Step 1 Leading in

1.Greet the class and present some sentences with connecting words from the reading article.

2.Lead in the grammar points:words and phrases used to connect ideas,object clauses introduced by that.

Step 2 Presentation:Connecting ideas

1.Let students read the texts and pay attention to the words and phrases in bold.

2.Explain the meanings and functions of the connecting words and phrases in A.

3.Explain subject⁃verb agreement when the expressions connect two subjects.

4.Present examples from the textbook and ask students to compare the meanings and verb forms.

Step 3 Practice

1.Work on A1

(1)Ask students to complete Amy’s sentences about her family with the correct connecting words or phrases.

(2)Check the answers and ask students to explain the meaning expressed in each sentence.

2.Work on A2

(1)Let students complete the conversation between Amy and Suzy about their classmates’ future jobs with suitable connecting words or phrases.

(2)Check the answers and highlight subject⁃verb agreement and the difference between addition,choice and exclusion.

3.Work on A3

(1)Organize students to talk with a partner about what jobs their classmates can do in the future,using the connecting expressions they have learnt.

(2)Invite several pairs to share and correct common errors together.
