(25-26高一上·北京通州·期中)Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi for a living. One night at 2:30 AM, when I arrived to collect, the building was dark except for a single light on the ground floor. So I walked to the door and 2 . “Just a minute,” answered a frail, elderly voice. After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 80’s stood before me. By her side was a small suitcase. In the apartment all the furniture was covered with sheets.
“Would you carry my bag out to the car?” she said. I took the suitcase to the taxi, then returned to help the woman. She kept 3 me. “It’s nothing,” I told her. “I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother to be treated.”
When we got in the taxi, she gave me a/an 4 , and asked, “Could you drive through downtown?”

(25-26高一上·北京第三十五中学·期中)I’ve never been an athlete. Aside from excelling at all academic disciplines at school, my main goal was to 1 PE at all costs. In my twenties, I went for an occasional yoga or Zumba class, but that was really the summary of all my athletic accomplishments.
That was until the end of 2016, when I was unexpectedly 2 . The odds of getting a new job soon were not in my favor and 3 thoughts of not being good enough started to kick in. I was feeling quite depressed but pushed myself to go and cheer for the TCS NYC Marathon runners as the course was going through our neighborhood.
However, while being there, I got phenomenal 4 from all the runners, smiling, applauding and high-fiving constantly. Not a runner myself, I thought maybe I could give running a shot, just to try, to use my neglected gym membership and see where it 5 me. And so I tried. I went to my local gym the next morning and got on a treadmill. I was out of breath by minute five, but I slowed down, walked for a bit and then restarted. I came back the next day, hoping to 6 a few minutes longer. By the end of two weeks, I could run for 30 minutes, which was a huge success.
While I saw my body starting to look more toned, I also noticed my negative thoughts didn’t occur that 7 . And it sparked a thought — what if I could set a running goal and sign up for my first-ever race? I did and races sort of became a new hobby.
In the meantime, I was able to 8 a few freelance projects. They offered me a good income, and, most importantly, the time to work out for the big race. Also, when I was going for interviews, I started to feel very confident in my abilities, experience and skills.
I got my full-time job offer at my dream company just a couple of weeks before the half-marathon. Although I got an injury from over-training right before the race, I still went for it and still finished within my 9 time.

(25-26高一上·北京怀柔·期中)How Running Changed My Life
Running has truly changed my life, but I never understood running as a form of exercise.
During the first two weeks this year, my grandmother passed away and I started to 1 my job because of office politics. My life felt stuck. So I decided to run. It was my natural 2 . I just wanted to get away. I started running — by the time I came back, I felt tired and energised at the same time. I knew I was on to something.
Once in a while, I would get excited about running. However, I always picked up running for the 3 reasons. I used running as a reason to buy new fashionable sports clothes. Or I decided to run to lose weight or become healthier. My running never lasted longer than 2–3 weeks. I would lose interest in running. I just didn’t understand it. Why would anyone go through the 4 of running? Especially when the weather is bad. Who does that? I’d rather go to the gym with my friends, talk, and pick up some weights.
But I found that pain is 5 the reason I started to run again. When my life was not what I wanted it to be, I was upset. I decided to run when I arrived home one day after work. It was a cold January day, and I only ran for 3 miles in a time that I am too 6 to mention. But my time is not what’s important — during that run I finally got it.
My stamina (耐力) was nearly the same as my life at the time — it was bad, but I knew it would be better if I 7 running. If I would fight against the wind, rain, cold, and my thoughts of 8 , I would eventually improve my stamina and be a better runner. My life has improved at the same rate that my running pace and stamina has improved. But running has the most 9 on my productivity, mood, creativity, and overall livelihood.
Every time life became difficult I would give up. Now, when life is difficult, my response is 10 — I love the pain and struggle instead of shying away from it. My life is moving forward and I’m doing well in my job again. I owe this to running.
And the best thing about running is that it is easy to start. You just go. You decide when, where, and how fast.

I still have a long running journey ahead of me — I’d love to work on my speed, my technique and I dream of running a marathon outside of the US. Running gives me 10 that I can do anything I set my mind to.
