Everything, from study to environment, has changed. Can you adapt yourself to it? You’re not alone. Remember that everybody else in your year is in the same boat. You may not notice it, but they’re just as nervous as you are. Moving to senior high school is a chance, not a problem. Things are different, and all you need to do is to be polite and learn the new rules. The teachers will help. If you don’t know what to do or are worried about something, then ask for help. Teachers are probably the best people to turn to, because they have experience in helping new students. Pay attention to what your teachers say. Everything changes. There are lots of differences between junior high school and senior high school. You will have your lessons with different teachers in different rooms. You will have homework for different subjects on different days, so make sure you get organized. Make sure you know which rooms your classes are in and which days you have your different subjects on. Other points: If you’ve got an older brother or sister at the school, then ask them for advice. Be yourself! It sounds simple, but things will become better if you just act naturally. Having early nights makes a difference. You’ll also find it easier to get up in the morning! 1. What does the author think of entering senior high school? A. It sounds simple. B. It is a difficult problem. C. It’s a good chance. D. It’s worrying. 2. Which of the following does the author suggest you do? A. Ask your classmates for help. B. Don’t be shy. C. Pay attention to others. D. Just act naturally. 3. What is the main purpose of the passage? A. Tell students a story. B. Tell students how to make full use of time. C. Teach students how to organize themselves. D. Help students that are going to senior high school. B The Face-down Generation If you’re reading this, you were probably born in the 2000s. The oh-ohs. The 21st century. That would make you young, creative, connected, global, and no doubt smart. Maybe good-looking, too. Right? But what do other people think about your generation? Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the screen in front of you than the world around you. They think of you as the “face-down generation” because you use your phone so much and they wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family. Are today’s teenagers too busy texting and taking selfies (发短信和自拍) to become successful in real life — or “IRL”, as you would say? Other adults worry that today’s youth are spoilt (宠坏的) and don’t want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by “helicopter parents”. They were always there to guide and help them with a busy schedule filled with homework and extra-curricular activities such as dancing, drawing, or sports. With parents who do everything for them, today’s youth seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s. Does the face-down generation need a heads-up? Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today’s teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They also seem to be enthusiastic (热情的) and willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to help their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls’ rights to go to school. So if you’re one of the oh-ohs, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future. Things are looking up for the face-down generation. Chances are that you will do GR8(great) and LOL(laugh out loud). 4. What is the text mainly about? A. The advantages of the “face-down generation”. B. The challenges faced by the “face-down generation”. C. Opinions and facts about the “face-down generation”. D. The lifestyle of the “face-down generation”. 5. Why are the oh-ohs regarded as the “face-down generation”? A. Because they use their phones so much. B. Because they know how to deal with school, friends and family. C. Because they are busy taking selfies to become successful. D. Because they are more interested in the world around them. 6. What would a “helicopter parent” do? A. They do everything for their kids. B. They give a lot of homework to their kids. C. They take part in many extra-curricular activities. D. They would live like teenagers even if they are adults. 7. What would the writer probably agree? A. The oh-ohs are spoilt. B. The oh-ohs need changes. C. The oh-ohs are a generation that brings hope. D. The oh-ohs are less creative than the past generations. C As a teenager, I fell in love with foreign languages — first French, then Italian, then Hindi, and Chinese. The learning has often left me highly frustrated, but has also given me great joy at the fact of having understood some of the beauty of those wonderful, magical tongues. Why did I learn all those languages? Out of love for different sound systems, different writing systems, different grammars, different idioms, different ways of seeing the world. I also loved repeatedly listening to songs from other lands and feeling the culture and history silently lying in the words and tunes. My earliest-learnt language was French, and then Italian. My French is very good. Although my Italian is not as good, it gives me a huge burst of pride whenever I’m taken for a native speaker. Chinese is another kettle of fish. I’ve struggled with it for many years, yet I’m almost always lost in a group of native speakers. It’s discouraging, but I still want to try to climb the Everest (珠穆朗玛峰) of the Chinese language on my own. I don’t want a helicopter (直升机) ride to the summit. Learning another language is one of the deepest and most human things one can possibly do. Language is at the core of who we are. Language makes us who we are. Today, AI can impressively help anyone to write and read in almost any language. But this is a surface-level exchange of ideas, which comes at a steep price: the loss of honest engagement (参与) with the magic organ that makes us human. The challenges of learning a new language are exactly why it is still so important to do so in the AI era. Chinese is difficult for me, but I will never allow AI to borrow my voice to express my thoughts aloud in a perfect Chinese accent. 8. What do we know about the author’s learning of foreign languages? A. It is always a pleasant experience. B. It is easiest for her to learn Hindi. C. She started learning them at the age of 8. D. She really loves them and their cultures. 9. Why does the author compare Chinese to “Everest”? A. To show it is full of natural beauty. B. To suggest it is extremely challenging. C. To show it is the most important language. D. To prove it is popular among language learners. 10. Why is learning a new language still important in the AI era? A. Because AI cannot translate languages clearly enough. B. Because it allows us to avoid the challenges of modern life. C. Because the process itself keeps us truly engaged as humans. D. Because it helps us get better grades in school examinations. 11. What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To recommend AI tools for language study. B. To share personal views on learning languages. C. To compare the difficulties of French, Italian and Chinese. D. To prove that Chinese is the hardest language in the world. D We live in a town with three beaches. There are two parks less than 10 minutes’ walk from home where neighbourhood children gather to play. However, what my children want to do after school is pick up a screen — any screen — and stare at it for hours. They are not alone. Today’s children spend an average of four and a half hours a day looking at screens, split between watching television and using the Internet. In the past few years, an increasing number of people and organizations have begun coming up with plans to counter this trend. A couple of years ago, filmmaker David Bond realized that his children, then aged five and three, were attached to screens to the point where he was able to say “chocolate” into his three-year-old son’s ear without getting a response. He realized that something needed to change, and, being a London media type, appointed himself “marketing director for Nature”. He documented his journey as he began to treat nature as a brand to be marketed to young people. The result was Project Wild Thing, a film which charts the birth of the Wild Network, a group of organizations with the common goal of getting children out into nature. “Just five more minutes outdoors can make a difference,” David Bond says. “There is a lot of really interesting evidence which seems to be suggesting that if children are inspired up to the age of seven, then being outdoors will be a habit for life.” His own children have got into the habit of playing outside now: “We just send them out into the garden and tell them not to come back in for a while.” Summer is upon us. There is an amazing world out there, and it needs our children as much as they need it. Let us get them out and let them play. 12. What is the problem with the author’s children? A. They often annoy the neighbours. B. They are tired of doing their homework. C. They have no friends to play with. D. They stay in front of screens for too long. 13. How did David Bond support his idea? A. By making a documentary film. B. By organizing outdoor activities. C. By advertising in London media. D. By creating a network of friends. 14. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “charts” in Paragraph 3? A. Records. B. Advises. C. Carries. D. Needs. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Let Children Have Fun B. Young Children Need More Free Time C. Market Nature to Children D. But what do other people think about your generation?(如果你正在读这篇文章,那你大概率出生于21世纪初,也就是00后。 根据第二段“They think of you as the “face-down generation” because you use your phone so much and they wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family.(他们认为你属于“低头一代”,因为你总是用手机,所以他们担心你会如何应对学校、朋友和家庭)”可知,被视为“低头一代”是因为他们太频繁地使用手机了。 根据第三段“They were always there to guide and help them with a busy schedule filled with homework and extra-curricular activities such as dancing, drawing, or sports. With parents who do everything for them, today’s youth seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s.(即便孩子们课业繁重、还要参加舞蹈、绘画、运动等课外活动,他们也始终陪伴左右,给予指导与帮助。 根据最后一段“So if you’re one of the oh-ohs, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future.(所以,如果你是那些00后之一,未来仍有值得期待的理由)”可知,作者可能同意00后一代是带来希望的一代。 C As a teenager, I fell in love with foreign languages — first French, then Italian, then Hindi, and Chinese. D 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第二段“Why did I learn all those languages? Out of love for different sound systems, different writing systems, different grammars, different idioms, different ways of seeing the world. I also loved repeatedly listening to songs from other lands and feeling the culture and history silently lying in the words and tunes. 根据第四段中“Chinese is another kettle of fish. I’ve struggled with it for many years, yet I’m almost always lost in a group of native speakers. It’s discouraging, but I still want to try to climb the Everest (珠穆朗玛峰) of the Chinese language on my own. 根据第五段“Today, AI can impressively help anyone to write and read in almost any language. But this is a surface-level exchange of ideas, which comes at a steep price: the loss of honest engagement (参与) with the magic organ that makes us human. The challenges of learning a new language are exactly why it is still so important to do so in the AI era. 通读全文,结合第一段“The learning has often left me highly frustrated, but has also given me great joy at the fact of having understood some of the beauty of those wonderful, magical tongues. Out of love for different sound systems... 和第五段“The challenges of learning a new language are exactly why it is still so important to do so in the AI era. David Bond: A Role Model for Children 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. A 15. 根据第一段中的“However, what my children want to do after school is pick up a screen — any screen — and stare at it for hours.(然而,我的孩子们放学后想做的就是拿起一块屏幕——随便什么屏幕——盯着看上好几个小时。)” 根据第三段中的“He documented his journey as he began to treat nature as a brand to be marketed to young people. The result was Project Wild Thing, a film which charts the birth of the Wild Network, a group of organizations with the common goal of getting children out into nature.(他记录下自己的这段历程,同时开始把大自然当作一个可以向青少年推广的品牌。 根据第三段中的“The result was Project Wild Thing, a film which charts the birth of the Wild Network, a group of organizations with the common goal of getting children out into nature.(于是就有了Project Wild Thing这部影片,一部charts野生网络诞生的影片,该组织联盟的共同目标是让孩子们走进大自然。)” 根据第三段“He realized that something needed to change, and, being a London media type, appointed himself “marketing director for Nature”. He documented his journey as he began to treat nature as a brand to be marketed to young people.(他意识到有些现状必须做出改变。 The Wonderful Habit of Family Reading Are you searching for a meaningful activity that brings your family closer? ____16____ This simple practice offers far more benefits than you might imagine.
