A Person Who Has Influenced Me Most
The person who has influenced me most is my grandmother. She used to work as a teacher in a rural primary school for more than 40 years.
She never made much money, yet she helped hundreds of kids realize their dreams. She often says teaching means spreading hope rather than chasing fame. Even after retiring, she volunteers in the library and reads stories to children every weekend.
I learn patience, kindness and selflessness from her. She lets me know a valuable life lies in serving others.
Her spirit shapes my future choice. I hope to major in education in college and become a helpful teacher just like her.

Once upon a time, there lived a girl in ancient China named Mulan. Her father used to be a general who was too old and weak to fight, but not too old to teach her how to ride a horse and use a sword. Girls usually did not learn these skills at that time. But Mulan’s father believed everyone should know how to fight, even girls. And Mulan also believed that girls could be as brave as men.
One day, the emperor (皇帝) sent soldiers to Mulan’s village. Because war was coming, men were needed for the army. The military leader of the soldiers put up a list of names in the village square. Each name represented one man from each family.
Mulan saw her father’s name on the list. She knew her father couldn’t fight in a war. Mulan’s brother was a little child. There was only Mulan who could take her father’s place. But the army did not take girls as replacements for fighting men.

Imagine this. There’s an apple and a piece of cake on a table. Which one would you like? The delicious cake or the healthy apple? A bestseller, Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength, suggests that willpower (意志力) is the ability to make decisions that are better for us in the long term, rather than in the short term.
Here is a famous experiment in the book: the Marshmallow Test. From 1968 to 1970, Professor Walter Mischel tested the willpower of 600 four-year-olds to six-year-olds. In the experiment, each child was left alone in a room for fifteen minutes with a marshmallow (棉花糖) on a table in front of them. They were given two choices: they could either eat it or, if they waited fifteen minutes, they’d be given a second one(and then they could eat both).
So, what did the kids do? Well, as you can imagine, 70% ate the first marshmallow within the fifteen minutes. But the other 30% showed willpower—they controlled themselves and waited for the second marshmallow. But then Mischel discovered something really interesting. Twenty years later, he got in touch with the children, who, by then, were in their early twenties. And he found that those who had strong willpower were getting better marks at university and were more popular.
Willpower is like a muscle (肌肉), and the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets. So, if you do daily “self-control exercises”, such as making your bed or brushing your teeth, you’ll improve your overall willpower. And daily willpower exercises will help you with those bigger goals, such as studying for an exam or training for a marathon.
Be careful though. Just like any muscle, your “willpower muscle” can get tired. If you’ve had to do lots of things that require willpower, take a break or give yourself a treat. That way, you’ll build up your willpower again.
And one last thing, the writer mentions people who learn foreign languages usually have a lot of willpower. So, congratulations!
32.How does the writer start the text?
A.By offering advice. B.By giving an example.
C.By telling a story. D.By listing numbers.
33.How many children got two marshmallows in the Marshmallow Test from 1968 to 1970?
A.180. B.240. C.420. D.600.
34.What can we get from the text?
A.All the language learners usually have stronger willpower.
B.Willpower can’t be improved by doing some daily things.
C.Young kids don’t need to practise willpower like grown-ups.
D.People with strong willpower can achieve their goals more easily.
35.Which of the following would the writer probably agree with according to the text?
A.Practice makes perfect. B.East or west, home is best.
C.Where there is a will, there is a way. D.The early bird catches the worm.

Life is beautiful, but it is not always sweet. Everyone will face trouble, sadness or loss. The beauty of life does not mean we never meet difficulties. It means we can still find warmth and hope even in hard times.
Some people expect life to be perfect. When bad things happen, they feel disappointed and give up quickly. In fact, difficulties are also part of real life. They teach us to be braver and more patient.
Small actions can bring beauty even in terrible days. You may talk with your trusted friend, enjoy a warm drink, or keep doing your small hobbies. These little things cannot solve all your problems at once, but they can bring you comfort.
Remember: The beauty of life lies not in perfect conditions, but in our attitude towards life. It depends on whether we can love life and keep moving forward, no matter what comes to us.

A.We will never have any trouble.

Quietly, the next morning, before her father could report for duty, Mulan stole her father’s armor (盔甲). She dressed herself up as a man. The soldiers accepted “him” in her father’s place. Mulan was very careful and fought as bravely as other soldiers over the years. No one found that she was a girl. When the war was over, Mulan received a special award from the emperor for her courage. The emperor gave her a horse and a bag of treasure.
Her family greeted her with joy. Her brother was pleased with the gift of her military clothes. Mulan dressed once again in the clothes of a woman. That evening, Mulan and her family got together to watch the sunset.
Two of the men who had worked with Mulan in the war stopped by her home on their way home. When Mulan greeted them, they could not believe their eyes. One of them shouted, “Are you really Mulan?”

29.What does life’s beauty really mean in Paragraph One?
A.We will never have any trouble.
B.We can find hope even in hard times.
C.Everything in our life must be perfect.
D.We can stay away from sadness forever.
30.What can difficulties bring us according to the passage?
A.They make us give up all dreams.
B.They teach us to be braver and more patient.

D.They bring us lots of perfect conditions.
31.What is the main idea of the passage?

A.180. B.240. C.420.
