(本题10分)Posting photos of local plants may not seem like a normal way to success as a social media influencer. But Kyle Lybarger, born and raised in Alabama, has found unexpected Internet fame by introducing his followers to the overlooked world of southeastern plants.
In an interview, Lybarger credits his success to stubbornness, to a positive energy he inherited from his late dad and, largely, to not worrying about what others think. “I was a deer hunter, forester, a man posting about flowers,” he says. “You have to really care the least about what people think of you to do that.”
About a decade ago, Lybarger cleared a small area of land in a forest to grow plants whose fruits would attract deer and wild turkeys. He even applied some herbicide (除草剂) and cut down the surrounding trees to let in more light. The next summer, he found the additional sunlight brought a beautiful surprise: an amazing variety of wild flowers. After he posted the flowers on Facebook, a local botanist and science teacher got in touch, confirming some rare and vulnerable species, such as Alabama larkspur. Lybarger suddenly realized that the grassland he had killed was ideal for attracting wildlife itself.
This experience inspired him to dive into a body of research indicating that historically the Southeast was home to expansive grasslands as well as those wild flowers. It was then that Lybarger found his mission: to save the remaining grasslands and flora. Together with a botanist from Auburn University, he appealed on all the major social media platforms to forest owners and farmers to stop mowing (修剪草坪) and using herbicides. In 2023 he partnered with an artist to design a T-shirt featuring the rare plants, hoping to raise public awareness and help pay for conservation. The project ended up raising over $100,000 in less than a year, most of which went to his conservation efforts.
“My biggest contribution comes through education on social media, influencing people to grow the native plants that best support declining pollinators (授粉昆虫) and other insects,” he says, “One person, one yard, one-tenth of an acre can make a bigger difference than you think.”
24.(2.5分)According to Lybarger, he mainly owes his success to ________.
A.his enthusiasm about native plants B.the development of internet industry
C.the spiritual support from his late dad D.his freedom from others’ judgement
25.(2.5分)What led Lybarger to discover the value of the wild flowers?
A.His being brought up in Alabama. B.His being a sociable forester.
C.His working experience as a hunter. D.The feedback from a local botanist.
26.(2.5分)Why does the writer mention the money in paragraph 4?
A.To indicate the difficulty of their project. B.To show the artistic value of their design.
C.To prove the success of the project. D.To explain the ambition of his team.
27.(2.5分)What message does Lybarger want to convey in the last paragraph?
A.Virtue is its own reward. B.Many drops make a shower.
C.Roses given, fragrance in hand. D.Wisdom begins with admitting your ignorance.
(本题10分)Oysters (牡蛎) are called “ecosystem engineers”. They build reefs (礁) using living oysters and shells left by past generations. As important parts of ocean environments, oyster reefs offer shelters for hundreds of sea creatures and keep the natural balance of sea waters. Unfortunately, fishing activities and coastal development have caused severe damage, and around 85 percent of oyster reefs across Australia have disappeared so far.
To save the fading reefs, researchers have been working hard to create man-made habitats for oysters. They first studied natural oyster reefs carefully and made an important discovery: natural reefs are not just random piles of shells, but well-organized three-dimensional (三维的) structures.
The shape of a reef plays a key role in the survival of sea life and the growth speed of the reef itself. To figure out whether this rule can work in man-made reefs, the researchers used 3D imaging technology to examine surviving Sydney rock oyster reefs. Based on the collected data, they built computer models and designed 16 types of concrete units with different heights and shapes. These units were placed in three bays near natural reefs. For a long time, the team kept tracking young oysters to record their settlement, growth and survival conditions.
The final results showed that the most effective designs were neither the tallest nor the most difficult ones. The best structures copied features of natural reefs, offering plenty of small hidden spaces. These spaces could protect baby oysters from natural enemies and bad environmental influences. Although total surface area matters, young oysters are tiny and easily affected by outside threats. It is meaningless to attract large numbers of young oysters if the reef cannot keep them alive.
This research brings practical advice for the recovery of global oyster reefs. Professor Joshua Madin points out that nature has created perfect designs for reefs. People just need to learn these natural rules and put them into use, so that oyster reefs can grow better and last longer.
28.(2.5分)Why are oysters called “ecosystem engineers”?
A.They control reef growth speed.
B.They help shape coastal habitats.
C.They balance the climate of the sea.
D.They show many different kinds of sea life.
29.(2.5分)What is the main purpose of the scientists’ research in Paragraph 3?
A.To compare different kinds of wild oysters in Australia.
B.To improve the 3D imaging technology for sea research.
C.To find out if the reef structure really works as expected.
D.To record the total number of oysters in three nearby bays.
30.(2.5分)What did the best design of oyster reefs feature?
A.Many difficult designs.
B.Fully closed structures.
C.Widely spaced structures.
D.Plenty of small sheltered spaces.
31.(2.5分)What does the author imply in the last paragraph?
A.Destroyed oyster reefs are difficult to rebuild.
B.Man-made reefs can fully replace natural ones.
C.The recovery of reefs depends on new technical ways.
D.Nature gives us a good example for the recovery of oyster reefs.
(本题10分)Hidden in the Mianhua Sinkhole (天坑) of Luocheng, Hechi City, Guangxi, lies a one-of-a-kind cliff-side (崖边) bookstore. This 326-meter-deep sinkhole, once only an unknown natural wonder, has now transformed into a site combining wonderful natural surroundings with a unique reading experience and thus attracting visitors from both home and abroad.
The inspiration for this bookstore came to founder He Zhijian two years ago during a visit to an overseas bookstore, and his ideas were later further enriched by visiting Hangzhou’s Tsutaya Books. The result is an open-air cliff-side space filled with over 10,000 books, creating a 10-meter-high, 150-meter-long “canyon (峡谷) of knowledge”.
One of the bookstore’s unique features is its natural protection from the elements: no matter how strong the wind or heavy the rain, the space never gets wet, as the sinkhole acts as a natural shelter (遮蔽), protecting the books and reading area perfectly.
The construction of the bookstore is in perfect harmony with the natural landscape, with environmental protection as a top focus. Original rock formations have been carefully protected. At the sinkhole bottom, except for a raised walkway winding through wild banana plants, the area remains completely untouched, showing great respect for nature and efforts to maintain environmental balance.
Mianhua Village, where the bookstore is located, was once cut off by mountains. A significant change took place when this project was started. “We thought it was a great pity that the county’s fascinating natural landscapes were hidden deep in the mountains, unknown to the outside world,” said the project planners. “That was why we decided to develop the scenic spot that combines nature with culture — aiming to attract more visitors and, in turn, improve local residents’ lives through tourism development.”
32.(2.5分)What inspired the founder’s design?
A.Trips to bookstores home and abroad. B.The natural view of mountain villages.
C.Advice from professional designers. D.Deep research on local ancient culture.
33.(2.5分)How does the sinkhole itself contribute to the bookstore?
A.It protects the original rock formations perfectly.
B.It provides the rock walls for the bookshelves.
C.It blocks noise to create a quiet environment.
D.It functions as a natural shelter against the weather.
34.(2.5分)What principle guided the construction?
A.Balancing protection and development. B.Making efforts to serve local research work.
C.Giving priority to cultural tourism project. D.Remaining environment completely untouched.
35.(2.5分)Why does the author write the text?
A.To call on the public to protect the environment of sinkholes.
B.To share the founder He Zhijian’s successful experience.
C.To recommend a hidden natural wonder to tourists.
D.To introduce a unique culture-nature combined tourism project.
(本题12.5分)Mike, a devoted birdwatcher, begins the morning not with an alarm, but with the first chorus of dawn. His retreat is the quiet edge of the wetland, and his tool is an old telescope. 36(2.5分) A study confirms that birdwatching can boost happiness, reduce stress, and deepen one’s bond with nature more effectively than a simple walk in the park.
This experience reflects the deeply rooted human connection to the natural world. Mike doesn’t just observe nature; he feels part of it. 37(2.5分) Researchers suggest that biodiversity itself functions as a kind of medicine, easing tension and inviting calm through its subtle complexity.
38(2.5分) When Mike is tracking a bird’s slow hunt or identifying a bird by its melody, he enters a state known as “flow”. Time slips away, replaced by focused curiosity and quiet engagement. This absorption emerges naturally, leaving him afterward with a gentle wave of satisfaction — a mental clarity that stays long after he lowers his telescope.
What makes birdwatching uniquely effective, in Mike’s view, is its mix of passive immersion and active attention. Unlike a casual walk, it requires observation, identification, and subtle reasoning. 39(2.5分)
For Mike, each morning spent among the reeds (芦苇) is more than a pastime. 40(2.5分) Here, he finds a conversation with the wild, and a proven support for mental well-being. With each new sighting, he doesn’t just add to his life list — he returns to his daily life a little lighter, a little clearer, reminded that sometimes, the best therapy comes on wings.
A.It is a practice in mindfulness.
B.This is just a pastime bringing him in the wild.
C.The diversity of life in these habitats refreshes his mind.
D.Birdwatching often causes Mike to be tense but fulfilled.
E.Beyond this sense of connection lies a deeper psychological reward.
F.Recently, science has begun to explain what Mike has felt for years.
G.These actions keep him in the present, turning a hobby into deep focus.

(本题15分)阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
When we think of trees, we often picture their beauty — the lush green leaves in spring or the brilliant colors of autumn. But trees are much more than just a pretty sight; they are vital organs of our planet, playing 56(1.5分) crucial role in maintaining a healthy environment, which is the very purpose of celebrating Arbor Day.
One of the most important functions of trees is their ability 57(1.5分) (act) as the “lungs of the earth”. Through the process of photosynthesis, they absorb carbon dioxide — a primary greenhouse gas — and release life-giving oxygen. By 58(1.5分) (store) carbon in their wood, leaves, and roots, trees help to regulate the global climate and slow down the pace of global warming.
Beyond cleaning the air, forests serve as the world’s most effective water and soil conservation system. The roots of trees bind the soil together, preventing it from 59(1.5分) (wash) away by heavy rains. This process 60(1.5分) (significant) reduces the risk of soil erosion, landslides, and flooding. Furthermore, forests act like giant sponges. They absorb rainfall, replenish groundwater supplies, 61(1.5分) help ensure a steady flow of water in rivers and springs.
Forests are also home 62(1.5分) more than 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. They provide food, shelter, and breeding grounds for 63(1.5分) (count) species of animals, insects, and plants. In many ways, protecting forests 64(1.5分) (mean) protecting the intricate web of life on which we all depend.
However, our forests face constant 65(1.5分) (threat) from deforestation. That’s why Arbor Day is not just about planting new trees; it’s about raising awareness of the critical role forests play in ensuring a sustainable future for all living things.

六、书面表达
67.(本题25分)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Every spring, a pair of lovely swallows (燕子) would fly back from the south and build a warm nest under the eaves (屋檐) of my house. Year after year, they returned faithfully as the spring wind blew. I have been observing them since I was a child, gradually growing familiar with these little visitors and enjoying the peaceful warmth they bring to my home.
This spring, the swallows returned on schedule as usual. After days of hard work, they finished their nest, and soon four tiny swallow chicks hatched (孵化) inside. The newly-born chicks were almost featherless, weak and delicate, only able to open their tiny mouths wide, waiting eagerly for food all day long. The parent swallows devoted themselves to raising their babies, flying back and forth tirelessly between the yard and the woods to catch fresh insects. I often stood quietly under the eaves, watching this warm and harmonious scene, and deeply felt the pure beauty of life.
However, an unexpected and heartbreaking thing happened. One rainy and windy afternoon, the sky suddenly turned dark, with strong winds blowing and heavy rain pouring down. The parent swallows flew out early in the morning to hunt for food but never came back. The violent wind swept through the whole yard, shaking the weak swallow nest constantly. Standing under the eaves, I stared at the nest anxiously, my heart filled with worry. The poor little chicks shook violently in the cold wet nest, chirping (叽叽喳喳) weakly and helplessly, waiting hopelessly for their parents who might never return.
Seeing their shaky and miserable appearance, and fearing that they would not survive the cold and hunger, I made up my mind firmly to take on the responsibility of feeding and protecting these poor little creatures.

【答案】14.A 15.C 16.A 17.B
【原文】W: In the studio today, I have Fergus Reilly, a scientist who works for a non-profit organization called Sustainable Fishing. Fergus, your particular concern is the future of fishing.
M: That’s right. We want more people to know what fish they’re eating. According to some researchers, 90% of the fish populations have gone, worse than the situation 50 years ago. But some fish populations can grow quite quickly if they are protected properly.
W: I’m quite worried about the condition of some of the fish I see in supermarkets.
M: I know what you mean. We’ve recently started using electronic devices to track fish as they move from the oceans to the markets. This helps us check the quality, and this is important when it comes to threatened species.

注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I quickly searched online for ways to feed young swallows and prepared tiny insects carefully.

Weeks passed, and the little swallows finally grew strong enough to fly.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
I quickly searched online for ways to feed young swallows and prepared tiny insects carefully. To avoid scaring the little chicks, I stood gently under the eaves and stretched out my hand to feed them one by one. At first, they were hesitant to open their mouths. Gradually, they got used to my gentle care and would chirp happily when they saw me coming. Every day, I stuck to feeding them on time and protected the nest from wind and rain. Witnessing the weak little creatures grow stronger and grow new feathers day by day, I was filled with a sense of accomplishment.
Weeks passed, and the little swallows finally grew strong enough to fly. They began to practice flying around my yard, sometimes resting on the windowsill and singing cheerful songs to me. When autumn came, following their inborn impulse, they were ready to migrate south. Before leaving, they circled over my house several times, as if expressing gratitude. Year after year, I keep waiting under the eaves. This warm experience teaches me that every life deserves kindness and protection, and sincere companionship always leaves warm memories.
