Well, let me give you advice on how to have a healthy relationship with your partners. 1 . Don’t hide things from them, and don’t lie. Don’t be afraid to say things that aren’t very flattering about yourself. Getting them to trust you is the most important element in any relationship. If there’s no trust, there’s nothing there. So please be honest and they will learn to open up to you. Give them respect. Now, respect isn’t just simply treating them nicely. There is a lot more to it. You have to learn to adjust to their liking. 2 . Don’t just think about yourself, but think about what your partners need out of it as well. 3 . Always be willing to help them and give them positivity at the time. Make them feel you are someone they can really count on and build a future with. This is an important step in a relationship. Your partner has to be able to depend on you when needed. Have a good sense of humor with them. Laughter is the key to happiness. Laugh a lot with them, and joke with them. Laughter may seem silly, but it’s the secret to a lot in life. It will keep the sparks alive. 4 Ensure the communication is good. This goes along with trust, but always communicate how you feel even if it’s something that upsets you. Instead of screaming, talk to them. 5 It’s important to communicate this to them, not to keep it bottled up. A.Show them your personality. B.Be an honest person with them. C.Make sure you are reliable to your partners. D.Laughter keeps the relationship strong and lasting. E.Don’t start to ignore them and make them feel unwanted. F.Basically, learn to study your partners’ moods, wants and needs. G.If they did something that made you unhappy, tell them about it in a respectful manner. Passage 2 When traveling, many find themselves in places where the local language is unfamiliar. Once, travelers relied on phrasebooks, but the spread of English has reduced this need. However, most people worldwide still don’t speak English. 1 Increasingly, travelers use free translation apps. These apps allow users to speak into their phones and receive spoken translations almost instantly, bridging language gaps effectively. 2 Google Translate, a well-known name, often makes mistakes. For instance, translating “my wife is gluten-free (不能吃面筋)” into French or Italian as “my wife is without gluten” misses the intended meaning: However, competitors offer better alternatives. 3 It offers no direct translations, but imitates a native speaker’s input. While AI tools make travel easier, some worry they discourage language learning. Douglas Hofstadter, a language expert, argues that relying on machines for communication robs people of meaningful experiences and accomplishments. However, others believe most people don’t need fluency for casual travel. 4 As AI translation gains popularity, people may divide into two groups: those eager to learn languages for cultural experience and mental challenge, and those who see it as unnecessary effort. This issue is particularly pressing for English speakers, as many schools in English-speaking countries reduce foreign language programs. 5 Direct communication, even if imperfect, brings up deeper connections than relying on technology. A.Yet, these tools aren’t perfect. B.And they prefer the convenience of AI. C.It is a paraphrase rather than a translation. D.Travel has long been a motivator for study. E.Despite this, the social significance of language remains. F.This leads them to rely on gestures, patience, or technology. G.ChatGPT stands out by creating natural-sounding paraphrases. Passage 3 Are school tests a challenge for you? Are you worried about getting through your next test? Here are some strategies that can help you. Don’t overthink it. If you spend too long thinking about a test, you can focus too much on the wrong things. For example: What if I fail? What if I miss the bus that day? 1 Instead, take a few deep breaths and start preparing calmly. 2 They can tell you how the test result reflects your learning progress. You may find that the result is just a step in your study journey, and it doesn’t define your overall ability. Maybe it won’t change much in your current situation, so there’s no need to be overly anxious. Teachers are experienced and can offer valuable advice tailored to your needs. Remember to check test details. Find out when a test will be and how long it will last and if the teacher has any requirements for the way you should write your answers on the test paper. 3 Knowing whether you need a calculator, extra paper, or a specific type of pen in advance will save you from last-minute troubles. This information also helps you plan your study time effectively. Revise if you want to. Some people choose to revise for tests. However, not everyone prefers to revise, and that is OK, too. If you do want to revise, design a workable schedule for your revision and stick to it. There are different ways to revise. You could create flash cards to test your knowledge of facts, ask a friend to test you on what you’ve both learnt, and explain what you’ve learnt to an adult to practice your explaining skills. 4 Get everything ready the night before so you feel organized, and remember to take a water bottle. On the day of the test, make sure you eat a healthy breakfast and allow plenty of time to reach school. Wish your friends good luck and be confident — you can do this! 5 A.These negative thoughts will only increase your stress and harm your performance. B.It’s a good idea to review your class notes regularly. C.Talk to your teachers if you really want to understand the significance of a test result. D.Different revision methods work for different people, so pick the one that suits you best. E.You should also think about joining a study group for better study results. F.Also, double-check the necessary test materials and equipment. G.These simple preparations will make you feel more relaxed and ready on test day. Passage 4 Saying no can be difficult for many people. 1 However, learning how to say no and feel good about it is an important skill. Here are some strategies for actually doing it in a way that leaves us feeling good about our decision. One of the most important aspects of saying no is being honest and direct in your communication. 2 Being honest and direct in your communication helps to avoid misunderstandings and ultimately leads to better relationships. Using “I” statements can help to take the focus off the other person’s request. For example, rather than saying “I can’t help you move this weekend, ”you might say, “I need to take some time for myself this weekend and won’t be able to help you move.” 3 4 For example, if a colleague asks you to take on an extra project, you might say, “I’m not able to take on this project right now, but I can provide support later.” Doing so helps to soften the blow of your no. Besides, it shows you’re still willing to help. Setting clear boundaries for yourself can make saying no much easier. 5 Additionally, it prevents overcommitting and helps maintain a healthy balance in your life. In conclusion, learning how to say no and feel good about it helps us protect our time and energy, prioritizes our own needs and desires, and maintains healthy boundaries. A.It can feel uncomfortable and even guilty. B.We can say no with confidence and peace of mind. C.It helps maintain our physical and emotional well-being. D.If you want to help, you can offer an alternative to the request. E.Rather than skirting around the issue, simply state your reasons. F.In this way, you can shift the focus onto your own needs and desires. G.Knowing your priorities and limits helps you confidently decline irrelevant requests. Passage 5 As an enthusiastic reader, I’ve always believed that the key to understanding the world lies in the pages of a book. 1 They introduce us to characters who feel as real as the people around us. This connection between readers and the text is what makes literature so powerful, and it’s why I value my personal library. It’s a collection that reflects my journey through the world of words. My library is not vast, but each book is carefully chosen. I have a mix of types in my collection, ranging from classic literature to contemporary fiction. 2 Each type offers a different perspective, a new way of looking at life. While some books challenge my thinking, others provide comfort. It’s important to have a balance. A well-organized library is like a well-balanced diet for the mind. Among my favourites are the works of Jane Austen and George Orwell. Austen's sharp observations on society and relationships are timeless. Her characters are imperfect yet charming. Orwell, on the other hand, offers a stark (冷峻的) view of the world. 3 Both authors, though different in style, have taught me invaluable lessons about humanity. 4 Biographies (传记) and life stories offer insights into the lives of extraordinary individuals. They remind us that greatness comes in many forms. Reading about the struggles and successes of others can be incredibly inspiring. It’s a reminder that we all have the potential to make a difference. These stories encourage me to reflect on my own life and what I wish to leave behind. My library is a reflection of who I am. It’s a sign of my love of learning and my desire to understand the world. Each book is a stepping stone on my journey of discovery. They are companions in loneliness and guides in times of uncertainty. 5 A.I also enjoy non-fiction. B.I believe in the power of variety. C.My library goes beyond a collection of books. D.His stories are a warning and a call to action. E.Through them, I continue to explore, to grow, and to dream. F.The stories we read shape our world view and broaden our minds. G.Historical fiction, in particular, holds a special place in my heart. Passage 6 Moving from middle to high school is a big step for all kids. It’s a time of new schoolwork, feelings, and meeting new friends. 1 It can be tough, but also a fun adventure! This article will share some tips to get ready for high school and make this big change easy and cool! 2 In high school, you need to be more independent in study. There might be fewer tasks, but they matter a lot. To manage your time well, you can make a calendar to see your days and write a list of things to do every day. Learn to say “no” to friends if you have to study. 3 Look for Extracurriculars to Join. One of the easiest ways to fit into your new school and make new friends is to participate in extracurricular activities like sports, clubs, volunteer opportunities, or the student government. By joining these, you can get ready for college, find friends who like the same things, and try new activities. It makes you feel like you’re part of the school and gives you a good group of friends to support you. 4 Learn Stress — Management Strategies. 5 It’s important to learn how to deal with stress so you can enjoy high school and do well later in life. If you feel stressed, go outside and take breaks to relax. Playing sports and eating good food to stay healthy can also be of great help. You can also talk to friends and family when you need help. Remember, it’s okay to ask for support when you’re feeling stressed. Embrace the journey of high school with an open mind and a positive spirit, for it’s not just a new chapter, but an adventure full of growth and unforgettable memories. A.Be More Independent in Study. B.There will be a lot to get used to. C.Practice Time-Management Skills. D.Finally, don’t forget to rest sometimes too! E.This can make your high school life much better! F.It’s an important change that requires some time-management skills. G.High school can be a big change and it’s normal to feel worried or stressed. Passage 7 Praising Your Toddler Properly Nothing delights a young child more than praise from his parents. But there can be right and wrong ways of praising children. 1 There are some basic guidelines to help make your praises to your little one loud and clear. ●Make it genuine. Well-meaning parents can repeat a mechanical “Good job!” many times a day without even realizing it. Your child can tell whether you really mean it! 2 Look at your child in their eyes and smile at him to be sure he can see how pleased you are. 3 Be sure the praise is about the child’s behavior, and not a comment on his character. When you say “You are good/bad”, this is a reflection on your child’s character, and he may feel it can’t be changed. Instead, say “Your behavior is good/bad” and it becomes something the child can choose to change. ●Never make it critical. Be sure not to mix praise with criticism. For example, if your son dresses himself, and you say, “Good job dressing yourself, but those clothes really don’t match,” the praise is lost. 4 Just walk into school and proudly tell the teacher “Sammy dressed himself today. Didn’t he do a great job?” and give a wink (递眼色). Your son will be proud and the kids won’t even notice! 5 Aside from the outcome in changing behavior, there is simply no greater reward than watching your child’s face light up when you praise him! A.Never over praise. B.Never make it about his character. C.Be sure your tone and voice communicate your delight. D.It sends a message that the child did not do a good enough job. E.Make it all about your child and not about your thoughts or feelings. F.Using praise to influence your child’s behaviors can be both effective and rewarding. G.Sometimes praise can actually do more harm than good. Passage 8 What’s the best way to make friends at a new school? Although it might feel overwhelming during your first few days at a new school, it’s easier to make friends than you might think. 1 . Just try to be inviting, smiling, and making eye contact, and people will naturally greet you. If you see someone you recognize from class, the basketball court, or the community, give a smile or say hi. Introduce yourself. 2 . Asking questions such as “What sports do you like to play?” or “Have you been here since kindergarten?” is a good way to begin a friendship. 3 . You can save someone a seat, say hi in the hall, or offer congratulations on a good test score. Even a simple compliment, such as “I like your backpack,” can go a long way toward making a friendship. You could join a sports team, engage in school activities, such as choir or theater, or form or join a study group. All are great ways to meet potential friends, establish common bonds, and get academic support. And guidance counselors can arrange for “buddies” with similar interests and the same classes to introduce new students to the campus the first few days of school. One more thing that you can do is to look for other people who are new to the school. 4 . At the very least, you’ll share the fact that you’re both in an unfamiliar environment. And if you are starting at a new school in start-up year, almost everyone is new! You can talk about your old school, your new school, your opinions, grades, teachers, and interests with a wide variety of people. 5 . A.Tell them your name and where you’re from. B.Soon, you’ll have more than one new friend. C.It’s always good to do something nice for someone. D.After-school activities are chock full of potential friends. E.You’ll discover you’re probably not the only new student. F.Making new friends at school might seem like a challenge. G.You can behave in a way to help yourself make good friends. Passage 9 I’ve never considered myself a brave person. When I was younger, if it was dark and I had to go outside alone to fetch something from the yard, I would run back inside like the hounds of hell were on my heels. Then before entering, I would act like nothing had happened. 1 For you see, I pretty much lived in fear. I was afraid of public speaking, afraid to sleep alone or to even be alone in a room by myself. And I would judge myself for being afraid. What I didn’t realize at the time is that even though I was afraid, I would never let anyone know it. 2 I’d fetch the ball from the yard, even though I was afraid of the dark. You see, I was more afraid of being viewed as a coward than of the fear itself. And so, I ended up doing those scary things without realizing that I was, in fact, being courageous for acting despite the fear. And now, I realize that by consistently choosing to face the fear and acting anyway, 3 For example, when I used to talk in public, my legs would literally shiver. 4 But when I got up to speak, I would do my best to hide my fear. Over time,I became known as a public speaker in my life. And so, this habit of doing what scared me despite the fear was one of the best habits I could have possibly formed, unconscious as it was. For you see, courage is not the absence of fear. It is not even the ability to overcome fear. It goes deeper than that. 5 A.And that’s just the start of it. B.My heartbeat would accelerate. C.I would do the things that scared me. D.To be courageous, one needs to be afraid. E.So courage and fear are similar to some extent. F.I became less and less afraid of doing those things over time. G.I would talk to people about my fear and seek their help. Passage 10 Tennis, basketball, soccer, swimming — these are examples of the hundreds, maybe thousands, of sports in the world. People in every country play some kind of athletic game. Why do people spend so much time and energy playing sports? 1 Good health is one big advantage to playing sports. 2 Scientists in Finland discovered that even between twins, the exercising one had more muscle, more energy, and healthier hearts and lungs. The one who did not play any sports had less energy and more fat. 3 Another reason is that they want to be social. People who play on a team become friends with their team members and meet players from different teams. Sports games become enjoyable social events, not just competitions. An additional reason for playing sports is that it makes people feel good. It does this in two interesting ways. First, playing sports makes people feel good about themselves. 4 Second, when we exercise, our brains produce chemicals that make us feel good. When people run around for two hours playing a basketball game, they often feel great even if they lose the game. There are a lot of other reasons why people play sports, but studies show that the biggest reason is enjoyment. When asked why they play sports, most people said they play because it’s fun. 5 Do you want to be healthy, socialize, feel good, and have fun? Play a sport. A.It takes time to find a fun sport. B.They don’t have to play — they want to play. C.Finishing a long race can make someone feel confident. D.It may be because playing sports has a lot of advantages. E.Good health is not the only reason that people play sports. F.Exercise can make people stronger and help them live longer lives. G.Sports allow people to realize the importance of physical and mental health. Passage 11 It is never too late to develop great study habits. However, starting making some changes is hard. Even if you want to do well enough in school and improve your grades, you’re probably having trouble getting started in the first place! 1 Plan your time carefully. Make a list of your weekly tasks. Make a schedule of your time. Then decide on good, regular time for studying. 2 , but it will make you more aware of how you spend your time Find a good place to study. Choose one place for your study area. It may be a desk or a chair at home or in the school library, but it should be comfortable and quiet. When you begin to work, you should be able to concentrate on the subject. Skim before you read. 3 . As you preview the material, you get some idea of the passage and how it is organized. 4 . Listening to what the teacher says in class means less work later. Taking notes helps you remember what the teacher says. Develop a good attitude to tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. 5 . Tests provide grades, but they also let you know that you need to spend more time studying. There are other skills that might help you with your study. Share with your classmates some of the skills you have found to be helpful. A.Study regularly B.Make good use of your time in class C.There are several ways that can help you D.Develop a positive attitude by setting realistic goals E.This weekly schedule may not solve all of your problems F.The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t worry too much about a test G.This means looking over a passage quickly before you begin to read it more carefully Passage 12 Have you ever embarrassed yourself in public and got laughed at? Say, have you accidentally knocked over the water when you were talking with someone? 1 And it’s okay — you should even have a laugh about them. 2 Most of us have insecurities, or feel bad about ourselves because of past misfortune. However, it’s normal to be imperfect. You should stop worrying about having to convince others of your worth or maintaining an ideal image of yourself. You should be honest with yourself about who you. are and accept yourself despite your weaknesses. You won’t be able to laugh at yourself without first accepting yourself. Being a little sceptical about yourself actually helps to promote your confidence. 3 And optimistic people tend to be more successful. This is because making fun of ourselves contributes to our mental health and helps lift our mood in the face of difficulties or embarrassment. More importantly, it helps us realize our own weaknesses so we know which areas to do better in. When you laugh at yourself, people will probably like you more because you’ re being real. While laughing at someone else may hurt their feelings even if you didn’t intend to, laughing at yourself does not — you might even bring a smile to their faces. 4 People actually appreciate it when you laugh at yourself. Laughing at yourself shows that you are being real about your imperfections. Just remember: it is human to make mistakes, and you have to accept yourself just as you are. 5 A.Think about some past mistakes you made. B.Don’t worry about losing respect from others. C.Chances are that we all have this kind of experience. D.Past experiences are perfect materials for good jokes. E.Laughing at yourself means accepting who you really are. F.Learn to laugh at yourself and you will be so much happier. G.Usually, people who are able to laugh at themselves are the optimistic ones. Passage 13 Research shows that playful teasing between parents and their children can be a way to strengthen relationships, bring up difficult topics, and just have fun. 1 Carol Bishop says, “You need to recognize if they are enjoying it,” There are also rules about what is okay and not okay to tease your child about. 2 Instead, tease kids about safe topics, like a messy room, or things that can be easily changed. Teasing should also be a two-way street. 3 If they go too far making fun of you, be sure not to blow up. Instead, help them to learn boundaries and what may hurt others. Teasing about a disappointing grade should only be used as a gentle reminder to study or do homework. It shouldn't be focused on the ability because that could make the situation worse. It’s not wrong to say to your child, “I'm disappointed that you got a C.” 4 You need to examine if there is a learning disability or maybe they are depressed or being bullied. From monsters under the bed to darkness and noises, fears that may seem silly to an adult may be very real to a child. 5 In fact, it could make them worse. Teasing a child who is frightened about something is not a way for them to expand their horizon—you need to make them feel secure. A.Kids often feel hurt when teased by others. B.Topics like appearance and weight are prohibited. C.You have to be willing to let your child tease you about things. D.But then you must work with them to figure out the cause. E.But parents need to recognize when teasing becomes hurtful. F.Laughing or teasing won't help them overcome their fears. G.Teasing a child about sports performance can cause a child to quit the sport. Passage 14 Most students seem to have considerable “test anxiety”. 1 If you do this, you will not be able to show what you are really able to accomplish. Here are some suggestions that you should consider. 2 Waiting until the night before a test to start studying is likely to increase your anxiety. Instead of waiting until the last minute, start studying as soon as a test is scheduled. With several days or even a week to prepare, you’ll feel more relaxed because you have plenty of time to learn the materials. Organize your materials It’s important to gather all of your materials, including your books, notes, and other studying tools before a big exam. Keeping them all in order and handy is a great way to make sure that you can reference and cross reference them. 3 Review your notes each night. Reviewing your notes daily will help you to organize the materials for yourself. Don’t expect that your understanding will come during the class. 4 You need to spend time thinking about the course outside of class. Get a good night’s sleep before the exam. Staying up too late the night before an exam is a bad idea, in general. If you do just one thing, this is it: get enough sleep the night before your exam. Sleep, particularly deep sleep, is critical to memory formation. Make it a practice to get a good night’s rest after any intense day of learning and studying. 5 A.Draw up a schedule. B.Learning simply doesn’t work that way. C.Leave yourself plenty of time for studying. D.Most students suffer mental illness when preparing for a test E.It will help your brain to keep as much information as possible after a good night’s sleep. F.Many talk themselves out of doing well before they even have the exam. G.This will also make your life a lot easier when you are buried in your studying. Passage 15 Daily Habits for Better Sleep Good sleep starts long before bedtime. Many of the things you do during the day will affect the quality of your sleep. 1 . Wake up at the same time every morning. Our bodies follow a daily circadian(昼夜的) rhythm, and waking up at different times throws it out of order. It is best to keep your wake-up time consistent 2 . The less you deviate(偏离)from your normal wake-up time, the better you’ll sleep. Get sunlight every morning. Exposure to sunlight serves an important purpose:It shuts down the release of melatonin(褪黑素),a hormone that promotes sleep. 3 ,it sends a signal to tell your brain to stop releasing the melatonin. Aim to get at least 15 minutes of sunlight as the first thing every morning. Work out regularly. The pandemic has led people to cut down on physical activity. 4 Studies have found that daily exercise, regardless of the type or intensity, helps people fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. According to the Sleep Foundation, people with chronic insomnia can fall asleep about 13 minutes faster and gain up to 20 extra minutes of sleep per night by starting an exercise routine. 5 Caffeine has a half-life of six to eight hours and a quarter-life of about 12 hours. That means that if you drink coffee at 4p.m., you’ll still have a quarter of the caffeine floating around in your brain at 4a.m. . Avoiding caffeine in the evening is a no-brainer. But ideally you should avoid caffeine after 2 p.m., so that your body has enough time to clear most of it from your system. A.When you step outside B.Cut off caffeine at 2p.m. C.When sunlight hits your eye D.Avoid caffeine in your daily life E.Don’t sleep in,even on weekends F.So try these sleep-promoting habits G.But exercise is the easiest way to improve sleep Passage 1 How to Keep a Relationship Healthy and Strong Are you new to experiencing relationships? 1.前文“When traveling, many find themselves in places where the local language is unfamiliar. Once, travelers relied on phrasebooks, but the spread of English has reduced this need. However, most people worldwide still don’t speak English.(旅行时,许多人发现自己在当地语言不熟悉的地方。曾经,旅行者依赖于常用语手册,但英语的传播减少了这种需求。然而,世界上大多数人仍然不会说英语)”提到“旅行时很多人会身处不熟悉当地语言的地方,虽然英语的传播减少了对常用语手册的依赖,但世界上大多数人仍不会说英语”。选项F“This leads them to rely on gestures, patience, or technology.(这导致他们依靠手势、耐心或技术)”中“this”指代前文人们身处陌生语言环境且多数人不会英语的情况,自然地引出后文人们使用免费翻译应用程序这一技术手段来解决问题。故选F。 2.前文“Increasingly, travelers use free translation apps. These apps allow users to speak into their phones and receive spoken translations almost instantly, bridging language gaps effectively.(越来越多的旅行者使用免费的翻译软件。 故选A。 3. G“ChatGPT stands out by creating natural - sounding paraphrases.(ChatGPT通过生成听起来自然的意译脱颖而出)”符合语境。“意译”与后文“模仿母语者输入”相呼应,且“脱颖而出”表明它是谷歌翻译竞争对手中的优秀代表。故选G。 4.前文“While AI tools make travel easier, some worry they discourage language learning. Douglas Hofstadter, a language expert, argues that relying on machines for communication robs people of meaningful experiences and accomplishments. However, others believe most people don’t need fluency for casual travel.(虽然人工智能工具让旅行变得更容易,但一些人担心它们会阻碍语言学习。语言专家Douglas Hofstadter认为,依赖机器进行交流剥夺了人们有意义的经历和成就。然而,另一些人认为,大多数人在休闲旅行时不需要流利的英语)”提到“一些人担心人工智能工具会阻碍语言学习,而另一些人认为大多数人在休闲旅行中不需要流利的语言能力”。选项B“And they prefer the convenience of AI.(而且他们更喜欢人工智能的便利)”中“他们”指代前文认为旅行中不需要流利语言能力的人,进一步说明了这些人的态度,即更倾向于使用人工智能翻译工具的便利。故选B。 5.前文“This issue is particularly pressing for English speakers, as many schools in English-speaking countries reduce foreign language programs.(这个问题对说英语的人来说尤其紧迫,因为许多英语国家的学校减少了外语课程)”提到“许多英语国家的学校减少了外语课程”,下文“Direct communication, even if imperfect, brings up deeper connections than relying on technology.(直接交流,即使不完美,也比依赖技术带来更深层次的联系)”强调“直接交流,即使不完美,也比依赖技术能带来更深入的联系”。 E“Despite this, the social significance of language remains.(尽管如此,语言的社会意义仍然存在)”符合语境。故选E。 Passage 3 Are school tests a challenge for you? 1.前文“If you spend too long thinking about a test, you can focus too much on the wrong things. For example: What if I fail? What if I miss the bus that day? (如果你花太多时间纠结考试,就可能把注意力过多地放在错误的事情上。比如:要是考砸了怎么办?要是考试当天错过公交车怎么办)”提到考试前过度思考的负面问题,后文“Instead, take a few deep breaths and start preparing calmly. (相反,你应该先做几个深呼吸,然后开始冷静地备考)”建议深呼吸并冷静准备,此处需指出过度思考的负面影响,因此A项“These negative thoughts will only increase your stress and harm your performance. (这些消极想法只会增加压力并影响你的表现)”符合语境,承接前文的担忧,引出后文的替代做法。故选A。 2.后文“They can tell you how the test result reflects your learning progress. You may find that the result is just a step in your study journey, and it doesn’t define your overall ability. (他们能告诉你考试成绩如何反映你的学习进度)”和“Teachers are experienced and can offer valuable advice tailored to your needs. (教师经验丰富,能根据你的具体需求提供有价值的建议)”提到教师可以帮助学生了解考试结果,提供建议,此处位于段首,是段落主旨句,应建议与教师沟通,因此C项“Talk to your teachers if you really want to understand the significance of a test result. (如果你真的想理解考试结果的意义,不妨和老师谈谈)”符合语境,契合后文内容,其中的your teachers是后文They指代的对象,故选C。 3.前文“Find out when a test will be and how long it will last and if the teacher has any requirements for the way you should write your answers on the test paper. (要弄清楚考试的时间、考试时长以及老师对答题方式是否有特殊要求)”提到检查考试细节,后文“Knowing whether you need a calculator, extra paper, or a specific type of pen in advance will save you from last-minute troubles. (提前确认是否需要携带计算器、备用纸张或特定类型的笔,能帮你避免临场出状况)”建议提前准备计算器等物品,此处需补充检查考试材料的建议,因此F项“Also, double-check the necessary test materials and equipment. (同时,再次确认考试所需的材料和工具)”符合语境,和前文是递进关系,后文是对其具体说明。故选F。 4.前文“There are different ways to revise. You could create flash cards to test your knowledge of facts, ask a friend to test you on what you’ve both learnt, and explain what you’ve learnt to an adult to practice your explaining skills. (复习方法多种多样。你可以制作知识卡片来检测对要点的掌握,找同学互相测试所学内容,或者向长辈讲解知识点来锻炼表达能力)”列举多种复习方法,此处位于段末,需对多种方法总结,因此D项“Different revision methods work for different people, so pick the one that suits you best. (复习方法因人而异,因此选择最适合你的)”符合语境,承接前文。故选D。 5.前文“Get everything ready the night before so you feel organized, and remember to take a water bottle. On the day of the test, make sure you eat a healthy breakfast and allow plenty of time to reach school. Wish your friends good luck and be confident — you can do this! (考前夜准备好所有物品,这样能让你有条不紊,别忘了带上水杯。考试当天,务必吃好营养早餐并提前充足时间到校。给伙伴们送上祝福,保持自信——你一定能行)”描述考前准备,此处位于段末,需点明这些准备的作用,因此G项“These simple preparations will make you feel more relaxed and ready on test day. (这些简单准备能让你在考试当天更放松、更从容)”符合语境,承接前文。故选G。 Passage 4 Saying no can be difficult for many people. 1.根据上文“Saying no can be difficult for many people. (对许多人来说,拒绝可能很难。)”可知,拒绝别人对许多人来说很难,结合下文的“ However, learning how to say no and feel good about it is an important skill.(然而,学会如何拒绝并对此感到坦然是一项重要的技能。)” A选项“It can feel uncomfortable and even guilty. (这可能会让人感到不舒服,甚至内疚。)”承接上文且与下文为转折关系uncomfortable and even guilty,符合语境difficult。故选A项。 2.根据上文“One of the most important aspects of saying no is being honest and direct in your communication. (拒绝最重要的一点是在沟通中诚实直接。)”可知,此段强调“诚实直接”的原则。E选项“Rather than skirting around the issue, simply state your reasons. (与其回避问题,不如直接说明你的理由。)”与本段的主题一致,其中的“Rather than skirting around”与“being honest and direct”形成对比,“state your reasons”具体阐释“直接沟通”的方式,符合语境。故选E项。 3.根据上文“Using ‘I’ statements can help to take the focus off the other person’s request. (使用“我”语句有助于将焦点从对方的请求上移开。)”及举例“For example, rather than saying “I can’t help you move this weekend, ”you might say, “I need to take some time for myself this weekend and won’t be able to help you move.” (例如,与其说 “这个周末我没法帮你搬家”,你可以说 “这个周末我需要给自己一些时间,所以没办法帮你搬家了”。)”可知,此段说明“我”语句的作用。F选项“In this way, you can shift the focus onto your own needs and desires. (通过这种方式,你可以将焦点转移到自己的需求和愿望上。)”中的“In this way”指代上文“使用‘我’语句”进一步阐述“我”语句的作用,符合语境shift the focus onto your own needs”解释其核心效果,与“take the focus off the other person’s request。故选F项。 4.此处为本段的主题句,根据下文“For example, if a colleague asks you to take on an extra project, you might say, “I’m not able to take on this project right now, but I can provide support later.” Doing so helps to soften the blow of your no. Besides, it shows you’re still willing to help.”(例如,如果一位同事请你承担一个额外的项目,你可以说:“我现在无法接手这个项目,但稍后可以提供支持。” D选项“If you want to help, you can offer an alternative to the request. (如果你想帮忙,可以提供一个替代请求的方案。)”中的“offer an alternative”直接概括例子中的应对方式,与下文的内容吻合,符合语境soften the blow of your no”(减轻拒绝的打击)与下文“shows you’re still willing to help”(表明你仍愿意帮忙)。故选D项。 5.根据上文“Setting clear boundaries for yourself can make saying no much easier. G选项“Knowing your priorities and limits helps you confidently decline irrelevant requests. 中的“Knowing your priorities and limits”具体说明“设定界限”的内涵,“confidently decline”呼应“make saying no much easier”,进一步阐述界限带来的积极效果。故选G项。 Passage 5 As an enthusiastic reader, I’ve always believed that the key to understanding the world lies in the pages of a book. 1.根据前文“As an enthusiastic reader, I’ve always believed that the key to understanding the world lies in the pages of a book.(作为一个热心的读者,我一直认为,了解世界的关键在于一本书的页面)”以及后文“They introduce us to characters who feel as real as the people around us. This connection between readers and the text is what makes literature so powerful, and it’s why I value my personal library.(他们向我们介绍了一些和我们周围的人一样真实的人物。 2.根据前文“I have a mix of types in my collection, ranging from classic literature to contemporary fiction.(我的藏书种类繁多,从古典文学到当代小说都有)”以及后文“Each type offers a different perspective, a new way of looking at life.(每种类型都提供了不同的视角,一种看待生活的新方式)”可知,这里是说不同类型的书教会我们不同的东西,所以B项“I believe in the power of variety.(我相信变化的力量)”承接上文,引出下文,符合文意。故选B项。 3.根据前文“Among my favourites are the works of Jane Austen and George Orwell. They remind us that greatness comes in many forms. Reading about the struggles and successes of others can be incredibly inspiring. It’s a reminder that we all have the potential to make a difference. These stories encourage me to reflect on my own life and what I wish to leave behind.(传记和生平故事提供了对非凡人物生活的洞见。 所以A项“I also enjoy non-fiction.(我也喜欢非小说类作品)”符合文意,为本段中心句。故选A项。 5.设空位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“My library is a reflection of who I am. It’s a sign of my love of learning and my desire to understand the world. Each book is a stepping stone on my journey of discovery. They are companions in loneliness and guides in times of uncertainty.(我的图书馆反映了我是什么样的人。 Passage 6 Moving from middle to high school is a big step for all kids. 1.空前“But there can be right and wrong ways of praising children.(但是表扬孩子的方式有对也有错。)”说明表扬孩子的方式有对有错,空格处应该继续陈述表扬出错的相关内容,G选项“Sometimes praise can actually do more harm than good.(有时候表扬实际上弊大于利。)” 2.空前“Well-meaning parents can repeat a mechanical “Good job!” many times a day without even realizing it.(好心的父母可能会在一天中无数次地重复着机械式的“干得好!”,而他们甚至都没有意识到这一点。)”是关于父母表扬时所说的话,空格处应该说表扬时说话的相关内容,C选项“Be sure your tone and voice communicate your delight.(确保你的语气和声音传达出你的喜悦。)” 3.空格处是本段主题句,由空后“Be sure the praise is about the child’s behavior, and not a comment on his character.(一定要表扬孩子的行为,而不是评价他的性格。)”可知,本段主要讲的是不要评价孩子的性格,B选项“Never make it about his character.(不要拿他的性格说事。)” 4.空前“For example, if your son dresses himself, and you say, “Good job dressing yourself, but those clothes really don’t match,” the praise is lost.(例如,如果你的儿子自己穿衣服,而你说:“你做得很好,但是你的衣服真的不匹配。” 举的一个表扬不恰当的例子,空格处应该说为什么这种表扬不恰当,D选项“It sends a message that the child did not do a good enough job.(它传递了一个信息,那就是孩子做得不够好。)” 5.空后“Aside from the outcome in changing behavior, there is simply no greater reward than watching your child’s face light up when you praise him!(除了改变行为的结果之外,当你表扬孩子时,没有什么比看着他脸上的笑容更大的奖励了!)”说明了表扬是有好处的,F选项“Using praise to influence your child’s behaviors can be both effective and rewarding.(用表扬来影响孩子的行为是既有效又有益的。)” F。 Passage 8 What’s the best way to make friends at a new school? 1.根据上一句“it’s easier to make friends than you might think.”(交朋友比你想象的要容易。)和下一句“Just try to be inviting, smiling, and making eye contact, and people will naturally greet you.”(只要试着表现得亲切、微笑、有眼神交流,人们就会很自然地和你打招呼。) G. You can behave in a way to help yourself make good friends.(你可以用一种方式帮助自己结交好朋友。) A. It’s always good to do something nice for someone.(为别人做点好事总是好的。) 4.根据上一句“One more thing that you can do is to look for other people who are new to the school.”(你可以做的另一件事是寻找其他新到学校的人。) E. You’ll discover you’re probably not the only new student.(你会发现你可能不是唯一的新学生。)体现了上一句中提到的寻找新学生的结果,承接上文;结合下一句“At the very least, you’ll share the fact that you’re both in an unfamiliar environment.”(至少,你们会分享这样一个事实:你们都处在一个不熟悉的环境中。) 5.根据上一句“You can talk about your old school, your new school, your opinions, grades, teachers, and interests with a wide variety of people.”(你可以和各种各样的人谈论你的旧学校、你的新学校、你的观点、成绩、老师和兴趣。),选项B. Soon, you’ll have more than one new friend.(很快,你就会有不只一个新朋友。) B。 Passage 9 I’ve never considered myself a brave person. 1.根据上文“Then before entering, I would act like nothing had happened.(然后在进去之前,我会装作什么都没发生过)”及下文“For you see, I pretty much lived in fear.(因为你知道,我几乎生活在恐惧中)”可知,第一段讲述了作者儿时害怕黑暗的事情,空后继续讲述其他的恐惧。由此可知,选项A项“And that’s just the start of it.(而这仅仅是开始)”能够承上启下,符合语境。故选A项。 2.根据上文“What I didn’t realize at the time is that even though I was afraid, I would never let anyone know it.(我当时没有意识到的是,尽管我很害怕,但我永远不会让任何人知道)”及下文“I’d fetch the ball from the yard, even though I was afraid of the dark.(尽管我怕黑,我还是要去院子里把球捡回来)”可知,空前说作者不会让别人知道自己害怕,空后举例说自己虽然害怕黑暗,仍然会到院子里捡球。由此可知,选项C项“I would do the things that scared me.(我会做那些让我害怕的事)”能够承上启下,符合语境。故选C项。 3.根据上文“And now, I realize that by consistently choosing to face the fear and acting anyway,(现在,我意识到,通过不断地选择面对恐惧和采取行动)”可知,此处应当是说明这种选择的结果,且空后举例说明了作者克服恐惧而成长。由此可知,选项F项“I became less and less afraid of doing those things over time.(随着时间的推移,我越来越不害怕做这些事情了)”能够承上启下,符合语境。故选F项。 4.根据上文“For example, when I used to talk in public, my legs would literally shiver.(例如,当我过去在公共场合讲话时,我的腿会真的发抖)”可知,此空讲述作者以前害怕时的状况。 根据上文“And so, this habit of doing what scared me despite the fear was one of the best habits I could have possibly formed, unconscious as it was. For you see, courage is not the absence of fear. It is not even the ability to overcome fear. It goes deeper than that.(所以,这种不顾恐惧去做让我害怕的事情的习惯是我可能养成的最好的习惯之一,尽管它是无意识的。 由此可知,选项D项“To be courageous, one needs to be afraid.(要有勇气,就得先害怕)”为全文的总结,说明恐惧和勇气的关系,进一步说明两者的关系。故选D项。 Passage 10 Tennis, basketball, soccer, swimming — these are examples of the hundreds, maybe thousands, of sports in the world. 2.由上文“Make a schedule of your time. Then decide on good, regular time for studying. (制定时间计划表,然后确定固定的学习时间)”可知,本空与“时间计划表”相关;由下文“but it will make you more aware of how you spend your time (但它会让你更清楚自己如何分配时间)”的转折关系可知,前半句应说明计划表的局限性,E选项“This weekly schedule may not solve all of your problems (这份周计划表可能无法解决你所有的问题)”符合逻辑。故选E。 3.由上文“Skim before you read.(阅读前先略读)”可知,本空要解释“略读”的含义,G选项“This means looking over a passage quickly before you begin to read it more carefully(这意味着在你开始更仔细地阅读一篇文章之前,先快速浏览一遍)”符合语境,其中“looking over a passage quickly”与“Skim”相对应。故选G。 4.由下文“Listening to what the teacher says in class means less work later. 1.根据前文“Have you ever embarrassed yourself in public and got laughed at? Say, have you accidentally knocked over the water when you were talking with someone?(你是否曾在公共场合尴尬而被嘲笑? 以及下文“And it’s okay — you should even have a laugh about them. C“Chances are that we all have this kind of experience.(很可能我们都有这样的经历)符合上下文语境。故选C。 2. 根据下文“Most of us have insecurities, or feel bad about ourselves because of past misfortune. However, it’s normal to be imperfect. You should stop worrying about having to convince others of your worth or maintaining an ideal image of yourself. You should be honest with yourself about who you are and accept yourself despite your weaknesses.(我们大多数人都有不安全感,或者因为过去的不幸而对自己感觉不好。然而,不完美是正常的。你不应该再为说服别人相信你的价值或维持自己的理想形象而烦恼。你应该诚实地面对自己。尽管你有弱点,你还是要接受自己)”可知,本段主要讲的是接受不完美的自己。由此可知,选项E“Laughing at yourself means accepting who you really are.(嘲笑自己意味着接受真实的自己)”适合作本段标题,符合本段主旨。故选E。 3.根据下文“And optimistic people tend to be more successful. This is because making fun of ourselves contributes to our mental health and helps lift our mood in the face of difficulties or embarrassment.(乐观的人往往更成功。这是因为自嘲有助于我们的心理健康,并帮助我们在面对困难或尴尬时提升情绪)”可知,此处解释了为什么乐观的人更容易成功,说明空处和乐观有关系。由此可知,选项G“Usually, people who are able to laugh at themselves are the optimistic ones.(通常,能够自嘲的人都是乐观的人)”与下文一致。故选G。 4.根据上文“While laughing at someone else may hurt their feelings even if you didn’t intend to, laughing at yourself does not — you might even bring a smile to their faces.(嘲笑别人可能会伤害他们的感情,即使你不是故意的,但嘲笑自己不会——你甚至可能会让他们微笑)”及下文“People actually appreciate it when you laugh at yourself. 【答案】1.E 2.B 3.C 4.D 5.F 【分析】这是一篇说明文。研究表明,父母和他们的孩子之间的玩笑可以是一种加强关系的方式,提出困难的话题,为了有乐趣。文章就家长和孩子该如何开玩笑提出了一些建议和注意事项。 1.根据后文Carol Bishop says, “You need to recognize if they are enjoying it,”可知Carol Bishop说:“你需要认识到他们是否喜欢这样做。”由此可知,家长可以和孩子开玩笑,但是也要认识到孩子是不是喜欢取笑自己,当开玩笑变成一个恶意的取笑这是有害的。故E选项“但当取笑变得有害时,父母需要认识到这一点”符合上下文语境,故选E。 2.根据上文There are also rules about what is okay and not okay to tease your child about.可知还有一些规则是关于什么可以,什么不可以取笑你的孩子。由此可知,本句应当说明哪些话题是禁止拿来开玩笑的。故B选项“禁止使用外貌和体重之类的主题”符合上下文语境,故选B。 3.根据后文If they go too far making fun of you, be sure not to blow up. Instead, help them to learn boundaries and what may hurt others.可知如果他们取笑你太过分,一定不要发脾气。相反,帮助他们学会界限,知道什么会伤害到别人。由此可知,家长必须先学会愿意让孩子取笑自己,再从中进行帮助孩子学会什么会伤害到别人。故C选项“你必须愿意让你的孩子取笑你”符合上下文语境,故选C。 4.根据后文You need to examine if there is a learning disability or maybe they are depressed or being bullied.可知你需要检查他们是否有学习障碍,或者他们是否抑郁,是否被欺负。由此可知,当孩子学习不好时,家长应当和他们一起找出原因。后文是在列举问题的来源。故D选项“但你必须和他们一起找出原因”符合上下文语境,故选D。 5.根据后文In fact, it could make them worse.可知事实上,这可能会让情况变得更糟。由此可知,本句是在说明取笑孩子害怕的东西并不会帮助孩子克服这些恐惧,反而会让情况变得更糟。故F选项“笑或逗弄不会帮助他们克服恐惧”符合上下文语境,故选F。 Passage 14 Most students seem to have considerable “test anxiety”. 【答案】1.F 2.C 3.G 4.B 5.E 【导语】本文为说明文。本文讲述了如何来应对考试焦虑症,如:留有足够的时间学习,组织好学习用品,每天晚上复习笔记和考试前休息好。 1.设空处前句“Most students seem to have considerable “test anxiety”. (大多数学生似乎都有相当大的“考试焦虑”。)”提到大多数学生有很严重的“考试焦虑症”,下句“If you do this, you will not be able to show what you are really able to accomplish. Here are some suggestions that you should consider.(如果你这样做了,你将无法展示你真正能够完成的事情。这里有一些你应该考虑的建议。)”因此推断空格处对上句作进一步解释,F项“许多学生甚至在考试前就说服自己会做得不好”符合语境,下文讲述这种情况导致的结果,如果这样的话,你将不可能展示出自己真正能够做到的,故答案为F项。 2.空处为段落标题。根据下文“With several days or even a week to prepare, you'll feel more relaxed because you have plenty of time to learn the material(用好几天甚至一个星期来准备,你会感到放松,因为你有足够的时间学习材料)可知,本段提出考试前不要临时抱佛脚,而要提前几天或一周做准备,C项“留有足够的时间学习”为最佳标题,故选C项。 3.空前“It’s important to gather all of your materials, including your books, notes, and other studying tools before a big exam.Keeping them all in order and handy is a great way to make sure that you can reference and cross-reference them(在大考前收集好所有的材料,包括你的书、笔记和其他学习工具是重要的。保持它们的有序和方便是确保你可以参考和便用它们的一个很好的方法)说明考试前要做好准备,G项“这也会让你的繁重的学习生活变得轻松多了”符合语境,说明整理好材料的好处,故选G项。 4.空格前“Don’t expect that your understanding will come during the class.(不要指望课上时间你能理解所有内容)”说明上课时不能理解所有内容,空格后“You need to spend time thinking about the course outside of class.(你需要在课外花时间去思考课程)”强调需要在课堂外花时间思考,可推断空格处为B项“仅是用这种方式学习是没用的”,承上启下,that way指代上文提到的在课堂上学习。故选B项。 5.根据前文“Sleep,particularly deep sleep,is critical for memory formation. Make it a practice to get a good night’s rest after any intense day of learning and studying.(睡眠,特别是深度睡眠,是记忆形成的关键。在一天紧张的学习之后,要养成晚上好好休息的习惯。)可知,睡眠对于学习是重要的,E项“它可以帮助你的大脑尽可能多地保留信息”符合语境,强调考前要保持充足的睡眠,并介绍这样做的好处,故选E项。 Passage 15 Daily Habits for Better Sleep Good sleep starts long before bedtime. C.When sunlight hits your eye D.Avoid caffeine in your daily life E.Don’t sleep in,even on weekends F.So try these sleep-promoting habits G.But exercise is the easiest way to improve sleep 【答案】1.F 2.E 3.C 4.G 5.B 【分析】本文为一篇说明文。文章介绍了四种有助于睡眠的活动:每天早上在同一时间醒来;每天早上晒晒太阳;定期锻炼;下午2点停止摄入咖啡因。 1.上文“Many of the things you do during the day will affect the quality of your sleep(你白天做的很多事情都会影响你的睡眠质量)”结合下文提到的四个活动可知,空处句子应起到承上启下的作用。F项“So try these sleep-promoting habits (所以试试这些促进睡眠的习惯吧)”符合语境。故选F项。 2.本段中心句为“Wake up at the same time every morning.(每天早上在同一时间醒来)”,根据上文“It is best to keep your wake-up time consistent (最好保持起床时间一致)”可知,无论哪天都要保持起床时间一致,包括周末;E项“Don't sleep in,even on weekends(不要睡懒觉,即使是在周末)”符合语境。故选E项。 3.本段中心句为“Get sunlight every morning.(每天早上晒晒太阳)”,根据上文“Exposure to sunlight serves an important purpose:It shuts down the release of melatonin(褪黑素),a hormone that promotes sleep (暴露在阳光下有一个重要的意义:它关闭释放褪黑素的释放,它是一种促进睡眠的激素)”,和下文“it sends a signal to tell your brain to stop releasing the melatonin.(它会发出一个信号,告诉你的大脑停止释放褪黑激素)”可知,空处内容与阳光对我们的影响有关。C项“When sunlight hits your eye (当阳光照射你的眼睛)”复合语境,sunlight是关键词。故选C项。 4.根据本段中心句“Work out regularly(定期锻炼)”可知,本段话题为“锻炼”。下文“Studies have found that daily exercise, regardless of the type or intensity, helps people fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. (研究发现,无论运动的类型或强度如何,每天的运动都能帮助人们更快地入睡,保持更长时间的睡眠)”推知,下文陈述锻炼的好处。G项“But exercise is the easiest way to improve sleep(但是锻炼是改善睡眠最简单的方法)”符合语境。故选G项。 5.此处考查段落中心句。根据本段最后一句“But ideally you should avoid caffeine after 2 p.m., so that your body has enough time to clear most of it from your system.(但理想情况下,你应该在下午2点后避免咖啡因,这样你的身体就有足够的时间将大部分咖啡因从你的系统中清除)”可知,本段建议下午2点后避免咖啡因,B项“Cut off caffeine at 2p.m.(下午2点停止摄入咖啡因)”符合题意。故选B项。 试卷第1页,共3页 试卷第1页,共3页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
