Passage 1
(25-26九上·浙江温州市龙湾初中协作校·期中)
Chen Yuanchun is a teacher at a rural (乡村的) primary school in Cangyuan, Yunnan Province. She was born in 1981 and she became a Chinese teacher when she was 20. Now, the 44-year-old woman teaches Chinese, but she is very interested in computer technology. She has introduced coding (编程) to her students as an important information technology skill.
Chen’s connection to coding began in November 2018. She became one of the first teachers in Cangyuan to take training courses on coding. The training was challenging for a beginner like Chen. She needed to learn how to tell a machine to perform actions and finish tasks through different orders. She worked very hard because she believed this skill would be helpful for her students.
After the training, Chen started a new group in her school to teach the students coding, but some parents opposed her plan. They didn’t understand what coding was and thought Chen was wasting their children’s time to play video games on the computer.
So, Chen could only teach students of her own class at first. For teens, coding does not include writing difficult coding languages. Then Chen taught them how to create interesting animations (动画片) and games.
After only one term, every student was able to create something through coding. Learning coding also helped them become more creative and improved their problem-solving skills.
Soon, coding classes became popular in schools all over Cangyuan. Some students even won prizes in a national competition last year.
“I will work harder and hope these children in mountain areas will have a better future by learning information technology,” Chen said.

Passage 2
(25-26九上·浙江义乌市苏溪镇初级中学·期中)
Wang Maowei, a 40-year-old artist is good at making stick puppets (木偶).
When he was a little boy, he watched how his parents performed those beautiful puppets, and how interesting those performances were. Gradually, he fell in love with it as a teenager.
When he was 17, he went to Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, to learn puppet-making from a master. After spending seven years there, he returned to his hometown to work with the same group as his parents did.
It takes 40 to 50 days to make a stick puppet. The average height of a puppet is 75 centimeters to 1 meter, and it has different costumes to fit different plays and stories.
To make puppets, you need to have some basic knowledge of fine arts. The most difficult part is to persist (坚持) because it can be robotic and hard work. Wang was strict with himself. After at least five years of learning from his master, he began to think out new forms. “It is important to keep up with the times and be creative,” he said to himself.
Wang puts gears (齿轮) inside the puppet heads. He found a special kind of paper to make them work — the nose, eyes and mouth of a puppet will all move with the use of one stick. It lets puppet players put the puppets away easily.
With the help of modern technology, his puppets can even perform bianlian or face-changing, to attract more young people. He has made some changes to the puppet plays. His group now only uses background music instead of local operas. This makes it easier for the young to understand.
1.When did Wang Maowei start learning puppet-making?
A.When he was a teenager. B.When he was a little boy.
C.When he was 24 years old. D.When he was 40 years old.
2.What does the underlined word robotic mean?
A.interesting B.hard C.boring D.relaxing
3.According to the passage, what makes Wang Maowei’s puppet different?
A.His master’s excellent skills. B.Young people’s love for puppets.
C.His parents’ influence. D.His ability to create.
4.If you can watch Wang’s performance, what can you probably see?
A.Some puppets looking like robots. B.Common puppets like others.
C.Puppet performances with local operas. D.Puppets can do face-changing.
【答案】1.A 2.C 3.D 4.D

Passage 3
(25-26九上·浙江浙江丽水·期中)
One day, Susie was unhappy when she came home from school. “What’s the matter, my dear?” asked her mother, drawing her to her side and smiling.
“All our class must hand in compositions tomorrow. We must write 12 lines at least. But I can never write one. I’ll have to go to school without a composition, for I won’t copy one from a book, or ask you or papa to write one for me.”
“That’s right,” said her mother. “You’ll be happier with a poor composition, if it’s your own, than with a fine one written by somebody else. But cheer up. Run into the garden and play. I’ll call you in half an hour. Don’t think about your composition now. Just have a good time.”
It seemed just a few minutes to Susie before she heard her mother calling her. She went into the house immediately — her hands full of sweet flowers, and her face red with exercise.
Then her mother asked her to sit by the window with a nice piece of paper and a pencil, and write something about what she could see. “Never mind your composition; do this to please me, and we’ll talk about that later.”
Although Susie thought her mother’s request was strange, she knew she always had a good reason for everything she did. So she did as her mother requested.
As she looked out, she first saw the western sky and some bright, sunset clouds. “Oh, mother, what a sunset!”
“Don’t talk. Just write.”
The pencil began moving rapidly across the paper. She wrote about the sunset clouds, the look of the distant hills, the streets, the river, the garden with its flowers, and the birds flying past the window. She forgot all about the terrible composition!
Just as she had reached the bottom of the page, her mother came in and said with a smile, “Well, Susie, how does that composition come on?”
“Composition! You told me not to think about it, and I’ve never thought of it once. I’ve had such a nice time writing about what I could see from the window.”
Mrs. Smith took the paper and read what Susie had written. She said, “There, Susie, that’s a very nice composition, really.”
“A composition! Is that a composition?” Susie asked in surprise.
“Yes, my dear, and a very good one, too, if we find a title for it,” replied her mother. Then she added, “I’m sure it will please your teacher, as it does me. You see, it’s easy enough to write a composition if you have anything interesting to write about.”

A.My Helpful Clever Mother B.The Beautiful Sights at Sunset
C.How to Please Your Teacher D.How to Have a Pleasant Time
4.What might happen the next morning?
A.Susie’s classmates would laugh at her.
B.Susie’s teacher would be angry with her.
C.Susie’s mother would ask her to stay at home.

Passage 1
(25-26九上·浙江温州翔宇中学·期中)
All day long the little boy, Richard, worked hard in the fields with his farmer family. But at sunset there came an hour that was all his own. He’d climb a nearby hill and look across at a faraway house on another hill with its windows shining like gold.
One day, his father called him over. “You’ve been a good boy and earned a holiday. Take today for yourself, but remember—time is valuable, and learn something good.” The boy thanked his father, kissed his mother, put some bread in his pocket, and set off to find the house with golden windows.
It was pleasant walking at first. By and by he got hungry, so he sat by a stream and ate his bread. Then he fed bread to the birds, just like his mother taught him.
After a long time, he reached the hill with the house. But he felt very disappointed—its windows were just glass. No gold at all. He almost cried. A kind woman came, asked what he wanted and laughed softly when he talked about the golden windows.
“We’re poor farmers, too.” she said, and handed him milk and cake, then called her daughter who was about his age.
“You came to the wrong house! Follow me.” the little girl said excitedly and took him to a hill behind the farm.
“They only shine at sunset.” At the top, she turned and pointed. There, on a far hill, stood his own house—its windows shining like gold!
The way home was long and dark. But the lamplight and firelight shone through the windows, making them almost as bright as he had seen them from the hilltop.
“Have you learned anything?” asked his father.
“Yes,” the boy smiled. “Our house has windows of gold.”

1.第一段提到“All day long the little boy, Richard, worked hard in the fields with his farmer family.”,说明Richard每天和农民家人一起在田里努力工作。因此“earned”在这里表示“通过努力工作而获得”,与C项“Worked hard to get”意思最接近。
2.第六段提到女孩说“You came to the wrong house! Follow me.”,并带他走到农场后面的小山上,然后“At the top, she turned and pointed. There, on a far hill, stood his own house—its windows shining like gold!”
4.文章最后父亲问“Have you learned anything?”,男孩回答“Yes... Our house has windows of gold.”这个故事说明,同样一座房子,从远处看窗户像金子一样闪亮,从近处看却只是普通玻璃;而自己家从远处看也同样闪着金光。这体现了“生活中很多事物取决于我们看待它的角度”,对应C项“Much in life depends on our point of view.”。
Passage 2
(25-26九上·浙江温州龙港·期中)
It was another hot city morning, the air was wet and uncomfortable. Faced with my long and thick hair, Mum was a little helpless again. The weather made it even harder to brush (梳). I loved my hair, but I was tired of the daily battle (斗争) with it.
To solve the problem, my grandma Kelly came to help. She had studied in a beauty school for months. Mum asked her to give me a new cut. After preparing, Kelly asked, “So what style would you like, Cindy?”
I lifted the heavy hair off my neck, and said, “Is there a style that will be easy to brush?”
Kelly thought for a moment, “I know.” She made her own hair into a knot (发髻) at her neck. “You could have it cut short like this. It would feel much cooler and easier. What do you think?”
With her hair reaching the neck, Kelly looked so beautiful. I wanted to look like that too. “Yes,” I said. “Cut it.”

However, nothing came from the bamboo seeds. In the second year, the ferns grew more quickly, but the bamboo seeds still didn’t sprout. This didn’t disappoint me and I cared for them as usual. Finally, in the fifth year, a tiny sprout came from earth. Compared with the ferns, it was so small and unimportant. But just six months later, the bamboo was over 100 feet tall.”
“The bamboo had spent five years growing roots (根). And those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to grow up,” the man continued. “Now, tell me, what can you learn from this story?”
I looked at the old man in surprise and couldn’t answer this unexpected question. The man smiled and said, “Young boy, first of all, you should realise the importance of being patient, because big changes usually take time. Never give up. My family lived in a tiny house. There were no electric lights, only candles. My father was a postman, and he often worked twelve hours a day outside in the cold winter or in the hot summer. My mum was a farm girl before she met my father. She was a considerate and loving mother. She didn’t go out to work. There were five children in my family, and looking after us was more than a full-time job.
I remember the family meals. The food was simple. We could only eat meat once or twice a year. My family was not rich enough to send me to school, and what’s more, because I was a girl.
How has life changed?
Families have got smaller than they were in the past. Today, most people only have one child. The role of women has changed too. My daughter is really lucky. She has a good education, and she goes to work even after getting married. I’m happy to see she’s busy working every day, but sometimes I feel lonely because she can’t come to see me often.
Transport and travel are easier today. When I was young, I went everywhere on foot or sometimes by bike. Now, you can take the bus everywhere, and there’s also the underground. And you young people can take a plane to anywhere in the world. The only thing I don’t like, though, is that there’s so much more traffic. It’s so difficult to cross the road.
Of course, we didn’t have television when I was a child. I really enjoy watching television today. There are so many good programs, like the Beijing Opera and old films. But some of the shows are too noisy for me.
Generally speaking, I think life is better today. We eat better and we live longer.

Chen’s connection to coding began in November 2018. She became one of the first teachers in Cangyuan to take training courses on coding. The training was challenging for a beginner like Chen. I have been worrying for weeks now about what to give my mother for Mother’s Day. For most people, this is not a big problem. For me, however, it’s hard to find a Mother’s Day gift that will satisfy both Mama and me.
Expensive gifts are out because they make Mama feel terrible. “This is awful, Julie,” she says. “You shouldn’t have spent the money on me.” Inexpensive gifts please Mama, but they make me feel terrible.
There is always the danger that a gift given to Mama will bounce back (反弹) to me. If I buy her something to wear, it turns out to fit me perfectly. Papa stopped trying to shop for Mama long ago. On Mother’s Day or her birthday, he writes a poem. Papa is not a good poet, but Mama doesn’t mind. She says, “It doesn’t have to rhyme (押韵) as long as it’s from the heart.”
This year, finally, I think I, too, have found a painless gift for Mama. I am going to give her an article, unrhymed but from the heart, in which I wish her “Happy Mother’s Day” and tell her that her love is priceless.

On the first day of school, our teacher introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.
I turned around and found a little old lady with a warm smile. She said, “Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I’m eighty-seven years old.”
“Why are you in university at such a ‘young’ age?” I asked. She replied, “I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of kids, and then retire (退休) and travel.”
I knew she was joking. I was curious about what might have encouraged her to take on this challenge at her age.
“I always dreamed of having a university education and now I’m getting one!” she told me.
We became friends. Every day we would talk nonstop after class. I always enjoyed listening to this “time machine” as she shared her wisdom and experience with me. And Rose easily made friends wherever she went.
At the end of the term, we invited Rose to make a little speech. She cleared her throat and began, “We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. I’ve learned a few secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.”

“Please calm down and sit,” said Mr. Johnson, “I’m glad everyone’s here for the final reading test of the year.” When everyone cried, Mr. Johnson laughed, saying it was just a joke. Then he reminded us that we still had a job to do. “You need to clean out your desks and put all your things into your backpacks.” he added gently.

I spent three years teaching English at a middle school in Chongqing, China. While teaching in Chongqing, I had chances to travel all across Asia. My adventure (冒险) to the Gobi Desert was one of my favorites. My trip took me from the rainbow mountains of Zhangye Danxia, to Jiayuguan, an ancient fort (要塞) on the Great Wall of China. I ended at Dunhuang, one of the central parts of the Silk Road in the Gobi Desert.
I did the journey all by myself. A trip alone meant that I had to depend on my Mandarin speaking skills. When I first arrived in China my Mandarin was not good, but I tried to speak to local families and children on the trains. They were all very friendly. I had families practicing English with me as well. We all got our translation apps open when there was an unfamiliar word.
Mount Everest was my last major trip before leaving China. I traveled through the grand Potala Palace in Lhasa, Xizang, to the blue Yamdrok Lake, before making my way to the famous mountain with a tour group. It was amazing to put myself into Xizang’s culture and experience the world through their eyes. I used my language skills to help our group order food in the markets and translate into English when our guide couldn’t find a proper word to express something.
Physically, the terrain (地形) was unique, and the high height and short of oxygen made me feel sick. As a result, I couldn’t sleep well at night. “I remembered clearly waking up in the night to get my oxygen tank (氧气瓶) many times. However, I made it. After three days’ traveling, we finally saw sunset and sunrise at the top of Base Camp of Mount Everest.
The whole experience made me fall in love with traveling, and gave me the desire (欲望) to experience even more of the world.

“You take Lizzy out before we leave, and I’ll be waiting for you in the car!” I told Tom. I started the car and waited impatiently. I saw my husband walk out of the front door but at that moment Lizzy shot out and ran down the street at a great speed.
My husband ran after the dog and I followed in my car. “Lizzy! Lizzy!” We shouted as fear filled my heart, we ran after her down our Bellwood Street, “She’s running on Wireless Road!” We both cried with fear. Lizzy ran up and down in the busy street. My husband kept running after her, out of breath, I shouted to my husband, “Tom, be careful when you cross the street!”
Within minutes, traffic was actually stopped on Wireless Road. Several good people got out of their cars to help us to get the dog back. Soon, she ran into a safer area and back to our street, With the help of six strangers, we caught her within a few minutes, everyone cheered, and we thanked the helpers again and again.
With Lizzy safely back inside, we drove straight to the hospital at once and were able to see our daughter in the delivery room (产房). My husband and I were forever thankful to the strangers who might have saved Lizzy’s life and who enabled us to be there at the beginning of a precious new one.

Passage 1
(25-26九上·浙江教育协作共同体联盟(温州)·期中)
Jane Goodall, famous for her important research with chimpanzees, spent her life helping all wild animals and protecting the environment. Her passion lasted until her death on October 1st, 2025.
Born in Britain, Goodall went to work in Africa in 1957. Later, Louis Leakey, an anthropologist (人类学家), invited her to study chimpanzees with him. From then on, Goodall began her pioneering research on chimpanzees in Tanzania in 1960. She also got a Ph.D.at the University of Cambridge in 1966.
Her research was different. Instead of simply watching the animals far away and giving them numbers like other scientists, she lived closely with the chimpanzees, gave them names, and built personal relationships with them. These unusual methods (方法) were questioned by some scientists. However, Goodall is believed to be the only person accepted into chimpanzee society. Goodall said, “... if we have a soul (心灵), then so do the chimpanzees. I could spend hours out in the forest, being with the chimpanzees. These were the best days of my life.”
After seeing a film about lab animals in 1986, she said, “I knew I had to do something.” She was travelling and giving speeches almost 300 days a year until her death. “If you want to save wild animals, you have to find ways for local people to live without harming the environment and then think about what future children could have if we go on business as usual.” she said.

Passage 2
(25-26九上·浙江浙派联盟·期中)
Living abroad can be a really great experience. I’ve been in China for 14 years. I feel very lucky about my life here. I’ve seen many places, learned a lot, and got to know China’s rich culture.
I like the traditional and historical parts of the cities I visit. China’s old buildings, customs, and stories always interest me. But I also try to enjoy the modern side of life here. To really understand a culture, you need to step out of your comfort zone and talk to the people there every day.
But this is not easy for me because I’m kind of shy. I’ve exercised a lot since I was a teenager. But I usually do sports alone, like running and swimming. So when two friends asked me to try a group HIIT class called F45, I wasn’t sure.
I wasn’t worried about how hard the exercise would be. I thought I was in good shape. (I soon found out I was wrong!) But the idea of being with a group of people scared me. I didn’t like the thought of exercising, sweating, and maybe looking silly in front of strangers. And I didn’t like the idea of high-fiving everyone after the class.
I thought the class would be full of very good athletes competing with each other. But I was so wrong.
In fact, I found a very nice group of people. They were of different ages, from different places, and had different fitness levels. They just wanted to have 45 minutes (that’s what the 45 in F45 means) of exercise, get some encouragement, and have fun.
It didn’t take long for me to feel at home. Four years later, I’m really glad I tried it. I’ve done better than I thought. I got 1st place in the F45 Playoffs men’s doubles relay and 3rd place in Hyrox Shanghai. I never thought I could do this when I first went to the class. But the best thing is the friends I’ve made. I’ve met new people and I know we’ll be friends for a long time. It’s not easy to make long-lasting friends, especially when you live in a foreign country.
This experience taught me that learning about a place isn’t just about going to temples, museums, or old places. It’s about sharing daily life with the people who live there. China is a big and very interesting country. I’ve only learned a little about it. But the most important things I’ve learned didn’t come from guidebooks or tours. They came from talking with people and making friends over time. I still don’t like the high-fives, though.
1.Why does the writer think living abroad is a great experience?
A.Because he can try different kinds of food.
B.Because he can try different kinds of sports.
C.Because he can visit many places in his own country.
D.Because he has learned a lot and got to know a rich culture.
2.What did the writer find in the F45 class?
A.A group mostly made up of people of the same age.
B.People who cared more about their own progress.
C.A mix of people with different characters and fitness.
D.Those who didn’t seem to welcome new people.
3.How did the writer’s feelings about the F45 class change?
A.Comfortable →Doubtful→Worried →Happy
B.Doubtful →Worried→Comfortable →Happy
C.Worried →Doubtful →Happy → Comfortable
D.Happy →Comfortable → Doubtful → Worried
4.Which saying best expresses the writer’s experience?
A.All roads lead to Rome. B.One is never too old to learn.
C.Experience is the best teacher. D.A friend in need is a friend indeed.

Passage 1

“Cut it.”
Snip, snip…my hair rained onto the floor. Looking at it, I became a bit worried. When finished, Kelly held out a mirror, our faces were side by side. However, only her hair was long. Mine was so short! I could say nothing, ▲
“Oh, darling, what’s wrong?” Kelly asked.
“It’s—it’s too short!”
“It will be easy, and now we can see more of your beautiful face.” But her words didn’t help.

As I jumped into water, something amazing happened. My head felt light and free. Without long hair covering my eyes, I swam like never before, faster and more freely.

Passage 3
(25-26九上·浙江金华市永康市联盟·期中)
Two years ago, I made a decision to drop out of school. I always failed exams and I didn’t think I was a smart boy. After that, I went to the woods to take a walk by myself. It was grey, which made me feel sad. On the way, I met an old man and told him about my decision.
“Look around, young boy,” he said. “When I planted the ferns (蕨类) and the bamboo seeds (种子), I took good care of them. The ferns grew so quickly that their leaves soon covered the ground.
Secondly, it’s easier to give up when things are not going your way. Why don’t you regard difficulties as chances of being better? Lastly, always believe in yourself. Passage 1
(25-26九上·浙江宁波市余姚市·期中)
I used to be really shy. When I first came to this new school, I became even shyer. But once I talked to my classmate in a math class. And then, I was punished to write a five-page passage about “Why I Shouldn’t Talk in Class”. It seemed like it would take me all night!
After getting home, I spent some time feeding and playing with my cat first, so that I can avoid the hard task. When I finally started writing, I began with the reasons my teacher Ms. Black would like. I wrote that talking in class stopped me and my classmates from learning. After finishing one paragraph, I found it difficult to continue. I thought for a long time and then got an idea. What if talking led to a bad life like becoming a criminal? If I didn’t get an education and dropped out (辍学), I might steal things and go to the prison (监狱). And when I got out, people would say, “She used to talk in class.” The pages began flying by.
When my mom came home from work, I was still complaining (抱怨), “Five pages? It’s impossible!” Mom said, “You should keep writing. I want to read it when you finish.” After dinner, I gave the passage to mom. I thought she would scold (指责) me or at least tell me to learn a lesson. But she laughed and laughed while reading.
The next day, when Ms. Black read my passage to the class, everyone laughed. I knew they weren’t laughing at me. They were laughing because I had the ability to tell a funny story. My confidence still needed to grow, but I knew I wouldn’t be shy while writing.

Mrs Li is over seventy years old. She has lived in Beijing all her life. I asked her about life today and in the past.
What was your life like in the past?
My family lived in a tiny house. There were no electric lights, only candles. My father was a postman, and he often worked twelve hours a day outside in the cold winter or in the hot summer. Chen Yuanchun is a teacher at a rural (乡村的) primary school in Cangyuan, Yunnan Province. The 44-year-old woman teaches Chinese, but she is very interested in computer technology. She has introduced coding (编程) to her students as an important information technology skill.
Chen’s connection to coding began in November 2018. She became one of the first teachers in Cangyuan to take training courses on coding. The training was challenging for a beginner like Chen. (25-26九上·浙江嘉兴市桐乡市乌镇中学·期中)
If I give her a plant, she cuts off the top for me to take home and root (生根) in a glass of water. If I give her something to eat, she wants me to share it with her.
