At 24, Carina Hong founded an AI company called Axiom Math. With its unique technical ideas and clear development goals, the company has changed traditional views in the Silicon Valley investment capital circle.
Born in Guangzhou in 2001, Hong came from a family where neither parent had received higher education. She grew up like other kids, and showed no special talent until she started learning Olympiad mathematics in junior high school — this unlocked her potential and surprised everyone.
In high school, Hong was selected into Guangdong Provincial Olympiad Mathematics Team, and in 2018, she entered the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with excellent results. She double-majored in Maths and Physics, completed over 20 advanced courses, and served as president of student organisations to help international students. Later, she won the Rhodes Scholarship to study Neuroscience at Oxford, and then pursued two doctoral degrees at Stanford while offering legal aid to low-income people.
During this period, Hong focused on the combination of AI and mathematics. Noticing AI’s big shortcomings in mathematical reasoning, she founded Axiom Math, whose core idea is to transform English mathematical content from textbooks, papers and journals into programmable knowledge. This allows AI to not only solve complex mathematical problems but also confirm solutions through strict validation (验证). Axiom Math’s goal is to develop a real “AI Mathematician” with logical reasoning ability, and Hong even hopes that “AI mathematicians” will put forward brand-new mathematical conjectures (猜想) in the future. With her good academic reputation and clear technical goals, she attracted many top talents to Axiom Math.
Carina Hong’s story is one of vision and commitment. Built on solid academic training and driven by a clear goal — to give AI true mathematical reasoning ability — she is leading Axiom Math toward a future where machines and mathematicians work side by side.
24. What awakened Carina Hong’s potential in her youth?
A. Learning Olympiad maths. B. Her ambition to study at MIT.
C. Helping international students. D. Her parents’ educational background.
25. What can we infer about Carina Hong from the text?
A. She focuses on earning academic titles.
B. She is academically and socially excellent.
C. She owes her success to her family’s support.
D. She plans to leave the tech industry for legal work.
26. Why did Carina Hong set up Axiom Math?
A. To offer legal aid to the poor.
B. To train more AI professionals.
C. To change views in the capital circle.
D. To develop an AI with reasoning skills.
27. What is the best title of the text?
A. A Rhodes Scholar’s Academic Journey B. The Founding of a Silicon Valley Startup
C. From Olympiad Maths to AI Mathematician D. Axiom Math Redefining Artificial Intelligence

Cars produced today are essentially smartphones with wheels. For drivers, this means many new features: automatic braking (刹车), turn-by-turn directions, and entertainment systems. But carmakers are getting much more. They’re constantly collecting data from our vehicles, like how much we weigh, how fast we drive, how many children we have and even financial information. But who owns and, finally, controls that data? And what are carmakers doing with it?
The issue of ownership is not clearly known. Drivers usually sign away their rights to data. It’s not unlike buying a smartphone. The difference is that most customers have no idea that vehicles collect data. We know our smartphones collect data and we’ve come to accept that we trade personal information for convenience. With cars, we have no such expectation.
What carmakers are doing with the collected data isn’t clear. We know they use it to improve car performance and safety and that they have the ability to sell it to third parties they might choose. The data on your driving habits could be valuable to insurance companies. You may or may not choose to share it with these services. But while you can turn off location data on your cellphone, there is no opt-out feature for your car.
Carmakers use data to warn us when something needs repair or when our cars need to be taken in for service. For almost a century, car owners have been able to take their vehicles to whichever shop they trust for maintenance and repair. That may be changing. When carmakers control the data, they can choose which service centers receive our information. They’re more likely to share our data only with their branded dealerships (经销商) than with independent repair shops which could have an advantage in price and convenience.
It is clear that because of its value — as high as 750 billion dollars by 2030 — carmakers are unlikely to release control of the data collected from our vehicles. Policymakers, however, have the chance to give drivers control — not just so that they can keep their data private but also so that they can share it with the people who want to see it. This will let car owners maintain what they’ve had for a century: the right to decide who fixes their cars.
28. How is paragraph 2 developed?
A. By expressing ideas. B. By giving examples.
C. By exploring reasons. D. By making comparisons.
29. What does the underlined part “opt-out feature” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. A useful tool. B. A special part.
C. A function to stop something. D. A way to start something.
30. What might happen if carmakers control users’ data?
A. More repair shops will appear.
B. Carmakers will offer more repair shops.
C. Users will spend more on car maintenance.
D. Independent repair shops will earn higher profits.
31. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of vehicle data control?
A. Policies may help drivers gain control of their data.
B. Car owners will release control over their vehicle data.
C. Drivers should realize the value of their personal data.
D. Carmakers may share vehicle data with drivers in no way.
D
People who live in warm cities often prefer to keep their windows open during the summer so that fresh air can come in. However, open windows also allow noise to enter the room, which can make it difficult to rest, study, or sleep. To deal with this everyday problem, researchers at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore have developed a device.
The research team, led by Bhan Lam, attached 24 small speakers to a window grille (铁栅栏) in an 8-by-3 arrangement. A sensor was placed outside the window to detect incoming sounds. After receiving the sound signal, the system made the speakers produce sound waves that could weaken part of the unwanted noise before it spread further into the room.
In indoor experiments, the team played recorded road, train, and aircraft noise from a loudspeaker placed 2 meters away from the window. In these controlled conditions, the system was able to reduce the noise level by up to 10 decibels (分贝) in some cases. This did not mean the noise disappeared completely, but it became clearly less noticeable. For people living near busy roads, even this level of reduction could make a room feel more comfortable.
The device worked best on low-frequency transport noise, especially in the 300 to 1,000 hertz range. These sounds included much of the background noise produced by cars, buses, and trains. Speech and other sharp sounds were more likely to slip through, with those sounds often carrying higher-frequency details that this design struggled to cancel. “This idea is similar to noise-cancelling headphones, which usually work best against steady background sounds such as the hum of an engine,” said Lam.
The speakers used in the experiments were quite small, so they could not handle very deep low-frequency noise well. Larger speakers might improve performance, but they could also block more sunlight and reduce the view from the window. In the future, the researchers hope to test the device in real homes and improve its design for everyday use.
32. What can the device be used to do?
A. Reduce noise through open windows.
B. Prevent sounds from entering rooms.
C. Test the function of indoor speakers.
D. Monitor the situation of urban noise.
33. What aspect of the device is discussed in paragraph 2?
A. Its test data.
B. Its market value.
C. Its working principle.
D. Its appearance design.
34. Why was the device less effective at blocking speech?
A. The sensor could not detect speech.
B. Speech had much background noise.
C. The window grille blocked the signal.
D. Speech contained high-frequency details.
35. What can be inferred about the device from the last paragraph?
A. It has turned out to deliver satisfying performance.
B. It still leaves much room for further improvement.
C. It is qualified for practical application in real-life situations.
D. It has undergone tests within real-life household environments.

Eye contact plays a vital role in nonverbal communication. It shows your focus, helps understand others and develops friendly relations, since people tend to warm to those who maintain eye attention. Proper eye contact can start talks, ease stress or create closeness without any words. ____36____ Below are four practical ways to master polite and comfortable eye contact in daily communication.
____37____ It is awkward to stare at both eyes together, which may make you look rude. Instead, focus on one eye and shift to the other little by little. Slow shifts keep positive connection, while quick repeated eye movement makes listeners uneasy.
Try the triangle gazing (注视) method. Fixed long-time eye focus often brings discomfort. If you fail to form natural eye rhythm, shift your gaze from one eye to the other, then down to the mouth and back. ____38____ With this set path for eyes, after short practice, your gaze will become warm instead of stiff
Control your distance reasonably. Gaze intensity matches your closeness with partners. For new friends, long close stares cause pressure. You can lean backward or tilt (倾斜) your head to reduce psychological closeness. ____39____ In such sensitive moments, leaning forward and keeping steady eye contact show that you are listening attentively.
Follow the three-second gazing rule. Research proves 3 seconds is the most comfortable staring length, about one short sentence. Look away for a moment and continue eye contact afterwards. A useful tip is to catch their eye color within 3 to 5 seconds. ____40____
A. Switch your sight between two eyes gently.
B. This small skill helps you control eye contact time naturally.
C. Avoid changing your eyesight too frequently during conversations.
D. It provides your eyes with natural moving routes during conversations.
E. However, many people feel confused about how to make proper eye contact.
F. When conversations involve private feelings, adjust your body position appropriately.
G. Feel free to maintain longer and closer eye contact when talking with familiar people.

David, a primary school student, worked as a volunteer at the soup kitchen in his community park. It was another Saturday, and David was busy working alongside other volunteers, distributing food to the homeless. Towards the end of the volunteer shift, Jack — the head volunteer, sighed, “Without more donations, we might not have enough to feed them next month.” When David heard this, his heart tightened. A heavy sense of worry settled in him as he wondered what he could do to help the homeless. Suddenly he spotted dozens of aluminum (铝) cans thrown near the soup kitchen. A brilliant idea flashed through his mind: “What if I collect and sell these cans to the scrap (废弃的 )metal dealer to raise money for the soup kitchen?”
Upon finishing his work, David hurried home. Excitement mixed with determination grew inside him as he rushed to share his idea with his parents. To his delight, they were both quick to support him. The next day, David started visiting businesses near his home - cafes, shops and offices with a big smile, politely asking for any spare aluminum cans to collect for charity fundraising. Surprisingly, most businesses agreed. And by the end of the week, he had collected hundreds of cans and piled them up in his family’s garage (车库)!
The following Saturday morning, as David sorted through the cans, a new worry washed over him. They took up far more space than he’d expected, like a mountain. The garage was already crowded, and there was simply no room for more. He frowned, deep in thought, “How could I make them smaller to save space?” Kicking an empty can in frustration, he watched it roll toward his dad’s car. Just then, he remembered that once, by accident, how a car tire had crushed (挤压) a can completely flat.
“That’s it!” he breathed, a warm light of hope returning to his eyes.

A 25. B 26. D 27. C

C
D 29. C 30. C 31. A

根据文章第二段“The issue of ownership is not clearly known. Drivers usually sign away their rights to data. It’s not unlike buying a smartphone. The difference is that most customers have no idea that vehicles collect data. We know our smartphones collect data and we’ve come to accept that we trade personal information for convenience. With cars, we have no such expectation.(所有权问题尚不明确。司机通常会签署放弃数据权利的文件。这与购买智能手机的情况不无相似。区别在于,大多数顾客并不知道车辆会收集数据。我们知道智能手机会收集数据,并且我们已经接受用个人信息换取便利的事实。但对于汽车,我们并没有这样的预期。)”可推知,第二段是通过智能手机和汽车收集数据的对比来展开论述的,即通过比较来展开论述的。故选D。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线短语前文的内容“The data on your driving habits could be valuable to insurance companies. You may or may not choose to share it with these services. But while you can turn off location data on your cellphone (你驾驶习惯数据对保险公司来说可能很有价值。你可以选择也可以不选择与这些服务共享。但是,虽然你可以关闭手机上的位置数据)”可知,空前提到用户可以自主选择是否与这些服务共享。此句“But while you can turn off location data on your cellphone, there is no opt-out feature for your car.(但是,虽然你可以关闭手机上的位置数据,但你的汽车没有opt-out feature)”与上句构成转折关系,故可推知此处画线短语与C项“A function to stop something(停止某事的功能)”意思相近,尽管你可以关闭手机上的数据位置,但你的汽车却没有停止分享数据位置的功能。
根据第四段最后一句“They’re more likely to share our data only with their branded dealerships (经销商) than with independent repair shops which could have an advantage in price and convenience.(他们更有可能只与他们的品牌经销商分享我们的数据,而不是与在价格和便利性方面有优势的独立维修店分享。)”
根据文章最后一段“It is clear that because of its value — as high as 750 billion dollars by 2030 — carmakers are unlikely to release control of the data collected from our vehicles. Policymakers, however, have the chance to give drivers control — not just so that they can keep their data private but also so that they can share it with the people who want to see it.(很明显,由于其价值可能高达7500亿美元(截至2030年),汽车制造商不太可能放弃对我们车辆所收集数据的控制权。然而,政策制定者有机会让驾驶员掌握控制权——这不仅仅是为了保护他们的数据隐私,还为了让他们能与希望看到这些数据的人共享数据。)”可推知,作者认为政策制定者可以让驾驶员掌握对数据的控制权,因此政策可以帮助司机控制他们的数据。故选A。
A 33. C 34. D 35. B
根据第一段中的“However, open windows also allow noise to enter the room, which can make it difficult to rest, study, or sleep. To deal with this everyday problem, researchers at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore have developed a device.(但是,打开的窗户也会让噪音进入室内,这会让人难以休息、学习或者睡觉。为了解决这个日常难题,新加坡南洋理工大学的研究者开发了一款设备。)”可知,该装置用来减少经由敞开窗户传入室内的噪音。
【33题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第二段中的“A sensor was placed outside the window to detect incoming sounds. After receiving the sound signal, the system made the speakers produce sound waves that could weaken part of the unwanted noise before it spread further into the room.(一个传感器被安置在窗外,以检测传入的声音。在收到声音信号后,系统使扬声器产生声波,这些声波能在不需要的噪音进一步扩散到房间内部之前削弱其中一部分。)”可知,第二段详细描述了该设备的工作过程:传感器检测窗外的声音,随后系统控制扬声器产生声波,从而在噪音传入室内前将其减弱,这部分内容主要讲解的是该设备的工作原理。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Speech and other sharp sounds were more likely to slip through, with those sounds often carrying higher-frequency details that this design struggled to cancel.(言语以及其他尖锐声音更容易漏入(室内),这类声音通常带有更高频的细节,该设计难以抵消它们。)”
根据最后一段中的“The speakers used in the experiments were quite small, so they could not handle very deep low-frequency noise well. Larger speakers might improve performance, but they could also block more sunlight and reduce the view from the window. In the future, the researchers hope to test the device in real homes and improve its design for everyday use.(实验所用扬声器体积很小,因此它们不能很好地处理深沉的低频噪声。更大的扬声器或许能提升性能,但它们也会遮挡更多阳光,遮挡窗外视野。未来,研究人员希望在真实住宅中测试这一装置,并改进其设计,投入日常使用。)”可知,这款装置还有很大改进空间。
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分 12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

根据上文“Eye contact plays a vital role in nonverbal communication. It shows your focus, helps understand others and develops friendly relations, since people tend to warm to those who maintain eye attention. Proper eye contact can start talks, ease stress or create closeness without any words.(眼神交流在非语言沟通中起着至关重要的作用。

根据上文“Try the triangle gazing (注视) method. Fixed long-time eye focus often brings discomfort. If you fail to form natural eye rhythm, shift your gaze from one eye to the other, then down to the mouth and back.(尝试三角注视法。
根据上文“Follow the three-second gazing rule. Research proves 3 seconds is the most comfortable staring length, about one short sentence. Look away for a moment and continue eye contact afterwards. A useful tip is to catch their eye color within 3 to 5 seconds.(遵循三秒凝视法则。

注意:
(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;
David rushed to find his dad and begged him for help

Holding the $100 he’d earned, David hurried to the soup kitchen.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
David rushed to find his dad and begged him for help. “Dad, can you use your car to crush the cans? They take up too much space!” His father nodded, and together they headed for the garage. David set about sorting the cans into neat piles, and then his dad drove slowly over each pile to flatten them. After packing all the cans, they drove to the scrap metal firm to sell them. With the $100 from the dealer, David felt a genuine satisfaction and asked his dad to drop him off at the community park.
Holding the $100 he’d earned, David hurried to the soup kitchen. Pushing open the door, David stepped inside and headed directly towards Jack who was busy distributing food. He held out the money and said, “Jack, I’ve collected cans to raise $100 for our charity.” Jack stepped forward in surprise, hugged him and took the money gently. “It’s so kind of you, David! Your help will make a real difference to the homeless!” Surrounded by the volunteers’ admiring looks, David felt his chest well with warmth. It turned out to be another fulfilling Saturday for him.
