“Am I a ‘T’ person or an ‘E’ person?” It is a popular question among young people around China today. Many people are crazy about it so they take a personality test named MBTI to find out the answer.
Many people find the MBTI is useful. It groups people into 16 kinds, which start with the letter “I” or “E”, such as “ENTJ, INFP” or more. “E” is short for” Extroversion (外向性) “while ‘I’ is for” Introversion (内向性)”. “I’m an ‘E’ person. I should go to the party and make more friends.” “I’m an ‘I’ person. I’d like to work by myself. I could be a writer in the future.” They believe the MBTI result can help them make decisions for activities, jobs or even life choices more quickly. But there are also problems. Some people take the test for a second time and get different results. Some people find it hard to answer some questions. “I like watching TV by myself. But I also enjoy playing with friends. Am I an ‘I’ or an ‘E’?”
When you take a personality test, you may think, “Oh, that’s me.” That’s because the descriptions (描述) are generic. They can be used to describe many people. Research has found that over 50% of people get a different result when they do the MBTI again just five weeks later. Personalities can change with time, scientists say. You can be an “I” now, but you may become an “E” when you get older. Studies have also shown that the test is not reliable at telling people’s success in different jobs. So, don’t take it too seriously.
6. What is the MBTI test about?
A. Personality. B. Health. C. Hobbies. D. Future jobs.
7. How might an “I” person feel about a big, noisy party according to the test?
A. He/she would feel excited and talk to everyone.
B. He/she would prefer to stay alone or with a few close friends.
C. He/she would like playing games with others in the party.
D. He/she would feel it’s the best place to make new friends.
8. What does the word “generic” mean in Paragraph 3?
A. Common. B. Special. C. Clear. D. Scientific.
9. Why do some people get different results when they do the MBTI test again?
A. Because the test questions are too difficult.
B. Because their personalities can change over time.
C. Because they don’t understand the questions.
D. Because the test is only for young people.
10. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. Why the MBTI Test Is So Popular B. The Best Way to Make Life Choices
C. MBTI: Popular but not Perfect D. How to Change your Personality

That year, I was a Junior 2 student. Falling off the stairs hurt my head. Almost everyone thought I was dead. But they were wrong. However, it was difficult to get back to normal life. I had to leave school and learn everything, walking, talking, and yes, maths.
To help me with that task, Mrs. Pillar volunteered to come to the hospital and later to my house on Sundays. We began with basic maths skills. As time passed, I made progress.
I remembered very clearly how she came to my home on Sundays, sat with me at the kitchen table, and threw different coins on the table. She asked me to show her 38 cents, 17 cents, 63 cents. It was challenging, but she also made it fun.
After a year and a half, I had progressed a lot, both in body and mind, to return to school. Seven years later, I graduated from the University of Texas at the top of my class.
As years went by, I always kept in touch with Mrs. Pillar. Unluckily, one day my parents told me that Mrs. Pillar had been in hospital because she suffered a stroke (中风).
Now it was my turn to help her. Mrs. Pillar lay in bed, unable to speak and know anybody around. I pulled some coins out of my pocket, dropped them on her bed, and asked her to show me 12 cents. The nurse thought that my action was very strange until one day Mrs. Pillar smiled happily as I began working with her — just as she had worked with me years before. She made progress every day and was moved out of the ICU and finally out of hospital.
One day, I called to wish her a happy New Year. She spoke into the phone excitedly, “Happy New Year to you and your family, Michael. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me.” I quickly said, “Thank you for everything you’ve done for me.”
Mrs. Pillar was one of my Junior 2 teachers, but she taught me so much more about life than only maths.
11. Which of the following is the correct order of what happened in the story?
a. Mrs. Pillar got better with my help. b. I fell off the stairs and had to leave school.
c. I returned to school with Mrs. Pillar’s help. d. Mrs. Pillar suffered a stroke and was in hospital.
A. b-c-d-a B. c-a-b-d C. b-c-a-d D. b-d-c-a
12. How often did Mrs. Pillar volunteer to help the writer when he was in trouble?
A. Once a day. B. Once a week. C. Once a month. D. Once a year.
13. What does the writer mean by saying “I graduated from the University of Texas at the top of my class” in Paragraph 4?
A. He worked very hard on maths. B. His classmates failed to graduate.
C. He was cleverer than his classmates. D. Mrs. Pillar’s help greatly influenced him.
14. Why did the writer ask Mrs. Pillar to show him 12 cents in the hospital?
A. To play an interesting game with Mrs. Pillar.
B. To see whether Mrs. Pillar was getting better.
C. To make the nurse in the hospital feel strange.
D. To help Mrs. Pillar just as Mrs. Pillar helped him.
15. What is the best title for the passage?

If some old people have trouble walking, the robots can walk next to them to keep them safe. Some robots can even go outside with old people, like walking in the park or going shopping. This helps the elderly stay connected to the world outside.
Being lonely is a big problem for many old people. But these robots can be good friends. They can talk to old people, tell interesting stories and discuss everyday things such as the weather and local news. This not only makes old people feel less lonely but also helps their minds stay active.
________ They can pick up light things when the old people drop them, like a book or glasses. For housework, they can do many easy things, such as light cleaning. This allows old people to keep their homes clean without getting too tired.

五、阅读表达(每题2分,共10分)
You may think that inventions are far away from your everyday life. But in fact, almost everyone can invent something and ideas could be the start of an invention. When inventors see their ideas have some practical value, they don’t let them slip away (溜走).
For example, the inventor of the dishwasher (洗碗机), American Josephine Cochrane, loved to give dinner parties. But she found it took too long to wash her dishes by hand. She thought that a machine could do the job faster and with fewer mistakes. So, in 1886, she set out to make one for herself.
There are some steps to create inventions. The first and most important step is to find the problem. Then you might notice situations or things in need of improvement. The next step is to work it out. An invention is a new way of solving a problem. So think of unusual ways. You can often come up with a solution (解决办法) to a problem by looking at it from a different side.
And the hardest part of inventing is finding a solution. When you have an idea, you can always get help to build your invention. This problem-solving skill is very useful. It can also work in your everyday lives. So, why not try it in your study, or even in the way you look at the world?

例文
Hello, everyone. I’m Li Hua. Today, I want to tell you something about myself. I am 14, just a common-looking, not tall and a little heavy boy. I am quiet but full of curiosity, and my favorite thing is to create small inventions. I used to be bad at getting along with others.
When I was in Grade 7, I found classmates often forgot to clean the blackboard after class. Then I invented a blackboard cleaning reminder for our class. It got high praise from teachers and classmates, and I made many new friends soon.
Now I learn that everyone is different. We all have our own strong points like kindness or creativity. We just need to find them out and let them shine. That’s all. Thank you!
