get close to and respect nature. Let’s cherish natural resources, protect the environment and live in harmony with nature.
In short, nature is a lifelong teacher. Only by learning from and respecting it can we grow steadily and live better lives.
Thank you!

(来源:BBC Learning English)Being in nature helps people relax and reduce stress. Experts call this connection biophilia — our natural, born ability to feel positive when we are around living things. Modern city life keeps many of us away from green spaces. We spend most time indoors, staring at screens. But stepping into parks or woods can quickly calm our busy minds. For thousands of years, humans lived closely with nature. We learned to work with natural forces instead of fighting against them. This is living in harmony with nature, the key idea in many ancient cultures. Today, we still need this bond. Small activities like walking among trees help us remember we are part of nature, not separate from it. Protecting natural spaces is protecting ourselves.

Passage 1
Every year, travel professionals around the world vote for their favorite beaches, ranking them mainly by how unique each beach feels, if you can see wildlife, and how quiet it is. Other criteria include how easy it is to enter the water, how calm the sea is, how often the weather is just right and of course, how crowded the beach gets! Here are four beaches listed on The World’s 50 Best Beaches 2026.
Entalula Beach, the Philippines
This year, the top-ranked beach is Entalula Beach in the Philippines. It boasts its white sand, clear blue water and tall cliffs. Since the only access there is by boat, it stays quiet and isn’t very crowded. The calm water makes it easy to swim, too.
Fteri Beach, Greece
The second place is Fteri Beach in Greece. Located in a quiet area with high white cliffs, the beach has a mix of white stones and sand, and the water is clear and bright blue. Most people get there by boat or by walking down a steep path, so this beach also doesn’t get too crowded.
Wharton Beach, Australia
In third place is Western Australia’s Wharton Beach. With white sand and green-blue water, it’s a popular place for surfing, and you can also see dolphins swimming. It’s more than 650 kilometers southeast of Perth, so it’s not very crowded, even in the summer!
Keem Beach, Ireland
Ireland might not be a country you would normally visit for its beaches. Despite being ranked 50th on the list, Keem Beach, hidden on Ireland’s Achill Island, offers more than just sand and sea. It’s surrounded by beautiful green hills, making it a unique place to visit.
1.How many aspects are the rankings based on?
A.6 B.7 C.8 D.9
2.Which beach enjoys popularity among surfers?
A.Entalula Beach. B.Fteri Beach.
C.Wharton Beach. D.Keem Beach.
3.What makes Keem Beach special?
A.The white sands. B.The white cliffs.
C.The wild dolphins. D.The green hills.
根据第一段“Every year, travel professionals around the world vote for their favorite beaches, ranking them mainly by how unique each beach feels, if you can see wildlife, and how quiet it is. Other criteria include how easy it is to enter the water, how calm the sea is, how often the weather is just right and of course, how crowded the beach gets! (每年,世界各地的旅游专业人士都会投票选出他们最喜欢的海滩,主要根据每个海滩的独特感、是否能看到野生动物以及安静程度来排名。其他标准包括入水难易度、海面平静度、天气适宜频率,当然还有海滩的拥挤程度!)”可知,排名共基于7个方面:独特性、野生动物、安静程度、入水难易度、海面平静度、天气适宜频率、拥挤程度。
2.细节理解题。根据第四段“With white sand and green-blue water, it’s a popular place for surfing, and you can also see dolphins swimming. (这里拥有白色沙滩和绿蓝色的海水,是冲浪的热门地点,你还可以看到海豚在游泳。)”可知,Wharton Beach深受冲浪爱好者欢迎。
3.细节理解题。根据最后一段“Despite being ranked 50th on the list, Keem Beach, hidden on Ireland’s Achill Island, offers more than just sand and sea. It’s surrounded by beautiful green hills, making it a unique place to visit. (尽管Keem Beach在榜单上排第50名,但这座隐藏在爱尔兰阿基尔岛上的海滩,提供的不仅仅是沙滩和海洋。它被美丽的绿色山丘环绕,使其成为一个独特的游览之地。)”可知,绿色山丘使Keem Beach变得特别。
Passage 2
A new three-story ode (颂歌;礼赞) to Shanghai dumplings is opening in downtown Manhattan this month. Tin’s regards itself as a New York-meets-Shanghai bar and restaurant spotlighting sheng jian bao (pan-fried soup dumplings). The name works twofold; it’s co-owner Mercury Tin’s last name and an abbreviation for “Things I Need,” which, for the couple, means those sheng jian bao.
When Dizard and Tin were dating, she often talked about memories of flying back home to Shanghai, when she’d have whoever was picking her up at the airport bring her sheng jian bao so she could eat them in the car. “This woman misses these dumplings more than she misses her bread,” Dizard says. When the two traveled to Shanghai to visit her parents, Dizard had his first taste of sheng jian bao, which he thought embodied every delicious aspect of a dumpling. “It’s crunchy, pillowy, steamed, delicate; it has this vibrant, aromatic soup; it’s got this beautiful, seasoned meatball,” he explains. That sparked his mission to find a suitable option in New York City, but he came up short. And that’s why they’re opening Tin’s.
The layout of Tin’s is a downward spiral (螺旋形) by design with three stories: a ground-floor restaurant and bar described as a Shanghai diner, a basement bar with food, and a sub-basement private dining room. “We want you to descend deeper into our fantasy of how New York and Shanghai can collide,” Dizard says. Each public floor has its own cocktail menu, full of drinks for $21.88 (eight represents good luck in Chinese culture).
The physical space, which fits 80 people overall, features lots of Art Deco and 20th-century Shanghai and New York details, including stained glass and a vaulted (拱形的) ceiling in the basement bar. When fully operational, the sheng jian bao will be its centerpiece, served on both floors. Other dishes include green onion oil noodles and Shanghai-style fried rice.
4.What is the meaning behind the name Tin’s?
A.Two classic Chinese foods. B.The owner’s surname and a memory.
C.A combination of two city cultures. D.The owner’s surname and a shared desire.
5.Why does Dizard start Tin’s?
A.To realize his business dream. B.To ease Tin’s homesickness.
C.To fill the gap in the New York market. D.To share Shanghai food with New Yorkers.
6.Which word best describes Tin’s design?
A.Integrated. B.Traditional. C.Simple. D.Complex.
7.What can be the best title of the text?
A.A Love Story Behind Dumplings. B.Tin’s: Shanghai Meets New York.
C.A New Dumpling Restaurant in Manhattan. D.The Unique Design of A Three-Story Restaurant.
【答案】4.D 5.C 6.A 7.B
根据第一段中的“The name works twofold; it’s co‑owner Mercury Tin’s last name and an abbreviation for “Things I Need,” which, for the couple, means those sheng jian bao.(这个名字有两层含义;它是合伙人Mercury Tin的姓氏,同时也是“Things I Need”的缩写,对这对伴侣而言,指的就是生煎包这份共同的向往。)”
根据第二段中的“That sparked his mission to find a suitable option in New York City, but he came up short. And that’s why they’re opening Tin’s.(这促使他想在纽约找到一家合适的店,但却一无所获。这就是他们开设Tin’s的原因。)”可知,纽约市场缺少满意的生煎包店,于是他们开办这家餐厅,填补市场空白。
6.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“The layout of Tin’s is a downward spiral (螺旋形) by design with three stories: a ground-floor restaurant and bar described as a Shanghai diner, a basement bar with food, and a sub-basement private dining room. “We want you to descend deeper into our fantasy of how New York and Shanghai can collide,” Dizard says.(Tin餐厅的布局特意设计成向下的螺旋结构,共三层:一层是被称作上海小馆的餐厅兼酒吧;地下一层是提供餐食的酒吧;地下二层则是私人包间。迪扎德表示:“我们希望你一步步沉浸在我们构想的幻境之中,感受纽约与上海的碰撞交融。”)”以及第四段提到空间融合两地装饰元素可知,Tin’s的设计体现了设计上融合一体。
7.主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“Tin’s regards itself as a New York‑meets‑Shanghai bar and restaurant spotlighting sheng jian bao (pan‑fried soup dumplings).(Tin’s自视为一家融合纽约与上海风格的酒吧餐厅,主打生煎包。)”
Passage 3
They say everything is bigger in Texas. While that may be true, some of the best things in Texas are quite small. Here is a case in point: tiny Mount Vernon, a town of just under 3,000 people. But if you do come across Mount Vernon, you might just get an intention to stay. That happens a lot around here, and it’s worth noting how remarkable that is.
Tom Wilkinson was born in Mount Vernon 87 years ago and moved back after he retired from his career as a college English professor in Dallas. Like many of his neighbours, Wilkinson can track his ancestors back to the pioneers who settled here in the 1870s. And like many, he values the simple life you can’t easily find in big cities. “People are still polite. They hold the door open for you,” he says. “We grow strong roots here!”
Preserving and honouring the past has been key to helping Mount Vernon survive. The residents have restored and reopened some of the empty stores, including the old barbershop, built more than 100 years ago. An old general store was turned into a combination space. Wander in on any given day and you might find a book club discussion or a work session for the local genealogy (家谱) group among the tables of people chatting over cups of coffee and plates of food.
Mount Vernon has the kind of big hearts you tend to find in a small town. For instance, when a local policeman was diagnosed with cancer last year, ten-year-old Lola McKellar set up a lemonade stand to raise money for his treatments. In 2015, when a 350-year flood sent water rushing into local homes, an army of volunteers showed up to get a wheelchair-bound neighbour and his wife to higher ground, and then came back to help others.
8.What does the author think of Mount Vernon?
A.Remote. B.Wealthy. C.Boring. D.Attractive.
9.Why did Tom Wilkinson come back to Mount Vernon?
A.He preferred the simple and natural life. B.He could continue his language teaching.
C.He could live together with his ancestors. D.He could meet more neighbours of his age.
10.What can we infer about people’s way of life in Mount Vernon from Paragraph 3?
A.It is in danger of extinction. B.It is quickly changing over time.
C.It is conservative but harmonious. D.It is being disturbed by the outside world.
11.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The history of Mount Vernon. B.The humanity of Mount Vernon.
C.The volunteers of Mount Vernon. D.The reconstruction of Mount Vernon.
【答案】8.D 9.A 10.C 11.B
根据第一段中“But if you do come across Mount Vernon, you might just get an intention to stay. That happens a lot around here, and it’s worth noting how remarkable that is.(但如果你真的偶然到访弗农山,你可能就会产生留下的念头。这种情况在这里经常发生,值得注意的是这有多么了不起)”可知,作者认为弗农山是一个极具吸引力的地方。
9.细节理解题。根据第二段中“And like many, he values the simple life you can’t easily find in big cities.(和许多人一样,他很珍视那种在大城市里不易找到的简单生活)”可知,Tom Wilkinson回到弗农山是因为他更喜欢这种简单自然的生活。
根据第三段“Preserving and honouring the past has been key to helping Mount Vernon survive. The residents have restored and reopened some of the empty stores, including the old barbershop, built more than 100 years ago. An old general store was turned into a combination space. Wander in on any given day and you might find a book club discussion or a work session for the local genealogy (家谱) group among the tables of people chatting over cups of coffee and plates of food.(保护和尊重过去是帮助弗农山存续的关键。
根据最后一段中“Mount Vernon has the kind of big hearts you tend to find in a small town.(弗农山拥有的是你在小城镇里常能看到的热心肠)”以及后文邻里互助的具体事例可知,本段主要讲述了弗农山居民的人文温情。

Passage 6
Dim sum (点心), 32 celebrated traditional Chinese food, has won admiration far beyond its place of origin. It’s closely linked with a Chinese tradition-drinking tea and enjoying the 33 (taste) snacks together. In Chinese, “dim sum” translates to “touch the heart”, reflecting the idea that the small, delicate dish 34 (mean) to delight diners, not to serve as a full meal but to bring a moment of pleasure.
The tradition is believed to have grown out of the teahouses of southern China, 35 travelers came for a cup of tea, particularly in Guangdong province. 36 (serve) in small portions (份额), dim sum started as simple refreshments and gradually developed into a more organized style of dining. Later, chefs treated dim sum as an art form. Skill was shown not only in flavor but also in shape and 37 (present).
Some dishes remain simple and comforting, while others become 38 (increasing) delicate. This creative tension between tradition and innovation 39 (allow) dim sum to adapt to different eras and regions 40 losing its essential character.
Today, its global spread continues that creative spirit. Local chefs often adjust recipes to suit local tastes, 41 (give) rise to fusion (融合) dim sum, which pairs classic forms with international ingredients. Yet at its heart, enjoying dim sum remains a Chinese tradition of time spent together.
32.a 33.tasty 34.is meant 35.where 36.Served 37.presentation 38.increasingly 39.allows 40.without 41.giving
be meant to do意为“旨在做……”,为固定用法。

Thank you!
