”及倒数第三段“Available for Caledonian Double (£200/passenger), Club rooms (£170/passenger) (可预订喀里多尼亚双人房(每位乘客 200 英镑)、俱乐部客房(每位乘客 170 英镑))”、原文倒数第二段“Notice: These are single (one-way) tickets; to make a return journey, just buy two single tickets.(注意:以上均为单程票;如需往返行程,仅需购买两张单程票。)”、原文最后一段“If you are travelling in a Caledonian Double or Club room, you’ re welcome to bring up to 2 pets with an additional fare as low as £30 per room.(若您入住喀里多尼亚双人房或俱乐部客房,最多可携带两只宠物,每间客房附加费用低至 30 英镑。)” B At Cheverton Lodge Care Home, festive jingling breaks out from 17-year-old Ted Mayer’s speaker and he launches into his Christmas set. A seasoned volunteer, he has been singing in care homes since he was six. Ted’s charm has won over many in the audience, particularly the older ladies. But it’s not for everyone. Jeanette Hodes, 92, offers an impatient “come on, get on with it,” and leans back in her chair. On a nearby trolley a cat’s cradle (翻花绳) has caught her eye. The string is quickly brought over to her. Soon enough she is transported to the playground of her youth, offering cheerfully-recalled anecdotes from when she learnt double dutch with friends as her mother could not afford to buy her a Sindy doll. Looking on fondly is Jill Fraser, 68, the founder of Kissing it Better (KiB), a charity working to reduce isolation in the elderly through intergenerational friendships. Fraser is making her way around the room with a trolley of assorted old treasures. A faded Beatrix Potter hardback, Jackie magazine and biography of Lord Mountbatten are piled on top of one another. Fraser’s team of volunteers prepared the items as recollection is thought to be a powerful tool for striking up much-needed conversation in the elderly. Anna Giannotti, 63, an art psychotherapist who is paid for a few hours a week by KiB, says, “Sometimes the elderly are hesitant to get involved, but often when they do get involved, they just become their complete selves. I feel very humbled. It could be any of us in the future.” The youngest volunteer of the day, Mariella Hafalla, 16, finds the frankness of the older generation refreshing. “I really enjoyed the session where we talked about what the residents did when they were younger,” she says. “I found out how people used to go outside all of the time but now we are all online so it has helped me realize the importance of going outside.” 24. What brings Jeanette Hodes back to her youth? A. Buying a Sindy doll. B. Learning double dutch. C. Listening to Ted’s songs. D. Playing with a cat’s cradle. 25. Why does Fraser go around the room with the trolley? A. To offer topics that may encourage interaction. B. To check whether the elderly can recall the past. C. To collect personal belongings from the residents. D. To show volunteers how to interact with old people. 26. What is Anna Giannotti’s attitude towards the elderly? A. Curious. B. Grateful. C. Empathetic. D. Protective. 27. Which phrase most closely reflects KiB’s approach? A. Activity over talk. B. Memory as a bridge. C. Service with a smile. D. Care through exercise. D 25. A 26. C 27. 根据第二段中“On a nearby trolley a cat’s cradle has caught her eye. The string is quickly brought over to her. Soon enough she is transported to the playground of her youth.(在附近的一辆手推车上,一个翻花绳游戏引起了她的注意。 根据第三段中“Fraser is making her way around the room with a trolley of assorted old treasures. A faded Beatrix Potter hardback, Jackie magazine and biography of Lord Mountbatten are piled on top of one another. Fraser’s team of volunteers prepared the items as recollection is thought to be a powerful tool for striking up much-needed conversation in the elderly.(弗雷泽推着装满各式各样老旧珍藏品的手推车,在房间里缓步走动。 故选A。 根据第四段中Anna说的话“Sometimes the elderly are hesitant to get involved, but often when they do get involved, they just become their complete selves. I feel very humbled. It could be any of us in the future.(有时候,老年人会对参与其中犹豫不决,但当他们真的参与进来时,往往就能完全展现自我。 根据第三段中的“recollection is thought to be a powerful tool for striking up much-needed conversation in the elderly(回忆被认为是一种强大的工具,有助于老年人开启急需的交流。)” B。 C An ant species has evolved a remarkable solution to the danger of excess carbon dioxide inside their nests, which may hold clues to how humans can store greenhouse gases to prevent climate disaster. Fungus-farming (种植真菌) ants collect vegetation to feed cultivated fungi grown inside their colonies. In turn, the fungi serve as their primary food source. The high density of ants and fungi can result in high concentrations of CO₂ inside the nests. In 2020, Cameron Currie at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his colleagues found that Acromyrmex echinatior ants incorporate a carbonate biomineral into their armour (外壳). The ants do this through a symbiotic (共生的) relationship with Pseudonocardia bacteria, which transform CO₂ into rock using chemical processes that aren’t yet properly understood. Now, the team has discovered that another fungus-farming ant, Sericomymex amabilis, which is found in Central and South America, can do the same thing without symbiotic bacteria, becoming the first known animal to have evolved this ability. Remarkably, the mineral they make is dolomite. Dolomite rocks, such as those in Italy’s Dolomite mountains, normally take millions of years and complex geological processes to form. Yet the ants do this quickly and effortlessly, without high temperatures, says team member Hongjie Li at Zhejiang University in China. Dolomite consists of calcium, magnesium and carbonate. Forming it in the lab is difficult because magnesium doesn’t easily fit into the calcium carbonate structure, which slows down crystal formation, says Currie. To try to overcome this, he says, scientists use high temperatures and pressures. The next phase of the team’s research will try to find out how ants are able to accomplish this. In an effort to counteract global warming, scientists are exploring techniques for converting atmospheric CO2 into carbonate minerals, essentially turning carbon into stone. “These ants are the first animal shown to be engaging in such a process, offering exciting potential as a model for human efforts,” says Currie. 28. What can we learn about the fungus-farming ants’ nest? A. It stays open to outside air. B. It contains a high level of CO₂. C. It is too unstable for ants to survive. D. It provides little room for fungal growth. 29. What makes Sericomymex amabilis different from Acromyrmex echinatior in mineral formation? A. A wider geographic range. B. Involvement of a new fungus. C. A fully understood mechanism. D. Independence from bacterial help. 30. Which word best describes dolomite formation in nature? A. Simple. B. Risky. C. Time-consuming. D. Pressure-dependent. 31. How is the text mainly organized? A. Problem → solutions → outcome. B. Claim → counterclaim → resolution. C. Definition → classification → summary. D. Discovery → explanation → implications. B 29. D 30. C 31. 根据第二段的句子“The high density of ants and fungi can result in high concentrations of CO₂ inside the nests.(蚂蚁和真菌的高密度会导致巢穴内二氧化碳浓度升高。)” 根据第三段的句子“In 2020, Cameron Currie at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his colleagues found that Acromyrmex echinatior ants incorporate a carbonate biomineral into their armour (外壳). The ants do this through a symbiotic (共生的) relationship with Pseudonocardia bacteria (2020年,威斯康星大学麦迪逊分校的卡梅伦·柯里和他的同事发现,多刺切叶蚁会将碳酸盐生物矿物质融入它们的外壳。这些蚂蚁通过与假诺卡氏菌的共生关系来实现这一点)”以及第四段的句子“Now, the team has discovered that another fungus-farming ant, Sericomymex amabilis, which is found in Central and South America, can do the same thing without symbiotic bacteria (现在,该团队发现另一种生活在中美洲和南美洲的真菌种植蚂蚁——Sericomymex amabilis,无需共生细菌就能做到同样的事情)”可知,Sericomymex amabilis与Acromyrmex echinatior的不同之处在于前者无需细菌帮助就能形成矿物质。 根据第五段的句子“Dolomite rocks, such as those in Italy’s Dolomite mountains, normally take millions of years and complex geological processes to form. D It’s Sunday evening, and you’re reviewing another week of progress on five different goals without truly moving the needle on any. You worked out twice, read 20 pages of that business book, spent quality time with family, and kept up with your meditation practice. You’re doing everything right according to the productivity experts. So why does meaningful change feel so difficult to achieve? The accepted wisdom tells us progress comes from small, consistent changes that compound over time. Consistency has its place. But there’s another dimension to transformation we rarely discuss: the catalytic (催化的) power of intense productivity bursts. It’s this more intense, temporary mode of obsession that is key. Productivity experts often advocate sustainable habits and warn against the dangers of going too hard. But neuroscience reveals something fascinating: Our brains respond strongly to intensity. Our brains are highly malleable; they change, sometimes in dramatic ways, to reflect new acquisition of skills and knowledge. Researchers studied London taxi drivers preparing for a test that involved memorizing 25,000 streets. When they examined the brains of these taxi drivers before and after this intensive study period, they discovered something remarkable: The posterior hippocampus, crucial for spatial navigation, physically enlarges. This finding points to a broader principle in human neuroscience: Transformation often requires crossing intensity levels that moderate effort simply can’t reach. At the level of the brain, intense learning looks very different than the slow, consistent gains we’re more familiar with. Research finds that during periods of intense focus, our brains exhibit transient hypofrontality. The prefrontal cortex (前额叶皮层), largely responsible for self-monitoring, tends to quiet down, mirroring what is often seen in “flow states,” where the boundaries between self and task dissolve. Most of us live in maintenance mode. We do enough not to lose ground but rarely enough to truly advance. Maybe it’s time we stopped feeling guilty about our occasional obsessions and started seeing them for what they are: the catalysts that make our steady progress meaningful. 32. What does the scene presented in paragraph 1 indicate? A. Unrealistic goals can lead to failure. B. Constant failures may cause frustration. C. Multitasking can not enhance productivity. D. Sustained effort may not yield real progress. 33. What does the underlined word “malleable” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Repairable. B. Adaptable. C. Delicate. D. Analytical. 34. What happens during “transient hypofrontality”? A. You let down your guard. B. You exercise more self-regulation. C. You feel at one with the task. D. You experience a state of confusion. 35. What is a suitable title for the text? A. Why Intense Focus Beats Steady Habits. B. The Key to Transformation: Consistency. C. How Changing Your Habits Leads to Growth. D. Maintenance Mode: A Common Productivity Trap. D 33. B 34. C 35. 根据第一段“It’s Sunday evening, and you’re reviewing another week of progress on five different goals without truly moving the needle on any. You worked out twice, read 20 pages of that business book, spent quality time with family, and kept up with your meditation practice. You’re doing everything right according to the productivity experts. So why does meaningful change feel so difficult to achieve.(现在是周日晚上,你正在回顾过去一周在五个不同目标上的进展,但没有一个真正取得进展。 根据第五段“Research finds that during periods of intense focus, our brains exhibit transient hypofrontality. The prefrontal cortex, largely responsible for self-monitoring, tends to quiet down, mirroring what is often seen in “flow states,” where the boundaries between self and task dissolve.(研究发现,在高度专注的时期,我们的大脑会表现出短暂的前额叶功能低下。 故选A。 Life can get overwhelming when you’re constantly pulled in different directions. It’s easy to feel stretched too thin between work, family, friends, and personal responsibilities. ____36____They help protect your time, energy, and mental well-being. Here experts in well-being and organizational behavior shared strategies for setting limits. Write a script. If you’re not used to saying no, you can write down what you’re going to say beforehand and practice it. ____37____ You can simply say you’re not available at that time, followed by “Thanks for asking, and I hope to have more capacity next time”. ____38____ When faced with a new work request, take five minutes to assess your workload, energy level and priorities before responding. Pay attention to the activities and interactions that leave you feeling drained or overwhelmed. Put those kinds of events on a “No List”. The list doesn’t mean you decline every time you’re asked, but don’t say yes right away. Harness technology. Mobile devices make it easier to work from anywhere, and harder to draw boundaries. ____39____ For example, if you check emails far too frequently, move the email app from your phone’s homepage to the second page. Setting boundaries isn’t about shutting people out. ____40____ Creating healthy limits protects your energy, prioritizes your happiness, and builds stronger relationships. The more you practice, the easier it becomes. Your time and well-being are worth protecting, so start setting boundaries that help you live on your terms. A. Know your limits. B. It’s easy to feel stretched too thin between work, family, friends, and personal responsibilities.(当你总是被不同的事情牵绊时,生活可能会变得让人难以承受。 空后“They help protect your time, energy, and mental well-being. Here experts in well-being and organizational behavior shared strategies for setting limits.(它们有助于保护你的时间、精力和心理健康。 If you’re not used to saying no, you can write down what you’re going to say beforehand and practice it.(写一个回应脚本。 空后“You can simply say you’re not available at that time, followed by “Thanks for asking, and I hope to have more capacity next time”.(你可以简单地说你那时没空,然后加上“谢谢你的邀请,希望下次我有更多时间”)”给出了简单的拒绝话术,空处需要衔接前后文,说明拒绝时的一个核心原则。选项F“You don’t have to explain yourself when declining a request.(拒绝请求时,你不必为自己解释)”承接前文写拒绝脚本的建议,又为后文的简单拒绝话术做了理论铺垫,符合语境。故选F。 【38题详解】 空后“When faced with a new work request, take five minutes to assess your workload, energy level and priorities before responding. Pay attention to the activities and interactions that leave you feeling drained or overwhelmed. Put those kinds of events on a “No List”. The list doesn’t mean you decline every time you’re asked, but don’t say yes right away.(当面临新的工作请求时,先花五分钟评估你的工作量、精力水平和工作重点,然后再回应。 故选A。 Mobile devices make it easier to work from anywhere, and harder to draw boundaries.(利用科技手段。 空后“For example, if you check emails far too frequently, move the email app from your phone’s homepage to the second page.(例如,如果你查邮件太频繁,就把邮件应用从手机主页移到第二页)”给出了调整移动设备使用的具体方法,空处需要衔接前后文,体现出可以通过方法调整设备以减少干扰。选项G“But there are ways to adjust them so they are less distracting.(但有一些方法可以调整它们,让它们不那么让人分心)”中But表转折,承接前文移动设备带来的困难,“them”指代前文的“Mobile devices”,又为后文的具体调整方法做铺垫,符合语境。 D“It means making space for the life you want.(它意味着为你想要的生活创造空间)”中“It”指代前文的“Setting boundaries”,承接前文的否定表述,正面阐释设定边界的真正意义,与后文的积极作用相呼应,符合语境。故选D。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) I am a frequent flyer due to my work. Facing the challenge of losing precious ice land, I am writing to ask you for some ways out. With the development of industry and cities, climate has been worsening. As the planet warms, it becomes harder for us to get food. Thus, recent years have witnessed many of my peers’ death. The loss of our species is the loss of yours. I sincerely beg for your immediate actions to protect our common home — the Earth. Bloom at Your Own Pace Exam papers were handed out one after another and landed quietly on every desk. Staring at the red scores on my paper, I knew I failed to get the top rank. Low whispers spread around me as the teacher read out everyone’s rankings slowly. Disappointment welled up inside me, and I felt my dream of entering my ideal university gradually run away. I had long been pushing myself hard just to achieve high rankings. I rose early in the morning and stayed up late studying every day, arranging all my time tightly for different school subjects. I once firmly believed that taking first place constantly would prepare me for a better future. This belief once motivated me greatly, yet endless pressure soon tired me out. I often felt eye discomfort and mental tiredness, and the top position always seemed impossible to reach. Feeling low, I left the classroom alone. The air was fresh with the smell of rain. I stopped at a quiet little garden beside the library, which I had never taken time to visit before. An elderly gardener was busy tending flowers and watering plants with great care. Only a handful of flowers were in bloom (开花) among green leaves. I couldn’t help questioning whether all his efforts were worthwhile. Sensing my confusion, the old man smiled and began to chat with me. He told me that every flower has its own flowering time. Some blossom early, while others need more time to grow. As long as they get enough sunshine, water and proper care, they will surely bloom perfectly when the right time comes. Instead of rushing for results, we should learn to wait patiently and focus on steady (稳步的) growth. “Not sure when they flower — isn’t it upsetting?” I asked. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ From that day on, I decided to follow his advice — less hurrying, more growing. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: “Not sure when they flower — isn’t it upsetting?” I asked. “It makes every effort meaningful,” he replied calmly. “Flowers develop bit by bit every single day. Blooming is just a brief moment, while the whole process of growing matters far more.” His words sank deep into my heart. I recalled my blue mood over poor grades and those sleepless nights, realizing I was too eager to succeed and cared too much about final results so that I ignored steady progress and the value of effort itself. I thanked the gardener sincerely and left the garden with a peaceful and relaxed mind. From that day on, I decided to follow his advice — less hurrying, more growing. I adjusted my study state and made solid progress step by step instead of blindly chasing high rankings. When graduation finally arrived, I visited the garden again and saw countless flowers in full bloom. Soon afterwards, I received the admission notice from my target university. I realized I needn’t rush for success. As long as I keep moving forward steadily, I will surely shine in my own proper time. 词汇激活 行为类 ①回复:reply/respond/answer ②忽视:ignore/neglect/disregard 情绪类 ①急切的:eager/anxious ②真诚地:sincerely/genuinely/earnestly 【点睛】[高分句型1] When graduation finally arrived, I visited the garden again and saw countless flowers in full bloom. B At Cheverton Lodge Care Home, festive jingling breaks out from 17-year-old Ted Mayer’s speaker and he launches into his Christmas set. C An ant species has evolved a remarkable solution to the danger of excess carbon dioxide inside their nests, which may hold clues to how humans can store greenhouse gases to prevent climate disaster. Life can get overwhelming when you’re constantly pulled in different directions. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力考试正式开始,本听力试题分为第一第二两节。 Hi, i'm trying to sign up for a psychology class. Not really. But I used to visit family, friends farms when I was a kid. Did you enjoy IT? Yeah, quite a lot. I loved riding horses and wandering through the fields. Sounds great. I spent every summer on my grandfather's farm. When I was a kid, I collected eggs, fed the chickens and brushed the horses. Most importantly, farm life taught me to appreciate every body of food. I get that, but framework never stops. It's an endless cycle of planting, harvesting and maintaining the land. Almost without a break, I guess i've got news to city life and working on computers. Could you imagine moving back to a farm? Maybe not full time, but there's something peaceful about farm life. How about taking our kids to a farm on weekends or during the holidays? They can enjoy the fresh air and learn where food comes from. That's a great idea. It's a good way for them to experience IT, even if we can't live that life ourselves.
