十二、状 学考知识必备 在句子中作状语的从句叫状语从句。状语从 句包括地点状语从句、方式状语从句、原因状语从 句、目的状语从句、结果状语从句、条件状语从句、 时间状语从句和让步状语从句等。 一、原因状语从句 通常由because,since,.as,now that引导。 1.because语气最强,用来说明主要的、直接的原因,回 答wy提出的问题。当原因是显而易见的或已为 人们所知,就用as,now that或since。例如: I couldn't call you because I didn't have your number. 我没有你的号码所以不能给你打电话。 Since there's no more business,we can all go home. 既然没有事情做,我们都能回家了。 2.for是并列连词,连接的从句起解释和附加说明 的作用。例如: The days were short,for it was now December. 天短了,现在已是12月了。 二、目的状语从句 引导目的状语从句的词或短语有that,so that, in order that,lest,for fear that,in case。例如: I am saving money in order that I can buy a house. 我正在攒钱,以便我能买一所房子。 The man carries a gun in case he is attacked. 这个男人带着一把枪以防万一被攻击。 三、结果状语从句 引导结果状语从句的连词:so that,.so..that, such..that。在非正式语体中,so..that与 such..that引导的句子中that可以省略,且常用 在下列句式中: 1.so+adj./adu.+that从句 2.so十adj.十a(n)十名词十that从句 3.so+many/much/few/little-+名词+that从句 4.such+a(n)+adj.+单数名词+that从句 语从句 5.such十ad.+复数名词或不可数名词+that从句 She had overslept so that she was late for school. 她睡过头了结果上学迟到了。 There is so little water that you can't drink. 水太少了,你喝不上了。 It was such an extraordinary story that no one be- lieved a word of it.=It was so extraordinary a story that no one believed a word of it. 这个故事很不寻常以至于没有人相信。 四、条件状语从句 引导条件状语从句的连接词主要有if,only if, unless,as/so long as,on condition that,in case (万一)等。例如: I'll pay you double if you get the work finished by Friday. 如果你在星期五之前完成这项工作我会给你双 倍的工资。 As long as you don't lose heart,you will suc- ceed. 只要你不灰心,你就会成功。 Only if you study hard,you can be successful. 只有努力学习,你才能成功。 五、地点状语从句 通常由where,wherever引导。例如: Where there is a will,there is a way. 有志者事竟成。(此处的where指抽象地点) 六、方式状语从句 通常由as,(just)as..so..,asif,as though引导。 1.as引导的方式状语从句通常位于主句之后,但在 ((just)as..so..结构中,as引导的从句位于句 首,这时as从句带有比喻的含义,意为“正 如…,就像”,多用于正式文体。例如: When in Rome,do as the Romans do.入乡随俗。 As water is to fish,so air is to man. 人离不开空气,犹如鱼儿离不开水。 2.as if/as though 两者的意义和用法相同,它们引导的状语从句的 谓语多用于虚拟语气,表示与事实相反,有时也 用陈述语气,表示所说情况是事实或实现的可能 性较大。常译作“仿佛…似的,好像…似 的”。例如: He looked as if he had been hit by lightning. 他那样子就像被闪电击中了似的。 It looks as if she has gone away for a few days. 她好像已经出去好几天了。 七、时间状语从句 引l导词常用when,while,as,since,before,af- ter,until,till,as soon as,the moment,every time等。 1.when和while,as (1)when引导的从句中谓语动词可以是短暂性的 也可以是延续性的,while引导的从句中的谓语 动词必须是延续性的。 I read the news while(=when)you were drying your hair. 你弄干头发时我读了这些新闻。 When he saw her,he waved. 他一看见她就摆了摆手。 (2)when可以表示“这时”,常用于be about to do sth.when...was/were doing sth.when... 或had done sth.when..等结构中。 She was about to dish up when some guests came. 她刚要上菜开饭,这时来了一些客人。 (3)当强调主句和从句的动作同时发生时,常用as, 译为“一边…一边…;随着…”。也可以 来表示两个相互伴随着发展或变化的状态。 As time goes by,we get wiser and wiser. 随着时间的流逝,我们变得越来越明智。 John sings as he works. 约翰一边工作,一边唱歌。 2.since和before since表示“自从”,其所在的主句常用现在完成 时;before表示“在…之前,…才/就…,还 5 未来得及…就…”。连词before常用于:It will be/was+时间段+before+主语+do/ did.…之后才…;不久就… How long is it since we visited your mother? 自从我们看望你母亲以来到现在有多长时间了?
