(本题7.5分)Popular sports like ball games and chess always get lots of attention. However, there are some special sports that not many people know about. They are just as exciting! These sports can cheer you up and show us what sports are really for: having fun! Let’s learn about four interesting sports.
Quidditch
This sport comes from Harry Potter written by J.K. Rowling, and it has become a real sport played around the world. Each team has seven players. All players must put a broom between their legs during the whole game. It mixes skills from rugby and dodgeball. Since people play it without magic, it is also called “Muggle Quidditch”.
Yubi Lakpi
It is a traditional sport from India. It looks like football, but players use a coconut instead of a ball. Two teams try to carry the coconut to the other team’s goal. To make the game harder, players put oil on their bodies. This makes their bodies slippery, so others cannot catch them easily.
Zorbing
Have you ever thought of rolling down hills inside a big plastic ball? That is zorbing. It first appeared in New Zealand in the 1990s and soon became a popular outdoor activity. People usually play it on gentle slopes or flat ground. It is more for fun than for winning games. It is great to play with your friends.
Toe Wrestling
Believe it or not, this is a real sport and it even has world matches. It is similar to arm wrestling. Two players try to hold down each other’s toes for three seconds. They play with left feet and right feet in turns. The winner is decided after three rounds. Just kick off your shoes and socks, and let’s get started!
What must Quidditch players do throughout the game?
A.Control the team with magic. B.Pass a rugby ball to other folks.
C.Hold a broom between their legs. D.Obey rules from the Harry Potter books.
How do players make it difficult for the opposing team in Yubi Lakpi?
A.By making the ground wet.
B.By putting oil on their bodies.
C.By making the coconut shiny.
D.By standing in front of the opponents.
What do Zorbing and Toe Wrestling have in common?
A.Both take place on gentle slopes. B.Both involve body contact.
C.Both are world championship games. D.Both are mainly for entertainment.
(本题10分)People exercise, like running or lifting weights, to stay healthy. One special exercise is called planking To plank, you get down like you are going to lie on your stomach. You rest your weight on your arms and toes (脚趾) to keep your body straight. This exercise works out your abs (腹肌) and legs!
Many people can hold a plank for a minute. But 58-year-old DonnaJean Wilde held her plank for 4 hours, 30 minutes, and 11 seconds! She set the women’s world record for the longest plank time!
Wilde has always been active. But about 10 years ago, Wilde broke her wrist (手腕). She couldn’t exercise the way she was used to. She started planking. “I realized that I could read when I was planking, and I fell in love with it,” Wilde said.
Wilde first had pain in her hands and arms, but that didn’t stop her. To prepare for the record, she practiced for up to six hours a day. She would even watch movies while planking!
On the big day, Wilde planked at the high school where she used to work. Her family and students came to cheer her on! A worker from Guinness World Records kept an eye on her performance the whole time.
Wilde said the first two hours went by quickly. The next two hours were harder, however. “The last hour was the most challenging,” she said. In the final 30 minutes, Wilde just focused on breathing and stayed calm. When she broke the record, everyone shouted and cheered. Wilde planked about 10 minutes longer than the old record! “I actually can’t believe it. It feels like a dream,” Wilde said.
Wilde had advice for people. “Whatever you like, the better you get at it, the easier it becomes,” she said.
So, keep working on your goals, and one day you may break a world record too!

(本题10分)Nearly everyone in the world has heard of the Olympic Games, and many people are familiar with the Paralympic Games, but very few know about the equally important Transplant Games. Held every year, these games celebrate the courage of transplant recipients (接受者) and the selflessness of donors’ families.
According to a news release from the Sheffield City Council, the games — which the city will host in the summer of 2026 — are the main event for the Transplant Active charity, which aims to raise awareness of organ (器官) donation and inspire recipients to stay healthy and active.
A blog on Westfield Health’s website explains that over 7,000 people in Britain are waiting for organ transplants now. On average, about three people die every day while waiting, but one donor can save more than nine lives.
The lack of donors still exists even though Britain introduced an “opt-out” organ donation law (默认捐献制) in 2020 — everyone is a potential donor unless they say otherwise. However, it is their families that decide whether to donate their loved ones’ organs, and many people never talk with their families about their wishes.
That’s why the Transplant Games are so important. They draw attention to organ donation and show that recipients can live happy, full lives. Anyone healthy who attends at least one team training camp can join.
During the 2025 Games in Oxford, a five-year-old liver (肝) recipient took part in the obstacle race, the 25-meter sprint, and the ball throw. Another participant, who received a kidney at age 13 and is now 36, trains for the Games every year.
Then there is Jenny Glithero, who had an emergency liver transplant. Six months after learning to breathe again, she was back on a bike, training for the Games. She told Positive News, “Why do I do this? Because I’ve been given the gift of life. It is a way to honor my donor. Some people go to church. I get on the bike.”

A.To honor outstanding athletes. B.To attract tourists to Sheffield.
C.To compete with the Olympics. D.To encourage organ donation.
What can we learn about organ donation in Britain?
A.Its law works perfectly. B.Donors’ choices are final.
C.Few patients need transplants. D.Demand is greater than supply.

A.Recipients rebuild life actively. B.Organ failure affects all age groups.
C.Athletes must be young and energetic. D.Sports games require professional skills.

A.The importance of Transplant Games. B.The popularity of international games.

(本题10分)Have you ever wondered what astronauts eat in space and how those recipes (食谱) are developed? Every year, HUNCH challenges high schools around the world to develop delicious recipes to support astronauts in space. The HUNCH Culinary (烹饪的) Competition provides students the opportunity to create dishes for astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS). Students must create tasty recipes following a specific food processing procedure and meeting certain dietary requirements.
Each year, high schools receive a theme (主题), and students develop recipes accordingly. Then, student groups present their works to local space centers for taste tests conducted by industry professionals and center staff. After those early competitions, student teams with the highest scores from across the country are invited to Space Center Houston, which has hosted the event for 11 years. During the finals, all visitors to the center are invited to cheer on student groups.
This year’s dish theme was traditional Mexican food: tacos. Ten high school culinary teams were selected to compete in the final round of the competition, which celebrated the mix of science and culinary creativity. Their work was judged by Food Lab staff, industry professionals, the ISS program office, and astronauts based on quality, taste, research paper, and presentation video.
Space Center Houston President and CEO William T. Harris said students had to consider “the chemistry behind the dish, food preservation, and dietary needs” when making their dishes. He added that the strict limit on salt intake in space makes it difficult to achieve rich taste, so students must find other ways to season their recipes.
Through this program, students build culinary skills while developing experience in research and professional presentations. The winning dish will be processed by the Johnson Space Center Food Lab and sent to the ISS for astronauts to enjoy.

What makes it hard to create tasty food in space?
A.The limited space for cooking. B.The low amount of salt allowed.
C.The difficulty in keeping food fresh. D.The strict food processing procedure.
What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To present challenges in space. B.To promote new food products.

(本题12.5分)I have never been good at badminton. But since moving to Australia with my non-Malaysian husband, I’ve developed an interest in the sport. In Australia, there is little representation of my culture. 36(2.5分) From being asked if I’m good at kung fu to being mistaken for a cleaner, these experiences are hard to shake off.
However, as I watch my fellow Malaysian badminton players on the global stage, a feeling of safety and familiarity washes over me. 37(2.5分) In a heart-racing 2024 Olympics Bronze medal match — against Denmark on August 4th, Malaysia’s men’s doubles pair managed to save themselves from the edge of defeat to win Malaysia’s first medal at the games.
I clearly remember the moment when Malaysia was 16-20 against the Danes — one point away from losing the entire game. 38(2.5分) The two Malaysians did not assume defeat and pressed on. The Danes did not get their winning point. Instead, we kept gaining one point after another.
When the Malaysians scored an equalizer that put them 20-20, I let out a roar. That roar was echoed thousands of miles away as Malaysians everywhere cheered their hearts out. Finally, when Malaysia scored the winning point, I experienced a collective near heart attack. Hope was rushing out of me, and along with it, a feeling I had not felt in ages.
40(2.5分) Perhaps it’s a reminder that it is beautiful that I have more than one identity. It is beautiful that a sport I am bad at can become a symbol of the home I left behind. And it’s beautiful that while the 2024 Olympics brought the world together for a few glorious weeks, it brought me-for a moment in time -back home.
A.But then the impossible happened.
B.Watching the match made me miss living in Malaysia.
C.I still don’t fully understand what that moment did to me.
D.I’ve faced countless moments of discomfort and discrimination.
E.I felt a sense of togetherness with my fellow Malaysians far away.
F.The determination of the players inspired me to fight discrimination bravely.
G.These faces on my screen look like everyday folks I could run into back home.

It was a bright and sunny morning at Greenfield High School, and the annual sports day was in full swing. The atmosphere was electric, with students cheering, banners waving, and the smell of popcorn filling the air. But all eyes were on the final event of the day — the 400-meter race.
Among the participants was Mia, a quiet but determined girl from Class 10B.Mia wasn’t the fastest runner in school, nor was she the most athletic. In fact, she only joined the track team a few months ago after her best friend, Emma, convinced her to give it a try. “You’ve got heart, Mia,” Emma had said. “That’s all you need.”
As Mia stood at the starting line, her heart pounded. She glanced at her competitors — tall, confident, and experienced runners who had won countless medals. Mia tightened her shoelaces and took a deep breath. She reminded herself of the hours she had spent training, the early mornings, and the blisters (水疱) on her feet. She wasn’t here to win; she was here to prove to herself that she could finish the race.
The starting gun fired, and the runners shot off like arrows. Mia started strong but soon found herself lagging behind. By the halfway mark, she was in last place. Mia felt as if a heavy weight had settled on her shoulders. She couldn’t bring herself to look at the crowd. As cheers began to fade, doubt crept into her mind. “Maybe I should just stop, No one will notice.” she thought.

W: The marathon has roots in ancient history. But there is nothing ancient about today’s modern sports and social events. Many Americans enjoy the experience of running marathons. 314 marathons were held in the United States last year. An estimated 382,000 runners completed these marathons. And that number is expected to increase this year.
The biggest marathon in the nation is the New York City marathon. The runners pass famous landmarks in this city. It is also a major sporting event with at least one hundred thousand dollars going to each winner. On November fifth, almost 38,000 people finished the race. Marilson Gomes of Brazil was the men’s champion in just under two hours and ten minutes. Jelena Prokopcuka of Latvia was the women’s champion. The most famous person in the race, however, may have been Lance Armstrong. The seven-time Tour de France champion made big news by running in this year’s race. Armstrong’s excellent physical condition helped him complete the marathon in just under three hours.

B.By putting oil on their bodies.
C.By making the coconut shiny.
D.By standing in front of the opponents.
What do Zorbing and Toe Wrestling have in common?

What is the main purpose of the Transplant Games?
A.To honor outstanding athletes. B.To attract tourists to Sheffield.
C.To compete with the Olympics. D.To encourage organ donation.
What can we learn about organ donation in Britain?
A.Its law works perfectly. B.Donors’ choices are final.
C.Few patients need transplants. D.Demand is greater than supply.
What can be inferred from the examples in paragraphs 6 and 7?
A.Recipients rebuild life actively. B.Organ failure affects all age groups.
C.Athletes must be young and energetic. D.Sports games require professional skills.
What is the main focus of the text?
A.The importance of Transplant Games. B.The popularity of international games.
C.The development of British sports laws. D.The new method to solve organ shortage.

根据上文“I have never been good at badminton. But since moving to Australia with my non-Malaysian husband, I’ve developed an interest in the sport. In Australia, there is little representation of my culture.(我向来不擅长打羽毛球。
38.根据上文“I clearly remember the moment when Malaysia was 16-20 against the Danes — one point away from losing the entire game.(我清楚地记得当时马来西亚队与丹麦队的比分是16比20——距离输掉整场比赛只差一分)”以及后文“The two Malaysians did not assume defeat and pressed on. The Danes did not get their winning point. Instead, we kept gaining one point after another.(那两名马来西亚选手并未认输,而是继续努力。而丹麦队未能获得胜分。然而,我们却不断得分,一点一点地逐渐领先)”可知,前文说比赛比分16-20,马来西亚队差一分就要输,后文说选手没有认输,连续追分,A项“但接着,不可能的事情发生了”正好引出这场逆风翻盘的转折,符合逻辑。
39.根据上文“When the Malaysians scored an equalizer that put them 20-20, I let out a roar. That roar was echoed thousands of miles away as Malaysians everywhere cheered their hearts out. Finally, when Malaysia scored the winning point, I experienced a collective near heart attack. Hope was rushing out of me, and along with it, a feeling I had not felt in ages.(当马来西亚队扳平比分,将比分定格在 20 比 20 时,我发出了一声欢呼。
40.根据后文“Perhaps it’s a reminder that it is beautiful that I have more than one identity. It is beautiful that a sport I am bad at can become a symbol of the home I left behind. And it’s beautiful that while the 2024 Olympics brought the world together for a few glorious weeks, it brought me-for a moment in time -back home.(也许这正提醒着我,拥有多重身份是一件美好的事情。一件我并不擅长的运动能够成为我所离开的家乡的象征,这本身就是一件美好的事情。而且,尽管2024年奥运会让全世界在短短几周内团结在一起,但它也让我(在那一刻)回到了自己的家乡)”可知,后文用“或许这提醒我……”来阐释这场比赛带给作者的感悟,C项“我至今也不能完全说清那个瞬间带给我的改变”引出后文作者的感悟,逻辑通顺。

But then, she heard a familiar voice, “Go, Mia! You can do it!” It was Emma. Mia turned her head slightly and saw her best friend waving a big banner enthusiastically. The encouragement was like a spark that reignited the fire in her heart. She clenched her fists and summoned up all her remaining strength. Ignoring the pain in her legs and the shortness of breath, she quickened her pace. With every step, she felt more determined.
With just 50 meters to go, she could barely breathe. Her legs were heavy, but her mind was clear. She was so close to the finish line. The image of her family and friends waiting for her at the end spurred her on. Summoning every bit of strength left in her body, she dashed forward. As she crossed the finish line, the crowd erupted in cheers. Mia was tired but overjoyed. She had achieved what she set out to do, and that was more precious than any medal.
