OUR COMMUNITY HEROES — SCHOOL EXHIBITION
The exhibition will be held in the school hall from December 2 to December 6. It tells the stories of people who make everyday life better. The subjects include a nurse, a road cleaner, a bus driver and a volunteer reading teacher.
Visitors can read short stories and listen to recordings. Each story includes one event that shows the person's qualities. We do not simply list prizes or say that someone is “great.” We explain what the person did and how others were helped.
Student guides will be available during the lunch break. Please ask before taking a close photograph of a person's picture. Do not copy personal information from the display or post it online without permission.
On December 4, two of the volunteers will answer students' questions from 4:00 to 4:40 p.m. Write your question on a card and put it in the box near the entrance before that morning. Questions should be about their work and experiences.
After your visit, write one action that you can take to help others. Leave it on the idea wall. Admiration becomes more meaningful when it encourages us to do something useful ourselves.
46. Where will the exhibition be held?
A. At a bus stop. B. In the school hall.
C. In a hospital. D. In a factory.
47. What does each story include?
A. Only the person's prize list. B. A shopping advertisement.
C. Every private detail. D. An event showing a person's qualities.
48. When can students meet two volunteers?
A. December 1. B. December 2 only.
C. December 4. D. December 6 only.
49. What should visitors do before posting personal information?
A. Change the person's age. B. Ask any stranger.
C. Copy it quickly. D. Get permission.
50. What does the idea wall encourage?
A. Comparing everyone's grades. B. Writing only famous names.
C. Choosing the most expensive gift. D. Turning admiration into helpful action.

Ms. Gao taught reading in our village. When I first joined her class, I read slowly and tried to hide at the back. Other students seemed to finish every page before me.
One day, she asked me to stay for five minutes. I expected criticism. Instead, she gave me a short story with large print and said, “Let's find one sentence you want to read.” We read it together. She waited when I stopped and never finished the words for me too quickly.
For several weeks, we practiced a little after class. She kept a small record of words I could read on my own. When I felt that nothing was changing, she showed me the first page and the latest one. I could see the difference.
Later, a younger student joined our group. He was nervous and quiet, just as I had been. Ms. Gao asked whether I would read with him. I remembered how her patience had helped me and agreed.
I still do not read faster than everyone else. But I no longer hide my book. Ms. Gao gave me more than reading practice. She showed me that careful attention can help someone believe in themselves. Now I try to pass that attention on.
51. Why did the writer hide at the back at first?
A. The writer felt embarrassed about slow reading.
B. The writer disliked every story.
C. The classroom had no chairs.
D. The teacher asked everyone to hide.
52. What did Ms. Gao do after class?
A. Read a chosen sentence with the writer. B. Finished every word for the writer.
C. Criticized the writer for an hour. D. Gave the writer a speed prize.
53. How did the record help?
A. It proved no change had happened. B. It replaced every lesson.
C. It showed the writer's progress. D. It ranked all village families.
54. Why did the writer agree to help the younger student?
A. The teacher promised a television.
B. The writer wanted to miss all lessons.
C. The writer remembered receiving patient help.
D. The younger student paid money.
55. Which quality of Ms. Gao is best supported?
A. Pride in being fastest. B. Patience.
C. Dishonesty. D. Carelessness.
C
In a school science project, Rui's team tried to find which material kept a cup of water warm longest. They wrapped cups in different materials and measured the temperature at regular times. All cups began with the same amount of water at the same temperature.
Their first results seemed exciting. One material appeared much better than the others. Rui wanted to announce it immediately, but her partner noticed that one cup stood beside a warm machine. The test was not fair.
Rui felt disappointed because they had spent the whole afternoon working. Still, she wrote down the problem instead of hiding it. The team moved all cups to the same table, away from the machine, and repeated the test the next day.
The difference between materials was smaller in the second test. Rui's report included both sets of results and explained why the first comparison was unreliable. Their teacher praised the honesty of the report.
Rui did not receive an award for a surprising discovery. She learned something about scientific character: being careful with evidence matters more than protecting a favorite answer. A person who can admit a mistake is better prepared to find out what is true.
56. What was the team testing?
A. Which student drank water fastest. B. Which material kept water warm longest.
C. Which cup had the prettiest color. D. Which machine made the most noise.
57. Why was the first test unfair?
A. The students wrote down results. B. One cup was beside a warm machine.
C. The team measured temperature. D. All cups had the same water amount.
58. What did Rui do after finding the problem?
A. Recorded it and repeated the test. B. Announced the first result as certain.
C. Hid it from everyone. D. Changed the numbers secretly.
59. Why did the teacher praise the report?
A. It contained the largest difference. B. It showed no failed attempt.
C. It claimed a world record. D. It honestly explained the unreliable first test.
60. What is the main lesson?
A. Mistakes must never be reported.
B. Honesty about evidence is part of scientific character.
C. One exciting result is enough.
D. A favorite answer should always be protected.
D
What makes someone a hero? We often think first of a famous name or a dramatic event. Yet useful work may be quiet, repeated and easy to overlook.
A road cleaner who arrives before sunrise helps a neighborhood begin the day. A volunteer who visits an older resident each week can reduce loneliness. A teacher who prepares carefully for one struggling learner may change that child's future. These people do not need to be famous for their actions to matter.
When we describe a person's qualities, we should connect our words with evidence. Instead of saying “She is kind” five times, tell one story about how she listened or helped. A specific action allows readers to understand the quality for themselves.
We should also avoid expecting heroes to be perfect. People can make mistakes and still do meaningful work. Admitting an error, learning and continuing responsibly may show strength too.
Admiration should not end with a poster. Ask what you can learn from the person and choose an action within your ability. Keeping a small promise or helping a classmate may be a beginning. Ordinary actions, repeated with care, can make a lasting difference.
61. What does the writer say about useful work?
A. It cannot be repeated. B. It matters only during a dramatic event.
C. It may be quiet and easy to overlook. D. It must always be famous.
62. Why are three ordinary workers mentioned?
A. To choose the most famous one. B. To compare their salaries.
C. To explain a new job market. D. To show different forms of meaningful help.
63. How should a writer describe a quality?
A. Avoid every real event. B. Use a specific action as evidence.
C. Repeat the same adjective many times. D. List only prizes.
64. What does the writer think about mistakes?
A. Mistakes should always be hidden.
B. Heroes can never make mistakes.
C. People can learn from them and continue responsibly.
D. A mistake removes all value from a person.
65. What does the last paragraph encourage?
A. Doing tasks beyond every ability. B. Only making larger posters.
C. Waiting to become famous first. D. Learning from heroes through useful action.

A Hero in My Daily Life
There is a person in my daily life whom I admire.
She is my neighbor, a volunteer who helps children read. Last month, a young boy found a story difficult and wanted to stop. She sat beside him, listened patiently and helped him read one sentence at a time. She did not hurry him or laugh at his mistakes. After several meetings, he became more confident. Her kindness shows me that small actions can change lives. I will join the reading group and try to give others the same patient attention.
写作思路:身份—具体事件—品质—自己的行动;who/whom从句须指代人物,避免只有空泛赞美。

M: Your story calls the worker patient. Can you give an example?
W: He explained the same machine to my grandfather three times without getting angry.
M: Put that in your article. It shows the quality clearly.
W: You're right. A real example is better than many general words.
第7段对话(第14、15题)
W: I want to volunteer, but I can only give one hour a week.
M: That can still help. The library needs people to put books in order on Wednesday.
W: I can do that after school.
M: Speak to the librarian first and keep your promise once you join.
第三节:听短文,填表格
Our class will make a wall display called People Who Help Us. Please choose one person from your daily life. Interview the person before Friday. You should ask about their work and one difficulty they have faced. Write a short story of about eighty words. Include one example that shows a good quality. You may add a photo with the person's permission. The display will be put up in the hall next week.
