C
Growing up, students are repeatedly told that their actions and choices in high school will influence the rest of their lives, but to what degree is this actually the case? In fact, far more of the decisions made in high school matter and can decide the rest of one’s life than many may think, including one’s grades, behavior, friendships, and so on.
Failing to perform well in high school can influence students’ future by reducing their school choices for further education and even their chances of getting a good job in the future. Studies have shown that a student’s GPA (grade point average) is related to his future pay, with students who have a 4.0 GPA making more than $50,000 a year, while those with a 2.5 GPA or lower may not even break $40,000.
Yet, the importance of high school is beyond report cards. According to Erik Erikson, a developmental psychologist (心理学家), the events happening between the ages of 12 and 18 decide whether or not a person develops a full sense of self. During this stage, teens generally ask themselves “Who am I?”. They often identify themselves with certain types of music, books, etc., through which teens begin to discover themselves and their relationship with the world.
Social circles also play a role in shaping who you are. Schools offer a special environment in which students find themselves in one place for no reason other than age and where they live. Clearly, this provides students with experiences they couldn’t find anywhere else and allows them to develop good and real friendships.
Without a doubt, choices made in high school have effects that flash throughout one’s whole life. Therefore, high school students and their families must make sure that they have a good experience and a healthy environment for self-exploration. It is worth mentioning that while students need to concentrate mainly on their grades and behavior, they shouldn’t fall into the common trap (陷阱) of caring too much.
28. Why does the author mention students’ GPA in paragraph 2?
A. To stress the uncertainty of the future. B. To list the results of different subject choices.
C. To show the long-term effects of grades. D. To compare grading methods across schools.
29. Which can replace the underlined phrase “identify themselves with” in paragraph 3?
A. Stand out from. B. Think highly of. C. Keep away from. D. Feel a connection to.
30. What leads to close friendships during teenage years according to the text?
A. Common study goals. B. The similar age and location.
C. Shared hobbies and interests. D. The same family background.
31. What is the author’s suggestion for high school students?
A. Valuing parent-child relationships highly. B. Trying to become the top student in class.
C. Preparing for future jobs as early as possible. D. Balancing school grades with personal growth.
【答案】28. C 29. D 30. B 31. D
【解析】
【导语】这是一篇议论文。文章主要探讨了高中阶段的选择和行为(如成绩、社交、自我认知)对个人未来有深远影响,学生需平衡学业与个人成长。
【28题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“Failing to perform well in high school can influence students’ future by reducing their school choices for further education and even their chances of getting a good job in the future. Studies have shown that a student’s GPA (grade point average) is related to his future pay, with students who have a 4.0 GPA making more than $50,000 a year, while those with a 2.5 GPA or lower may not even break $40,000.(在高中表现不佳会影响学生的未来,因为这会减少他们继续接受教育的学校选择,甚至减少他们未来找到好工作的机会。研究表明,学生的平均绩点(GPA)与他未来的工资有关,GPA为4.0的学生每年的收入超过50000美元,而GPA为2.5或更低的学生甚至可能不会超过40000美元。 )”可知,作者提到学生的GPA是为了说明高中表现不佳会影响未来教育选择和就业机会,也就是说为了显示成绩的长远影响。故选C。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中“According to Erik Erikson, a developmental psychologist, the events happening between the ages of 12 and 18 decide whether or not a person develops a full sense of self. During this stage, teens generally ask themselves ‘Who am I?’. They often identify themselves with certain types of music, books, etc., through which teens begin to discover themselves and their relationship with the world.(根据发展心理学家埃里克·埃里克森的说法,12至18岁之间发生的事件决定了一个人是否发展出完整的自我意识。在这个阶段,青少年通常会问自己‘我是谁?’。他们经常_____某些类型的音乐、书籍等,通过这些,青少年开始发现自己以及他们与世界的关系。)”可知,青少年通过与音乐、书籍等建立连接探索“我是谁”,认同自我,进而发现自我与世界的关系。可推测,“identify themselves with”意为“认同自我,探索自我身份”,选项D“Feel a connection to(与…… 产生联结)”可替换画线单词,符合题意。故选D。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“Schools offer a special environment in which students find themselves in one place for no reason other than age and where they live. Clearly, this provides students with experiences they couldn’t find anywhere else and allows them to develop good and real friendships.(学校为学生提供了一个特殊的环境,使他们仅仅因为年龄和居住地相同就聚集在同一个地方。在这个环境中,学生们除了年龄和居住地外,没有其他原因。显然,这为学生提供了他们在其他任何地方都找不到的经验,并使他们能够建立良好而真正的友谊。)”可知,造成青少年时期的真挚友谊的原因在于相似的年龄和共同的居住地。故选B。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“It is worth mentioning that while students need to concentrate mainly on their grades and behavior, they shouldn’t fall into the common trap of caring too much.(值得一提的是,虽然学生需要主要关注自己的成绩和行为,但他们不应该陷入过于关心的常见陷阱。)”可知,作者的建议是:既重视学业,又需避免过度焦虑,保持健康的自我探索环境,平衡学业和自我成长。故选D。

A new study carried out among adolescents (青少年) in a high school theater program showed how to use positive emotions (情绪) to drive their work, Students also used strategies to manage their own and others’ bad emotions. The research was carried out through interviews with the students during a three-month theater program. This study showed how schools and programs can support the development of “emotional intelligence” in adolescents.
Researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign started open-ended interviews to get an in-depth understanding of one setting — a high school theater program. Ten teenagers were interviewed every two weeks over a three-month period while the theater group prepared a musical. Two adults who guided the production were also interviewed every two weeks. What’s more, the researchers observed the rehearsals (观察排练) weekly.
During the rehearsals, teenagers reported emotional experiences, including sadness, anger, anxiety, and excitement. The program provided a culture that helped them learn to deal well with the events and feelings connected to these different emotions, the researchers found. The adults led by example, helping the teens develop strategies to manage strong emotions.
The theater setting supported this process (过程) by putting the youth in situations in which emotions were likely to happen because the expectation of hard work created stress. Also, strong emotions were accepted and discussed openly with a culture of caring about others.
“The development of ‘emotional intelligence’ is important to adult work and family life, but many young people arrive in adulthood with incomplete emotional skills,” according to Reed W. Larson, the study’s lead author. “Our research findings suggest how, under the right conditions, adolescents learn these skills. Although further research is needed, youth programs, such as the theater program. along with schools that provide these conditions may lead to better emotional learning.”
32. What did the new study find?
A. Theater programs are popular among high schoolers.
B. Doing theater helps teenagers with emotional growth.
C. Emotional skills are important to student success.
D. High school teaching is a performing art.
33. How did the researchers get information for the study?
A. By holding interviews. B. By preparing a musical.
C. By teaching at the local school. D. By reviewing students’ performances.
34. What can we say about the adults in the theater program?
A. They experienced the same emotions as the teens.
B. They were close observers of the program.
C. They provided models for the students.
D. They were in control of the new study.
35. What is Reed W. Larson’s attitude towards the theater program?
A. Doubtful. B. Curious. C. Worried. D. Supportive.
【答案】32. B 33. A 34. C 35. D

A couple of days ago, there were many people on the bus. Halfway down the road, the driver suddenly stopped the bus by the side of the road and said, “I’m going to have dinner first. I’m hungry. ” Then he began to eat fried rice noodles while talking on the phone. After a while, many passengers urged (催促) the driver to go ahead, but the driver replied rudely, “Can’t you see I’m enjoying my noodles? I’m so hungry.”
After a few minutes someone wanted to get off the bus, but was refused by the driver. He explained that nobody could get off because it was NOT a bus stop! Standing beside the driver, I watched him have the last of the noodles, thinking that we could finally start now. However, the driver took out another bag of soup!
I began to feel a little angry because I would be late for an important meeting. So I urged the driver to hurry up. However, the driver suggested politely that I should ask for a leave.
When the soup was about to be finished, the driver picked up the phone again, looking in the rear-view mirror (后视镜) from time to time as if he were waiting for someone. At this time all the passengers on the bus began to shout, “We have waited too long. Start right now!” Suddenly, a police car stopped in front of our bus. We all thought that the policemen could help us and we could go at once.
Paragraph 1.
To our surprise, the two policemen got on our bus with handcuffs (手铐).

Paragraph 2.
Watching the thieves having been caught by the policemen, all the passengers smiled with delight.

【答案】To our surprise, the two policemen got on our bus with handcuffs (手铐). “Ladies and gentlemen, just now we received a call saying there are two thieves on the bus, and someone’s mobile phone has been stolen.” Only at that time did we realize that the driver had informed the policemen of the theft. Then the driver locked the doors of the bus, while the policemen checked the passengers one by one, and found out the two thieves! Finally, the thieves were arrested and taken away.
Watching the thieves having been caught by the policemen, all the passengers smiled with delight. Obviously none of us had ever seen such a scene before, and we all showed our admiration to the driver in silence. Minutes later, the driver looked at me and smiled, “Sorry for keeping you waiting for so long. Do you still consider me as a rude guy?” I shook my head and said loudly, “Absolutely not, you are my hero!”

I come from Cambridge, a beautiful city in the east of England. It is on the River Cam and has a population of about 120,000. My hometown is especially famous for its university. Many famous people studied here, such as Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin. There are lots of old buildings and churches to visit. Students and tourists enjoy trips along the river by boat.
Cambridge is about 99 kilometres from London. London is in the south of England and it is on the River Thames. It has a population of more than eight million, so it is bigger and busier than Cambridge. It is about 2,000 years old, and it is famous for the Elizabeth Tower, Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge.
England itself is part of an island, and you are always near the sea. The small villages and beaches on the coast are popular for holidays. Tourists like the areas of low mountains and beautiful lakes in the north, and the hills and pretty villages in the south. Everywhere in England, you will notice how green the countryside is.
It is never very hot in summer or very cold in winter. So come and see England any time of the year, but bring an umbrella with you. It rains a lot all year round. You will need it most days.
24. How many examples of famous people are mentioned in the passage?
A. One. B. Two.
C. Three. D. Four.
25. What can we know about Cambridge and London?
A. Cambridge is much busier than London.
B. London is 2,000 kilometres from Cambridge.
C. Cambridge has more famous buildings than London.
D. London has a much larger population than Cambridge.
26. What do tourists like about the south of England?
A. The churches.
B. The low mountains.
C. The pretty villages.
D. The beautiful lakes.
27. What’s the climate like in England?
A. Very hot in summer.
B. Very cold in winter.

A. Doubtful. B. Curious. C. Worried. D. Supportive.
