A French sinologist (汉学家), wearing a customized tie with Chinese characters, gave a speech about a course on the Dongba script (文字) in the form of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
The Dongba script, a pictographic (象形的) writing system of the Naxi ethnic minority group in Southwest China’s Yunnan Province, is the world’s only pictographic script system still in use today. There are about 1,400 characters in total.
In 2003, the Dongba script was added to the UNESCO Memory of the World Register. With a population of about 300,000 people, only over 400 individuals among the Naxi ethnic group are still able to recognize and use the Dongba script.
China has made significant efforts to preserve the Dongba script. Launched in 2023, the course aims to guide learners to understand the Dongba script and contributes to its protection. It has attracted more than 2,000 students from 80 countries and regions in the first-round enrollment.
More efforts have been made to change the situation. In 2024, an intelligent translation system for the Dongba script was jointly developed and launched by a group of universities and the local research institution. The system can help to recognize and translate the Dongba manuscripts in a simple way.
A professor at Nanjing Normal University said that the preservation of many ethnic minority languages and cultural heritage wasn’t systematic in the past. However, with the use of digital methods, the new guideline now helps protect the languages and pass them on.
4. Which number best shows the urgent situation of the Dongba script?
A. 80. B. 400.
C. 1,400. D. 300,000.
5. What is the purpose of the course on the Dongba script?
A. To provide insights into the local culture.
B. To support the preservation of the language.
C. To help teachers give lessons on the language.
D. To share the latest findings about the language.
6. What does the professor think of the use of digital methods in language protection?
A. It is only suitable for some languages.
B. It shouldn’t replace the traditional way.
C. It can reduce the cost of language protection.
D. It helps protect languages in a well-organized way.
7. What does this text mainly talk about?
A. The present situation of the Dongba script.
B. An international platform for the Dongba script.
C. The use of technology in studying the Dongba script.
D. Joint efforts made so far to protect the Dongba script.
B 5. B 6. D 7. D

根据第三段中“With a population of about 300,000 people, only over 400 individuals among the Naxi ethnic group are still able to recognize and use the Dongba script. (纳西族人口约为30万,目前只有400多人还能认识和使用东巴文。)”可知,数字“400”表明能识别和使用东巴文的人很少,最能体现东巴文的紧迫现状。故选B项。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“Launched in 2023, the course aims to guide learners to understand the Dongba script and contributes to its protection. (该课程于2023年推出,旨在帮助学习者理解东巴文,并为其保护贡献力量。)”可知,东巴文课程的目的是支持对这种语言的保护。故选B项。
【6题详解】

However, with the use of digital methods, the new guideline now helps protect the languages and pass them on.
通读全文,尤其是第四段中“China has made significant efforts to preserve the Dongba script. (中国为保护东巴文字做出了巨大的努力。)”和第五段中“More efforts have been made to change the situation. (为了改变这种状况,已经做出了更多的努力。)”可知,文章第一段通过法国汉学家介绍东巴文课程引入话题,第二、三段介绍了东巴文及其面临的严峻局面,第四、五段讲到了中国在保护东巴文方面所做的各种努力,最后一段援引一位教授的话,说明数字方法在保护东巴文等方面的作用。由此可知,本文主要讨论的是迄今为止为保护东巴文所做的多方努力。故选D项。
C
On a cool December afternoon a group of women are sitting in a circle on the grass, singing and clapping.
They are part of the “hargila army”, a group of rural women in the Indian state of Assam who work to protect one of the world’s rarest storks (鹳): the greater adjutant — or hargila as the scavenger bird (食腐肉的鸟) is known locally. They are celebrating the UN Environment Programme’s Champions of the Earth award, presented to the group’s biologist founder, Dr Purnima Devi Barman.
The greater adjutant, a member of the stork family that can grow up to 1.5 meters tall, was once common throughout South Asia. But its eccentric features — a featherless (无毛的) head, striking pale eyes and long skinny legs — and its smelly droppings — won it few fans. Villagers attacked them with stones and burned their nests.
Today the greater adjutant is endangered, with fewer than 1,200 adult birds in its last strongholds Most of the global population is found in Assam, making Barman and the hargila army’s work critical to its survival.
Several years ago, Barman began teaching the villagers about the birds’ importance. In response, she was asked to clean the smelly mess herself. The unfriendliness she faced made her realize that to save the bird, she first needed to change the community’s attitude to it. And it was the women who Barman believed held the key to community-led conservation. The problem was they were tied to their homes and household chores. So Barman found ways to bring them out where she could talk to them. She began organizing cooking competitions of traditional sweets, where she befriended the women and talked about the birds.
By 2014, the conservation movement had gathered speed and the hargila army was soon born. “Conservation is all about uniting people and building ownership,” says Barman. “I’ve always believed that, if given a chance, women can make a big difference in conservation.” Today, the bird is now a cultural symbol, appearing on everything from towels to road-safety campaigns.
8. What does the underlined word “eccentric” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Useful. B. Attractive. C. Important. D. Strange.
9. How did Barman change the women’s attitude to the birds?
A. By introducing strict laws against harming the storks.
B. By creating interactive ways to connect with them.
C. By organizing educational campaigns for them.
D. By cleaning up the birds’ mess herself.
10. How does Barman sound in the last paragraph?
A. Academic. B. Humorous. C. Confident. D. Formal.
11. Which would be the best title for the text?
A. How the greater adjutant struggled to survive B. How India protected species under threat.
C. How women saved India’s rarest storks D. How an all-women army formed
D 9. B 10. C 11. C
根据划线词后文“a featherless (无毛的) head, striking pale eyes and long skinny legs — and its smelly droppings — won it few fans(光秃的脑袋、醒目的苍白眼睛和细长瘦弱的腿——还有它那难闻的粪便——让它几乎没赢得多少粉丝)”可知,描述鹳光秃秃头部、怪异外形,故划线词意思是“奇怪的”。
根据倒数第二段“She began organizing cooking competitions of traditional sweets, where she befriended the women and talked about the birds.(她开始组织传统甜点烹饪比赛,期间结识了许多女性,并与她们聊起了关于鸟类的话题)”可知,巴曼通过创造互动的方式建立联系改变女性对鸟类的态度。
根据最后一段“I’ve always believed that, if given a chance, women can make a big difference in conservation.(我一直相信,如果给予机会,女性在保护工作中能够发挥重要作用)”可知,Barman听起来是自信的。
根据第二段“They are part of the “hargila army”, a group of rural women in the Indian state of Assam who work to protect one of the world’s rarest storks (鹳): the greater adjutant — or hargila as the scavenger bird (食腐肉的鸟) is known locally. They are celebrating the UN Environment Programme’s Champions of the Earth award, presented to the group’s biologist founder, Dr Purnima Devi Barman.(她们是 “哈吉拉军团” 的成员。
D
For most people, their goal is to work hard, save money and retire early. But a “soft saving” trend (趋势) is developing among younger workers, challenging the traditional way of thinking. Soft saving refers to putting less money into the future and using more of it for the present.
Generation Z — a generation that puts experiences before money — is leading the so-called soft saving wave, according to the Prosperity Index Study by Intuit. “Soft saving is the soft life’s answer to finances,” said the report. A “soft life” is a lifestyle that focuses on comfort and low stress, prioritizing (优先考虑) personal growth and mental wellness.
Three in four Gen Z would rather have a better quality of life than extra money in their banks, the Intuit report shows.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Americans are saving less in 2023, which can mirror the soft saving trend. One of the reasons is the rebound (反弹) from the COVID-19 pandemic, said Ryan Viktorin, a financial advisor of Fidelity Investments, a financial services company.
“As Americans spent significantly less during the pandemic in the last two to three years, people are likely to spend a lot more now to make up for lost time,” Viktorin said. “Additionally, inflation (通货膨胀) makes it harder for people to cover their costs or save.”
The drop in personal savings also reflects a change in financial goals among workers today.
Retirement is the final step for most workers. Traditionally, retiring means leaving the workforce for good. However, experts found that the very definition of retirement is changing between generations.
Most of Gen Z are actually not looking to retire early — and some don’t want to retire at all, the Intuit report shows. About 41% of Gen Z are significantly more likely to want to do some form of paid work during retirement.
12. What does the new trend lead to?
A. Less savings. B. Less working time.
C. More work pressure. D. More financial problems.
13. What does Gen Z value more?
A. A well-paid job. B. A good quality of life.
C. Well-supported future. D. Flexible working style.
14. How do Viktorin’s words explain the soft saving trend?
A. By analyzing its limitations.
B. By discussing the significance of it.
C. By introducing the factors behind it.
D. By describing its future development.
15. Which statement might Gen Z agree with according to the last paragraph?
A. Putting off retirement slows workforce development.
B. Retirement time should be determined by age.
C. Take every opportunity to retire early.
D. Keep working after retiring.
A 13. B 14. C 15. D
根据第一段中的“Soft saving refers to putting less money into the future and using more of it for the present.(软储蓄指为未来存更少的钱,把更多钱用在当下。)”
根据第三段中的“Three in four Gen Z would rather have a better quality of life than extra money in their banks, the Intuit report shows.(财捷集团的报告显示,四分之三的Z世代宁愿拥有更好的生活质量,也不愿银行账户里有多余存款。)”
根据第五段中的““As Americans spent significantly less during the pandemic in the last two to three years, people are likely to spend a lot more now to make up for lost time,” Viktorin said. “Additionally, inflation (通货膨胀) makes it harder for people to cover their costs or save.”(维可托林说:“过去两三年疫情期间美国人开销大幅减少,如今人们很可能会大量消费弥补逝去时光。此外,通货膨胀让人们更难负担开支或是存钱。”)”可知,维可托林分析了催生软储蓄趋势的相关因素,因此,Viktorin的话是通过介绍软储蓄趋势背后的因素来解释这一现象的。
【15题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“About 41% of Gen Z are significantly more likely to want to do some form of paid work during retirement.(大约41%的Z世代更希望在退休期间从事某种有报酬的工作。)”

根据空前的“If you want to prepare career plans and goals, you need to ensure you avoid any mistakes in making resolutions. As you focus on career growth, establish clear and achievable objectives.(如果你想要制定职业规划和目标,你需要确保在确立目标时规避所有错误。当你专注于职业发展时,要设立清晰且可实现的目标。)”可知,前文点明制定职业目标要规避错误,下文依次列举多种具体错误类型,此空需要起到过渡作用,引出下文的分点论述。B选项“To help you stay on track, we’ve outlined key mistakes to avoid.(为了帮助你步入正轨,我们列出了需要规避的主要错误。)”
根据空前的“A common mistake in defining career objectives is failing to start with a clear purpose.(确立职业目标的一个常见错误就是没有以明确的初衷作为出发点。)”以及空后的“As a result, the ideals set are only shaped to match the expectations of other people, not what you really want.(结果就是,设立的理想只是为了迎合他人的期待,而非你内心真正想要的。)” E选项“This mistake often arises because of the idea that pursuing dreams is competition.(这种错误的产生往往源于把追逐梦想看作一场竞争的想法。)”
根据本段小标题“Not learning from failure(不从失败中吸取教训)”以及空前的“Therefore, every time you experience failure, accept it gracefully and learn from it.(因此,每当你遭遇失败,坦然接受并从中吸取教训。)” F选项“A great quality entrepreneurs have is the ability to turn every mistake into a lesson.(创业者具备的一项优秀品质就是把每一次错误转化为经验教训。)”中的turn every mistake into a lesson和空前的learn from it语义相呼应,进一步阐释要从错误当中学习,契合本段小标题的主旨,符合语境。
根据本段小标题“Not reviewing progress(不审视自身进展)”以及空后的“The process of achieving goals is a long journey. If you don’t examine the progress that has been made, the journey itself will soon become tiring.(实现目标是一段漫长的过程。如果你不去审视已经取得的进展,这段奋斗之路很快就会令人疲惫。)”可知,本空是段首句,需要总括本段介绍的错误。G选项“Overlooking your progress is a frequent error that can discourage your career aspirations.(忽视自身进展是一个常见错误,它会打击你的职业抱负。)”中的Overlooking your progress与小标题Not reviewing progress表达含义一致,a frequent error点明这是一种错误,总领后面的解释说明,符合语境。
根据本段小标题“Creating resolutions or goals that cannot be measured(制定无法衡量的决心或目标)”以及空后的“For example, instead of aiming to “build a business,” define your goal as “create a consultancy offering accounting services to startups.” This specificity helps you develop a detailed, actionable plan.(例如,不要把目标定为“创办一家企业”,而要将目标明确为“创办一家为初创企业提供会计服务的咨询公司”。这种明确性有助于你制定详尽可行的计划。)”中的For example可知,空格处为观点句,后面用例子对观点加以佐证。D选项“Measurable goals allow you to track progress and make adjustments easily.(可衡量的目标能让你追踪进展,并且轻松做出调整。)”

Kevin was pretty bored. His mother was at work, and his father had been away on business. Therefore, he was left in the care of Mrs. Hill, an old lady who lived next door. His parents had raised the 12-year-old to be a good boy. He never got into trouble, though sometimes he wanted to do risky things. Mrs. Hill was asleep. Kevin sighed (叹息) and hoped something exciting would happen. Suddenly, a movement outside caught his eye.
Mrs. Hill’s front window faced Mr. and Mrs. Green’s house across the street. The couple had both gone to work, so it was strange that someone was over there. Kevin stared at the man at their front door. Suddenly, the man jumped through an open window into the house. With his heart in his mouth, Kevin grabbed Mrs. Hill’s home phone and called the police.
Thinking that the man might get away with whatever he wanted before the police arrived, Kevin decided to do something. He rushed out of Mrs. Hill’s house and crossed the street quickly. Grabbing a branch from a cut-down tree, he jumped in through the window. “Stop right there! You must leave right now!” he called out, holding the branch with both hands.
The man froze for a second, but when he saw the skinny boy he breathed a sigh of relief. “Hey, kid, put that down. It was my home. My parents used to live here and my father’s watch was here,” he explained, trying to lift a floorboard.
At that moment, the sounds of a police car echoed (回响) in the air. The man stood up in a panic, then ran through the house toward the window and jumped out. Kevin followed out and told the arriving police officers what had happened. They pursued and arrested the man.
Kevin went back to Mrs. Hill’s house. Somehow he wasn’t sure he had done the right thing. “What if he has told the truth?” he thought to himself. The man’s words sounded pretty convincing.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
When Mr. and Mrs. Green got home, Kevin went to talk to them. He explained how he had witnessed the strange man entering their house and how he was arrested. Mr. and Mrs. Green listened attentively, with a mixture of surprise and gratitude on their faces. Mrs. Green hugged Kevin, thanking him for his bravery. Mr. Green, however, looked thoughtful. He asked Kevin to describe the man in detail and then revealed that the man was indeed his younger brother, who had come to retrieve a watch their father had left behind. Kevin's eyes widened in shock.
Kevin and Mr. Green took the watch they had found to the police station. On the way, Mr. Green explained that the watch was a family heirloom, passed down from generation to generation. At the police station, they explained the situation to the officers, who were surprised but understanding. The man, who had been released after his identity was verified, was waiting outside. He smiled weakly at Kevin, who felt a mix of embarrassment and relief. Mr. Green handed over the watch to his brother with a pat on the back, and they all agreed to keep in touch. Kevin learned an important lesson that day: always verify the facts before taking action, but never hesitate to help those in need.
