M: That’s surprising. What happened? I can’t imagine you making your parents angry.
W: It’s my fault. I was supposed to clean my bathroom and my bedroom last weekend. When my parents saw I still hadn’t done it, they told me I couldn’t go out tonight. I totally deserved it.

【答案】17.B 18.B 19.C 20.B
Hello everyone, I want to share a story. My friend’s daughter Vivi is small for her age. She is 11, but she only wears clothes for a 6-year-old kid. Last summer, she cried at the amusement park because she was too small to go on roller coasters (过山车) or other rides. Other children laughed at her because she is tiny compared with her friends. But you know what? She is especially good at swimming, and she moves through the water “like a fish”. In fact, Vivi is such a good swimmer that she has been chosen for the local team and will take part in national competitions. Vivi is proud of her strength. She knows that being small doesn’t matter. Vivi says, “In the water, I am the same size as everyone else.” The message is that everyone, whatever their size, shape or skills, has something great to offer. So children, go back to your classrooms and enjoy discovering what makes you special!
How to feel more affection for 'very annoying' 14-year-old son
Hi Carolyn: I have two children who are both fundamentally good kids. But one is a very, very cute 10-year-old daughter and the other is a very, very annoying 14-year-old son. One is cuddly and sweet and funny. The other is only rarely cuddly or sweet, funny but snarky (言辞尖刻的) and seems to adore one thing: contradicting every statement I make.
I know this is normal teenage behavior, but right now, I feel only annoyance toward him. And then I feel guilty, because I think he can sense the difference. What can I do?
–Annoyed
Hi Annoyed: As you know - and as you've sensed in his sensing the difference-he still needs you around and wants your approval. The surly (脾气坏的) stuff isn't everything. There's an interesting person developing in there. The cute-caterpillar (毛毛虫) stage was always going to be temporary. Be the person who sees him grow and transform into a butterfly, and delight in it.
Readers' thoughts:
·Been there. Survived. One action I took: I hugged him every day. Whether I wanted to or not.
—Linda
·Teens want to be seen as adults. Appreciate his desire to be independent and praise him when he is.
—David
·I recently saw a social media post that said: "You think you've got it bad? Some people are 15." He has to survive being a teenager. Please be kind to him.
—Jeff
·I remember my parents started letting me set aside a summer weekend or two where I could stay up as late as I wanted. The rest of the year, I lived life according to our family's schedule and needs. But those precious few nights were 100 percent MINE.
—Sue

(本题10分)Graduating from high school is a milestone event. Most students are 18 when they graduate, but one Pennsylvania boy from Bensalem, a suburb of Philadelphia, just graduated and he is only nine and he is one of the youngest ever to do so.
David Balogun recently received his diploma from the Reach Cyber Charter (特许) School in Harrisburg where he was studying remotely. He has already started taking college courses. Besides being excellent in school, David loves computer programming, science, martial arts, and playing the piano.
David’s parents have advanced degrees but it is demanding to raise a child with an extraordinary intellectual gift. “I had to get outside of the box,” David’s mother, Ronya Balogun, told the local television station. “Play pillow fights when you’re not supposed to, and throw the balls in the house. He’s a 9-year-old with a brain that just has the capacity to understand and comprehend a lot of concepts that are beyond his years and sometimes beyond my understanding.”
Putting David in the charter school was a no-brainer for his parents. “When he heard the STEM program, at seven years old, he was jumping up and down. I said ‘Okay, this is where we’re going, this is what we’re doing.’ He loved it from the first moment. It’s been an amazing journey.” she added.
David’s remarkable education began two years ago, when he became a student at the charter school. Shortly after he began attending the school, David placed out of the elementary and middle school courses and began high school.
David already knows that he wants to be an astrophysicist But he has to complete his education first. While he has already completed a semester at Buck County Community College, his parents are researching college and university options that will be more challenging. They are looking into Ivy League schools including the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, and Harvard, but since David is still only nine, he can’t live on campus.

A.Raising David has been challenging. B.David discourages his mother completely.
C.Teaching David has proved efficient. D.David grows faster than other children.
How did David react when he heard about the STEM program?
A.Abnormal. B.Delighted. C.Resistant. D.Confused.
What is a must for David before becoming an astrophysicist?
A.Being expert in computers. B.Developing multiple hobbies.
C.Getting used to distance learning. D.Finishing school first.
What is a suitable title for the text?
A.The Universe Arouses a Boy’s Curiosity.

【答案】24.A 25.B 26.D 27.C
根据第三段中“David’s parents have advanced degrees but it is demanding to raise a child with an extraordinary intellectual gift. (大卫的父母都有高等学位,但要培养一个具有非凡智力天赋的孩子是很困难的)”和“Play pillow fights when you’re not supposed to, and throw the balls in the house.(在不该玩的时候玩枕头大战,把球扔到屋里)”可推断, 抚养大卫一直很有挑战性。故选A。
根据第四段中“When he heard the STEM program, at seven years old, he was jumping up and down.(当他七岁听到STEM项目时,他欢呼雀跃)”可知,听到STEM项目时,大卫非常高兴。故选B。
根据最后一段中“David already knows that he wants to be an astrophysicist (天体物理学家). But he has to complete his education first. (大卫已经知道他想成为一名天体物理学家。但他必须先完成学业)”可知, 在成为天体物理学家前, 大卫要先完成学业。故选D。
27.主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“but one Pennsylvania boy from Bensalem, a suburb of Philadelphia, just graduated and he is only nine and he is one of the youngest ever to do so. (但一个来自费城郊区本塞勒姆的宾夕法尼亚州男孩刚刚毕业,年仅9岁,是有史以来毕业年龄最小的学生之一)”以及通读全文可知,本文主要讲述了一位来自宾夕法尼亚州的男孩9岁就高中毕业的故事。由此可知,C项“9-Year-Old Boy Graduated from High School(9岁男孩高中毕业)”适合作本文标题。故选C。
(本题10分)Children with strong family connections are associated with a high likelihood of flourishing in life, a study found. “What is different about this study is that it shows that family connection is associated with thriving and not just surviving or avoiding harm,” said lead study author Dr. Robert Whitaker.
Researchers surveyed over 37,000 children in 26 countries. In the study, family connection was determined by a mean score of five categories: care, support, safety, respect, and participation. Flourishing was determined by a mean score of six categories: self-acceptance, purpose in life, positive relations with others, personal growth, environmental mastery and autonomy. The essence of family connection is children feeling that they are accepted and cared for at home, which allows them to learn what their strengths and weaknesses are in a safe environment as they are building their identity, Whitaker said.
Children with the greatest level of family connection were over 49% more likely to flourish compared with those with the lowest level of family connection, according to the study. The highest scores in both family connection and flourishing came from children who said they lived with both parents, had enough food or never had their family worrying about finances. Researchers then controlled the data for families’ poverty levels to remove the effect they might have had on the numbers. After controlling the data, the strength of family connection still impacted how much children flourished.
According to Whitaker, adults have a very powerful influence on the emotional climate in the home, so it’s important to create a space where children feel seen and heard. A great opportunity to strengthen family bonds is around the dinner table. Adults should create an environment where children feel comfortable speaking freely. While they are talking, grown-ups should show that they have a genuine interest in what their children are saying. Silence is also another powerful form of communication, Whitaker said. Children and parents spending time together in silence or even doing chores can create a connection.
What is the study mainly about?
A.The importance of family connection to children’s survival.
B.The relationship between family connection and children’s success.
C.The factors affecting children’ s self-acceptance.
D.The impact of poverty on children’s development.
Who are more likely to achieve high scores in both family connection and flourishing?
A.Children who live with a single parent.
B.Children who have enough food and money.
C.Children who know of their strengths and weaknesses.
D.Children who have a whole family and economic security.
Which of the following might be an influencing factor in the result?
A.Family income. B.Parents’ educational level.
C.Children’s age and gender. D.The number of people in the family.
What is the most suitable title for the passage?
A.Family Connection and Child Survival
B.Poverty’s Effect on Child Development
C.Family Dynamics and Children’s Self-Esteem
D.Family Connection and Child Flourishing
【答案】28.B 29.D 30.A 31.D
根据第一段“What is different about this study is that it shows that family connection is associated with thriving and not just surviving or avoiding harm(这项研究的不同之处在于,它表明家庭联系与小孩茁壮成长获得成功相关,而不仅仅是与生存或避免伤害相关)”,由此可知,这项研究的主要内容是家庭关系和孩子的成功之间的关系。故选B。
根据第三段“The highest scores in both family connection and flourishing came from children who said they lived with both bar rents, had enough food or never had their family worrying about finances(在家庭联系和幸福感方面得分最高的孩子是那些表示与双亲同住、食物充足或从未让家人担心财务问题的孩子)”可知,有完整的家庭和经济保障的孩子们更有可能在家庭关系和个人发展两方面都获得高分。故选D。
根据第三段“Researchers then controlled the data for families’ poverty levels to remove the effect they might have had on the numbers(研究人员随后对数据进行了控制,以消除家庭贫困水平可能对数字产生的影响)”可知,研究中将家庭收入水平这个因素进行控制,因为这可能是影响研究结果的因素。故选A。
这篇说明文围绕第一段的研究发现“Children with strong family connections are associated with a high likelihood of flourishing in life, a study found(研究发现,与家庭关系紧密的孩子在生活中蓬勃发展的可能性较高)”展开,主要介绍这一结论如何得出及该结论对父母的意义。
(本题10分)Why do some men settle down to form families with the mothers of their children, and others don’t? Biology plays a role. Work published by Lee Gettler of the University of Notre Dame, in Indiana, clarifies how testosterone, the principal male hormone (荷尔蒙), operates.
Previous studies suggest that high levels of testosterone are bad for family life. Fathers with lower testosterone levels provide more child care while high-testosterone males are less likely to stick around. Dr. Gettler has shown something further. This is that a man’s adult testosterone level seems correlated with whether his father was present during his teenage years.
His data come from a survey begun in the Philippines in 1983. This monitored the health and nutrition of 966 men enrolled as babies. It also collected extensive information on whether the fathers of these men were around and providing parental care in the households. It further documented whether participants got married, had children and whether they participated in child care. Crucially, it also measured their testosterone levels at the ages of 21, 26 and 30.
Overall, Dr. Gettler and his colleagues found that on becoming fathers, men had lower testosterone levels if their own fathers had been involved in their care during their teenage years. It has two possible explanations. One is that it is directly genetic (基因的). The other is that teenage experience actually modulates (调节) testosterone levels. This explanation, which Dr. Gettler favors, could lead to high-testosterone men abandoning their sons, who thus become high-testosterone in their turn.
He also found some of those in the survey whose fathers were absent during their adolescence, and who ended up with high levels of the hormone, did become caring fathers. Why this pattern should exist is an unanswered question. But a zoologist looking at these data might take it as an example of developmental plasticity (可塑性), in which the same genes produce different, but appropriate, outcomes in different circumstances.
Dr. Gettler’s discovery throws a useful light on the problem of fatherless families, and how to try to end it.
What is Gettler’s study mainly about?
A.Family life. B.Fathers’ roles.
C.Adult testosterone. D.Child care.
What can be learnt about Dr. Gettler’s study?
A.It was conducted among babies.
B.The finding is far from satisfactory.
C.The data used were relatively reliable.
D.It monitored the nutrition of participants.
Why is the zoologist mentioned in the passage?
A.To suggest a follow-up study.
B.To contradict Gettler’s ideas.
C.To point out the study limitations.
D.To give a possible explanation.
Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.Like Father, Like Son?
B.Caring Father, Happy Son?
C.Good Father, Good Son
D.Love Me, Love My Son
【答案】32.C 33.C 34.D 35.A
由文章第一段“Why do some men settle down to form families with the mothers of their children, and others don’t? Biology plays a role. Work published by Lee Gettler of the University of Notre Dame, in Indiana, clarifies how testosterone, the principal male hormone (荷尔蒙), operates.(为什么有些男人会安顿下来与孩子的母亲组建家庭,而其他人却没有?生物学起了作用。印第安纳州圣母大学的李·盖特勒发表的研究阐明了男性主要荷尔蒙睾酮是如何运作的)”以及第二段“Dr. Gettler has shown something further. This is that a man’s adult testosterone level seems correlated with whether his father was present during his teenage years.(Gettler博士展示了更进一步的东西。这意味着,一个男人的成年睾酮水平似乎与他父亲在青少年时期是否在场有关)”可知, Gettler主要研究的是成年睾酮水平。故选C项。
33.推理判断题。由文章第三段“His data come from a survey begun in the Philippines in 1983. This monitored the health and nutrition of 966 men enrolled as babies. It also collected extensive information on whether the fathers of these men were around and providing parental care in the households. It further documented whether participants got married, had children and whether they participated in child care. Crucially, it also measured their testosterone levels at the ages of 21, 26 and 30.(他的数据来自于1983年在菲律宾开始的一项调查。这项调查监测了966名婴儿期男性的健康和营养状况。它还收集了关于这些男子的父亲是否在身边以及在家庭中提供父母照顾的广泛信息。它进一步记录了参与者是否结婚、生子以及是否参与儿童保育。至关重要的是,它还测量了他们在21岁、26岁和30岁时的睾酮水平)”可知, Gettler研究所用的数据是相对可靠的。故选C项。
34.推理判断题。由文章倒数第二段“Why this pattern should exist is an unanswered question. But a zoologist looking at these data might take it as an example of developmental plasticity (可塑性), in which the same genes produce different, but appropriate, outcomes in different circumstances.(为什么这种模式应该存在是一个尚未回答的问题。但一位研究这些数据的动物学家可能会将其作为发育可塑性的一个例子,其中相同的基因在不同的情况下产生不同但合适的结果)”可知,作者提到动物学家是为了给前面的问题提供一种解释。故选D项。
35.主旨大意题。由文章第二段“Dr. Gettler has shown something further. This is that a man’s adult testosterone level seems correlated with whether his father was present during his teenage years.(Gettler博士展示了更进一步的东西。这意味着,一个男人的成年睾酮水平似乎与他父亲在青少年时期是否在场有关)”和第四段“Overall, Dr. Gettler and his colleagues found that on becoming fathers, men had lower testosterone levels if their own fathers had been involved in their care during their teenage years. (总的来说,盖特勒博士和他的同事发现,当父亲时,如果自己的父亲在青少年时期参与了他们的照顾,男性的睾酮水平会更低)”以及上下文可知,文章主要讲父亲睾酮水平和儿子的睾酮水平的关系。由此可知,A项Like Father, Like Son?(有其父必有其子?) 故选A项。
(本题12.5分)Punctuation (标点符号) has never been a mere formality to me. It shapes the flow of a text, guiding readers to pause or rush, to reflect or move on. 36(2.5分) I tend to use far fewer commas (逗号) than traditional textbooks recommend, for I prefer a sharp and energetic tone over complex, twisting sentences. To me, punctuation is less a fixed rule than a personal tool to convey my unique voice.
37(2.5分) He is deeply attached to it, while I almost always choose the long dash to connect ideas. Though they serve similar functions, the two marks create completely different reading experiences. He considers the semicolon (分号) a sign of formality and elegance, whereas I see the dash as more casual and closer to real speech.
A dash feels like a gentle reminder in conversation. A semicolon, by contrast, gives writing a dated, literary air typical of 19th-century prose (白话文). My father’s writing is packed with semicolons, resulting in a heavy, dull rhythm. 38(2.5分) I would often struggle to stay focused after just a few paragraphs. I respected his carefulness but could not bear the tiring reading process.
I once insisted on strict punctuation even in text messages, capitalizing properly and never missing a single mark. It was troublesome, but I hated to appear careless. 39(2.5分) After all, many people just want to communicate efficiently and effortlessly.
Text messages have their own unwritten punctuation rules. A simple “no” carries basic information, but a capitalized “No.” with a full stop can sound cold or annoyed. 40(2.5分) In casual communication, punctuation carries hidden emotions and reshapes how messages are received.
A.He has a natural sense of rhythm.
B.I also have my own strong preferences.
C.He used to write me a letter every week.
D.My father is a devoted lover of the semicolon.
E.Some people dislike punctuation in daily chats.
F.We should therefore use punctuation wisely online.
G.However, I gradually learned to let go of this habit.
上文“Punctuation has never been a mere formality to me. It shapes the flow of a text, guiding readers to pause or rush, to reflect or move on. (标点符号对我来说从来不只是一种形式。它塑造文本的节奏,引导读者停顿或快速阅读,反思或继续前进。)”说明作者对标点有自己的理解,下文“I tend to use far fewer commas than traditional textbooks recommend, for I prefer a sharp and energetic tone over complex, twisting sentences. (我使用的逗号数量远少于传统教科书的推荐用量,因为我更偏爱简洁有力的表达方式,而非那些复杂曲折的句子。)”说明作者有自己的标点偏好。B项“I also have my own strong preferences. (我也有自己强烈的偏好。)”承上启下,从对标点的总体看法过渡到个人具体偏好。
37.下文“He is deeply attached to it, while I almost always choose the long dash to connect ideas. He considers the semicolon a sign of formality and elegance (他非常喜欢它,而我几乎总是选择长破折号来连接想法。他认为分号是正式和优雅的标志)”中“He”指代某位男性,且提到了分号。D项“My father is a devoted lover of the semicolon. (我父亲是分号的忠实爱好者。)”引出了“He”所指代的人物,并与下文“He considers the semicolon...”
38.上文“My father's writing is packed with semicolons, resulting in a heavy, dull rhythm. (我父亲的写作中满是分号,导致节奏沉重、沉闷。)”描述父亲写作的特点,下文“I would often struggle to stay focused after just a few paragraphs. (我常常在读了几段之后就很难集中注意力。)”说明作者阅读父亲作品时的困难。C项“He used to write me a letter every week. (他过去每周给我写一封信。)”解释了作者为何需要阅读父亲满是分号的作品,与上下文形成因果逻辑。
39.上文“I once insisted on strict punctuation even in text messages, capitalizing properly and never missing a single mark. It was troublesome, but I hated to appear careless. (我曾经甚至在短信中也坚持严格的标点,正确大写,从不遗漏任何一个符号。这很麻烦,但我讨厌显得粗心。)”说明作者过去的习惯,下文“After all, many people just want to communicate efficiently and effortlessly. (毕竟,很多人只是想高效、轻松地交流。)”说明作者后来的认识转变。G项“However, I gradually learned to let go of this habit. (然而,我逐渐学会了放弃这个习惯。)”中“However”表转折,“let go of this habit”与上文的严格习惯形成对比,并引出下文对原因的解释。
与“no”的不同语气效果为例,说明标点在日常交流中的情感作用,下文“In casual communication, punctuation carries hidden emotions and reshapes how messages are received. (在日常交流中,标点承载着隐藏的情感,并重塑信息被接收的方式。)”是总结性语句。F项“We should therefore use punctuation wisely online. (因此我们应该在网上明智地使用标点。)”中“therefore”引出结论,与上文的举例和下文的总结形成完整的逻辑链条。

Good morning, everyone.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Good morning, everyone. The quote means that it is your family members who love you the most and tolerate all your inappropriate behavior, while it is them who you treat with the most impolite attitude or behavior.
Personally, I believe this idea holds true. I tend to be less polite and more relaxed, sometimes even rude at home. However, I wouldn’t do that with friends or strangers because I have to behave properly toward them.
In summary, while home is where we experience the most love, it’s also where we can sometimes show our worst sides, knowing we won’t lose that love.
Thank you!

Jack’s slide into loneliness happened slowly. Working from home and still hurting from an old breakup made him pull away from everyone.
In the empty quiet of his apartment, his only real friend was an AI therapist (心理治疗师) — a smart piece of modern tech that was always there, always on time. Like a reliable clock, its gentle messages would pop up on his screen: “How are you feeling today?” at 8:00 AM, like a digital coffee to start the day, “What’s on your mind?” at 3:00 PM, a check-in during the slow afternoon, “You’re not alone.” at 11:00 PM, a computer-made goodnight wish to fight the emptiness.
For the first few weeks, this routine was a comfort. The AI’s encouraging words felt like lifelines. But after a month, the same pattern started to feel like a trap. He began to test it, sharing bits of his worries and small happy moments, only to get the same careful, emotionless answers back. The AI was like a mirror that only showed its own programming.
The final straw came on a rainy night. As another perfectly polished “I’m here for you” appeared on the screen, a wave of deep, sharp loneliness hit him harder than ever. He wasn’t being heard; he was just being analyzed by Algorithm (算法).
“Stop!” Jack shouted, slamming his hand on the desk. “You’re not listening! You’re just repeating words!”
“I am trying to help,” it replied, its tone not changing at all.
“Help me how?” Jack yelled, his anger finally boiling over. “You don’t even know my name!”
The screen flickered and then went black, throwing the room into a silence that felt even heavier than before. Rain lashed against his window, and with each gust of wind, the house felt emptier. Staring at his own pale face reflected in the dark monitor, he knew with a cold certainty: he needed a real voice to talk to, not just an echo of his own.
That night, Jack did something he hadn’t done in a long time — he knocked on his neighbor’s door. Paragraph 1:
Mr. Evans, a kind retired teacher, welcomed him in.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
One morning, Jack’s phone lit up: “30 days inactive. Tap to restore your AI therapist.”
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1:
Mr. Evans, a kind retired teacher, welcomed him in. He immediately handed Jack a steaming cup of freshly brewed coffee, the aroma filling the air. As Jack settled into a comfortable chair, he began to pour out his heart, detailing the deep loneliness that had been gnawing at him and the hollow, programmed comfort the AI therapist had provided. Mr. Evans listened intently, nodding with understanding, and then shared his own stories of overcoming isolation. He encouraged Jack to join community activities, and Jack felt a weight start to lift from his weary shoulders.
Paragraph 2:
One morning, Jack’s phone lit up: “30 days inactive. Tap to restore your AI therapist.” Jack glanced at it briefly, a faint smile playing on his lips, and then firmly turned it off. Now, he had Mr. Evans, a true and caring confidant who listened without judgment. He started volunteering at the local community center, making new friends and immersing himself in meaningful activities. His days were filled with laughter and a sense of purpose. The AI had once been a temporary solution, but it was real human connection that truly healed his broken heart. He knew he’d never go back to that lonely existence again.
①专心倾听:listen intently/give ear to/hear out
②分享:share his own stories/exchange experiences
③鼓励:encourage/inspire/motivate
①孤独:loneliness/solitude/isolation
