Whether we are young or old, rich or poor, we have one thing in common: The moon has always looked down at each of us when it lights up the night sky.
Just like a mirror, the moon reflects the sun’s light. It can also reflect people’s feelings. This is probably why the moon is always popular among Western and Chinese music, poems and other forms of literature. So when we look at the moon, what exactly do we see looking back at us?
Well, that depends on who’s looking.
The ancient Greek poet (古希腊诗人) Sappho, for example, saw the moon as a woman who lit up space with her beauty.
Later in England, however, the moon’s image (形象) was completely different. In the Middle Ages, English people often drank to get away from difficult life. In their eyes, the moon was a man who liked drinking. In London, at least three pubs (酒馆) were named Man in the Moon. It’s probably because the bright moon at night looks like a man’s red face after drinking. A popular song sung in pubs at that time even went, “Our man in the moon drinks wine...”
▲ The Chinese Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai’s Quiet Night Thoughts reads, “I look up at the bright moon, and then I look down and think of home.” Similarly, Zhang Jiuling wrote in another poem, “Looking at the moon and thinking of one far away.” So in Chinese culture, when people look at the moon, they may miss their hometown or someone. It is very interesting, isn’t it?
36. What does the underlined word “reflects” mean?
A. B. C. D.
37. What does the moon probably stand for (代表) in ancient Greece?
A. A beautiful woman. B. The hometown.
C. A wine-loving man. D. The person who you miss.
38. Why were the pubs named Man in the Moon in London during the Middle Ages?
A. Because people believed that a man lived on the moon.
B. Because people liked looking up at the moon while drinking.
C. Because people wanted to get away from their difficult life to the moon.
D. Because people thought the bright moon looked like a man’s red face after drinking.
39. Which of the following can be put in the “ ▲ ”?
A. The bright moon caught Li Bai’s attention.
B. There were many famous poems in ancient China.
C. The moon is also a popular subject in Chinese poems.
D. Chinese people eat mooncakes while admiring the moon.
40. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. The exploration into the moon.
B. The moon’s images in different cultures.
C. Different ways to praise(赞誉) the moon around the world.
D. The relationship between the moon and people in different times.
【答案】36. C 37. A 38. D 39. C 40. B

【44题详解】
第①段为总起部分“The world’s fastest high-speed train is on the way.

As we all know, it’s challenging to learn a second language. Many students spend years studying to master (掌握) it. ____46____ The best part is that you can communicate with people from other countries. There are many other good points of learning another language.
When you are a bilingual (会说双语的人), your brain is more active. It involves more parts of the brain than when you only speak your own language, which means your brain has extra (额外的) work. ____47____ A study researched more than 200 elderly people. It found that it is much later for bilinguals to have memory problems. So, learning another language may help keep your brain young for longer.
____48____ Bilingual people often change between two different languages. It requires them to move their attention away from the language they aren’t using. As a result, they are better able to ignore outside distractions (分散注意力的事) and be more focused on the task at hand.
Moreover, learning a second language can make you more open-minded. You learn about different cultures and ways of thinking. ____49____ If you travel abroad, you can ask for directions, order food or chat with local people without trouble. This can make your trips more interesting and less stressful.
Clearly, being bilingual is far more useful than we think. Learning a new language isn’t just about talking to more people. ____50____ With all these good points, language learning doesn’t seem like such a chore at all.

① High-speed rail has been an effective means of travel for long journeys as it allows people to travel around easily and comfortably. The world’s fastest high-speed train is on the way. On December 29, 2024, China brought to light a prototype (雏形) of the train. It marks the new time for China’s high-speed rail.

④ In addition, the CR450 offers a quieter ride. The noise levels inside the train have been brought down. Meanwhile, seat spaces have been increased so that passengers can enjoy a more comfortable ride.
⑤ The new train has been tested across several high-speed rail lines in China. It is not yet ready for commercial (商业的) use though. Further tests are needed, said the China State Railway Group. All tests are set to be finished within two years.
⑥ China is now the world leader in railway development. It has built the world’s largest railway network. The network covers almost all corners of the country. The total length (长度) of rail lines has reached over 160,000 kilometers. More than 46,000 kilometers are high-speed rail lines. The aim is to have 60,000 kilometers of high-speed rail lines by 2030.
