Have you noticed people around you who stay busy with study all day, yet hardly improve their grades or finish their big goals? Being busy often seems important in today’s world. Full calendars and long to-do lists make people feel they are making progress. However, many end their days tired and wonder why their big goals remain far away.
Busyness brings a false sense of achievement. Finishing small tasks may give us the illusory feeling of progress, yet such activities often have no real purpose and cannot push important goals ahead. Besides, busy people often let outside tasks take their time. So they can hardly manage their own time, suffering from stress and making little progress.
To become effective, here are four useful ways:
·Choose important tasks and spend your energy on them. Give up useless work to save your time.
·Stop your work to check whether you are moving toward your goals. This helps you know your real situation.
·Divide big goals into smaller steps. Small steps are easier to finish and keep you moving forward.
·Try to stay away from unnecessary things. They will take your attention away from your main work.
Being busy is different from being efficient: one fills time, the other creates results. Understanding this difference helps you control your attention, make wiser choices and focus on what truly matters for your real goals.
5. What can we learn from Paragraph 1?
A. Busy students can get good marks. B. A long to-do list helps people improve.
C. Tired people find it hard to reach goals. D. A full day often appears to be important.
6. What does the word “illusory” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Unreal. B. Sudden. C. Happy. D. Natural.
7. Which of the following is a proper way to bring efficiency?
A. Work on key jobs and keep all unhelpful ones.
B. Put small steps together to reach big aims.
C. Keep close to things that draw your mind away.
D. Take breaks to find out your actual progress.
8. What does the writer encourage readers to do?
A. Make detailed plans instead of filling time. B. Work smart rather than staying busy.
C. Go for creative results more than rushing. D. Tell differences without losing focus.
D 6. A 7. D 8. B

Linda always dreamed of having many great toys, but buying them was almost impossible.
One afternoon, exploring behind her apartment building, Linda discovered something wonderful. An elderly woman was creating beautiful playthings using thrown-away materials and natural objects. She built a tower from parts of cardboard boxes, and a tiny house with sticks, leaves, and stones.
“How do you make such wonderful toys without buying anything?” Linda asked.
“The best toys aren’t bought in stores,” the woman smiled warmly. “They’re created with your own hands and imagination. Even everything that people throw away can become something magical. You just need a little creativity.”
Inspired, Linda began trying out some ideas at home. She found treasures everywhere. A shoe box became a toy theater. Old socks turned into materials for fashion dolls and old magazines became their clothes. Plastic bottles were used to build rocket ships. Soon, Linda’s bedroom became a world of wonder. Each creation taught her something about design, engineering, and storytelling.
One day, Linda went to see her teacher, Mr. Thompson, with an idea. “What if we have a toy-making workshop where students can make their own toys for show-and-tell?” Mr. Thompson was uncertain. Linda then presented the toys she had made, showing him how well-designed and interesting they were.
Surprised by her creativity, Mr. Thompson decided to have an activity named “Invention and Innovation (创新) Week” to encourage students to make and show their creative works. Linda was excited and began to teach other students her toy-making skills.
During the week, something magical happened. The handmade toys fired everyone’s imagination in ways store toys never could, inspiring stories, games and plays. Some teachers even started to include creative toy-making in their lessons. A local newspaper reported on these young inventors. Other schools wanted to follow their creative practice.

根据后文“You can pick the food and cook your meals”可知,父母让他负责晚餐,take over意为“接管”,符合语境。think about考虑;carry on继续;look after照顾,均不符合负责做饭的语境。
根据后文列举的“We’re going to have chicken tonight, and noodles tomorrow”可知,是在写每天的餐食计划,plan意为“计划”,符合语境。
根据后文“Since he had never cooked”可知,这是他第一次做饭,first意为“第一”,符合逻辑。
根据上文“It took almost two hours to cook”可知,做饭很累,breathed此处暗示累得喘气,与后文“excited”形成转折。
根据上文“‘I don’t like cabbage,’ cried Sophia, Henry’s little sister, at the table. Henry felt quite upset.”
和后文“and he never got angry at dinner table again”可知,Henry松了一口气,之后开心地吃完了饭,happily意为“快乐地”,符合心情好转的语境。

be动词用were,notice的过去分词是noticed。
根据后半句“and now we have a whole box of them!”

School should be a place to learn, grow, and feel happy. But for many teenagers, school life can be filled with stress, arguments, or loneliness. Instead of suffering alone, some schools are introducing a special program called Peer (同伴) Support to help students through hard times and build a warmer environment in school.
In Peer Support, students help and listen to each other. The program trains a group of students to be listeners and guides. These peer supporters are usually patient, caring, and good at communicating. After training, they learn to listen carefully, keep secrets safe, and encourage classmates to face difficulties bravely. If a problem is too serious, they guide the student to a teacher or parent.
At many middle schools, peer supporters help lonely or troubled students fit in. Take Eric for example. He was shy and always sat alone. He had trouble with math and was afraid to ask teachers for help. “When I noticed his low spirits, I sat with him during lunch break and invited him to join a study group,” said Sarah, his peer supporter. “With her support, I feel safe to share my trouble,” Eric added.
This program benefits both sides. For students who need help, it reduces anxiety and loneliness quickly because talking to a friend feels easier than talking to adults. For peer supporters themselves, they learn to understand others’ feelings and communicate effectively.
Peer support programs prove that the most powerful help sometimes comes from a friend standing right beside you. The whole school community grows. Classrooms become warmer and arguments are solved peacefully.
41. Why do some schools start Peer Support?
____________________________________________________
42. How did Sarah help Eric when noticing his problem?
____________________________________________________
43. List benefits peer supporters and the students they help get from this program.
____________________________________________________
44. What may be one problem of Peer Support? How can we solve it? (at least 30 words.)
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
41. To help students get through hard times and build a warmer atmosphere in school.
42. She sat with him during lunch break and invited him to join a study group./By sitting with him during lunch break and inviting him to join a study group.
43. For peer supporters themselves, they learn to understand others’ feelings and how to communicate effectively. For students who need help, it reduces anxiety and loneliness quickly./Understanding others’ feelings and how to communicate effectively and reducing anxiety and loneliness
One problem may be that peer supporters may feel stressed because they listen to too many problems. To solve this, schools should give them more rest and let teachers help when it is too hard.
One problem may be that helping others takes too much time, so peer supporters may fall behind in their own studies. To solve this, they should manage their time wisely and limit their service hours.
One problem may be that some students may depend too much on peer supporters and stop trying to solve problems themselves. To solve this, supporters should encourage them to think and act on their own.

C
The big success of the activity filled Linda with pride. She realized creativity can also be about finding possibilities in seemingly useless materials.
