专题08 概要写作 (一) (25-26高三上·上海普陀区曹杨第二中学·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible. Canals in Britain The restoration of Britain’s vast canal network has been a notable success. Wild ducks and birds can be seen along the 100 miles or so of Birmingham’s canals. Manchester boat users and walkers can learn about the origin of the Industrial Revolution (工业革命) along waterways that run through the city. Then comes a heavy blow: having previously frozen funding for the Canal & River Trust, the government now plans cuts of £ 300 million to its finances, beginning in 2017. This shortsighted decision will stretch resources beyond breaking point. Volunteers already have to be relied on for clean-up work and other tasks, which may leave the maintenance all the more difficult. Some canals may even have to close. One report mentions that the large stretches of London’s network will be affected, including Little Venice. Originally saved in the 1960s by the then transport secretary Barbara Castle, these waterways were noted for their potentially broader uses besides transportation. Five decades on, Castle’s vision of “leisure ways” has become a reality. Joggers are seen pounding the sunny tracks, fishers sitting on grassy banks, tourists sightseeing on narrowboats, and kids merrily cycling around. Their public good doesn’t stop here. Along the five-mile stretch of the Chesterfield canal, a former lock-house (船闸管理人值班房) now hosts a cafe, a meeting room, shower facilities and a play and picnic area. Essential services are available, from small restaurants to corner stores, making canals attractive to business as well as boat enthusiasts. This is the kind of reimagining of waterways that Barbara Castle foresaw. The government has a responsibility to ensure that they are maintained rather than ruined by funding cuts deeply in conflict with the spirit and direction of the times. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (二) (25-26高三上·上海闵行区七宝中学·期中)Read the following passage. The Rise of Artificial Intelligence and the Decline of Truth Spreading convincing misinformation once required great effort, but today a smartphone and generative AI can create fake photos, cloned voices, and videos that misrepresent events. While warnings about social media’s power to mislead are not new, AI has intensified the danger by making false content easier to produce and harder to detect. As a result, people now question whether what they see and hear is real, with genuine recordings dismissed as fake and fabricated ones appearing convincingly true. Fake content made by AI is already common. Many fake images show clear signs of AI generation, such as strange body shapes or unnatural faces, but these clues are easy to overlook. As the technology improves, such imperfections will become harder to spot. With so much fake content spreading, some people now use the existence of AI as an excuse to doubt even genuine information. The effects of this technology can be very serious. For example, the U. S. Federal Trade Commission has warned that cheaters can now copy a person’s voice to pretend to be a family member and trick people into sending money. In schools, some teens have already been caught creating and sharing fake images of classmates using AI tools. Despite these harmful uses, the technology is also being packaged as a consumer product. For instance, some smartphones now have advanced editing tools that can change faces in photos or even remove people completely. Not everyone thinks public access to AI will make misinformation worse. Some say there has always been more online content than people can handle. Yet this perspective is hardly comforting. Trust in institutions and experts is already at historic lows. As Hany Farid, a specialist in investigating digital evidence, observes: “If you don’t trust me and I don’t trust you, how do we respond to climate change, or have fair and open elections?” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (三) (25-26高三上·上海南洋中学·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. Every well-organized team needs to have an outstanding leader with specific skills. Sometimes the leader’s abilities can come to affect the whole team. Although we students are still young, it’s never too early to cultivate leadership skills. A team consists of both leaders and followers. Neither side can exist and work effectively without the other. What is essential to the role of leader is the ability to unite the whole team. A great leader enables their team to achieve a common goal through the giving of clear directions and support. Meanwhile, everyone on a team also desires personal success, so a balance can be hard to strike. If a leader doesn’t have fierce determination, the followers will lose their confidence and things will not be done well. What’s more, a successful and charming leader ought to be able to handle interpersonal relationships well. They should be honest, fair, objective and impartial (公正的) when it comes to both rewards and punishments. These kinds of leaders are trustworthy, and thus, the working atmosphere will only come to be improved. They are role models who can have a strong influence on the whole team. To become a powerful leader at school, students have to take the initiative in connecting with their fellow students. Good communication skills allow people to build good relationships, which is an essential part of being a good leader. If you find it hard to express your ideas clearly to those who you collaborate with, it may be rather difficult for you to be a good leader. It’s a well-known fact that, whatever field you wish to work in, leadership skills are necessary for anyone who desires to have a successful career. So it’s never too early to train yourselves as promising future leaders. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (四) (25-26高三上·上海卢湾高级中学·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. Fluido, a Texas-based analytics company, recently released its new product, called FluidoPlus for free. It connects retailers (零售商) to a cloud-based analytics service using WiFi. They then collect information about customers behaviour by monitoring the media access code (MAC) in every smart phone that enters the stores. This means that stores will be able to implement an analytics package to receive information that could help guide their marketing. With the information , store managers can measure the number of people who walk past the store and the number who come through the front door. Also, this information includes whether or not these people come in immediately or are convinced to do so by the shop front. Fluido Plus has received a lot of criticism from consumers concerned about their privacy being invaded. But Fluido assures that the MAC data is scrambled, which means that no personally identifiable information is collected. The company also points to the fact that Fluido is a part of the group that initiated the Mobile Location Analytics code of conduct. These sets of rules require companies to receive customers’ agreement before they can collect any personal information. Emily Carrless, a senior director at the NO Watching Please Co., believes that this technology ignores customers’ privacy. “This is a clear example of profit outweighing privacy, she said. “The use of tracking technology by shops in order to provide a better or more personal service seems totally disproportionate,” Carrless also stressed the importance of customer awareness. She said that while tracking technology was still developing, there was an obvious goal in mind to identify individuals. Companies like Fluido won’t stop at the general information like the number of customers who walk into stores. The long game is about identifying individuals, and this technologies is very close to enabling Fluido to do that. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (五) (25-26高三上·上海上进才中学·期中)Directions: Read the following three passages. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible. Mindfulness Mindfulness typically refers to a state of in-the-moment awareness in which one avoids judging the thoughts and emotions of himself and others. It is often practiced in meditation(冥想) and some forms of therapy. Numerous findings from psychological research suggest practicing mindfulness can lead to many benefits, including stress reduction and increased psychological well-being. For example, in a study of cancer patients, cultivating mindfulness through meditation or other mindfulness-based training enabled people to be more selective about their emotional experiences, enabling them to reduce their stress and anxiety while increasing positive emotions. Similarly, studies show that mindfulness can also enhance information processing speed while reducing effort and negative thoughts and the meditators significantly outperformed the non-meditators on all measures of attention, suggestion that mindfulness improves one's ability to focus. It is apparent that mindfulness has many noteworthy benefits, which include everything, from psychological to physical improvements. However, research has also shown that in some cases mindfulness can also lead to negative outcomes. For example, one study found that following mindfulness meditation, participants were more likely to form take memories, demonstrating a potential unintended downside to mindfulness. In addition, another study suggested mindfulness researchers needed to be careful that they didn't learn participants by bringing about unpleasant mental, physical, or spiritual reactions through mindfulness. For example, mindfulness meditation may result in severe anxiety for those diagnosed with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) (创伤后应激障碍). Those with PTSD tend to avoid thoughts and feelings related to their trauma. However, mindfulness meditation encourages emotional openness, which could lead individuals with PTSD to experience the stressors that they previously avoided, potentially leading to re-traumatization. It can't be denied that mindfulness is an important tool in the managerial toolbox, but it is not a cure-all, and it must be applied thoughtfully to be effective. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (一) (25-26高三上·上海进华中学·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s)of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible. It seems that deep, long-lasting happiness comes from intangible things, rather than things like chocolates and smart-phones. One essential factor is human relationships. People who have the support of family members and also have strong friendships are more likely to be happy. Feeling protected and respected and knowing you can trust in the people around you is vital. But happiness means you have to give and take. Performing acts of kindness and generosity on a regular basis, for example, listening to a friend in need or carrying a neighbor’s shopping, will make you feel on top of the world. Even a simple smile can work wonders. In fact, they say that one smile makes a person feel as good as eating 2,000 bars of chocolates(not all at once, of course). It is not surprising that health is another key contributor to happiness. Poor health will certainly make you feel down in the mouth. But being healthy and staying healthy require some effort. A healthy diet is crucial and so is regular exercise. Laziness will not make you happy. Exercising for 20 to 30 minutes a day helps to reduce stress and anxiety and makes you feel more positive and optimistic because it releases endorphins(feel-good chemicals). So, if you have been feeling blue and worrying too much about your exams, get exercising. You’ll also find that you sleep better. Talking of sleep, do you often wake up feeling miserable? If so, it’s probably because you haven’t had enough of it. Teenagers tend to go to bed too late and have to get up early, so many suffer from a lack of sleep. Tiredness will certainly affect your happiness levels and put you in a bad mood. It also affects your ability to concentrate and may slow your growth. So if you want to be happy and do well at school, try to get at least eight hours of sleep a night. Now that you know the theory, it’s time to put it all into practice. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (二) (25-26高三上·上海晋元高级中学·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. Eye Contact: So Powerful (and Weird) When two people talk, the eyes play a delicate yet powerful role in shaping the interaction. A moment of mutual eye contact can help create a sense of connection, trust, and shared purpose. But it can also feel surprisingly intense. Many people report a flash of discomfort or embarrassment when someone meets their eyes for too long, leading them to look away. This reaction is not a sign of weakness or insincerity; rather, it reflects how cognitively (认知地) demanding eye contact can be. Direct gaze (凝视) requires the brain to process not just facial expressions but also emotional signals and potential intentions, which can be mentally exhausting. Eye contact has long been described as a kind of body language, capable of communicating far more than words alone. In cooperative settings, it often works together with gestures and facial movements to express meaning efficiently. Cognitive neuroscientist Nathan Caruana has shown that a particular gaze sequence — looking at an object, making eye contact with a partner, then returning one’s gaze to the object — often functions as a request for assistance. This exchange allows two people to communicate without saying a word, saving time and reducing the risk of misunderstanding. Such gaze patterns are particularly valuable in contexts where oral communication is limited or impossible, such as high-noise environments, rescue operations, competitive team sports, or interactions involving hearing loss. Yet the effectiveness of eye contact is highly context-dependent. In an informal chat between friends, extended eye contact might enhance closeness and mutual understanding. In a job interview, however, the same intensity could feel unfriendly or artificial. Individual differences also play a role: some people are comfortable maintaining eye contact for long stretches, while others prefer to rely on gestures or indirect gaze. Research shows wide variation in how frequently people look at their partner’s face during joint tasks, and many participants in Caruana’s studies barely did so at all. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (三) (25-26高三上·上海向明中学·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. Aging Chimpanzees Prefer Smaller, Closer Social Circles Many things happen when people are ageing. Apart from the greying hair and wrinkled skin, there is an emotional change which comes with older age. When humans reach their later years, they favor more long-term friends and their social circle is reduced. Now, for what appears to be the first time, scientists have seen the same behavior in another species. Twenty years of observations of chimpanzees reveal that older males choose to keep contact with their established friends at the expense of other relationships. The researchers studied 78,000 hours of observations made between 1996 and 2016 that followed the social interactions of 21 male chimpanzees between the ages of 15 and 58 years old. They classified the chimps’ relationships depending on the amount of time they sat with others and groomed (梳毛) them. They then rated the various pairings as mutual friendships, where both chimps seemed to enjoy the relationship; one-sided friendships, where one chimp was more keen to be friends than the other; and non-friendships, where neither chimp showed interest in the other. When the scientists looked at the patterns of friendships, they found that the older chimps had more mutual friendships and fewer one-sided friendships than younger chimps. Another feature seen in older humans was also spotted in the chimps. As the males got older, their levels of aggression gradually become less, meaning they started fewer fights and tended to threaten others in their group less often. The observations have left the researchers puzzled. According to an idea in psychology known as socio-emotional selectivity theory, older humans prefer more positive relationships because they are aware that time is running out. However, many animal experts argue that chimpanzees lack the human sense of mortality (死亡), suggesting something else is driving the behavior. Robin Dunbar, a professor of evolutionary psychology at the University of Oxford, said in humans, the decrease in social circles with age is due to declining social motivation to get out and meet people combined by lack of opportunity. In chimpanzees, as older males compete less for mates, they may focus on close, reciprocal (互惠的) relationships with trusted partners, he said. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (四) (25-26高三上·上海行知中学·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. Public Opinion Counts Modbury is a typical small town of the south of England with a population of about 1,600. Typical, that is, apart from the fact that there are no plastic carrier bags in the town. None. Plastic bags have been well and truly dumped! The removal of the plastic bags was the brainchild of Rebecca Hosking, Modbury resident and documentary-maker. Filming a documentary in the Pacific Ocean, Rebecca was horrified at the effects of plastic bags on the wildlife off Hawaii. Among other things, she saw seabirds fatally trapped in plastic bags that don’t biodegrade. When Rebecca returned to her hometown, she discussed this problem with people, including the shopkeepers and everyone supported her suggestion to make the town plastic bag free. But for Rebecca’s concept, Modbury would still be an unremarkable little place. Now, however, shoppers take reusable cotton bags shopping with them, or they buy biodegradable corn starch ones on the shops. The shopkeepers now wrap their goods in paper. To prove that the townsfolk are not only committed to reducing plastic waste, they organised a mass beach clean-up last year. Dozens of volunteers came to the beach on the appointed day to clean it up, taking the rubbish that visitors throw away and recycling it. And the greatest part of that rubbish was... no, not plastic bags, but plastic bottles. Becoming the first town in Europe to ban plastic bags, Modbury is now harvesting the rewards of fame — reporters and camera crews from newspapers and TV channels across the world are coming to this mild town to find out its secret. And, contrary to some of the initial reports, it is a normal town, trying to live life in a slightly different way. As one resident put it. “We’re ordinary people, but we want to make just a little difference.” (五) (25-26高三上·上海徐汇区·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. The Power of Trust As an athlete, I’ve always worked hard to push myself to my limits and with that usually comes some aches and pains. So last year when I started to feel some muscle soreness after a tough workout at first I didn’t think it was a big deal. I was training for a marathon at the time, so over the weekend I’d done a 13-mile run. The following Tuesday I hit my favorite CrossFit gym to do a workout that involved a lot of upper body weight lifting. My trainer told me to take it easy on my body, but I figured I’d be fine and powered through it. Afterward, my trainer noticed a slight swelling (肿胀) in my arm and said he was worried. I tried to brush him off but he insisted I drink a lot of water and check in with him in a few hours. Sure enough, by that afternoon the swelling had increased and I headed to the doctor. I still thought he was making a mountain out of a molehill but I trusted my trainer so I did it. The doctor took one look at me and diagnosed me with rhabdomyolysis (横纹肌溶解症), a life-threatening condition where muscle overuse causes kidney failure. As they gave me IV fluids to clear my blood, my doctor told me that if I’d waited even another 30 minutes, we would have been having this discussion in the emergency room. I made a full recovery over the weekend, thanks in no small part to my trainer. I was a very experienced CrossFitter and still hadn’t seen any problems. Thankfully I had a great trainer I could trust so that I survived. Trust is important. It allows us to rely on others’ judgment when our own perspective is clouded by determination or pride. Whether it’s a coach, friend, or mentor, trusting someone can protect us from harm, push us toward better choices, and sometimes, quite literally, save our lives. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (六) (25-26高三上·上海南洋模范中学·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. Most people experience the natural feeling of jealousy at some point in their lives. Some people feel it more strongly than others and some even suffer from the feeling to the extent that jealousy starts consuming them. In some cases the feeling is justified but in others it is not. Frankly speaking, jealousy is a poisonous emotion, both for the person experiencing it and for their families and friends. Jealousy is usually considered as a single, independent emotion, but in reality, it is a whole bundle of feelings that interconnect with each other such as anger, fear, hurt, anxiety, sadness, depression, loneliness, envy, feeling powerless, feeling excluded and so on. For the most part, jealousy is a by-product of one’s own problems with self-confidence and self-respect. It is about a deep fear of the unknown fear of being abandoned and of losing power or control over their families or friends, and also the fear that the needs will not be met. Jealous people often feel very insecure and anxious about their worthiness, feeling that they might not be good enough. Jealousy can also easily become an obsession with people. Someone who is being consumed by jealousy constantly draws in mind pictures and imagines situations where their families or friends are betraying them. As a result, they always manage to convince themselves that their families or friends have done something not proper. These endless suspicions are poisonous and can be extremely harmful to any relationship. So, how is it possible to prevent these ugly thoughts from appearing and from flooding one’s mind at all? The best thing to start with is to start sharing your feelings with your families or friends. It is important to tell them openly that you love them. You may also want to explain that because they are so important to you, you are feeling jealous and insecure. In addition, never feel in a negative way about yourself and certainly do not talk negatively about yourself. Self-confidence is respected by others and if you are always able to think positively when negative feelings start invading you, a habit of doing so will be eventually developed in you. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (七) (25-26高三上·上海华东师范大学第二附属中学·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. For years almost every new car sold has come with a high-tech, futuristic screen, which controls everything from the air conditioning to the music. Even safety features like automatic lane-keeping are sometimes screen-controlled. But are touchscreens safe? The case for the accusation is straightforward. If fiddling with the screen of a smartphone while driving is distracting, and therefore dangerous, then doing likewise with your car’s is probably risky too. Drivers can learn the location of physical controls, and press buttons or twiddle dials without taking their eyes off the road. A touchscreen offers no physical feedback, making that much harder. And because a screen must do dozens of jobs, finding a particular setting often means tapping through several sub-menus. The result, say critics, is a dangerous distraction built into the car itself. Research backs that up. A study, done in 2024 by researchers at SINTEF, a Norwegian contract-research organisation, used gaze-tracking cameras to compare how long drivers were distracted while performing different tasks on a touchscreen. Even the quickest job — changing the temperature — meant three and a half seconds, on average, of not looking at the road. Finding a new radio station took 11 seconds, and putting a new address into the satellite navigation took 16. An analysis published in 2020 by the Transport Research Laboratory, a British organisation, found that touchscreens impaired a driver’s reaction time more than driving over the legal alcohol limit. Safety organisations are beginning to notice. From January new rules from Euro NCAP, an organisation that provides safety ratings for cars sold in Europe, will mean no car can get a full five-star score unless certain crucial functions — indicators, for instance, or the windscreen wipers — are controlled by real switches. Euro NCAP’s safety guidelines have no legal force. But carmakers use its ratings as a selling-point. But innovation never stops. Even as touchscreens are falling out of favour, many manufacturers are turning their attention to voice control — though that is a subject for another story. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (八) (25-26高三上·上海复旦大学附属中学·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. The Case for a Mentoring (指导) Program Teachers and leaders at our school are continually telling us that we should become more engaged in the community by volunteering our time. After thinking about this, I have a suggestion that would not only help high school students get involved but would also help elementary students in our district. Many of the students at our high school have excellent academic skills. With a mentoring program, these students could put their skills to use by helping younger students who are struggling academically. My own sister, who attends one of the elementary schools that feeds into our high school, is having a hard time in math. Her classroom is crowded, and she can’t always get the one-on-one attention that she needs to understand a new concept. She has told me that she has many friends who also need help. A mentoring program in which high school students tutor elementary school students could be the solution. By using a mentoring program, struggling youngsters could get the individual attention they need to master new concepts. In researching mentoring programs, I learned of several promising results. According to an article published in the November 2005 Education World, elementary school students raised their reading levels significantly in a short period of time after being tutored by high school students. Furthermore, volunteering seems to have a positive influence on the high school mentors themselves. As students learn how to be good mentors, they focus on effective communication skills, including how to share and how to listen, all boosted significantly. Generally speaking, these skills are valuable for everyone. Additionally, mentors get the satisfaction of meaningfully contributing to their community and future generations. Because mentoring programs have proven to be so successful, they are also undergoing certain changes. Some schools pair high school students with elementary students to practice computer skills, to play sports, to learn to play a musical instrument, or to discover how to be a good citizen. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (一) (25-26高三上·上海大同中学·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. Pedestrians only The concept of traffic-free shopping areas goes back a long time. During the Middle Ages, traffic-free shopping areas were built to allow people to shop in comfort and, more importantly, safety. The modern, traffic-free shopping street was born in Europe in the 1960s, when both city populations and car ownership increased rapidly. Dirty exhaust fumes from cars and the risks involved in crossing the road were beginning to make shopping an unpleasant and dangerous experience. Many believed the time was right for experimenting with car-free streets, and shopping areas seemed the best place to start. At first, there was resistance from shopkeepers. They believed that such a move would be bad for business. They argued that people would avoid streets if they were unable to get to them in their cars. When the first streets in Europe were closed to traffic, there were even noisy demonstrations, as many shopkeepers predicted they would lose customers. However, research carried out afterwards in several European cities revealed some unexpected statistics. In Munich, Cologne and Hamburg, visitors to shopping areas increased by 50 percent. On Copenhagen’s main shopping street, shopkeepers reported sales increases of 25-40 percent. Shopkeepers in Minneapolis, USA, were so impressed when they learnt this that they even offered to pay for the construction and maintenance costs of their own traffic-free streets. With the arrival of the traffic-free shopping street, many shops, especially those selling things like clothes, food and smaller luxury items, prospered. Unfortunately, it wasn’t good news for everyone, as shops selling furniture and larger electrical appliances actually saw their sales drop. Many of these were forced to move elsewhere, away from the city centre. Today they are a common feature on the outskirts of towns and cities, often situated in out-of-town retail zones with their own car parks and other local facilities. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (二) (25-26高三上·上海敬业中学·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. Why People Watch Sports On a weekend afternoon, millions of people sit before screens or gather in stadiums, their hearts rising and falling with every goal, every swing, every shout. To an outsider, this passion might seem puzzling — after all, the result changes nothing about their own lives. Yet for those watching, the experience feels deeply real, even necessary. Part of the appeal lies in emotion. Sports compress the drama of life into a few exciting hours, offering joy, tension, relief, and sometimes heartbreak—all without lasting harm. A match can stir the same chemical reactions as adventure or love, releasing energy that makes spectators feel vividly alive. The emotional rollercoaster is not chaos but a kind of shared rhythm that binds people together. That sense of connection is what keeps fans returning. Sitting among strangers who cheer for the same team, or chatting online with distant supporters, we become part of a temporary community that breaks the boundaries of daily life. Victories and losses alike strengthen this invisible bond, giving fans the warmth of belonging and the comfort of shared identity. Research suggests that these moments matter. Studies in England and Belgium have found that people who regularly watch or attend sporting events tend to feel less lonely and more satisfied with life. Even those who follow games on TV often describe a lift in mood and motivation, as if each match renews their sense of participation in the wider world. Beyond the excitement, sports offer stories — of discipline, courage, and persistence — that mirror the struggles of ordinary people. Watching athletes push limits or recover from failure reminds us what effort and hope can achieve. Sometimes, when the crowd falls silent just before a decisive play, time itself seems to pause. In that breathless space between hope and outcome, every spectator feels the same heartbeat — a quiet reminder of how deeply alive we are. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ (三) (25-26高三上·上海格致中学·期中)Directions: Read the following passage. Uniqlo’s Quiet Revolution in American Fashion Founded in 1984 in Hiroshima, Japan, Uniqlo has grown into a global brand with over 2,000 stores in 15 countries. In the U.S., it has only a modest presence, yet its affordable, practical basics have become essentials for many young, urban professionals. Price is a major draw: jeans sell for 30, and signature down jackets for $70. While often compared to fast-fashion brands, Uniqlo focuses less on chasing trends and more on offering consistent essentials—black pants, oxfords, and cotton socks—that remain available year-round. Millennials (千禧一代) entered a job market with fewer opportunities and heavy student debt, leaving less to spend on clothes. At the same time, workplaces became more casual, replacing suits with chinos, shirts, or even jeans and hoodies. This shift made flashy, expensive fashion less appealing and created an opening in the American market. “Clothing in the West, it’s associated with status, with rank,” said Hirotaka Takeuchi, a professor at Harvard Business School. In Japan, clothing has traditionally been more standardized—a philosophy Uniqlo has brought to the U.S., where understated style is finding new fans. Understanding these customers, Uniqlo offers clothing that balances affordability with quality. It knows shoppers may not want to pay top dollar for pants but still expect a good fit, and its free tailoring service means a $40 pair can look far more expensive. While mindful of budgets, the brand caters to taste as well, offering silk blouses, cashmere sweaters, and limited-edition collaborations with designers such as Alexander Wang, Jun Takahashi, and Jil Sander to attract style-conscious shoppers. Work is just meeting now In 2016, a group of work researchers calculated that time spent in meetings had increased by 50 percent since the 1990s. Many workers were spending so much time in meetings, taking calls, and combing through their inbox that their most “critical work” often had to wait until they were home. Wall- to- wall meetings from 9 to 5 were pushing any creative or individual work to some period after dinner. In 2022, Microsoft researchers published a study that anonymously tracked workers using the company’s software. They discovered that about one-third of the workers in their study were as likely to work at 10 p. m. as they were at 8 a. m. The reason? When the pandemic sent knowledge workers home, official meetings replaced casual interactions and made it impossible for many people to get things done unless they found time to log back online after dinner. In further research, Microsoft has found that, since 2020, workers in their sample have tripled the time they spent in meetings. If someone had to defend this phenomenon, they might point out that as firms grow, they accumulate bureaucratic habits. Departments are born, and workers within those departments develop expertise that is alien to people just down the hall. Working across these divisions requires that people spend more time getting to know and understand what their colleagues- are doing. Recent cultural changes might also be driving the surge in meeting times. In the last few years, the business world has focused much more on inclusion— letting more people’s voices be heard in decision- making. A business culture that allows more people to say their piece is one that requires people to spend more time listening to other people talk. In some decisions, that might be appropriate. At extremes, an office that requests more input is an office where talking about work can disturb efficient decision making. Today, knowledge work is, quantitatively speaking, less about creating new things than it is about talking about those things. Luckily, artificial- intelligence tools have the potential for eliminating unnecessary meetings and allowing people to focus on their work— or, even better, to cut hours of meetings that they can instead devote to leisure. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ / 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 专题08 概要写作 (一) 【答案】reference answer: Despite the canals’ ecological and historical significance, the British government plans to cut funding to the canals. As Hany Farid, a specialist in investigating digital evidence, observes: “If you don’t trust me and I don’t trust you, how do we respond to climate change, or have fair and open elections?” ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Generative AI now allows fake content to be created with ease, intensifying social media’s power to mislead. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Mindfulness means being in the present mind state without assessing oneself or others. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Sustainable happiness may well be more spiritual than material. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Eye contact shapes how people connect and understand each other, though it can also bring discomfort because it demands mental effort. It serves as a form of body language that enables smooth, wordless interaction in many situations. Its effect varies across contexts and individuals, from deepening friendship to seeming awkward in formal interactions. 【导语】 本文主要介绍了眼神交流在人际交往中的强大作用。它既可以建立人与人之间的联结,也会带来精神上的疲惫;作为一种肢体语言,它能够实现无声沟通,但它的效果受场景与个人差异的影响。 【解析】 1.要点摘录 ①A moment of mutual eye contact can help create a sense of connection, trust, and shared purpose. ②Many people report a flash of discomfort or embarrassment when someone meets their eyes for too long, leading them to look away. ③Direct gaze (凝视) requires the brain to process not just facial expressions but also emotional signals and potential intentions, which can be mentally exhausting. ④Eye contact has long been described as a kind of body language, capable of communicating far more than words alone. ⑤This exchange allows two people to communicate without saying a word, saving time and reducing the risk of misunderstanding. ⑥Yet the effectiveness of eye contact is highly context‑dependent. ⑦In an informal chat between friends, extended eye contact might enhance closeness and mutual understanding. ⑧In a job interview, however, the same intensity could feel unfriendly or artificial. ⑨Individual differences also play a role: some people are comfortable maintaining eye contact for long stretches, while others prefer to rely on gestures or indirect gaze. 2.缜密构思 将第①②③三个要点整合为眼神交流的双重影响,将第④⑤要点整合为眼神交流作为肢体语言的功能,将第⑥⑦⑧⑨整合为眼神交流的效果受情境和个体差异影响。 3.遣词造句 Eye contact shapes the way people connect and understand each other, though it can also bring discomfort because it demands mental effort. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】A long-term study reveals that older male chimpanzees, like aging humans, prefer smaller but established social circles. “We’re ordinary people, but we want to make just a little difference.” 【答案】Modbury, a small town in the south of England, is the first plastic bag-free town in Europe, thanks to Rebecca Hosking, who put forward this idea after seeing the effects of plastic bags on the wildlife. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】As an experienced athlete, I had tough training for marathon despite sore muscles, when my trainer warned me of the swollen arm and expressed his concern. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Jealousy is a common but poisonous emotion, which is actually a mix of interconnected feelings like anger, fear and sadness. It mainly arises from low self-confidence and the fear of being abandoned or losing control. It can turn into obsession, causing suspicion and damaging relationships. To address it, share feelings with loved ones and foster positive self-confidence. 【导语】 本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了嫉妒这一常见情绪的本质,指出其是多种交织情感的集合,源于自信心与自尊的缺失及相关恐惧心理,还会发展为执念破坏人际关系;同时给出应对方法,即与亲友倾诉感受并建立积极的自信心。 【解析】 1. 要点摘录 ①Most people experience the natural feeling of jealousy at some point in their lives. ②Frankly speaking, jealousy is a poisonous emotion, both for the person experiencing it and for their families and friends. ③in reality, it is a whole bundle of feelings that interconnect with each other such as anger, fear, hurt, anxiety, sadness, depression, loneliness, envy, feeling powerless, feeling excluded and so on. ④For the most part, jealousy is a by-product of one’s own problems with self-confidence and self-respect. ⑤Jealousy can also easily become an obsession with people. ⑥These endless suspicions are poisonous and can be extremely harmful to any relationship. ⑦The best thing to start with is to start sharing your feelings with your families or friends. ⑧never feel in a negative way about yourself and certainly do not talk negatively about yourself. 2. 缜密构思: 以①②点总起,点明嫉妒的普遍性与危害性;以③点说明嫉妒的本质是多种交织的情感;整合④点,指出嫉妒源于自信心和自尊的缺失及相关恐惧;以⑤⑥点表明嫉妒会发展为执念,滋生猜疑并破坏人际关系;最后整合⑦⑧点,给出应对嫉妒的具体方法。 3.遣词造句 Jealousy is a common but harmful emotion, which is actually a mix of interconnected feelings like anger, fear and sadness. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Most new cars are equipped with touchscreens controlling various functions, but they’re dangerous as they lack physical feedback and require complex sub-menu operations, distracting drivers. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】The author suggests a school mentoring program, where high school students with strong academic skills tutor struggling elementary students. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: People watch sports for multiple reasons, which bring intense shared emotions and foster a sense of community and belonging. Besides, they also boost life satisfaction and mood, and offer inspiring stories of discipline and persistence, making spectators feel vividly alive. 【导语】 本文是一篇说明文。文章阐述了人们喜爱观看体育赛事的多重原因,包括能获得强烈的共同情感体验、建立社群归属感、提升生活满意度与情绪,还能从中汲取自律和坚持的励志力量。 【解析】 1. 要点摘录 ①Sports compress the drama of life into a few exciting hours, offering joy, tension, relief, and sometimes heartbreak—all without lasting harm. Quality is not a trait typically linked with fast fashion, yet Uniqlo has earned a reputation for durability. In an era of throwaway clothing, its well-made, timeless pieces can feel like investments. From its city locations, Uniqlo is quietly reshaping American ideas about the relationship between quality, style, and status—one simple shirt at a time. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Uniqlo, a Japanese brand, has gained popularity in the U.S. by offering affordable, high-quality basics like jeans and down jackets. Use your own words as far as possible. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】The amount of time spent in meetings has increased significantly recently, which slows down creative or individual work.
