Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·辽宁沈阳于洪区·期中)
Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness. Money and success alone do not bring lasting happiness. Aristotle, a Greek thinker, said, “Happiness depends on ourselves.” In other words, we make our own happiness. Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier.
The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future—for example, getting into college or getting a good job—that we fail to enjoy the present. You should enjoy life’s simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends. People who have several close friends often live happier and healthier lives.
Another secret of living a happy life is to be active and have hobbies where you forget your problems and time. Many people like dancing or playing a sport, such as swimming. You can forget about your problems and only think about the activity.
Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others. If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone. You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to buy food for an elderly person, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes.
1.What did the Greek thinker Aristotle say about happiness?
2.What will you be unable to enjoy if you spend too much time thinking about the future?
3.How will many people feel when they spend their time helping others according to the study?
4.Which way of keeping happy would you prefer? Try to explain in at least 30 words.
【答案】1.Happiness depends on ourselves. 2.The present. 3.They will feel good/happier. 4.I prefer to be active. Because when I am active and have hobbies, I can forget my problems and only think about the activity. This makes me feel relaxed and happy.

“OK class,” says Ms. Liu. “It’s time for our group project. Let’s get started!”
Yi Han is the leader of one group. She is not looking forward to working with her group because a boy named Li Tian is always absent from the group meetings. He doesn’t follow the rules, and he refuses to do any work. This slows the whole group down.
Yi Han considers telling Ms. Liu about these problems, but she doesn’t want to get Li Tian in trouble. Instead, she decides to talk to him and find out what the problem is. She says, “Everyone is working hard on our project. But so far, you have done nothing. Is there something wrong?”
Li Tian is quiet for a few seconds, and finally says, “It’s not that I don’t want to be in the group. Sometimes, I don’t really understand the things we’re learning. I know it’s not fair, but I don’t want to say something stupid, so I do nothing.”
Now Yi Han understands. She remembers feeling lost in Maths last year. Everyone needs a hand sometimes. Li Tian isn’t lazy—he just needs help! “From now on,” she says, “I will do my best to help you feel more confident. Then you can do your share, and it will be fair for everyone.” “Thank you! Sometimes we may be angry with our parents. Whether at school or at home, we aren’t allowed to do many things at times. Look! A few young people are talking about their “problems” with their parents on WeChat (微信).
Judy: My parents always hope I can be a good girl. What should a good girl in their eyes be like? I’m never allowed to hang out with friends at night. And I can’t wear too short skirts. On the Internet, I’m not allowed to talk to anyone strange to me. Are they really correct? I have no idea, but I only know I’m always upset!
Paul: Compared with Judy’s parents, my parents seem a little better. I’m not allowed to go online on weekdays, but I can do it on weekends. They never allow me to wear any strange clothes like some of my friends, but they often buy new clothes for me. Sometimes on Saturdays or Sundays, they even take me to certain parties!
Rosa: How lucky Paul is! I admire him a lot. Like Judy, my parents make many rules for me. For example, I’m not allowed to watch TV until I finish my homework. And I can’t keep my hair too long or make it curly. Besides, I’m never allowed to talk with any boy at any time. Are they really kind to me? I can’t stand them!
Tony: I don’t think all that parents have done for us is wrong. In fact, they make rules to help us. We are young and active, but not serious enough to do everything well. 主题02 人与社会——观点看法
Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·辽宁沈阳120中学·期中)
Fashion trends (趋势) are around us, and can be exciting. A trend used to happen in a 20-year cycle, but the latest development of the Internet and clothing business has increasingly cut the length of the cycle short. Now, it seems there comes a new fashion trend every couple of months, but it still follows the same stages:
●A trend is usually first brought in during a big fashion show. Reporters, writers, and some other important people collect what they have learned in the show and predict a trend in the near future.
●Then the trend is talked about online and finally worn by famous people to make it better accepted, which leads to the rise of the trend.
●Once the trend becomes popular, it will go to the public soon. Large clothing companies and shops begin following the trend so that everyone can get their hands on it. This is when the trend gets to the highest point.
●After that, the trend usually falls and becomes out of date. However, this is not always the end, as trends happen in broader cycles and most get popular again.
Trends can be a great way to try something new and test your style. A survey says some people enjoy following trends because they keep fashion exciting and provide fresh ideas. However, others may not think so, especially when a trend doesn’t agree with how they feel about themselves. Trends can be fun, but sometimes prove a waste of money because many simply see trends as brands (品牌). So, should we follow fashion trends?
Clearly, there’s no right answer whether to follow trends or not depends on how they go with your values, spending, and sense of self. It does not hurt to watch trend reports but never choose to follow them unless you really think they fit with your personal style.
1.How long does a new fashion trend last now?
2.Who usually first realizes a new fashion trend?
3.Which situation means the trend has reached the highest point?
4.Do you prefer brands when buying clothes? Why or why not? (Write 30 words or more.)

After a busy day at work, I got on the train to go home. I went to a quiet area in order to read. I sat down and took out my book.
Suddenly, a girl opposite me started playing loud music on her phone. What a shock! I almost jumped up in surprise.
A minute later, the man next to me took out several packets of food. It was like he was on a picnic. People have to eat, of course, but the food was so smelly I was like someone had left a bag of dirty socks next to me.
I covered my ears to block the noise coming from Rock Girl. I covered my nose to reduce the smell coming from Mr Smelly Food.
I turned around to see the other passengers’ faces. They also seemed unhappy, but no one did anything. Will they think me a fool if I do something? I looked at the signs on the wall. They read “Please be quiet” and “No smelly food”. Everyone knows the rules, I thought. They aren’t just on the wall but also in our minds and hearts. And rules are there for us to follow!

Autumn in the UK was always a fun time when I was a child. At school, we loved collecting conkers (板栗). They fall from trees. Finding a perfect conker felt great! We played the classic game called conkers (打板栗游戏). You tie a string to a conker and try to hit your friend’s conker. It is such a popular game that there’s even a World Conker Championship every October.
Autumn is also a time for food. At home, my mom makes delicious British dumplings. Different from Chinese jiaozi, these dumplings are served in a warm meat soup. They are perfect for autumn days.
By David House
In the US, apples are the stars of fall. People drink apple juice and enjoy apple pie. Many people travel to farms to play bobbing for apples. In that game, you keep your hands behind your back and try to pick up apples from water—using only your teeth!
Pumpkin spice latte (南瓜香料拿铁) is another fall favorite at coffee shops like Starbucks. But one US fall food you may not know is chili. Chili is a dish made with meat, beans, onions and tomatoes. People often put cheese on top. For me, homemade chili was a happy part of growing up. It filled my stomach and warmed my heart.

Some girls today love xiaoxianrou, or “little fresh meat”, which refers to young male stars who are delicate (精致的) and cute. Lin Bing just wants to be that man, so he has spent around 80,000 yuan on his face since his first plastic surgery (整形手术) four years ago. “Getting plastic surgeries is just as usual as bodybuilding. Both make men more handsome and confident,” says the 33-year-old young man.
Lin Bing is among a growing number of Chinese men using plastic surgeries to change their physical appearance (外貌) to increase their self-confidence. In 2024, the market for medical beauty in China was worth more than 695 billion yuan. Surprisingly, around 25 percent of customers were males, while this was only 5 percent in 2020, according to a report by plastic surgery social networking app Gengmei.
There is a rising trend (潮流) of young men turning to plastic surgeries; most male customers are in their teens or 20s. “Some men just want to please themselves, while others hope to improve their possibility in the job market,” says Wang Jun, vice-president of marketing for Gengmei. “Men are under the same social stress as women and their confidence and competitiveness would be more or less weakened by facial and body weaknesses.”
However, Fan Jufeng, director of the Plastic Surgery Department at Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, does not encourage people, no matter men or women, to “blindly” go under the knife. Fan points out that people should think about the risks of plastic surgeries first.
Fan also warned the public of the bad influences of live streaming celebrities (流量明星) who spread the misunderstanding—“Pretty goes above all else.” He advised that whether to have plastic surgeries should be based on personal needs. Fan says, “Think twice about it. After all, a rich and beautiful inner beauty is far more important than a pretty face.”

Passage 1

Some people think they know everything, but Anansi the spider didn’t think that. He knew that to have real wisdom (智慧), he had to learn more.
One day, Anansi found an empty basket and he had an idea. “If I get advice from others and put it in this basket, then I will be wiser than anyone else in the world.”
So, he went from house to house and asked the other animals, “What’s your best piece of advice?” And they were all happy to share their wisdom.
The bee said, “You should never judge (评判) people by their looks. Under an ugly coat, there’s often a beautiful heart.”
The snail (蜗牛) said, “Don’t be in a hurry. Life isn’t a 100-metre race.”
The ant said, “You’ll never be great on your own. Everyone needs the help of others.”
The fly said, “Work for eight hours, sleep for eight hours, and play for eight hours.”
Anansi was happy with the advice he got. He thought, “I have more wisdom now but I must hide it, so no one can steal (偷) it.” He looked around and saw a hole high up in the tree. “That’s where I’ll hide the wisdom,” he said.
But the basket was so big that Anansi could hardly climb the tree. His son was nearby watching him. “Daddy, why not tie the basket to your back to climb the tree?” “Cool. Thank you for sharing your advice,” said Anansi, and at that moment he realized that advice is only useful when we share it with someone.

The greatest scientists are famous not only for their discoveries, but also for their interesting lives. Having a special, uncommon mind often goes hand in hand with unusual acts.
Nikola Tesla is known for many inventions. One is the alternating-current (AC) electricity (交流电). While inventing, Tesla was good at keeping things in mind, because he used picture thinking and imagined every step in his mind first. Tesla said he wanted to do it because of his mother, who invented small electrical machines when he was a child.
Another scientist encouraged by his mother was Albert Einstein, though what he got from his mother was a love of music. In fact, Einstein often played music on the piano and violin to help him brainstorm.
Einstein’s great works include the most famous E= mc2 and his theory of relativity. However, thanks to his wild hair, he is also well-known for the looks of a “mad scientist” and you can tell that he had some interesting quirks (怪癖). For example, he had a strong dislike of wearing socks.

Passage 4
(25-26九年级上·辽宁大连79中·期中)
New Tables, New tales
What is “Tischtennis”?
It’s fine if you have no idea. But Fan Zhendong, the Chinese table tennis superstar, knows the word very well now. “Tischtennis” means “table tennis” in German. These days, Fan even greets journalists with “Guten Tag,” instead of “Da Jia Hao.”
It’s not surprising that Fan is picking up German—when in Germany, speak as the Germans speak. The Olympic champion has joined 1. FC Saarbrücken-Tischtennis. This German table tennis club is one of the strongest in Europe. For the 2025-26 season, Fan will compete with his new teammates in the Tischtennis-Bundesliga (TTBL, 德国乒乓球甲级联赛), the German Cup and the Champions League.
Many fans see Fan as a leader of China’s new generation of table tennis players. But the star isn’t just pleased to rest at the top of his sport. Instead, he says he is “looking forward to more challenges.” That’s why he set off on a new journey in Germany. It takes real courage for a top player like him to make such a decision.
Moving to foreign soil is no walk in the park. Language is only the first hurdle. Fan also needs to get used to the tables, the balls and the opponents. Everything feels a bit different from back home in China. On his TTBL debut on August 31, he even lost both of his matches. Fortunately, he soon seemed to hit his stride (渐入佳境). On his second matchday, September 7, he helped his team get its first victory of the season, and one week later, its first home win.
Are you a fan of Fan? Would you follow his example and challenge yourself with something new? Perhaps you’re memorizing new words, studying new subjects and getting used to new teachers as a new school year begins. You might feel like a fish out of water at first. But, just as Fan’s new opponents will sharpen his skills, your challenges will shape you into a stronger, wiser person.
As Fan continues to explore his new world, remind yourself not to fear the challenges in your own life. See them as stepping stones on your own path to growth.
1.What does “Tischtennis” mean?

Passage 1
(25-26·辽宁抚顺顺城区·期中)
Three years ago I moved back to America, but some wonderful memories (记忆) in China have always stayed with me which made me fall in love with Chinese culture.
One day, in one corner of a restaurant in Beijing, I saw a painted clay dog: green and blue, with large ears and a long tail. The dog was smiling at me all through dinner. Over the next few days, I kept thinking about it. I searched for information about the dog and finally knew where it was from—Fengxiang, Shaanxi Province. As the Chinese New Year holiday was coming up, my husband and I decided to go there to explore the clay culture.
We arrived at a tiny village in Fengxiang. There was only a street with a row of modest (朴素的) homes. We walked into the workrooms, where lots of clay animals sat on tables and waited for coats of paint. One of the workers explained that the objects were nisu, dating back to the Spring and Autumn period. They are decorative (装饰性的) objects and most of them often modeled on Chinese animal signs, with floral patterns (花卉图案) and bright colors. Locals make a living by selling them to visitors.
My husband and I spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the village. We finally left with our arms full of clay animals.

(25-26九年级上·辽宁本溪·期中)
When Xiong Chuanfa, 34, blows a lifelike tiger out of sugar in just minutes, kids look at him in surprise, thinking he is a magician.
Xiong has been blowing sugar figurines (吹糖人) for over twenty years. Blowing sugar figurines is a traditional Chinese folk art with a history of over 600 years and has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage (国家级非物质文化遗产).
Every morning, Xiong prepares the sugar and drives to different markets in Nanchang to start his magic show.
He heats the sugar, pulls off a little to make a ball and blows it into different shapes—a rabbit, a monkey, and even a Bing Dwen Dwen, the mascot of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
People, especially little kids, are interested in his skills. To draw young people closer to the art, he also stops by colleges.
Many college students have been drawn to the art, waiting in line for hands-on experience. Among them, Simon, a foreign student, couldn’t help having a try. Though it looked easy, he found it difficult to make it. Thanks to Xiong’s help. Simon finally saw a horse slowly taking shape.
Simon was deeply moved after learning about the art. “I just can’t believe the traditional folk art be kept so well here. I love it. Chinese culture should be spread around the world.” he said.

“Humans can develop certain abilities we aren’t born with by practicing animals’ movements,” the traditional Chinese Wushu lovers believed in the past—and still do today.
Chinese Five-Animal Exercises, also known as Wuqinxi, are the first complete set of qigong exercises following the movements of animals: monkeys, deer, birds, bears and tigers. They were created by one of the greatest doctors in Chinese history, Hua Tuo, more than 1,800 years ago.
The Five-Animal Exercises are well-designed to help blood circulation and let the energy go smoothly in the body so as to improve health.
“The bear movements are good for the stomach. The tiger movements can reduce the pain in the back. The deer movements help reduce the fat around the waist (腰). The bird movements can help keep our knees healthy, and the monkey movements can be good for the heart,” said Hua Yi, the 59th inheritor (继承人) of Wuqinxi.
For those new learners, the first few exercises might not go well. You may find it hard to focus. Wear comfortable clothes, keep peaceful in your mind, try to move slowly... Little by little, you’ll feel more and more harmonious with nature. You may even feel you become a tiger or a deer, walking in the forest freely.
These exercises need no tools, and they are easy to learn. You can search online for the videos and practice them at any time when you feel like relaxing your body and mind. Because it’s fun to practice and good for health, Five-Animal Exercises are becoming more and more popular in recent years, not only in China, but also in many other places of the world.

Grandparents Day
Grandparents Day, celebrated on the first Sunday after Labour Day (first Monday in September) in the US, did not start as a way to sell cards and flowers. It is said that it had something to do with a determined (坚定的) woman, Marian McQuade.
McQuade’s interest in connecting generations (一代人) began when she was a child visiting her grandmother on the family farm. After chores were done, she would visit elderly neighbours with her grandmother, often taking along food and gifts. These experiences, along with her close relationship with her grandmother, planted the seeds for a lifetime of helping the elderly.
When McQuade grew up, she got married and became a housewife. She took care of her kids and had many grandchildren. She believed that spending time with your elderly loved ones was very important and wanted to create a holiday where families could enjoy themselves together. In the early 1970s, she started her journey to make the holiday a reality (现实).

A Wonderful Christmas Gift
Christmas was so close, and so was Ann’s birthday. She wished she could get a new dress with frills (荷叶边) and lace (蕾丝) as a wonderful Christmas gift. But Ann did not want to ask her mom for that. She knew how hard her mom worked to make a living. Maybe she could make a wish —— maybe Santa Claus (圣诞老人) would come...
At school her classmates were talking only about Christmas celebrations. “My rich aunt is surely going to give me a pretty doll again,” said Ria.
“I have been hinting (暗示) about that costly watch to my parents,” told Tessie.
Ann felt out of these conversations. She had neither rich parents nor wealthy aunts to give her expensive gifts.
It was not just the gift that worried Ann. It was her mother. Recently she was working overtime and looked pale and worn out.
Soon it was Christmas Eve. In everyone’s house there was a decorated Christmas tree, but Ann’s house was cold and empty. Every child went to bed eagerly waiting for the lovely gifts. Ann went to bed, wishing that at least this time she would get a gift from Santa Claus. Ann slowly drifted off to sleep. She dreamed of Santa riding in the snow...
The next morning Ann jumped up after hearing her alarm. Out of her expectation, there lay a beautiful packet tied with a red ribbon near her bed. Inside the package was a pretty white dress with fluffy frills and attractive lace!
Ann checked the gift carefully to find out who had given her this beautiful dress. Suddenly a small piece of paper fell out from the dress.
Dear Ann, This dress is gifted to you for being a good girl. Hope you continue to do good things and help your mother.
Your Loving friend,
Santa Claus
Ann felt that there was something familiar about this note. She looked into the note carefully. Then it struck her. She realized that this handwriting was similar to her mother’s. Her mother had worked overtime to save money to buy this expensive gift. Ann was happy beyond words. She knew that she was the luckiest girl to have been given the best Christmas gift.

Passage 3

New Year is a wonderful time when family and friends come together to say goodbye to the old year and welcome the new one. People all around the world celebrate the New Year with music, special food, and fireworks, though the celebration may take place at different times.
In the UK, many people gather in London on December 31 to see the famous Big Ben clock tower and count down to midnight. Research suggests that millions also watch it on TV. At midnight, they sing Auld Lang Syne, a traditional Scottish song, to remember friends and family. In the US, people have similar customs. A famous tradition involves the dropping of a big ball in New York’s Times Square. Huge crowds gather to watch, and when the ball reaches the bottom, everyone wishes each other “Happy New Year!”
The Chinese New Year, or the Spring Festival, holds great importance in China. People sweep out dust from their houses, hang couplets, set off fireworks, and enjoy lion or dragon dances. One very important custom is that people will all try to return home and enjoy the family dinner on the eve of the Spring Festival. Grandparents, parents, and children gather to eat delicious food and express best wishes for the whole family. This reunion shows that family is hugely important in Chinese culture.
In Egypt, people celebrate Sham El-Nessim in April to mark the beginning of spring. The name of the festival means “smelling the breeze”. At this time, the weather becomes brighter, and the flowers and trees begin to show their colors. People paint eggs as symbols of new life and new beginnings. They also go out and enjoy picnics, dance, sing, and watch plays in the theater.

China’s “four great new inventions” in modern times have made the daily life of the public more and more convenient. They are the high-speed railway (HSR), shopping online, shared bikes and mobile phone payment.
Living in Hong Kong, I knew them from the papers, the TV and the Internet. But last month I had the chance to experience all of them.
As usual, the golden week stopped the traffic. It was hard to get a railway ticket anywhere in the train stations. But I bought a train ticket to Beijing on the Internet and paid for it through Zhifubao. It was even cheaper than it was bought in the station. Then we got on the high-speed train. I was shocked at its speed and quietness. There was no noise which the train made while running. It was reported that China has the longest h$

Passage 2
(25-26九年级上·辽宁沈阳康平·期中)
I’ll try hard to do my part,” says Li Tian.
Yi Han feels happy. She realizes that talking about problems is better than keeping them as secrets.
1.What does Ms. Liu ask her students to do?
2.Why does Yi Han not tell Ms. Liu about Li Tian’s problems?
3.What does Li Tian promise to do at last?

Passage 3
(25-26九年级上·辽宁朝阳双塔区·期中)
My parents are also strict with me. They don’t allow me to do many things I like, either. However, I understand them. They are trying to lead me in a healthy and correct way so that I can grow up healthily. What do you think about these?
1.How many students share their “problems” with their parents?
2.Is Judy allowed to hang out with friends at night?
3.What does Rosa think of her family rules?
4.Are there any rules in your family? How do you like them? (No less than 30 words)

Suddenly, I took a deep breath, stood up and cleared my throat. “Let’s all remember the rules,” I said calmly, pointing at the signs. The music stopped and the food was put away. I finally read my book in peace.
1.Why did the writer go to a quiet area on the train?
2.What did the girl opposite the writer suddenly do?
3.How was the food the man was eating?

During the break times between classes, Xiao Jingsheng from Beijing Shangdi Experimental School often complained that he had little time for sports. But now that has changed. “I can have more time to rest and share interesting things with my classmates,” said the 14-year-old.
Since last fall term, students at primary and middle schools have had longer breaks between classes. It has been changed from 10 minutes to 15 minutes. So students can spend more time outdoors on their physical and mental (心理的) health.
To help children better enjoy break-time activities, some schools have opened up activity areas indoors. At the School Research Center, the ground floor of the teaching building is built as a biology lab for students to study the life of animals and plants. The second floor of it is used as spaces for free reading and chess games. Other schools have mixed break time with labor (劳动) education. For example, they open planting areas and animal feeding areas for students. “We have welcomed new friends to our school—some ducks and rabbits!” said Zhang Boren, a 13-year-old from Beijing 101 Middle School Kuangda Campus. “During the breaks, some play with these cute animals, while others exercise on the playground. We get closer to nature, which is refreshing and relaxing.”
As the break time is longer, making sure everyone is safe is also important. PE teachers are busy keeping an eye on students playing on the ground. “Sometimes the ground can be wet in the morning, so we tell the students to do more upper body exercises to avoid running and slipping (滑倒) ,” said one PE teacher.

Many of us don’t pay much attention to the importance of eye care. It is said that if you take care of your body, then you can surely be healthy. That is why our eyes should be given a lot of care. Natural eye care should be put in a number one place.
There are several causes leading to poor eyesight like not enough food, genes (基因) and aging (老化). Televisions, computers and reading are also the causes of having poor eyesight. If you happen to work in front of the computer, it is best to take a break every once in a while. Something dirty can cause redness and it will make you feel uncomfortable. It is bad for your eyes, too. If this happens, the best way is to clean your eyes by using cold water. You must also try your best to protect your eyes from harmful things. For example, sunglasses are not just for fashion but they can also serve as a great way to protect your eyesight from UV rays.
Eating healthy foods will do good to your eyesight. Remember that vitamins A, C and E are good for eyes.
Try to eat food groups that have these vitamins. And you should do eye exercises because exercise protects your eyesight, too. If a person does regular exercise and eats the right kind of food, his eyes will stay in good condition for a long time.

There was a boy who got angry all the time. His parents were worried about him. So, they finally decided to ask a teacher for help.
The teacher asked the boy to make two hearts with clay (黏土) first. The boy nodded his head in agreement. Soon, he got angry because he thought it was meaningless. But he told himself to control his anger and finish the teacher’s task first. Then the boy was ordered to heat one in the fire. After a while, he came back with the heated heart. The teacher told him to break the heart rather than place it carefully. Although the boy was doubtful, he picked up a stone and broke it. It was broken easily. Then he was asked to break the other to see if it was different from the heated one. But it was also broken at once.
Then the teacher explained patiently, “These hearts are like our real hearts. When we can’t control ourselves, our hearts will heat up because of anger. You think the heated heart could be much stronger, but in fact it is very fragile (脆弱的). Max read more than anyone he knew. He loved to read during all of his free time. His friends laughed at him because he would rather read than play video games.
One day, Max was reading a magazine article about volcanoes (火山) and told his friends all about them. The very next week, his class was given a science project on volcanoes. Guess who everyone wanted in their project group? Max’s friends weren’t laughing at him anymore.
Max ended up being in a group with Liz, Anna and Josh. The project was to make a poster board with information about volcanoes and to build a volcano model.
Max made copies of the magazine article about volcanoes, so his project partners could read about them, too. They also went to the library for more information about volcanoes together.
The group met at Anna’s house that night to organize the information and decide what they wanted to put on the poster board. They all asked Max what he thought was the most important. Then they decided on the following steps together.
The next night, they met at Josh’s house to build their volcano. First, they made a volcano shape with the cardboard, and then they covered the shape in brown and red clay. The red was lava (岩浆) flowing down the volcano. They also put red clay at the top of the volcano to make it look like it was erupting (喷发).

A:
Dear Juliet,
I know how you feel. As an amateur (业余爱好的) guitarist, I sometimes play with very great musicians. It used to make me feel stressed out. But now, I think differently. I just work harder at my instrument. Now that (既然) they agree to play with me, I have reason to believe I must be good at something. So I take the opportunity to watch, listen and learn from them.
If this girl wants to be your friend, it’s because she sees something good in you. You earn (赢得) her friendship. Keep being your wonderful self.
Daniel
B:
Dear Juliet,
I also have a “perfect” friend. And I used to worry that I wasn’t good enough to be her friend. One day I told her my worries. But she said she would always accept who I am and be my best friend forever.

At the Paris 2024 Olympics, 21-year-old Zheng Qinwen made history. She became the first Chinese player to win an Olympic tennis singles gold medal.
On August 3rd, Zheng beat Croatia’s Donna Vekic in the women’s final. The win is China’s best result in the Olympic tennis women’s singles event. Zheng was so excited that she threw her racquet (球拍) into the air and lay on the ground to celebrate the historic moment for herself and China. “I’m so happy that I could make history for Chinese tennis because I have always wanted to be one of the players who can win a medal for our country. And right now, I am one of them,” Zheng said.
Zheng succeeded because of her great talent (天赋) in tennis. But her success also comes from her self-discipline (自律) and hard work. She follows a strict diet in her daily life. She seldom has snacks or drinks. She eats chicken breast and broccoli during the competition. For most people, such eating habits are hard to imagine, but for Zheng, this is an important part of keeping her best condition (状态) in competitions. What’s more, she gets up at 4:30 a.m. for training. She is always the first to arrive at the court and the last to leave. She never slacks off (偷懒) during training.
Zheng’s win at the Paris 2024 Olympics is a big deal. It shows that with hard work and a strong will, dreams can come true. Zheng is a great role model for young people. As for the future, she says she still has many dreams to realize and that she will work harder.

Sometimes, the smartest of us are also the strangest. That quiet child in the corner may one day be the next Tesla or Einstein.
1.What is one of Tesla’s famous inventions?
2.Why could Tesla keep things in mind while inventing?
3.What did Einstein get from his mother to help brainstorm?
4.Which scientist mentioned in the passage do you like more? Give your reason(s). Write 30 words or more.

Just after Wu Yanni finished her 60m hurdles semifinals (跨栏半决赛) in 8.01 seconds (秒) at the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, she knew she had made history.
Although she did not reach the final, the 27-year-old Chinese hurdler (跨栏运动员) broke China’s 11-year-old national record of 8.02 seconds. It also helped her become No.1 in Asia.
Wu’s progress has been non-stop. Since 2018, she has won five national 100m hurdles titles (冠军). Last season, she got a ticket to the Paris Olympics in the 100m hurdles and improved her 60m hurdles mark from 8.15 seconds to 8.06.
Hurdling tests power and speed (速度), so getting faster by even 0.01 seconds is really hard. To get better, Wu spent her training time building up her body. Her weighted squats (负重深蹲) went up from 90kg to 120kg, and her starting speed got faster.
Now Wu has set her eyes on bigger goals (目标). Her next is to break the national record of 100m hurdles before trying for an Asian record and an Olympic final. “I can’t keep telling myself how good I am. I need to focus on (专注于) improving my skills.” Wu said.
1.What did Wu Yanni do to make history in Nanjing?
2.How many national 100m hurdles titles has Wu won since 2018?
3.Why is it hard to get faster by 0.01 seconds in hurdling?
4.Wu works for her goals. What’s your goal in your life? Write 30 words or more.

2.Why did Fan Zhendong decide to start a new sport journey in Germany?
3.What challenges is Fan facing? List one.
4.How will you challenge yourself with something new? Write 30 words or more.

1.What made the author unforgettable in the restaurant?
2.Why did the author go to Fengxiang?
3.How do people in Fengxiang make a living?
4.Which traditional Chinese art form do you like best? Give your reasons. Write 30 words or more.

This art has been passed down (传承) for four generations (代) in Xiong’s family. His 6-year-old son often blows sugar balloons, just like what he used to do as a child.
“We will pass on the intangible cultural heritage,” said Xiong.

2.Why does Xiong Chuanfa stop by colleges?
3.Was blowing sugar figurines easy or difficult for Simon?

根据语篇内容,按要求回答问题。

(25-26九年级上·辽宁大连金普新区·期中)
She kept calling and writing letters to the local and state leaders until she finally got attention in 1973 from Senator (参议员) Jennings Randolph. He introduced to the Senate the idea of making Grandparents Day a national holiday. His plan fell through in the Senate, but McQuade didn’t get discouraged (气馁的). After years of efforts, her hard work paid off on August 3rd in 1978, when the then president officially (正式地) made Grandparents Day a national holiday. He also stated (陈述) how important it was to honour grandparents and understand the value of family.
Although Grandparents Day began in the US, it is now celebrated in many other countries. In Germany, Grandparents Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in October. In Mexico, it is on August 28th, when children often prepare a special meal for their grandparents or give gifts to them.

2.What did McQuade do to make the holiday a reality?
3.Do other countries celebrate Grandparents Day?

1.What did Ann want for Christmas?
2.Why did Ann feel out of the conversations of her classmates?
3.How was Ann’s house different from other people’s houses on Christmas Eve?
4.Did Ann think that she had been given the best Christmas gift? Why or why not?

Passage 3
(25-26九年级上·辽宁丹东振兴区·期中)
Although New Year festivals are different all over the world, they have one thing in common. In almost every country, people believe that it is a special time to connect with their family and friends and show hope for the coming year.
1.When do the people in London celebrate New Year?
2.Why do all the Chinese people like to return home during the Spring Festival?
3.How do Egyptian people celebrate Sham El-Nessim?
4.What is your favorite Chinese festival? Why? Write 30 words or more.
Passage 4

The Spring Festival is always the most exciting and joyful time in China. Last year, Liu Ying’s family prepared for it early. According to the tradition, they cleaned every corner of the house and hung new couplets on the front door.
On New Year’s Eve, the whole family got together in Liu’s grandparents’ house. Her grandma taught her how to wrap (包) dumplings properly. Though her first few dumplings looked quite funny—some were too fat, others too thin—everyone just laughed kindly. Liu’s grandmother put a coin in one special dumpling. It’s said that whoever eats the dumpling with the coin inside will have good luck.
As midnight approached (临近), all the family enjoyed the delicious dumplings together at the family table. Since Liu Ying made the dumplings herself, she ate a few more. Suddenly, her cousin shouted happily—he had found the coin in the dumpling! How lucky! Then they all went outside to watch the fireworks. The dark sky lit up with bright colors, while the sounds of firecrackers (鞭炮) filled the air with joy.
Standing there with her smiling family, Liu Ying truly understood why the Spring Festival means so much to Chinese people. It’s not just about the special foods or beautiful decorations (装饰). It’s about family being together, sharing laughter and love. It’s a time when everyone feels happy and hopeful for the new year.
1.Where are the new couplets hung according to the tradition?
2.What does the coin in the dumpling stand for (代表)?
3.Why did Liu Ying eat more dumplings?

Passage 1
(25-26九年级上·辽宁鞍山铁东区·期中)
On Sept 3, a big military parade (阅兵) took place in Beijing. It has been 80 years since the victory (胜利) in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-1945) and the World Anti-Fascist War (中国人民抗日战争暨世界反法西斯战争). It was a time to remember and learn from history.
In 1931, Japan occupied (占领) parts of Northeast China. In 1937, it started a full invasion (侵略). The Chinese people fought bravely for more than 10 years. About 35 million Chinese were killed or injured. China made a great contribution (贡献) to the victory in World War II in 1945 and helped bring peace to the world.
These experiences show the Chinese people’s love of peace, not the “law of the jungle (丛林法则).”
Today, the world must also choose between peace and war, dialogue and fighting. For example, Japan wants to change its pacifist Constitution (和平宪法) . At the same time, the US has made imports (进口) more expensive. This is very bad for the world economy (经济).
The experience of the World Anti-Fascist War showed that countries must work together to solve common problems.
China now wants to improve its economy, science, culture, and relationships with other countries. The country also needs a modern army to stay safe and keep world peace.
The parade has shown China’s support for peace. It also shows that the country has grown stronger after its painful (痛苦的) experiences in the past.
1.When did Japan start a full invasion?
2.List two things which are very bad for the world economy.
3.What did the experience of the World Anti-Fascist War show?
4.What do you think of the big military parade? Why? (Write more than 30 words)

In the big cities with many chances, some young people are now looking at China’s countryside for their dreams. Ren Yin, a 27-year-old young woman from Hongcun village in Hangzhou, is one of them.
In 2017, China introduced the rural vitalization strategy (乡村振兴战略). It helps businesses, offers nice places to live and builds community spirit, making life better for people in the countryside. Ren wanted to have her own cafe and help her country. In 2022, she started a cafe in her village, just one year after she left her teaching job.
Her parents weren’t on her side at the beginning. They thought her talents might not be used well. But Ren chose to follow her heart, saying that’s what her generation (一辈) does.
Growing up after China’s reform and opening-up (改革开放) and the one-child policy (政策), Ren and others of her age are very independent (独立的). They know they want to follow their dreams, said China Youth Daily.
However, starting a cafe is not easy. Ren is thankful for the support from the villagers who helped her find a place for her cafe and improved the roads. To attract (吸引) more people, she designed her cafe to look different, with a special shape and special drinks like mountain walnut-flavored lattes (山核桃味拿铁).
But Ren knows it’s hard to keep her business going. So she hopes that when the nearby Jingshan Temple becomes a place of interest, it will help her cafe and other businesses in the area.
Despite (尽管) the challenges, Ren doesn’t regret (后悔) moving back to the countryside. “I think many countryside areas in China are like hidden treasures waiting to be found,” she said.

2.Why didn’t Ren Yin’s parents support her decision at first?
3.How did the people in the village support her?

It was reported that China has the longest high-speed railway in the world, which is regarded as a “name card” for China.
Did I feel bored during the trip on the train? Not at all. I bought many cheap and good things in Taobao and Tmall on the Internet through my mobile phone. It’s amazing that there are oceans of products in Taobao and Tmall.
Soon we arrived in Beijing. We got on a bus near the train station. After getting off the bus, my friend told me that the bus stop is far from his home. I thought we would have to spend much money going to his home on a taxi, but it seemed that he wasn’t worried about that. He showed me some bikes on the side of the street. They are called shared bikes. We only need to use our mobile phones to scan the Quick-Response code (二维码) on shared bikes, and then we could ride the bikes anywhere we wanted to go. It was so cool
1.What is regarded as a “name card” for China?
2.Where did the writer buy many good and cheap things?
3.How can people use shared bikes?
4.What do you think of China’s “four great new inventions” in modern times? (Write 30 words or more)

AI is a big hit right now. “Students need to learn about AI’s value, ethics (伦理) and how to use it properly,” said Gong Yuanli, a teacher of the information technology department at Beijing No. 8 High School.
This term, more than 1,400 schools in Beijing started a new course—AI. Students will take at least eight AI lessons each year, Beijing Daily said.
At Beijing No. 8 High School, 7th graders have classes such as introduction to AI and AI’s social responsibility. Eighth graders listen to lectures (讲座), visit AI companies and take courses like AI+ math to see how AI connects with other subjects. Ninth graders explore topics such as job choices in the AI era (时代) to help them plan for the future. In one AI class, 8th grader Yan Xia created an English learning game. On the screen, players catch goldfish and must spell words correctly. “I used AI to design the fish, the boat, all the words and even the game code (代码),” Yan explained. “If I had done it by myself, coding and making the pictures would have taken a long time. Thanks to AI, I had more time and energy to improve the game.”
As AI classes become more popular, some people worry that depending too much on AI might make students lazy. But student Shi Qixin found that creating better prompts (指令) helped her think and share her ideas more clearly. “The class changed how I study and made me a better problem solver.”
1.How many schools in Beijing started AI classes this term?
2.Where can eighth graders go to experience AI in person?
3.What do some people worry about when AI classes become popular?
4.Should AI classes be taught at school? Share your ideas. Write 30 words or more.
