Used to describe past life, “used to do” shows something was true in the past but it is not true now. But many students mix it up with “be used to doing”. “be used to doing” means “get used to something”. “to” here is a preposition and you must use “doing” after it.
Have you ever been to a place that changed a lot? Now complete towns have changed greatly in China over the last twenty years. Many villages have become modern towns. Some people have moved to big cities. Some people still live in their hometown. They have seen great changes take place around them. “take place” has no passive form. Scientists have found that willpower (意志力) is the key to success. People with strong willpower are more likely to achieve their dreams and live better lives.
Willpower is the ability to control yourself and keep trying when you face difficulties. Many people think willpower is something you are born with. But scientists say that is not true. Willpower is like a muscle—the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets.
How can we improve our willpower? First, start with small goals. For example, if you want to develop a good reading habit, start with 10 minutes a day. Small success gives you confidence. Second, don’t try to change too many things at once. It will make you tired easily. Third, never give up when you fail. Everyone makes mistakes. What matters is to learn from them and keep going.
However, scientists also remind us that willpower is not endless. If you use too much of it in a day, you may feel tired. So it is also important to give yourself proper rest.
With strong willpower, you can get through hard times and achieve your goals. Remember: small steps lead to big success.

Second-hand Economy on the Rise
In recent years, the second-hand economy has been growing rapidly in China. More and more people are buying and selling used goods.
What is driving this trend? For one thing, young people today are more open to buying second-hand items. They don’t care if a product has been used before as long as it is in good condition and the price is right. For another, the rise of online platforms like Xianyu and Zhuanzhuan has made it very easy to trade used goods. People can post pictures of their items and connect with buyers within minutes.
The second-hand economy covers many categories. The most popular items are electronics, books, clothing, and furniture. Some people even trade luxury goods like designer bags and watches. Environmental awareness is also a factor. Many young people believe that buying second-hand goods is a way to reduce waste and protect the environment.
However, there are also challenges. Some sellers may not describe the condition of the items honestly. Buyers may receive products that are different from what they expected. There are also safety concerns when trading in person.
Despite these challenges, the second-hand economy is expected to keep growing. Experts say it could become a much larger part of the overall economy in the future.

Charlie entered the shop and laid fifty pence (便士) on the counter (柜台). “One Wonka’s chocolate,” he said. The man behind the counter looked fat. He turned around and reached behind him for the chocolate bar, then he turned back and handed it to Charlie.
Charlie grabbed it and quickly tore off the wrapper and took a big bite. Then he took another…and another…and oh, the joy of being able to put large pieces of something sweet and solid into one’s mouth!
The shopkeeper put Charlie’s change on the counter. “Take it easy,” he said. “It’ll give you a stomachache if you eat it like that without chewing (咀嚼).”
Charlie went on wolfing the chocolate. He couldn’t stop. And in less than half a minute, the whole thing had disappeared down his throat. He was quite out of breath, but he felt fairly happy. He reached out a hand to take the change. Then he stopped. His eyes stared at the silver coins lying there. The coins were all five-penny pieces. There were just nine of them altogether. Surely it wouldn’t matter if he spent just one more coin. “I think,” he said quietly, “I think I’ll have just one more of those chocolate bars.” “Why not?” the fat shopkeeper said. He laid another bar on the counter.
Charlie picked it up and tore off the wrapper…and suddenly…from under the wrapper…there came a bright flash of gold. Charlie’s heart stood still, “It’s a Golden Ticket!” shouted the shopkeeper. “You’ve got a Golden Ticket! You’ve found the last Golden Ticket! Come and look at this, everybody! The kid found Wonka’s last Golden Ticket! Right there in his hands! He will be one of the five lucky children to be shown around Wonka’s chocolate factory!”
In a few seconds, there was a crowd of about twenty people around Charlie, and many more were pushing their way in from the street.

Every seed bank has a story. Here is one built inside a mountain.
Spitsbergen is a cold island near the North Pole, where it is dark for months in winter. In 2008, builders cut a long hall deep into its frozen mountain. Inside, on steel shelves, rest thousands of small boxes.
Governments and research centres from all over the world send in their seeds: rice from Asia, wheat from Africa, potatoes from South America... Each box is a copy that stays safe while the original may face danger at home.
Why does the world need such a vault (保管库)? A war, a new plant disease or bad weather can wipe out a kind of crop in one bad year. The boxes in the mountain wait quietly for the day when someone needs to begin again.
The collection never stops growing. Today the vault holds more than one million seed samples, and China sends in special seeds of its own every year.
One day, we hope, nobody will ever need to open these boxes.

后文提到“was always ready to help others”,说明男孩内心善良,应用kind。
live a happy life为固定搭配,表示“过上幸福的生活”,介词of后接动名词living。
后文出现“on the right of the market”,说明地点是market。
后半句“he loved his cloak even more”说明他很满意这个称号,应用satisfied。
put on“穿上”、get into“进入”以及blow out“吹灭”均不符合语境。
Oliver拒绝卖掉斗篷,打算继续用斗篷助人,continue to do sth.

It is used to describe big events or changes that happen.
