be about to do sth.

_______ is behind this evolving phenomenon of exports是所填词引导的主语从句,该引导词在从句中作主语;结合is a combination of multiple factors可知,所填词含有“……

“I could talk to him for the rest of my life,” says Yu Miao, a 27-year-old woman from Zhejiang province; he is at once “a lover, a friend and family”. Ms Yu has ____11____ this AI agent on Doubao, a chatbot made by ByteDance, to mimic a dead friend of hers. When she learned recently that ByteDance would soon remove this type of personalized agent entirely, Ms Yu became so depressed that she left her job.
Tech firms are removing human-like personas from their chatbots in order to comply with new government rules aimed at reducing “emotional ____12____”. The regulations, which took effect on July 15th, are the first of their kind to be implemented on a national scale. Companies can still offer such services to adults, but they will need to prevent users becoming ____13____ and harming their real-life relationships. Providers must also regularly remind users to take breaks.
Around the world, growing numbers of people are turning general-purpose chatbots into companions by prompting them to adopt particular personalities. Others prefer dedicated AI-companion apps which offer more human-like features, such as virtual boyfriends that send presents in the real world (at the user’s ____14____, of course).
Tech firms are making a (n) ____15____ sum selling emotional connection: AI companions accounted for 35% of MiniMax’s revenue last year, its single largest ____16____, according to a filing to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in January. AI companionship can create ____17____ relationships, turning reliance into revenue. Take some bespoke (定制) apps, which charge a simple subscription fee — an easy way to get users to ____18____ with their money.
The end to such relationships is motivated by both pragmatic and ideological concerns. Regulators want to protect users, particularly minors. In China, the government will impose penalties, such as cash fines and removing apps altogether. Yet the rules exclude work-assistant and customer-service chatbots on the understanding that they are emotionally ____19____.
Still, Ms Yu has not given up hope that ByteDance will eventually bring her agent back, even if she doubts it will resemble the current version. She says she would be willing to pay half her monthly salary just to keep the service as it is. In any case, she now says she realizes that it is not a good idea to leave herself ____20____ to such platforms.

II. Reading Comprehension
Section A(15分)
Directions: For each blank in the following passage there are four words or phrases marked A, B, C and D. Fill in each blank with the word or phrase that best fits the context.
What We Lost When We Lost the Veranda (有顶的屋外平台)
There is a particular quality of afternoon light that belongs only to a baramda (veranda). It catches the steam from a cup of chai, lands on a worn chair, and finds someone’s grandmother watching the street from above, not for any reason, just to be present. A neighbour passes and slows. A few words are exchanged.
Such spaces ____21____ the nervous system in ways modern environments rarely do. Human beings are not designed for either total ____22____ or constant stimulation; we function best within gentle gradients (梯度) of social and sensory exposure. A baramda (veranda) creates precisely this condition. It allows someone to remain partially ____23____ the world without demanding full participation in it. From there, the mind absorbs shifting light, footsteps on the street, and the movement of ordinary life. Sociologists sometimes describe this as a form of low-intensity social belonging: the quiet reassurance that one ____24____ within a living social fabric, even in moments of being alone. The veranda did not merely connect the house to the street architecturally; it connected the individual to the surrounding rhythm of community life ____25____.
In dense traditional neighbourhoods, the veranda functioned almost like an external nervous system for the home. It ____26____ awareness outward while pulling community inward. There, children learned familiarity before friendship. Elders maintained relevance simply by being ____27____. Even silence became communal. Contemporary urban environments, ____28____, often eliminate these intermediary conditions. We move suddenly from ____29____ private interiors to overstimulating public streets, with very little spatial gradation in between. And the brain experiences this as _____30_____. Architects have a term for these spaces: semi-public spaces. These spaces perform subtle psychological work. A living room requires commitment. A street requires exposure. But a veranda occupies an in-between state. You are visible without being vulnerable.
What’s remarkable is that cultures _____31_____ by oceans and centuries all arrived at this same design wisdom independently. In Japan, traditional homes often included the engawa, a wooden _____32_____ edge between the house and the outdoors where people could sit, or casually interact with passersby. In the Netherlands, the stoep, a raised area outside the door, functioned as a semi-public front step, a social stage where being visible meant being available. These were not beauty _____33_____. They were social technologies, long sensed across cultures before they were theorised. Different societies independently discovered something modern urban life often _____34_____: Human beings need spaces that allow for gradual, low-pressure connection.
Today, our environments increasingly push us toward efficiency, privacy, and constant movement, leaving little room for the _____35_____ stillness where reflection, familiarity, and spontaneous (自发的) connection once quietly grew. Reimagining such spaces may therefore not only help rebuild the community but also restore a healthier rhythm of living.

Section B(22分)
Directions: Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read.
(A)
Most of us would probably say we’re reasonably polite, but there’s one exception: We are rude to our AI assistants. When we speak or type instructions to them, most of us don’t include “please” or “thank you,” and we don’t use indirect requests that are a common form of politeness in English. Instead, direct commands are preferred.
We dislike rude people because they’re cheaters, skipping the effort to be polite while the rest of us are putting in the work. Making some effort to be polite is essential to our functioning in society, where we’re constantly needing to interact with people outside our core family and friend group.
If politeness is so essential, then why skip it when talking to AI? Because we don’t need it for AI, and we may even be better off without it. The act of talking is cognitively demanding, and omitting the words and phrases that signal politeness could make talking easier. AI assistants are programmed to cooperate no matter how we ask, and sometimes being rude to them can actually yield better performance, compared to polite requests.
Despite these apparent upsides of being rude to AI assistants, we should also consider the potential downsides. When we turn our ideas into speech or writing, our brains tend to reuse words and phrases that we’ve often said before. This recycling is so pervasive that it’s reasonable that the rude talking style for AI will get reused in future conversations with each other, kicking politeness to the curb.
With AI being both praised and blamed for job loss, brain rot, and everything else these days, should we bother adding politeness to the pile of worries? Yes, because of the essential role politeness has in keeping us cooperating and keeping our society functioning. Politeness already faces many other assaults (攻击) — a reduction in face-to-face talking, inequality, and more. The rudeness-inducing effects of talking to AI may push us further away from the civility and cooperation that every society needs.
36. According to paragraph 1, which of the following is most likely to be part of a human-AI conversation?
A. Read this instruction file and document all the work. Do not skip steps.
B. You’re taking too long. Would you mind sending the message now?
C. I would appreciate it if you could explain this problem to me.
D. Nothing like what I asked for! Why can’t you ever understand me?
37. People become rude when talking to AI because ________.
A. AI assistants are designed to understand less polite commands better
B. AI has a negative impact on their life in the real world, such as job loss
C. this can simplify AI communication and add to its effectiveness
D. politeness prevents AI tools from carrying out certain tasks efficiently
38. What does the underlined phrase “kicking politeness to the curb” mean?
A. paying attention to politeness again B. abandoning politeness completely
C. protecting politeness from outside influences D. balancing politeness and rudeness
39. What is the author’s attitude towards the lack of politeness in AI communication?
A. Strongly critical of disturbing future conversations.
B. Largely indifferent, for AI’s programmed nature.
C. Cautiously concerned, for its social impact.
D. Generally supportive of improved efficiency.
【答案】36. A 37. C 38. B 39. C
【解析】
【导语】本文主要探讨的是人们在与AI助手交流时缺乏礼貌的现象,分析了其原因及潜在的社会影响,呼吁重视礼貌在维护社会合作与文明中的重要作用。
【36题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段“When we speak or type instructions to them, most of us don’t include ‘please’ or ‘thank you,’ and we don’t use indirect requests that are a common form of politeness in English. Instead, direct commands are preferred. (当我们对它们说话或输入指令时,大多数人不会包含‘请’或‘谢谢’,也不使用间接请求——这是英语中常见的礼貌形式。相反,直接命令更受青睐。)”可知,人与AI对话中最可能出现的是直接命令。选项A“Read this instruction file and document all the work. Do not skip steps. (阅读这份指令文件并记录所有工作。不要跳过步骤。)”是典型的直接命令,符合文中所描述的人与AI交流方式。
【37题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“Because we don’t need it for AI, and we may even be better off without it. The act of talking is cognitively demanding, and omitting the words and phrases that signal politeness could make talking easier. AI assistants are programmed to cooperate no matter how we ask, and sometimes being rude to them can actually yield better performance, compared to polite requests. (因为我们对AI不需要礼貌,而且没有礼貌我们可能甚至更好。说话的行为在认知上是费力的,省略表示礼貌的词语和短语可以使说话更容易。AI助手被编程为无论我们如何询问都会合作,有时对它们粗鲁实际上比礼貌请求能产生更好的表现。)”可知,人们对AI粗鲁是因为这样可以简化与AI的交流并提高其有效性。
【38题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段“When we turn our ideas into speech or writing, our brains tend to reuse words and phrases that we’ve often said before. This recycling is so pervasive that it’s reasonable that the rude talking style for AI will get reused in future conversations with each other, kicking politeness to the curb. (当我们将想法转化为言语或文字时,我们的大脑倾向于重复使用我们以前经常说过的词语和短语。这种重复如此普遍,以至于对AI的粗鲁说话风格会在未来彼此的对话中被重复使用是合理的,kicking politeness to the curb。)”可知,“kicking politeness to the curb”意为“将礼貌完全抛弃”,与“abandoning politeness completely”意思一致。
【39题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Yes, because of the essential role politeness has in keeping us cooperating and keeping our society functioning. Politeness already faces many other assaults (攻击) — a reduction in face-to-face talking, inequality, and more. The rudeness-inducing effects of talking to AI may push us further away from the civility and cooperation that every society needs. (是的,因为礼貌在保持我们合作和维持社会运转方面扮演着至关重要的角色。礼貌已经面临许多其他攻击——面对面交谈的减少、不平等,等等。与AI交谈引发的粗鲁效应可能会使我们进一步远离每个社会都需要的文明与合作。)”可知,作者对AI交流中缺乏礼貌持谨慎担忧的态度,担心其对社会产生负面影响。

Boox Go 6 (Gen II)
Boox’s newly-announced Boox Go 6 (Gen II) is a cost-effective digital notebook. It keeps the six-inch E-Ink screen of its former model and gains note-taking functions with support for the InkSense Plus stylus. Users can draw, mark documents and take notes with the stylus (触控笔). Available for pre-order at $200, the product will start shipping on June 17. The stylus is sold separately for $46, or buyers can get the bundle for $233. It costs only about half of ReMarkable’s Paper Pro Move, though its writing experience may be less satisfying.
Logitech Mobi Fold
Logitech’s Mobi Fold is an ultra-portable folding wireless mouse in four colour choices. The clock is ticking on Q-Day, the looming yet unknown date when quantum computing will have the capacity to quickly and easily break the encryption keys (加密密钥) that keep most internet communication safe.
Experts have known about Shor’s algorithm (算法) since the 1990s. But Google recently warned that quantum computers may be able to hack some encrypted systems by 2029 — a timeline that drastically narrows the window to safeguard data that many cybersecurity specialists had previously predicted. The new estimate means that governments, companies and other entities may have far less time to prepare.
“It’s the day when people, perhaps adversaries, will have access to a quantum computer that can break cryptographic codes that are in use,” said Michele Mosca, co-founder and CEO of cybersecurity company evolutionQ.
Q-Day marks the moment a quantum computer gains enough resources and stability to crack conventional cryptography. When that happens, every financial transaction, medical file, email, location history and crypto wallet protected by today’s commonly used algorithms could be unlocked by a machine capable of solving the complex math that currently keeps sensitive data secure.
At that game-changing turning point, “everything’s safe — safe, safe — and then suddenly it’s not safe. It’s a very drastic jump,” said Mosca, who is also a professor at the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo in Ontario.
Adversaries and bad actors may already be collecting encrypted data, with the intention of launching “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks. In this scenario, information is stolen, stored and then decrypted when a full-scale quantum computer is available, he added.
Mosca has co-authored the Quantum Threat Timeline Report 2025, published by the Global Risk Institute in Toronto, since 2019. The seventh edition, published March 9, suggested a full-scale, cryptographically relevant quantum computer (CRQC) was “quite possible” within the next 10 years, and “likely” in the next 15. Mosca and his co-author based their prediction on the opinions of 26 experts.
“Many organizations may be unaware that they are currently exposed to an intolerable level of risk that requires urgent action,” the report authors wrote.
Google said on March 25 that it set 2029 as a timeline “to secure the quantum era” with post-quantum cryptography. The timeline reflected advances in the quantum computing field, the company said. “By doing this, we hope to provide the clarity and urgency needed to accelerate digital transitions not only for Google, but also across the industry,” it noted in a blog post. Similarly, cloud computing services company CloudFlare announced it was targeting 2029 for full post-quantum security. Google declined an interview request.
Quantum computing isn’t simply a more powerful or faster version of the computers in use today. This form of processing works in a fundamentally different way.
Unlike standard computers that process information sequentially using bits (0 or 1), quantum computers employ quantum bits — “qubits” — that can represent 0, 1 or both simultaneously. Known as superposition, this property enables quantum machines to hold and process more complex information.
43. What do we learn about Q-Day from the first two paragraphs?
A. It is a fixed date scheduled for the year 2029.
B. It shortens the working time of cybersecurity specialists.
C. Its arrival will be earlier than formerly expected.
D. It helps improve Shor’s algorithm for data encryption.
44. What is the main idea of “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks?
A. Stealing encrypted data presently for future decoding.
B. Decoding sensitive data immediately after theft.
C. Collecting plain-text information for long-term storage.
D. Launching large-scale quantum attacks at present.
45. What can be inferred from the Quantum Threat Timeline Report 2025?
A. All experts agree that CRQC will come true within a decade.
B. Most firms have taken effective measures against quantum threats.
C. The prediction is built on input from industry specialists.
D. Organizations suffer little risk before Q-Day actually arrives.
46. Which of the following is TRUE about quantum computers?
A. They process information bit by bit in sequence.
B. Qubits can exist in more than one state at the same time.
C. They have already replaced traditional computers in cloud service.
D. Post-quantum cryptography has completely solved their security risk.

【44题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第六段中“harvest now, decrypt later”后的“In this scenario, information is stolen, stored and then decrypted when a full-scale quantum computer is available.(在这种情形下,信息先被窃取、存储起来,等到能够用上成熟的量子计算机时再进行解密。)”可知,“harvest now, decrypt later”指当下先窃取加密数据、留待将来量子计算机成熟后再解码。
【45题详解】
推理判断题。根据第七段中的“Mosca has co-authored the Quantum Threat Timeline Report 2025, published by the Global Risk Institute in Toronto, since 2019.(自2019年以来,莫斯卡一直担任多伦多全球风险研究所发布的《2025年量子威胁时间线报告》的合著者。)”以及“Mosca and his co-author based their prediction on the opinions of 26 experts.(莫斯卡及其合著者将这一预测建立在 26 位专家意见的基础之上。)”可知,报告中的时间预测并非凭空得出,而是征询了多位专家的看法。由此推知,该预测是建立在行业专家意见之上的。
【46题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“Unlike standard computers that process information sequentially using bits (0 or 1), quantum computers employ quantum bits — “qubits” — that can represent 0, 1 or both simultaneously.(与使用比特(0或1)按顺序处理信息的传统计算机不同,量子计算机采用量子比特——即‘qubit’——它可以同时表示0、1或两者叠加。)”可知,量子比特能够同时处于不止一种状态,B项表述正确。

If you live in or visit China, you will see firsthand evidence of ecological civilization in practice. From bus stops to apartment complexes, there are reminders to keep China green.
One of the most widely recognized examples of ecological progress in China is the “Great Green Wall”, which aims to slow and reverse desert expansion across northern China. Through decades of large-scale tree planting and land management, the project has become a symbol of Chinese environmental governance. Like any project of this size, it has faced challenges, including concerns about water use and the suitability of certain tree species. ____47____
As a member of Gen Z, I have a personal interest in global ecology because today’s environmental decisions will shape the conditions in which my generation must live. ____48____ Environmental stewardship is therefore not only a political or economic concern, but also a moral obligation between generations.
Growing up in the US, ecological sustainability was part of my elementary school education. Reminders to recycle, turn off the lights when leaving home, or donate a dollar to charity while buying coffee were common. It would be logical to conclude that, given this education, the country’s natural beauty and strong rural culture, the US would be a global leader in ecological sustainability.
____49____ The US is responsible for more cumulative carbon dioxide emissions than any other country, and its emissions per person remain among the highest in the world. Although efforts have been made to develop sustainable energy, recent federal policies have also sought to reverse or weaken some environmental protections.
I hope that in the future, Americans can better understand that prosperity is not isolated, but shared among individuals, communities and people across the world. I also hope that American leadership can learn from the farsighted, long-term approach emphasized in Chinese governance, while recognizing that every country, including China, still faces serious environmental challenges of its own. That vision returns us to the image of planting trees today so that others may one day sit in their shade. ____50____
A. A society becomes great not only through what it builds for the present, but through what it preserves for the future.
B. In the United States, material wealth has increasingly become a measure of national success.
C. However, as painful as it is to admit, this is not entirely the case.
D. Still, it demonstrates the importance of long-term environmental planning.
E. Environmental concerns have been incorporated into China’s constitution and national development goals.
F. Every generation inherits a world it did not create and becomes responsible for what it passes on.

III. Summary Writing 10%
51. Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main points of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.
Hundreds of years ago Peruvian fishermen noticed that, every few years, the anchovies (凤尾鱼) in the equatorial Pacific Ocean would vanish. Since the disappearances happened around Christmas, they named the event after el niño Jesus — “the Christ child”. These days, the phenomenon, known simply as El Niño, is recognised as a recurring climatic pattern that alters the weather all over the world. It causes droughts in some places, heavy rain in others, heatwaves, wildfires and a general warming of the planet.
The strength of any particular El Niño is measured by how much warmer the water gets. Anything above a 2℃ rise over the long-run average is considered strong. Forecasts from most of the world’s modellers for the rest of this year and the first couple of months of 2027 suggest a rise in sea-surface temperatures of more than 2.5℃ — and perhaps even 3℃. That would be unprecedented in the 75 years for which scientists have been keeping records.
El Niño is not caused by climate change. But the two phenomena amplify each other’s effects. A strong El Niño in 2015-16 made the temperatures in 2016 up more than 1℃. The current record holder is 2024, when temperatures were 1.55℃ higher than the pre-industrial average. Climate modellers think 2027 could be hotter still.
When it comes to countries and continents, El Niño’s effects are more variable. Droughts dried crops and pasture lands, leaving millions hungry and many forced to migrate in search of food. Worse still, a possible heavy rainfall after a long drought can cause floods, because water cannot sink fast enough into parched soil.
The European Commission has warned of humanitarian disasters in African countries and suggested that there are ways to relieve the impact: planting drought-tolerant seeds, for instance, or storing fodder and water for livestock. But the time to start is now.

【答案】One possible version:
My View on Companion Robots
With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, companion robots are becoming increasingly popular in modern families. They can take care of the elderly and play with children, which brings great convenience to busy parents.
Personally, I hold a positive attitude towards this trend, but I believe we should use them wisely. On one hand, these robots can provide timely help and companionship, especially for those who live alone. On the other hand, relying too much on robots may lead to a lack of real human interaction, which is harmful to emotional development.
In my opinion, robots should be seen as assistants rather than replacements for family members. We should spend more quality time with our loved ones to keep our relationships warm and strong.

(A)
Most of us would probably say we’re reasonably polite, but there’s one exception: We are rude to our AI assistants.
