You can choose happiness no matter what circumstances (环境,情况,条件) you are in. You can choose to be happy no matter what challenges life brings you. Let the following simple strategies (策略) guide you back to your natural happy state (状态).
Make lemonade when life gives you lemons.
Besides happiness, trouble will also be part of life. It’s how you choose to react to your situations that make the difference. If you look at something hard enough, you’ll see the positive side of it.
Do what you love doing.
Do you have a lifelong dream or desire? If so, start working towards it. Taking baby steps towards a goal will help you feel like you’re accomplishing something. You’ll find drive and determination to reach that goal when it’s something you love doing.
Use one of your talents.
One reason why so many people are unhappy is that they’re not doing what they’re called to do with their God-given talents. Each of us has a purpose in life. You have natural talents to help you achieve your purpose, so use your talents effectively.
Call a friend who you know is positive and cheerful.
Talk about your feelings and listen to their advice. Usually, people allow themselves to go deeper and deeper into self-depression. The truth is that you don’t have to be sad. You can decide to be happy. You just have to make up your mind to do so.
Gratitude (感激,感谢) is the quickest cure for sadness.
When you focus on what’s wrong with your life, you forget to look at what’s right and good. Take a step back and reflect on your life. Do you have children or family to be thankful for? Yes, they may not be the person we’d like them to be, but imagine life without them. Now, be thankful that you have them in your life.
Let your feelings out on paper.
Often you’ll find that just getting your feelings down on paper will allow you to work through them, helping you feel better about yourself and your beautiful life!

When I was a high school student, I was faced with the world with the innocence (天真). I had always been attracted by the idea of learning a new language, but I had never truly understood the challenges involved. That was until one day, when I decided to take the risk and learn Spanish.
It all started when I visited my cousin in Spain, Watching her continuously communicate with locals in their native language, I was filled with envy Although I can speak English and a little French, I was still missing an important tool: a deep understanding of another major language.
So, I did what any determined teenager would do; I started to learn Spanish. I downloaded language-learning apps, bought textbooks, and even signed up for private classes. Actually, it was not easy. The grammar rules were different, the vocabulary unfamiliar, and the pronunciation challenging.
But I refused to give up. I spent hours listening to Spanish music and watching Spanish language movies. I role-played with my teacher, speaking aloud and making mistakes. These learning experiences sharpened my Spanish skills. Gradually, the language started to feel more natural. Months passed, and my hard work began to pay off. My Spanish improved, and I felt confident enough to try speaking it in real-life situations. The first time I ordered a meal in Spanish in a restaurant, I felt like an explorer conquering a new land.
Now, when I look back on that version of myself, I can’t help but feel proud, It might have taken months of hard work and late-night study sessions, but in the end, the journey was more than worth it. It has given me a deeper understanding of myself and the world around me.

B.To express the relationship between her hard work and the resulting improvement.
C.To emphasize the importance of learning Spanish.
D.To suggest that these are the only ways to learn English.
44.Which words can best describe the author?

C.Gifted and curious. D.Generous and easy-going.

通读全文,尤其是第三段“I start to learn Spanish. I downloaded language-learning apps, bought textbooks, and even signed up for private classes.(我开始学习西班牙语。我下载了语言学习应用程序,买了教科书,甚至报名参加了私人课程。)”可知,本文主要讲的是作者学习西班牙语的故事,可能出自一篇个人博客。故选D。

A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at a reunion and decided to visit their old university professor, now retired. During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints about stress in their work and lives.
Offering his guests hot chocolate, the professor went into the kitchen and returned with a large pot of hot chocolate and other things including cups-porcelain (瓷杯子), glass, crystal (水晶杯), some plain looking, some expensive, some elegant - - telling them to help themselves to the hot chocolate.
When they all had a cup of hot chocolate in hand, the professor said: “I notice that all the nice looking and expensive cups were taken, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. The cup that you’ re drinking from adds nothing to the quality of the hot chocolate. In most cases it is just more expensive, and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was hot chocolate, not the cup; but you consciously went for the best cups... And then you began eyeing each other’s cups. Now consider this: Life is the hot chocolate; your job, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life. The cup you have does not define, nor change the quality of life you have. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the hot chocolate we have. The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything that they have. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Thank the Lord for your blessings in 2024. And enjoy your hot chocolate in 2025!”
46.When did they decide to go to see their professor?
A.After the reunion. B.Before they graduated.
C.During the get-together. D.Just after the professor retired.
47.Why did the professor offer them different cups?
A.Because cups were not enough for everyone.
B.Because cups were beautiful.
C.Because hot chocolate should be contained in different cups.
D.Because the professor wanted to teach them something.
48.What caused the professor to say those words?
A.Their complaints. B.Their reunion.
C.Their visit. D.Their graduation.
49.What does the word “cup” in this passage refer to?
A.hot chocolate B.happy things in life
C.tools to hold and contain life D.Life
50.What is the purpose of the professor’s words?
A.To tell them life is not easy, so try their best to be happy.
B.To educate them that the happiest people don’t have the best of everything.
C.To use different cups to tell them they should try different things in life.
D.To wish them to be grateful to their life and make the best of everything that they have.
【答案】46.C 47.D 48.A 49.C 50.D
根据文章第一段“A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at a reunion and decided to visit their old university professor, now retired.(一群事业有成的毕业生在聚会上相聚,决定去拜访他们已退休的老大学教授。)”
根据文章第一段“During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints about stress in their work and lives.(在拜访期间,谈话转到了对工作和生活压力的抱怨上。)” 故选A。
根据文章第三段“Now consider this: Life is the hot chocolate; your job, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life.(现在考虑一下这个问题:生活是热巧克力;你们的工作、金钱和社会地位是杯子。它们只是承载生活的工具。)”可猜测,“cup”在此处指的是承载生活的工具。故选C。
50.推理判断题。根据文章第三段“The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything that they have. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Thank the Lord for your blessings in 2024. And enjoy your hot chocolate in 2025!(最幸福的人并不是拥有一切最好的东西。他们只是充分利用自己所拥有的一切。生活简朴。慷慨去爱。深切关怀。言语和善。感谢上帝在2024年赐予你们的祝福。并在2025年尽情享受你们的热巧克力!)”可知,教授的话的目的是祝愿他们感激自己的生活,并充分利用他们所拥有的一切。故选D。

“When I grow up, I want to be...”
Almost all of us have thought about, or been asked to think about, our future careers. Our answers may differ greatly. Even now your aspirations may have changed from when you were in primary school.
However, it seems career options aren’t only based on personal taste. In a survey carried out by teens, doctors, lawyers, and bankers were some of most popular careers that people said they hoped to follow. This is in line with a similar survey carried out in the U. K. in May 2011 by job website monster, co. uk, in which medicine was the top choice among U. K. teenagers aged between 13 and 17.
Medicine and law are two of the oldest and best known professions. Their prestige may come from the fact that doctors and lawyers are some of the most esteemed members of society and they make good money. Joining these high-profile professions is often seen as a sign of upward social, mobility.
It is equally unsurprising that banking is now one of the most common career choices. Youngsters worldwide think of banking and see the money rolling in. Wealth is increasingly becoming one of the most important indicators of a successful career. British young men list the U. K. tycoon Alan Sugar, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg as their top role models “for their wealth”. Just as Chinese teenagers see being a banker as a good and fun pathway to “wealth”.
However, not every child has the makings of doctor, lawyer, or banker. They are those who see fulfillment and happiness in other areas, and many teenagers dare to ink more individuality into their career options. As the Teens’ survey discovered, a variety of unconventional jobs — coffee shop owner, gourmet (美食家), waiter at a fast food restaurant — are among teenagers’ career choices. They can be equally interesting and rewarding jobs.
With every choice comes responsibility and challenge, and all career paths require specific education and training, you have to learn to balance optimism and confidence with being realistic about your particular talents and skills.
51.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Choosing a good job is very important. B.Careers in teenagers’ mind.
C.Teenagers in the U. K. like doctors. D.The choice of career needs challenge.
52.What is the top career choice among U. K. teenagers aged between 13 and 17 according to the article?
A.Bank. B.Law. C.Medicine. D.Education.
53.According to the article, all of the following are the benefits of being a doctor EXCEPT ________.
A.respect from others B.upward social mobility
C.high pay D.the oldest profession
54.What do youngsters think is increasingly becoming one of the most important indicators of a successful career?
A.Prestige. B.Fulfillment. C.Happiness. D.Wealth.
55.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.According to your particular talents and skills, you can choose your favorite career.
B.Specific education and training can help get a good job.
C.Whatever career you choose, you should balance optimism and confidence with being realistic about your particular talents and skills.
D.Responsibility is the most important when you choose a good job.

When my father was celebrating a milestone (里程碑) birthday, I pulled together a surprising gift that he would never forget.
On his 60th birthday , I had a fun idea: What if I could get the memories people had of him, put each one into an envelope (信封) — 60 in total — and have him open them, one by one, on his birthday? So I wrote an e-mail to family and friends, explaining my idea.
I sent the e-mail and waited. And then the replies started coming in and I was very, very astonished. There were so many memories, and they were all so lovely. They came from the 50s, 60s, 70s, from every decade (十年) between now and the day my dad was born. They came from my mother, my siblings, my grandma, my dad’s friends from high school, his sister, my dad’s first boss, a colleague at his first job, from people who hadn’t seen my dad in40 years, from people I myself hadn’t even informed. They typed them and handwrote them. They mailed them and e-mailed them.
The night before Dad’s birthday, my sister and I stayed up late to put the mails into envelopes.
The next morning, after breakfast and presents and cake, we gave the pile of envelopes to him. “Just one more thing for you,” we said.
It took him a long time to open them and read. Each one was a brief ticket to another time, a leap (跳跃) backward over years and decades. There was a lot of laughter and a few tears on his face.
I was kind of sad when the project of the memories about my father was over because it was great fun to collect these memories.
56.When did the author give her father a surprising gift? (no more than 5 words)
57.What does the underlined word “astonished” in paragraph 3 probably mean? (no more than 1 word)
58.Why did the author and her sister stay up late the night before their father’s birthday? (no more than 10 words)
59.How did the author’s father most probably feel when he read the mails? (no more than 2 words)
60.What do you think of the author’s gift, why? (no more than 25 words)
56.On his 60th birthday. 57.surprised/amazed/shocked 58.Because they needed to put the mails into envelopes. 59.moved/touched/excited/happy. 60.I think it’s a very touching and meaningful gift because it contains precious memories from different people.
根据文章第五段“The next morning, after breakfast and presents and cake, we gave the pile of envelopes to him. “Just one more thing for you,” we said.(第二天早上,吃完早餐、送完礼物和蛋糕后,我们把那叠信封交给了他。“再给你一样东西”我们说。)”可知,作者是在父亲60岁生日这天早上给了父亲一个惊喜的礼物。故答案为On his 60th birthday.
根据划线单词下文“There were so many memories, and they were all so lovely. They came from the 50s, 60s, 70s, from every decade (十年) between now and the day my dad was born. They came from my mother, my siblings, my grandma, my dad’s friends from high school, his sister, my dad’s first boss, a colleague at his first job, from people who hadn’t seen my dad in40 years, from people I myself hadn’t even informed.(有那么多的回忆,它们都那么可爱。他们来自50年代、60年代、70年代,从我父亲出生到现在的每十年。他们来自我的母亲,我的兄弟姐妹,我的祖母,我父亲高中时的朋友,他的妹妹,我父亲的第一个老板,他的第一份工作的同事,来自40年来没有见过我父亲的人,来自我自己甚至没有通知过的人。)”可知,作者收到的回复非常多,甚至有作者没有通知的人。由此可判断,划线单词的意思和“惊讶的”相似。故答案为surprised/amazed/shocked。
根据文章第四段“The night before Dad’s birthday, my sister and I stayed up late to put the mails into envelopes.(爸爸生日的前一天晚上,我和妹妹熬夜把邮件装进信封。)” Because they needed to put the mails into envelopes。
根据文章第六段“It took him a long time to open them and read. Each one was a brief ticket to another time, a leap (跳跃) backward over years and decades. There was a lot of laughter and a few tears in his face.(他花了很长时间才打开并阅读。每一次都是通往另一个时代的短暂门票,是数年乃至数十年的一次跳跃。他的脸上有很多笑声和几滴眼泪。)”可推测,作者的父亲读到这些邮件时,脸上有笑声和眼泪,由此可推测,作者的父亲此时非常感动,开心和兴奋。故答案为moved/touched/excited/happy。
I think it’s a very touching and meaningful gift because it contains precious memories from different people。

Dear Tom,
I am more than delighted to hear from you. I’m writing to talk about my feelings after entering high school for two months in reply to your last letter.
At first, I found it a little difficult to get used to the senior school life. The subjects we are learning are obviously more difficult. Besides, with endless homework to do, we almost have no time for exercise and other activities. Fortunately, the teachers and classmates are all helpful and kind. It is with their help that I have overcome my fear and made great progress. So my advice to high school students is to be patient and have trust in your teachers and classmates, who won’t disappoint you. High school is an important stage of life. In order to enter my favorite university, I must actively participate in extracurricular activities and prioritize effective time management.
How about your school life? Looking forward to your reply!

A.respect from others B.upward social mobility

54.What do youngsters think is increasingly becoming one of the most important indicators of a successful career?
