(本题10分)When Lida Frydrychova first climbed Mount Temple 27 years ago, she didn’t know there was a “list” of 11,000-foot peaks (顶峰) in Canada. Born in Czechia, she moved to Calgary a decade later. To enjoy the nearby Rockies, she tried rock climbing.
“I love the views from peaks, the adventure of faraway places, and the physical challenge,” she said. She then took up rock and ice climbing, skills needed for higher mountains. Courses with the Alpine Club of Canada improved her skills and helped her find reliable (可靠的) partners. Working full-time, she climbed on weekends and holidays, even traveling to the Alps.
As she neared the end of the 11,000er list, only 10 peaks remained. These were tough, with long hikes and narrow weather windows. With her partner Allen Chee, she finally reached the top of her last one, Hungabee, in August, 2025. “I was happy, but conditions were hard. When the sun came out, the views opened, and I felt relief,” she said.
Among her favorites were Mount Edith Cavell’s East Ridge for its rock quality and amazing views, as well as Tsar, Hungabee, and Clemenceau for their technical challenges and wonderful views. However, some peaks proved far less enjoyable. Mount Robson, The Helmet, and Whitehorn Mountain required many attempts due to bad weather and difficult routes. Her worst experiences were Whitehorn and Lunette, both having very poor rock quality.
Lida is thankful for the support of her boyfriend Rob and her experienced partners, now close friends. Most importantly, she encourages women to take the lead. “I believe it is even more important for women to become independent in the mountains and have the confidence to lead and make decisions,” she said. “Don’t just follow — make your own plan and find partners whose skills go well with yours.” She said she was safe because of careful planning and patience. “Don’t rush trying to get them all done,” she advised. “Instead, enjoy the journey and the people you do it with.”
What mainly drove Lida to climb peaks?
A.Fame and awards. B.Love for adventure.
C.Pressure from work. D.Easy climbing routes.
What can we learn about the last ten peaks Lida climbed?
A.They needed appropriate timing.
B.They had more beautiful views.
C.They were completed in a year.
D.They were easier than expected.
Why were Lida’s bad experiences mentioned in paragraph 4?
A.To stress the skills of climbing.
B.To show goals can be achieved.
C.To record her feelings truthfully.
D.To give a warning to other climbers.
What is Lida’s main suggestion to women climbers?
A.To lead and stay patient.
B.To challenge rocky mountains.
C.To master climbing skills.
D.To follow experienced climbers.
(本题10分)People at your age, like classmates, are peers. When they influence your decisions or actions, it’s called peer pressure — something all of us have faced and must deal with at some point in our life. The need to follow the crowd and do what the majority are doing forces us to take up activities which we wouldn’t otherwise engage in.
Recent studies show peer pressure can bring an upside: it makes you reflect on your actions and improve. Observing others working hard to reach their goals will definitely encourage you to make a great effort to achieve something positive. For example, when a teen knows that his teammates are practicing hard to become better players, it will directly affect his own performance. He will put in twice the time and energy to raise the level of his game and ensure he has a place on the team. Positive peer groups also help you develop healthy habits that shape your personality and future. If friends read regularly or exercise daily, you may adopt these habits too, with peer pressure turning into motivation.
However, just as everything has two sides, peer pressure also has negatives. It can lower self-confidence; some kids give in to fit in, avoid mockery (嘲笑), or satisfy curiosity, abandoning good judgment for “everyone’s doing it.” It may also distance you from loved ones, making teens feel misunderstood and drawn to bad company.
Peer pressure affects many areas of life, from clothes to music. It can be hard to resist, forcing you into discomfort. Thus, recognizing and choosing positive peer influences for healthy, happy experiences is a lifelong task.
What does the underlined word “upside” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Risk B.Advantage C.Difficulty D.Change
Which of the following is a result of positive peer pressure?
A.A student starts reading often because his friends do.
B.A teen smokes to avoid being laughed at by peers.
C.A child skips homework to play with classmates.
D.A teenager keeps secrets from parents to fit in.
Why do some kids give in to negative peer pressure?
A.To learn from others’ good habits B.To keep up with the crowd and avoid being mocked
C.To double their effort in team training D.To develop a lifelong good habit
What is the author’s suggestion towards peer pressure?
A.Ignore all peer influences in daily life B.Give in to peer pressure to fit in with the group
C.Recognize and choose positive peer influences D.Stay away from all peers to avoid pressure
(本题10分)During World War II, the US military faced a question: where should they add armor (盔甲) to their bombers to protect them from enemy fire? One approach was to examine the planes that returned from missions and strengthen the areas that showed the most bullet (子弹) holes. The conclusion seemed obvious: add armor to these locations.
But Abraham Wald, an American mathematician, saw a serious drawback in this logic. He pointed out that the military was only looking at the planes that made it back. The truly important data was missing: the planes that were shot down. The absence of bullet holes on the engines of the returning planes wasn’t because they weren’t being hit there. It was because planes hit in those spots didn’t survive. This is what is called survivorship bias
Abraham Wald’s insight changed how the military approached its analysis. He demanded them to stop focusing on the survivors and instead consider the non-survivors. By hardening the areas that were undamaged on the returning planes (the engines), they were truly protecting the key parts. Wald’s work is believed to have saved hundreds of lives and remains an example for understanding this bias.
In fact, survivorship bias is deeply rooted in daily life. News outlets, books, and social media feeds are filled with tales of success, making them readily available in our minds and leading us to overvalue the popularity of success. As social creatures, we often look to others to determine how to act. When we see a crowd of people celebrating a “survivor” — be it a successful CEO or a winning investment strategy — we feel a traction to follow along.
To avoid this bias, we should learn to look for the “silent data” of failures. This data is often where the most valuable lessons are buried. Meanwhile, we must check how data is selected and whether it presents a complete picture. Only by seeing both winners and losers can we understand reality clearly and make wise decisions.
How does the author introduce the topic?
A.By telling a story. B.By examining logic.
C.By recording history. D.By quoting an expert.
What condition may survivorship bias lead to?
A.The updates are hidden. B.The database is masked.
C.The judgement is clouded. D.The successes are ignored.
What does the underlined word “traction” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Pull. B.Change. C.Surprise. D.Goal.
What is suggested to avoid survivorship bias?
A.Trusting survivors. B.Celebrating the failures.
C.Accepting the reality. D.Analyzing complete data.

Ryan never questioned his own abilities. He was known as the “idea machine” in the school because he could solve any problem with a clever solution. Teachers and classmates praised his creativity. To Ryan, success was natural, and teamwork seemed unnecessary.
The school would hold an innovation (创新) contest. The theme was “Technology for a Better Tomorrow”. His team cheered when they heard they had been chosen to represent (代表) the school. But Ryan was different. He told himself, “This is my stage.”
From the very beginning, Ryan took full control. He made plans, chose the technology, and even designed the presentation slides (幻灯片). His teammates became his assistants (助手)-Daniel bringing materials, Emma typing notes, and they following Ryan’s instructions. Whenever one of them, especially Emma, suggested a new idea, Ryan turned it down. “I know what works,” he would say. In his mind, they only slowed him down.
After weeks of work, a smart recycling robot was built exactly as Ryan had planned. He was proud of its design and certain it would impress the judges.
On the day of the contest, the team carried their project onto the stage. Other schools showed apps and energy-saving machines, each team member speaking with confidence and sharing roles equally. Ryan’s team, however, just stood behind him as he introduced the robot.
At first, the speech went very well. The robot moved across the platform, picking up a plastic bottle and dropping it into the right box. Ryan smiled proudly. But then the judges began to ask questions. “How does the robot know different kinds of bottles?” one asked. Another judge asked about future improvements. Ryan couldn’t give an answer. He turned to his teammates for help, but they stood silently, unprepared.
The judges exchanged their opinions. When the results were told, Ryan’s team was not among the winners. Ryan couldn’t accept the failure.
After the contest, Ryan sat alone on the steps of the stage, his shoulders heavy and his head down. He couldn’t stop thinking about the contest.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

These actions, though small, are more effective than goals like eating healthy food or getting fit, which can be hard to achieve without specific steps.
Another tip is to track your progress with a Scorecard. This could mean recording how far you run or how much time you spend studying a language. Besides, he advises keeping your goals to yourself. Announcing them implies a sense of completion. It might mean that you’re less likely to follow through. However, Victor, a New York University professor, opposed that. He thought you should tell your friends or family members. He added that having social support helps people achieve difficult goals. You could ask friends to remind you when you achieve a goal, you should throw a party to celebrate it with them.

【答案】24.B 25.A 26.C 27.A
根据第二段中莉达说的话“I love the views from peaks, the adventure of faraway places, and the physical challenge (我热爱山顶的风景、远方之地的冒险,还有身体层面的挑战)”可知,对冒险的热爱是驱使莉达登山的主要原因。
根据第三段的“These were tough, with long hikes and narrow weather windows. (这些山峰难度很大,需要长距离徒步,且合适的登山天气窗口很短。)”可知,攀登这十座山峰需要合适的时机。
26.推理判断题。根据第四段的“Among her favorites were Mount Edith Cavell’s East Ridge for its rock quality and amazing views, as well as Tsar, Hungabee, and Clemenceau for their technical challenges and wonderful views. However, some peaks proved far less enjoyable. Mount Robson, The Helmet, and Whitehorn Mountain required many attempts due to bad weather and difficult routes. Her worst experiences were Whitehorn and Lunette, both having very poor rock quality.
根据最后一段的“Most importantly, she encourages women to take the lead. “Instead, enjoy the journey and the people you do it with.”(最重要的是,她鼓励女性主动牵头带队。“我认为女性更需要在山野中做到独立,有信心主导行程、做出判断,”她说,“不要一味跟从别人——制定属于自己的计划,寻找技术与你互补的搭档。”她表示,细致规划与足够耐心保障了她每一次登山的安全。她建议道:“不要急于一口气爬完所有山峰。不如好好享受攀登的过程,珍惜同行的伙伴。”)”可知,莉达对女性登山者的主要建议是主动领头且保持耐心。
【答案】28.B 29.A 30.B 31.C
根据第二段中划线词后文“it makes you reflect on your actions and improve. Observing others working hard to reach their goals will definitely encourage you to make a great effort to achieve something positive. (它会让你反思自己的行为并加以改进。看到别人为了实现目标而努力奋斗,肯定会激励你付出巨大的努力去达成一些积极的事情)”以及“Positive peer groups also help you develop healthy habits that shape your personality and future. (积极的同伴群体也有助于你养成健康的习惯,塑造你的个性和未来)”可知,同伴压力能带来积极的结果,因此,划线词“upside”应为“优点,好处”之意,与“Advantage”意思相近。故选B项。
29.细节理解题。根据第二段中“If friends read regularly or exercise daily, you may adopt these habits too, with peer pressure turning into motivation. (如果朋友们经常阅读或每天锻炼,你也会养成这些习惯,同伴压力变成了动力)”可知,一个学生因为朋友经常阅读而开始经常阅读是积极同伴压力的结果。故选A项。
根据第三段中“It can lower self-confidence; some kids give in to fit in, avoid mockery (嘲笑), or satisfy curiosity, abandoning good judgment for “everyone’s doing it.” (它会降低自信心;有些孩子为了融入群体、避免嘲笑或满足好奇心而屈服,为了“大家都在做”而放弃良好的判断力)”可知,有些孩子屈服于消极的同伴压力是为了融入群体,避免被嘲笑。故选B项。
31.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Thus, recognizing and choosing positive peer influences for healthy, happy experiences is a lifelong task. (因此,为了健康、快乐的体验,识别和选择积极的同伴影响是一项终身任务)”可知,作者对于同伴压力的建议是识别并选择积极的同伴影响。故选C项。
【答案】32.A 33.C 34.A 35.D
根据第一段“During World War II, the US military faced a question: where should they add armor (盔甲) to their bombers to protect them from enemy fire? (二战期间,美军面临一个问题:他们应该在轰炸机的哪些部位加装装甲以保护自己免受敌人火力攻击?)”可知,作者通过讲述二战期间美军为轰炸机加装装甲的故事来引入话题。
33.推理判断题。根据第四段“News outlets, books, and social media feeds are filled with tales of success, making them readily available in our minds and leading us to overvalue the popularity of success. (新闻媒体、书籍和社交媒体充斥着成功故事,让我们轻易就能想到这些成功故事,并导致我们高估成功的普遍性)”可知,幸存者偏差会导致我们的判断被蒙蔽。
34.词句猜测题。根据第四段“As social creatures, we often look to others to determine how to act. When we see a crowd of people celebrating a “survivor” — be it a successful CEO or a winning investment strategy — we feel a traction to follow along. (作为社会性生物,我们常常参照他人来决定自己的行为。当我们看到一群人庆祝一位“幸存者”——无论是一位成功的CEO还是一个获胜的投资策略——时,我们会感到一种跟随的traction)”可知,当我们看到大家都这样做的时候,我们也会不自觉的想去这样做,即感觉到一种想跟随的牵引力,traction意为“牵引力、拉力”,与“Pull”意思相同。
35.细节理解题。根据最后一段“To avoid this bias, we should learn to look for the “silent data” of failures. This data is often where the most valuable lessons are buried. Meanwhile, we must check how data is selected and whether it presents a complete picture. (为避免这种偏见,我们应该学会寻找失败的“沉默数据”。这些数据往往埋藏着最有价值的教训。同时,我们必须检查数据是如何被选择的,以及它是否呈现了完整的画面)”可知,避免幸存者偏差需要分析完整的数据。

I’m writing this email to offer you my sincerest apology. I feel so awful about what happened in class today. I accidentally dropped your pen while I was clumsily reaching for my notebook, and it broke. It was all my fault and I’m truly regretful.
To make up for it, I’ve searched for the exact same pen on several reliable shopping platforms and placed an order. It’ll be delivered to you as soon as possible. I sincerely hope you can accept my apology and this way of making amends. I’ll be extra careful from now on to avoid such silly mistakes again.
Hoping for your forgiveness.

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
Just then, Emma walked over to Ryan.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After the conversation, Ryan decided to change.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Just then, Emma walked over to Ryan. Ryan, who didn’t want anyone to see his tears, wiped them quickly and turned his face away to avoid Emma’s eyes. But Emma didn’t leave. Instead, her voice was soft, “Ryan, you don’t have to carry everything by yourself. We could have answered those questions together if we had prepared as a real team,” she said. Her words cut through the silence like a light in the dark. Ryan realized how serious a mistake he had made.
After the conversation, Ryan decided to change. At the next practice, Ryan asked everyone to share their ideas and listened closely, even when they disagreed. The room was full of energy: Emma worked on the blueprint, Daniel improved the design, and Ryan tested the machine. Months later, when they returned with a new project, each teammate spoke with confidence. Although the prize was important, what mattered more was their teamwork. Ryan realized that true innovation did not belong to one person, but to many hearts working together.
