I’ll send you the full itinerary (行程) next week. The Hair Museum (Turkey) is located in a cave. It contains 16,000 samples of people’s hair. You’ll have a chance to add your own hair to the collection. Later in the year, the museum worker will choose ten to attend a pottery workshop. If you’re one of them, you’ll be invited to stay in his guest house. The Washington Banana Museum (USA) contains 4,000 objects about the history of bananas. We’ll have a guided tour around the museum and learn interesting facts. For example, bananas were introduced to the USA in 1878 in the same exhibition as Alexander Bell’s telephone. The banana is now the bestselling fruit in the US. The Museum of Bad Art (USA) shows what it describes as “art too bad to be ignored (忽略)”. The museum hopes to bring the worst of art to the widest possible audience. As part of the visit, we’ll see some truly awful portraits, landscapes and sculptures. The World of Beatrix Potter (UK) brings Peter Rabbit stories to life. Visitors can see Mr. McGregor’s garden and a lovely tea room. Located by Lake Windermere, it feels like stepping into a fairy-tale world. There is also a gift shop with many nice things to buy. Talk to you soon! 1. What can visitors do at the Hair Museum? A. Give their hair to it. B. Be a guest of the worker. C. Experience life in a cave. D. Attend a pottery workshop. 2. Which of the following sentences is true? A. The Washington Banana Museum was set up in 1878. B. The Washington Banana Museum has 16,000 exhibits. C. Bananas were introduced to the US by Alexander Bell. D. The banana is so popular in the US that it sells the best. 3. What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To share a travel plan with Margaret. B. To introduce unusual museums to readers. C. To compare some unusual museums. D. To tell Margaret which museums to visit. B Have you ever seen a town that looks like it is flying in the air? Have you ever wondered how people make their homes in places where building common houses is almost impossible? It sounds like a dream, but it’s real. In Yunnan, China, there’s a special town called Yanjin. It’s very long but also very narrow (狭窄)—tall mountains stand on both sides, and a fast river runs through the middle. With such little space, people couldn’t build common houses. They came up with a clever idea: their houses stand on huge, strong, thick sticks. These pillars go deep into the ground, as tall as a five- or six-story building. This special building is called the “stilt house”. It is very valuable as the river can sometimes be dangerous. When there is a lot of rain, the river rises high with water. But because the houses are so high up, they stay dry and safe. From far away, Yanjin seems to hang between mountains. It really looks amazing and beautiful. Life in this special town is also very different. There’s only one main road here, and every piece of land is used carefully. People here have turned their difficult home into a one-of-a-kind place, showing great creativity in the face of nature’s challenges (挑战). 4. How does the writer start the passage? A. By telling a story. B. By explaining a feeling. C. By raising a question. D. By offering some studies. 5. What does the “stilt house” look like according to the passage? A. B. C. D. 6. Why do the houses in Yanjin stand on thick sticks? A. To make the town look more beautiful. B. To show the smarts of the local people. C. To make it easier for people to walk around. D. To keep the houses safe from rising river water. 7. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. What Yanjin looks like and how creative people live there. B. Where Yanjin is located and what its environment is like. C. What the weather is like in Yanjin and how people face rain. D. How people in Yanjin built stilt houses and why the houses are safe. C All day long the little boy, Richard, worked hard in the fields with his farmer family. But at sunset there came an hour that was all his own. He’d climb a nearby hill and look across at a faraway house on another hill with its windows shining like gold. One day, his father called him over. “You’ve been a good boy and earned a holiday. Take today for yourself, but remember—time is valuable, and learn something good.” The boy thanked his father, kissed his mother, put some bread in his pocket, and set off to find the house with golden windows. It was pleasant walking at first. By and by he got hungry, so he sat by a stream and ate his bread. Then he fed bread to the birds, just like his mother taught him. After a long time, he reached the hill with the house. But he felt very disappointed—its windows were just glass. No gold at all. He almost cried. A kind woman came, asked what he wanted and laughed softly when he talked about the golden windows. “We’re poor farmers, too.” she said, and handed him milk and cake, then called her daughter who was about his age. “You came to the wrong house! Follow me.” the little girl said excitedly and took him to a hill behind the farm. “They only shine at sunset.” At the top, she turned and pointed. There, on a far hill, stood his own house—its windows shining like gold! The way home was long and dark. But the lamplight and firelight shone through the windows, making them almost as bright as he had seen them from the hilltop. “Have you learned anything?” asked his father. “Yes,” the boy smiled. “Our house has windows of gold.” 8. What does the underlined word “earned” probably mean? A. Got for free. B. Asked for politely. C. Worked hard to get. D. Received by chance. 9. What did the little girl show to the boy on the hill? A. The girl’s house. B. The boy's house. C. The shining sunset. D. A house with windows made of gold. 10. Which is the correct order of the following events? ①The boy’s father gave him a holiday. ②The boy fed bread to birds by a stream. ③The boy climbed a hill every sunset to look at the gold windows. ④The boy said goodbye to his parents and set out to find the golden windows. ⑤The girl showed the boy that his own home was the golden-window house. A. ①③④⑤② B. ③①④②⑤ C. ①④②③⑤ D. ③②④①⑤ 11. What can we learn from the story? A. Exploring can lead to surprising findings. B. Real friendship is more valuable than gold. C. Much in life depends on our point of view. D. We need to have a good sense of direction. D Sometimes our friends may do things that hurt our feelings. Sometimes we can see changes they need to make. But how can we talk to them about it? Are there any ways to make difficult conversations easier? First, it’s important to have clear evidence (证据) that there is actually a problem. Evidence that both people can agree upon makes it easier for others to see where the problem lies. Once you do have the evidence, the key is to pay attention to how it matters to us and to others. Psychologist Andrea Bonior suggests talking about problems with “I”. Saying “I feel hurt that you spend less time with me.” carries less anger than “You never spend time with me!” It pays greater attention to how things might happen to you. Second, keeping calm is especially helpful. Nervousness may lead to poor actions, which in turn can cause trouble. Bonior says that you should realize the conversation could make you nervous. If you think about this yourself, it can help you pay attention to good results. If you open up to friends about your nervous feelings, you will show a more human side. Laura Brennan points out we must stop holding fast to the need to show ourselves to be right. This can help reduce bad feelings. What’s more, we can also lower the chance of fighting by listening to the other person and asking questions. Many experts advise planning your words, so that you can say things in a way that avoids fighting. However, Bonior warns against overplanning, because this stops you from being able to change and really join the discussion. Finally, choose the right time and place. Starting private conversations in a hurry or in public places can easily put your friends out of their comfort zone. Look for a moment when you are both relaxed and a calm, personal place lets both of you speak openly and listen carefully. As communication expert Dr. Samuel Miller advises, “The place and time you choose for a conversation can be as important as what you say.” 12. What does the underlined “this” in paragraph 3 refer to? A. The need to stop always trying to win or lose. B. The value of keeping your feelings under control. C. The fact that the talk might make you feel worried. D. The idea that we should choose the right time and place. 13. Where might be the right place to start a private conversation? A. At a crowded shopping center. B. In a school hallway between classes. C. On a playground while doing exercise. D. In your own room when no one else is at home. 14. What’s the structure of the passage? A. B. C. D. 15. What’s the best title of the passage? A. The Golden Rules for a Perfect Friendship B. How to Solve All Your Friendship Problems C. Tips for Having Difficult Talks with Friends D. The Importance of Listening to Your Friends 第二节 任务型阅读(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面材料,从方框中所给的A-E五个选项中选出正确选项 (其中一项是多余选项),将其序号填入第1-4小题,并回答第5小题。 Start the journey of making a to-do list It’s easy to get nervous when you have a lot on your plate. I strongly recommend the Mid-autumn Festival. It usually falls on August 15th of the lunar calendar. It is a time for family reunion and appreciating the harvest. For the party, I have designed two meaningful activities. First, we can teach friends to make mooncakes. It allows them to experience the charm of Chinese food culture hands-on. Second, guessing lantern riddles is a great choice. It is not only interesting but also helps them learn more about Chinese language and history. I hope my suggestion will be considered.
