You mean dividing the students into groups to do research? I've never thought of this before. How does that work? Professor Simons has already demonstrated how efficient this approach can be. Basically, he aims to increase CoOperation between students and help them develop their own voice and perspective. Well, check out the book as soon as possible. I was a shy and nervous boy when Mother attempted to give me courage. Among my earliest memories are her words, “Go right up and look your fears in the face — and then do something!” To help me overcome my fear of the dark, Mother invented a game for us to play. She ran around the house in one direction, I in the other. At the far corner, I would run straight into her comforting arms. Soon, I was joyfully facing the dark alone for as long as my parents would let me stay outdoors.
Her lesson of facing fear bravely has stayed with me ever since. I remember clearly my first job of taking pictures for an airline (航空公司) over the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. We were in a wilderness where clouds hid the highest mountains, driving the pilot to direct the way by guess. Turbulence (湍流) increased by the moment, throwing the plane about like a chip in the sea. It was a struggle just to keep my heavy camera, which I was holding tightly, from flying up and hitting me in the face. But my real worry was the growing fear that we would not get out alive.
Then Mother’s advice came to mind. “Get your work done,” I said seriously to myself. Below us, Lake Lure was occasionally visible, then hiding itself in clouds. Perhaps my pictures would be made unclear beyond recognition by the shaking camera. However, I stretched as far out as my ropes would allow and, for the next several minutes, whenever the plane broke through into a clearing I took a shot. I became so completely lost in the beauty that by the time we flew out of the mountains I was truly sorry we had to go.
At that moment, I fully understood Mother’s words: “Go right up and look your fears in the face — and then do something!” Her timeless wisdom saw me through this dangerous situation.
24.Why did the author recall his childhood experience?
A.To state his fear of dark. B.To show his mother’s wisdom.
C.To establish his mother’s authority. D.To stress his efforts to run fast.
25.What forced the pilot to guess the way?
A.The increasing turbulence. B.The frozen wilderness.
C.The camera hitting the face. D.The clouds covering mountaintops.
26.Why did the author feel sorry when leaving the mountains?
A.He wanted to stay with the pilot longer. B.The weather became too bad.
C.He was deeply attracted by the scenery. D.The mountains became very clear.
27.Which of the following best describes his mother?
A.Brave and strict. B.Wise and inspiring. C.Caring and humorous. D.Confident and outgoing.
根据第一段“Among my earliest memories are her words, ‘Go right up and look your fears in the face — and then do something!’ To help me overcome my fear of the dark, Mother invented a game for us to play.(我最早的记忆里就有她这句话:‘径直上前直面恐惧,然后付诸行动!’为了帮我克服对黑暗的恐惧,妈妈设计了一个我们一起玩的游戏。)”以及最后一段“At that moment, I fully understood Mother’s words: ‘Go right up and look your fears in the face — and then do something!’ Her timeless wisdom saw me through this dangerous situation.(那一刻,我彻底读懂了母亲的话:‘径直上前直面恐惧,然后付诸行动!’她恒久不变的智慧帮我渡过了这次险境。)”可知,作者回忆童年经历是为了展现母亲的人生智慧。
25.细节理解题。根据第二段“We were in a wilderness where clouds hid the highest mountains, driving the pilot to direct the way by guess.(我们身处一片荒野,云层遮蔽了最高的山峰,迫使飞行员只能靠猜测辨别航向。)”
根据第三段“I became so completely lost in the beauty that by the time we flew out of the mountains I was truly sorry we had to go.(我完全沉醉在这片美景之中,当飞机飞出这片山区时,我由衷地为我们不得不离开而感到惋惜。)”
根据第一段“Among my earliest memories are her words, ‘Go right up and look your fears in the face — and then do something!’ To help me overcome my fear of the dark, Mother invented a game for us to play.(我最早的记忆里就有她这句话:‘径直上前直面恐惧,然后付诸行动!’为了帮我克服对黑暗的恐惧,妈妈设计了一个我们一起玩的游戏。)”和最后一段“At that moment, I fully understood Mother’s words: ‘Go right up and look your fears in the face — and then do something!’ Her timeless wisdom saw me through this dangerous situation.(那一刻,我彻底读懂了母亲的话:‘径直上前直面恐惧,然后付诸行动!’她恒久不变的智慧帮我渡过了这次险境。)”可知,母亲用巧妙的方式开导孩子、传授人生道理,言语极具激励性,富有智慧且鼓舞人心。

Many of the existing efforts to protect species across the United States depend on information about where these species currently live. But as climate change changes the existing conditions, most animals and plants will need to move to cooler or more suitable environments to survive. How does this influence efforts to protect biodiversity?
A new study has found that many species of animals and plants will likely need to move under climate change and that conservation (保护) efforts will also need to change to be effective. “We are going to need to protect different places if we want to protect biodiversity in the future,” said lead author Joshua Lawler. “We need to think about where species will go as the climate changes, and then plan for that. The business-as-usual planning process is not viable.”
The research team found that unless climate change influences are considered directly, 14% of species would not have a suitable place to live under climate change. This is because current protections focus on where species are today, not where they will need to be in the future as temperatures warm.
With climate change advancing, there’s a pressing need to develop plans and carry them out, protecting important landscapes, the researchers said.
“Climate change effects that were originally projected to be many years in the future are starting to become observable in the present day,” said co-author John Withey. “We need to take action as soon as possible, thinking about where species may need to go under climate change, and providing corridors (通道) through which they can move.”
The authors hope this study will be helpful for land conservation organizations to determine which areas should be considered key for conservation. While their study points out parts of the country that will need more conservation attention under climate change, they warn that the paper isn’t meant to help determine specific new parks to protect.
“This paper is pointing out that we might be missing opportunities or places where conservation is going to be needed in the face of climate change,” Withey said. “Another hope is that we can start determining which places would protect species and would allow species to move without increasing our costs too much.”
28.What does the underlined word “viable” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Possible. B.Avoidable. C.Workable. D.Challenging.
29.What is the problem with current protections?
A.They only consider present species locations. B.They lack support from the government.
C.They do not include enough species. D.They are too costly to manage.
30.What do the authors of the study hope to achieve?
A.Developing specific new parks. B.Reducing the cost of conservation.
C.Guiding future conservation work. D.Drawing attention to climate change.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.Adapting conservation measures to climate change B.Great influences of climate change on species
C.New challenges in biodiversity conservation D.Exploring conservation efforts in the US
【答案】28.C 29.A 30.C 31.A

根据第二段中““We are going to need to protect different places if we want to protect biodiversity in the future,” said lead author Joshua Lawler. “We need to think about where species will go as the climate changes, and then plan for that. The business-as-usual planning process is not viable.”(主要作者约书亚·劳勒说:“如果我们想在未来保护生物多样性,就需要保护不同的地方。我们需要考虑物种在气候变化时会去哪里,并据此制定计划。这种按部就班的规划流程是不viable。”)”可知,Lawler指出未来的保护工作需关注物种未来的栖息地,按部就班的常规规划行不通了。由此推知,viable意为“可行的,能奏效的”。
29.细节理解题。根据第三段中“This is because current protections focus on where species are today, not where they will need to be in the future as temperatures warm.(这是因为目前的保护措施关注的是物种当下的所在地,而非随着气温升高它们在未来需要去往的地方)”可知,当前保护措施的问题在于仅考虑了物种目前的分布位置,忽视了其未来的迁徙需求。
根据倒数第二段中“The authors hope this study will be helpful for land conservation organizations to determine which areas should be considered key for conservation.(作者希望这项研究能帮助土地保护组织确定哪些区域应被视为保护重点)”以及最后一段中“Another hope is that we can start determining which places would protect species and would allow species to move without increasing our costs too much.(另一个希望是,我们可以开始确定哪些地方可以保护物种,并允许物种在不增加太多成本的情况下迁徙)”可知,作者希望通过研究结果为未来的保护工作提供方向指引,即指导未来的保护实践。
根据第二段中“A new study has found that many species of animals and plants will likely need to move under climate change and that conservation efforts will also need to change to be effective.(一项新研究发现,许多动植物在气候变化下可能需要迁徙,而保护工作也需要随之调整才能有效)”并结合全文内容可知,文章主要论述了随着气候变化,物种需要迁移,现有的保护措施必须随之调整才能有效保护生物多样性。
D
I often catch myself asking my questions to AI chatbots with a “please” and a “thank you.” Apparently, I am not alone. A 2024 survey found that approximately 67% of U.S. AI users are also polite and show gratitude toward AI search engines. Some even joked about the cost: if every polite word consumes electricity, the bill must be high. OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman replied: “Tens of millions of dollars well spent — you never know.”
In reality, of course, AI chatbots do not appreciate politeness; they lack consciousness, feelings or social needs. From a purely utilitarian (功利主义的) standpoint, all those pleases and thank yous are just flushing money down the toilet.
Still, there may be value that isn’t immediately measurable in showing gratitude toward AI. Psychologists Robert Emmons and Michael McCullough carried out an experiment in which they divided participants into three groups, asking the first to list things they are grateful for, while others listed daily troubles or simply kept journals. After 10 weeks, they found that the first group reported 25% higher happiness levels, stronger inner strength and even better physical health.
What’s true of gratitude is also true of kindness and generosity more generally. Experiments at UC Riverside found that performing “five small acts of kindness per week” produced steady increases in happiness. This idea isn’t new. The medieval thinker Maimonides wrote that “it is better for a person to give one coin to a thousand poor people than to give a thousand coins to one poor person.” He believed that regular acts of goodness, like giving charity and expressing gratitude, make us happier in the long run by turning virtue into a habit.
So perhaps all of our pleases and thank yous to AI have value, even if they cost OpenAI millions of dollars annually. Showing appreciation, even toward a machine, reinforces positive habits of politeness, patience and empathy (共情). In our increasingly digital and automated world, preserving these human qualities may be more valuable than the cost of a little extra electricity. Ultimately, the beneficiary of our politeness isn’t the AI at all, but ourselves.
32.How does the author introduce the topic in paragraph 1?
A.By quoting an expert.
B.By telling a story.
C.By presenting a phenomenon.
D.By defining a concept.
33.What value of gratitude does the experiment in paragraph 3 show?
A.It strengthens our bodies and minds.
B.It reduces daily stress levels.
C.It improves memory and creativity.
D.It deepens social relationships.
34.What does Maimonides’ words mainly stress?
A.We should show goodness on important festivals.
B.One large donation can help more poor people.
C.We ought to give money to those in need around us.
D.Small and frequent good deeds matter more.
35.What message does the author mainly convey in the text?
A.Politeness to AI wastes electricity bills.
B.Politeness benefits humans rather than AI.
C.AI improves the quality of human life.
D.AI learns empathy from human behavior.
【答案】32.C 33.A 34.D 35.B
根据第一段中“I often catch myself asking my questions to AI chatbots with a “please” and a “thank you.” Apparently, I am not alone. A 2024 survey found that approximately 67% of U.S. AI users are also polite and show gratitude toward AI search engines. (我经常发现自己对AI聊天机器人提问时带着“请”和“谢谢”。显然,我并不孤单。2024年的一项调查发现,大约67%的美国AI用户也对AI搜索引擎保持礼貌并表达感谢。)”可知,作者通过呈现向AI保持礼貌并表达感谢的现象引出文章话题。
33.细节理解题。根据第三段中“After 10 weeks, they found that the first group reported 25% higher happiness levels, stronger inner strength and even better physical health. (10周后,他们发现第一组报告称自身幸福水平高出25%,内心力量更强,身体健康状况也更佳。)”可知,实验表明感恩增强了我们的身心。
34.细节理解题。根据第四段中“The medieval thinker Maimonides wrote that “it is better for a person to give one coin to a thousand poor people than to give a thousand coins to one poor person.” He believed that regular acts of goodness, like giving charity and expressing gratitude, make us happier in the long run by turning virtue into a habit. (中世纪思想家迈蒙尼德写道:“一个人给一千个穷人每人一枚硬币,比给一个穷人一千枚硬币更好。”他认为,频繁的善行,比如慈善捐赠和表达感激,通过将美德变成习惯,从长远来看会让我们更快乐。)”可知,迈蒙尼德的话强调微小而频繁的善举更重要。
35.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Showing appreciation, even toward a machine, reinforces positive habits of politeness, patience and empathy (共情). In our increasingly digital and automated world, preserving these human qualities may be more valuable than the cost of a little extra electricity. Ultimately, the beneficiary of our politeness isn’t the AI at all, but ourselves.(表达感激,哪怕是对着一台机器,也能强化礼貌、耐心和共情的良好习惯。在我们这个愈发数字化、自动化的世界里,守住这些人类特质或许比多消耗一点电量的代价更有价值。最终,我们礼貌举止的受益者根本不是人工智能,而是我们自己。)”可知,作者认为礼貌有益于人类而非AI。

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was the time between seasons, summer gone but autumn not yet arrived. A red bird with bright feathers (羽毛) landed in the old tree, standing out against the gray sky. I remembered my brother Doodle, born when I was seven. He was small and weak, with a big head and tiny body that made him look different from other children. The doctor said he might not live long, so Father asked our neighbor to make a small wooden box, just in case.
But Doodle surprised everyone by living. When he learned to move at nine months old, he went backward like a small bug, his little hands pushing against the floor. That’s how he got his funny name. Though his body was weak, his eyes were bright and full of curiosity. At five, feeling embarrassed about having a brother who couldn’t walk, I decided to teach him. Every afternoon, I took him to the river bank where tall trees grew and birds sang. “Stand up!” I’d say firmly, pulling his thin arms until they shook. After weeks of falling into soft mud, he finally stood alone for five seconds on his birthday. We hugged and laughed under the blue sky, our happy voices carrying over the quiet water like the bird’s call.
Then came the stormy summer of 1918. Dark clouds gathered quickly one August afternoon as we hurried home from the river bank. Heavy rain fell like tears, and sharp lightning cut across the dark sky. “Run faster, Doodle!” I shouted over the loud thunder, but his legs, so new to walking, couldn’t keep up. I ran ahead, my heart beating fast, then turned when I noticed the terrible silence behind me. There he lay under the old tree, his small hands holding a dying red bird. The bird’s neck was bent strangely, its beautiful wings broken — just like Doodle’s weak body when I first tried to make him walk. The rain mixed with the bird’s blood, turning my brother’s white shirt pink.

I dropped beside Doodle, shaking his small shoulders and calling his name. It was a relief when he finally opened his eyes a little. The red bird in his hands was also alive; its chest moved slightly as it breathed. I wrapped them both up in my coat and ran through the storm. Back home, Mother helped me dry the bird’s feathers while Father warmed Doodle by the fire. That night, with the bird resting in a basket and Doodle sleeping peacefully, I understood how nearly I’d lost them both. “Thank you,” Doodle whispered softly right before he fell asleep, his little hand holding mine tightly.
Thirty years later, Doodle, a biology teacher, came to watch the red birds build their nests in the old tree every spring. His students also learned to help injured birds recover in the old house where we grew up. When kids brought us injured birds, we taught them how to attend to them with care. I still have the pink stain from Doodle’s shirt framed in my study. It’s not there to remind me of something lost, but to show me that even broken wings can mend when you give them love and time.

C
C.New challenges in biodiversity conservation D.Exploring conservation efforts in the US

40 Spend quality time with your senior dog, doing some activities they love. Your companionship is invaluable to them. With a thoughtful approach to their needs, you can ensure that your loyal companions enjoy their later years with dignity, comfort, and the love they deserve.
