Take Zhao Wei, for example. He is extremely ____1____ and plans everything carefully, never missing a single deadline. His form teacher often speaks ____2____ of him in front of the whole class. He is also ____3____ about every subject he studies and keeps asking “why” about things that other people simply accept without question. Neither his parents nor his teachers ____4____ surprised when he won first prize in the city’s science competition last term. When asked what he wanted to be, Zhao Wei said he hoped to become an engineer or perhaps a scientist. However, his best friend Billy is quite different. Billy is very ____5____ with younger students and never gets angry, even when they ask the same question over and over again. Not only his classmates but also his form teacher ____6____ that Billy would make an excellent primary school teacher one day. As for Zhao Wei, he is determined to study hard and ____7____ his own dream, no matter how many difficulties lie ahead. He believes that personality plays an important part in choosing a suitable career. 1. A. curious B. energetic C. organized D. patient 2. A. wide B. highly C. high D. widely 3. The week began with a personality assessment (评估) taken by all 240 students. The results, studied by a team of career teachers, sorted students into six personality types: realistic, investigative (研究型的), artistic, social, enterprising (企业型的), and conventional (常规型的). “Many students had never thought about why some activities felt easy while others felt tiring,” said Ms. Tang, the school’s career teacher. “This test gave them a way to talk about those differences.” On Tuesday and Wednesday, people from twelve different jobs—including engineering, nursing, art design, computer programming, teaching, and accounting (会计)—visited the school to share their experiences. Students went to three forty-minute classes of their choice, where they could ask questions and try small tasks themselves. A computer engineer showed students how to build a simple app; a nurse showed how to take a patient’s blood pressure; an accountant showed how a company’s money is planned and recorded. The best part of the week was Thursday’s “Job Shadow” afternoon, when 180 students spent three hours at real workplaces around the city. Li Na, who said she was “quiet and careful with details,” shadowed a forensic (司法的) accountant and came back deeply interested. “I never imagined accounting could be like solving puzzles,” she said. “I always thought it was just about filling in forms.” Another student, Zhang Wei, had always thought he would become a doctor like his father. But after shadowing a paediatrician (儿科医生) for a day, he found that the job’s emotional demands left him feeling tired rather than happy. “I’m a quiet person,” he explained. “I need quiet time to get my energy back. I still want to help people, but maybe medical research would suit me better than seeing patients all day.” Friday ended with a reflection session. Students wrote short articles about what they had learned and how it might change their subject choices for senior high school. In a survey after the week, 87% of students said it helped them understand themselves better, and 72% said they were now considering jobs they had not known about before. The school plans to hold Career Exploration Week every year and is building an online library so students can keep exploring all year. “Personality is not fate,”Ms. Tang said at the end.“But knowing who you are—what makes you feel excited, what makes you feel tired, what makes you lose track of time—is the first step to making choices that truly fit you.” 26. What is the main purpose of Career Exploration Week? A. To help students choose their future careers immediately. B. To connect students’ personality traits to possible careers. C. To train students for specific jobs in twelve fields. D. To test whether students have the right personality for work. 27. What can be learned about the personality assessment? A. It helped students understand why tasks feel differently easy or hard. B. It divided students into twelve different career fields. C. It was designed and carried out by the students themselves. D. It showed that most students shared the same personality type. 28. Why does the author mention Li Na’s experience? A. To show that accounting is a better career than medicine. B. To prove that quiet students should all become accountants. C. To explain how forensic accounting differs from nursing. D. To illustrate (说明) how the Job Shadow changed a student’s view. 29. What did Zhang Wei discover about himself through the Job Shadow? A. He no longer wanted to help other people at all. B. Medical research was much easier than clinical medicine. C. The emotional demands of seeing patients left him tired. D. His father had been completely wrong about a career in medicine. 30. What does Ms. Tang mean by saying “Personality is not fate”? A. One’s personality does not fully decide what they can do. B. Personality tests are unreliable and should be ignored entirely. C. Students should choose careers regardless of their personality. D. Only extroverts can achieve real and lasting career success. 【答案】26. B 27. A 28. D 29. C 30. But knowing who you are ... is the first step to making choices that truly fit you.”可推知,唐老师这句话意味着性格并不完全决定一个人能做什么,但了解自己是做出合适选择的第一步。 B Like visible light, UV rays are energy waves released by the sun, only they cannot been seen. Some exposure (暴露) to those waves can do a body good. For example, ultraviolet B (UV-B) rays tell human skin to make vitamin D. Too much exposure can be harmful, though. Overexposure to UV rays can cause DNA problems, opening the door for skin cancer. Too much sun can also cause painful sunburns. There are three different types of UV energy waves. They are UV-A, UV-B and UV-C rays. Each type moves at a different wavelength, with UV-A’s being the longest. Rays of UV-C are considered especially harmful to human beings. Fortunately, we have the ozone (臭氧) layer of the Earth’s atmosphere. It blocks out nearly all of the UV-C rays and most of the UV-B ones. The moon doesn’t have much of an atmosphere, though. Back on the moon, things are more dangerous. Over the years, astronauts have planted six American flags on the moon. Some scientists think that powerful UV rays could have bleached all the colorful flags white by now. For this reason, the moon is a dangerous place to visit without protection. You might think that astronauts who visit the moon would come home with terrible sunburns. That didn’t happen to Armstrong and his company. Neil Armstrong was a U.S. astronaut and the first person to walk on the moon. These astronauts all wore special spacesuits on their missions. Spacesuits were made with heavy fabrics that block out UV rays. When Armstrong set foot on the lunar surface, he was wearing a see-through helmet (头盔) with sun shades that were made of ultraviolet-stabilized polycarbonate. It is a very tough plastic that protects astronauts’ faces from UV rays. A weaker material could put the space travelers at risk for “snow blindness” and other problems. Conditions like these arise when UV rays damage parts of the human eyes. Sunscreen (防晒霜) defends us from the UV rays that do pass through the ozone layer. However, there’s really no need for an astronaut to put on sunscreen. The risk of sunburn goes way down when astronauts are inside a spaceship. Inside the International Space Station (ISS), for example, there is no need for special suits. Astronauts regularly do their work in nothing but common cotton shirts and pants. To protect them from sunburns, the ISS uses UV-blocking windows. So do most space exploration ships. 31. From Paragraph 1, we can know ________ A. UV-B is harmful to our body B. vitamin D is good for our body C. UV rays cause DNA problems D. skin cancer is caused by the sun 32. The underlined word “bleach” in Paragraph 3 most probably means “_________”. A. 漂白 B. 伤害 C. 刺穿 D. 吹拂 33. Armstrong didn’t get bad sunburns mainly because _________. A. there was no UV-C ray on the moon B. the moon had an ozone layer like the earth C. he wore a special spacesuit and helmet D. he put on enough special sunscreen 34. According to the last paragraph, we can learn _________ A. sunscreen plays a great role in protecting astronauts in space B. astronauts have to do their work in special suits in the ISS C. UV-blocking windows are regularly used on spaceships D. the risk of sunburns increases when astronauts are in space 35. What’s the writer’s purpose of writing the passage? A. To show how astronauts are protected from UV rays. B. To introduce the first human who walked on the moon. C. To describe the new technology used in space. D. To show how we protect ourselves from sunburns. 【答案】31. B 32. A 33. C 34. C 35. Not only verbal (语言的) communication, we also use our bodies to help us better express our thoughts and feelings. This non-verbal communication is known as body language. Body language is made up of things like facial expressions (面部表情), eye contact and body movements. In fact, it came to be used as a form of communication before humans could speak or write. We can tell a lot about what a person is thinking or feeling just by looking at them. Body language is so widely used that you may not realize that you are sending many messages to others, though you haven’t said anything. For example, you might move your head from side to side to express the word “no” instead of saying the word. You might give a “thumbs up” to show that you like or agree with something. You might cross your fingers in the shape of a heart if you want to show love. But since we are spending more time online, we may not have as many face-to-face communications as before. Because of this, our ways of non-verbal communication have changed, but it is still an important way to show our thoughts. Our “digital (数字的) body language” is becoming increasingly important as we change how we communicate. For example, instead of using voice messages, you can video chat with your friends to show them your smiling face. Another way to express your feelings digitally is using emojis (表情符号). “When we are communicating online, we are only showing the content and leaving out voices and facial expressions,” Moitree Banerjee, a researcher at the University of Chichester in England, told Digital Trends. That’s why emojis can help much in communication. What body language is • It is a way of expressing our thoughts and feelings ____51____ using words. • It ____52____ facial expressions, eye contact and body movements. B Like visible light, UV rays are energy waves released by the sun, only they cannot been seen. 四、词汇(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) A) 根据句意及所给中文提示,写出句中所缺单词,每空限填一词。 36. Daniel is very ________ (谦虚的). He never shows off in front of others. 37.
