The world is full of the sounds of animals communicating with each other: birds singing, crickets chirping, whales singing songs in the deep. Until now animal “language” has been a mystery to humanity. But now, all that may change. As AI technology and machine learning develop into new fields and areas, scientists are using it to interpret animal language.
More than 50 years ago researchers recorded the beautiful songs of humpback whales (座头鲸) and shared them with the world, which opened up a whole new field of study: whale communication. As the technology advanced, so did the field.
Scientific American reports that there is the Earth Species Project: a team of AI scientists, biologists, and conservationists who are building a machine-learning model that uses data from a wide range of animals to figure out what their actions and sounds mean. In addition, there are projects that focus on only one particular species such as the Project Cetacean Translation Initiative (CETI) which hopes to translate the language of sperm whales using AI.
CETI hopes that if humans can understand what’s going on inside whales’ minds—and, eventually, the minds of other animals—it might inspire greater conservation measures. The group has good reason to believe it could. In the 1960s, when researchers discovered that humpback whales sing to each other, for instance, their work led to the wildly successful Save the Whales campaign. Seriously threatened for decades, humpback and gray whale populations started to recover.
Marine biologists and computer scientists worked together to analyze the most comprehensive database of whale sounds. They did a study to see if they could design a tailored machine learning program capable of spotting familiar sequences within these interactions, much as humans have recognizable conversational patterns. The result was a new kind of proceasing model able to anticipate what some whales might communicate next.
This kind of work isn’t limited to whales. Across the natural world, scientists are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence for help to understand the lives of animals.
28. How does the author present the issue of animal language?
A. By quoting an expert. B. By giving examples.
C. By defining a concept. D. By providing statistics.
29. What does the author try to explain by mentioning the discovery in the 1960s?
A. Whale populations continue to grow. B. The government supports whale study.
C. Research contributes to decision-making. D. Scientific study helps protective measures.
30. What is one of the researchers’ findings about whale communication?
A. Its content can be predicted. B. It follows traditional patterns.
C. Its frequency can be spotted. D. It has been copied by humans.
31. What is the best title of the text?
A. The AI Tools in Biological Research B. The Mystery of Whale Communication
C. Using AI to Interpret Animal Language D. The Ways of Translating Animal Language
【答案】28. B 29. D 30. A 31. C

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍关于“人工智能等技术帮助解读动物语言”的科学研究项目。
【28题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第一段“The world is full of the sounds of animals communicating with each other: birds singing, crickets chirping, whales singing songs in the deep. (这个世界充满了动物相互交流的声音:鸟在歌唱,蟋蟀在啁啾,鲸鱼在深海唱歌。)”可推知,作者是通过举例提出动物语言的议题。故选B。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段首句中的“CETI hopes that if humans can understand what’s going on inside whales’ minds… it might inspire greater conservation measures. (CETI认为,如果人类能够了解鲸鱼以及其他动物的思想,这可能会激发更大的保护措施。)”和接着下文举例,在20世纪60年代,当研究人员发现座头鲸会互相唱歌时,他们的工作使“拯救鲸鱼”运动获得巨大成功。几十年来受到严重威胁的座头鲸和灰鲸的数量开始恢复。说明作者试图通过提及20世纪60年代的发现来解释科学研究有助于采取保护措施。故选D。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段最后一句“The result was a new kind of processing model able to anticipate what some whales might communicate next. (研究结果是一种新的处理模型,能够预测某些鲸鱼接下来可能交流的内容。)””可知,研究的结果是产生了一种新的处理模型,能够预测一些鲸鱼接下来可能交流的内容。所以研究者认为鲸鱼交流的内容是可预测的。故选A。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“As AI technology and machine learning develop into new fields and areas, scientists are using it to interpret animal language. (随着人工智能技术和机器学习发展到新的领域和领域,科学家们正在利用它来解释动物的语言。)”及全文可知,全文围绕“利用人工智能解读动物语言”展开:开头指出动物语言曾是谜团,如今AI可能改变这一现状;中间介绍CETI项目,说明技术如何被用于分析动物声音;结尾提到该研究不仅限于鲸鱼,而是正在扩展到更多动物。故选C。
D
“There’s nothing more truly artistic than to love people,” said the famous painter Vincent van Gogh. He implies that the highest form of art lies not in painting brushes but in our ability to truly love and appreciate others. The spirit of that comment might undergird new research findings that show spending just 30 minutes in an arts and culture museum has a number of positive mental health benefits, including measurably reducing the stress hormone (激素).
Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania reviewed more than 100 studies that explore the emotional experience of visiting a museum, and Katherine Cotter, a postdoctoral fellow, concluded that museum visits yield mental health benefits. “When we enter a museum, we’re entering it with an intention,” Cotter told the PBS station.
Visiting a museum, she added, draws us away from the time and place where we live and pulls us into the experience of seeing the world through another person’s eyes. “We engage different mindsets and different cognitive (认知的) processes,” she said. “Once we get into the center of the museum visit, we see ourselves more concerned communally(共同地), thinking about how things are interrelated in the world more broadly.”
Walking through an art museum, large or small, is about more than spending time in a cool, quiet and interesting space. Notably, Cotter identified a reduction in feelings of loneliness as one of the mental health benefits of visiting art museums.
Part of the reason for this could be the communal experience of observing artworks together with other like-minded individuals. But it is also the art itself that brings us into a feeling of connection with other human beings — creators, thinkers, observers — who remind us that each of us has a point of view, something to say and something to teach and learn from the world around us.
And so we return to van Gogh’s observation. Perhaps we benefit from broadening our view of the world by exploring art and culture, in part, because the experience of being human is in itself just that — an art form.
32. What does the new research point out at the beginning of the text?
A. Changing your worldview can change your life.
B. Museum visit is the best emotional experience.
C. Visiting an art museum is good for mental health.
D. Museums create environments for better learning.
33. What does the underlined word “undergird” mean in paragraph 1?
A. Threaten. B. Monitor. C. Distinguish. D. Support.
34. How did researchers at the University of Pennsylvania conduct the research?
A. By visiting different museums. B. By reviewing previous studies.
C. By doing psychological experiments. D. By concluding mental health benefits.
35. According to Katherine Cotter, what happens when we visit a museum?
A. We become more self-centered.
B. We stop thinking about our daily lives.
C. We observe the world in different views.
D. We show great interest in art and culture.
【答案】32. C 33. D 34. B 35. C

Are you tired of pulling all-nighter study sessions for tests? Do you end up with low grades despite your best efforts? You may benefit from learning how to study. The key is to understand that learning is not measured by the amount of time you spend, but by what additional knowledge you’ve gained from those experiences. _____36_____ Here are some study strategies.
Use daytime hours to study.
Prioritize academics when you are more energetic and have access to resources. In college, this might include tutors, professor office hours and labs. _____37_____ Then reward yourself during the evenings with social and personal time.
Review material close to when it was first presented.
The longer you wait before consolidating (巩固) the material, the more difficult it will be to connect to upcoming concepts. So don’t wait until the mid-term or final exam to study. Revisiting your notes with the lecture still fresh in your mind helps you both consolidate and clarify the information. _____38_____
_____39_____
Turn your phone off or move it out of sight. When the brain is constantly switching between tasks — from studying to an instant message and back again — it is harder to learn. What you think are only momentary interruptions result in huge losses in overall productivity. There are even apps that can help put you in control. Examples include Forest, AppBlock and Cold Turkey.
Get proper sleep, exercise and nutrition.
_____40_____ Your body needs proper care to allow you to learn. This is especially true for sleep. Lack of quality sleep can cause a lot of physical and mental damage in just a couple of days. Sleep not only supplies your energy, but is crucial in consolidating information.
A. Ask for help.
B. Control electronics.
C. Think quality — not quantity.
D. Some prefer using online study tools.
E. Take care of yourself, physically and mentally.

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使其构成一篇完整的短文。
In a quiet neighbourhood in Pune lived an old gardener named Mohan Kaka. His small house had the most beautiful garden in the entire area— roses of every colour, jasmine vines (茉莉花藤) climbing the walls, and a magnificent mango tree that bore sweet fruit every summer. With weathered hands that told the story of decades spent in the soil, Kaka tended his garden carefully every morning, watering, pruning (剪枝), talking gently to his plants.
One day, a young software engineer named Vikram moved into the house next door. Ambitious and always in a hurry, Vikram was used to instant satisfaction-fast food, fast Internet, fast career growth. One morning, he saw Kaka planting a young tree. Curious, he walked over. The old man told him it was a sandalwood (檀香) tree. When Vikram learned it would take twenty to thirty years to mature, he laughed, “Kaka, you’re seventy! You won’t live to see it grown. Why waste your time?”
Kaka looked up at Vikram, his eyes twinkling with wisdom. He led Vikram to the magnificent mango tree. “My grandfather planted it when I was five,” he said. “He never lived to taste its fruit. My father watered it for years before he passed away. Now I sit under its shade, eat its mangoes, and think of them both. They planted it for me, for you, for everyone who comes after.” Vikram fell silent.
“That sandalwood tree?” Kaka continued. “I may never see it grown. But maybe your children will. Maybe they will sit under its shade and thank an old gardener they never met. That’s enough for me.” He reminded Vikram that while his work brought quick results, life’s most important things — relationships, character and legacy (传承) — could not be rushed.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Vikram felt something shift inside him.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Soon, Vikram decided to plant a young tree of his own.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Vikram felt something shift inside him. He thought about his own life — constantly chasing the next achievement. He never stopped to think whether what he was building would last beyond his own lifetime. From that day on, Vikram started spending his mornings with Kaka in the garden. The old man taught him how to plant, how to wait, how to care for something without expecting immediate results. Vikram gradually understood that patience wasn’t wasting time, but sowing seeds for a future we might not see.
Soon, Vikram decided to plant a young tree of his own. He chose a small sandalwood sapling, just like Kaka’s. He watered it patiently every morning. As months passed without visible growth, sometimes his old impatience returned. He still couldn’t help rushing. But when he saw Kaka’s young tree and thought about his words, he comforted himself that legacy isn’t about speed — it’s about care. Underneath that soil, the tree’s roots are spreading wider than the branches above. We just can’t see them yet.

The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc., a nonprofit that honors leaders who have overcome adversity and supports young people in furthering their education, announced that Eileen Collins, retired U. S. Air Force Colonel and Former Space Shuttle (航天飞机) Commander at NASA, will receive the famous Horatio Alger Award and become a lifetime member of the organization.
Collins was born in Elmira, New York, in a household that faced financial hardship and instability. Despite these challenges, she developed an early fascination with aviation (航空) and space, and a dream of becoming a pilot.
After earning an associate’s degree from Corning Community College, Collins earned her bachelor’s in mathematics and economics at Syracuse University, where she joined the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps during her junior year. She continued her education with master’s degrees from Stanford University and Webster University. Collins was the first woman to earn pilot’s licenses at Vance Air Force Base.
Her distinguished career with NASA included commanding the first space shuttle mission following the Columbia disaster. Over the course of her career, she accumulated (积累) 6,751 hours in 30 different types of aircraft and spent 872 hours in space.
“As a child, I dreamed of becoming a great explorer, admiring the pilots and astronauts who came before me. Those dreams, which once seemed impossible, taught me the value of determination, and the courage to keep moving forward in the face of hardship,” said Eileen Collins.
Beyond her groundbreaking career, Collins is deeply committed to charity and mentorship (辅导). She served on the Astronaut Memorial Foundation Board of Directors for nine years and remains on its Board of Advisors. She also supports the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation and has used her career and experience to be a positive example for women entering male-dominated fields.
