Say No to Seat Saving,Make Room for Everyone
Recently, seat saving has become a common problem in our school library. Some students leave their
books or personal belongings on desks for a long time while they are away, making it difficult for others to
find a place to study.
In my opinion, seat saving should be discouraged because it affects both fairness and campus
responsibility.First, library seats are public resources that should be shared equally.During exam periods,
many students have to spend extra time searching for seats while some desks remain unused.Moreover.
the way we use shared spaces reflects our sense of responsibility.Respecting others means considering
their needs as well.
Therefore,I call on all students to use library resources properly.Let us create a fairer and more
comfortable learning environment together.

"Why don't you choose one bonsai to take home?"Mrs.Potter suggested.Without thinking twice,
Matt walked straight to the smallest bonsai with the tiny bud he had noticed before.I'd like this one,"he
said with a smile.Mrs.Potter carefully placed it in his hands and reminded him that good things took time
and patient care. From then on,watering the bonsai became part of Matt's daily routine.Every morning,he
checked the little bud before leaving for school, and every evening,he quietly watched it by the window.
Day by day,as the tiny plant grew stronger, the city around him seemed a little warmer, and he no longer
missed the countryside quite as much.
Days later,Matt knocked on Mrs.Potter's door and called,"The bud bloomed!"The door opened
quickly,and Mrs.Potter greeted him with a gentle smile.Holding the bonsai carefully,Matt proudly
showed her the tiny flower. He excitedly told her how he had moved it to catch more sunlight and watered
it with patience every day."You made this happen,Matt,"Mrs.Potter said warmly."You brought a little
piece of nature into your home, and its roots have quietly reached your heart."At those words,Matt
suddenly realized that the peace of nature was never limited to the distant forest. It could also be found in a
tiny bonsai growing quietly in a city apartment.Looking at the little flower,he felt warmth spread through
him,and for the first time since moving,he truly belonged.

Growing up in Campana,my father's workshop felt like a magical world. The smell of
metal, the sound of machines, and his work-worn clothes left a deep impression on me.It was
there that I learned to turn discarded car parts into toys that fueled my childhood
adventures.
Now I'm a PE teacher.I've brought my childhood love of creating into the classroom by
building metal models from discarded metal parts that show how the human body moves in
sports-all without using electricity. These moving sculptures have become my teaching tools,
capturing complex motions in slow,easy-to-see detail.Over time,my creations have grown:
from a skateboard model to El Dibu Martinez's famous World Cup save, from a metal rock band
to a wheeled dinosaur. Each piece reflects the beauty of movement.
At school,I used to notice students always staring at their phones during breaks. But things
changed when they became engaged with my projects. One memorable activity was when we

made small boats from waste and tested whether they would float in water-filled containers. In
that moment, the screens were forgotten, replaced by the excitement of discovery.
Another meaningful project came when a mother asked me to adapt a prosthetic
arm for her son Juan.Using just a simple plastic bucket,I created a working design. The moment
Juan wore the arm,he began picking things up and handing them to me.We laughed together to
celebrate the amazing moment.
To support these projects,my weekly routine now includes searching for materials in
garbage dumps.With a limited budget,this is still necessary.But I see a bright side.We're not
only saving resources but also giving new life to discarded materials in creative ways.
The smell of metal still takes me back to my father's workshop. What he gave me was more
than skills-he taught me that nothing is useless until we stop imagining what it could become.

Today,it seems normal for children to play in playgrounds with adults watching over them.
But a little over a century ago, childhood in America looked very different:children wandered
the streets and fields freely, making up their own rules and settling their own conflicts with little
adult involvement.
As industrialization and city growth sped up,however, the safety of children in crowded
cities became a growing concern.The "playground movement"came into being.In 1885,Boston
introduced the first"sand gardens"-special areas where children could play under adult watch.
The idea spread quickly.By 1903,when New York City opened its first public playground, more
高三英语试卷第3页共10页
than 2,000 children showed up on opening day.
Supporters held a core belief:"The playground of today is the republic (of
tomorrow."To them, with adults watching over and clear rules to follow, these spaces were more
than just safe places;they were where children learned the discipline and cooperation that would
serve them well as members of society.
Yet the movement carried a less visible cost. The playground drew a clear line on the map.
Inside was safe, protected childhood;outside was danger and the disorderly adult world. The
playground kept them safe, but it also separated them from the wider social world.
Once drawn, that line has never disappeared.Sociologists point out a central puzzle of
modern childhood:we work harder than ever to protect children, yet we may be reducing the
space they need to grow.As child development expert Lenore Skenazy puts it,it is through
independent activity that children learn to assess risk, handle disagreements, and face troubles by
themselves. As the boundaries of childhood grow tighter,we might ask:in protecting children
from the unknown, are we also keeping them from growing up?Safety matters, but so does the
chance to grow in the real world. The task, perhaps,is not to erase the line, but to learn where to
draw it.

As global temperatures continue to rise, the demand for air conditioning is growing rapidly.
高三英语试卷第4页共10页
According to the International Energy Agency, traditional air conditioning uses about 20%of all
electricity consumed by buildings worldwide, and most of this energy comes from fossil fuels.
Clearly, our comfort is coming at too high a cost.
Interestingly, the solution might come from an unexpected source:termite mounds().
These structures, built by tiny insects using mud and plant fibers, are considered engineering
wonders in nature.Even in hot and dry environments, termite mounds can remain relatively cool
inside, with air circulating()through their internal structures without any external power source.
But how do they achieve this?Scientists have long been puzzled by this question. To
investigate, researchers David Andreen and Rupert Soar carried out a study. They proposed that
slight changes in the airflow above the mound create uneven air movements inside it.These air
movements, they believed, help drive air through the network and contribute to maintaining a
suitable internal environment.
The team built simple 3D-printed models based on the narrow, interconnected channel
networks found inside termite mounds. They also built a second set of models with straight
channels of the same length. When the researchers applied gentle air movements to one end,air
flowed through the branching network with significantly less resistance than through the straight
channels, just as they had predicted. This suggested that it was the complex structure, rather than
the total channel length, that improved airflow.By making air movement more efficient, the
structure helps termite mounds regulate their internal conditions and remain comfortable living
spaces even in extreme environments.
According to the researchers, this structure could be incorporated into building walls in the
future.Unlike traditional air conditioning, which relies on fans and consumes large amounts of
energy, this system would require only tiny amounts of power to control airflow."This might be
groundbreaking,"said Andreen."For the first time,we may be able to design buildings that
breathe like living organisms rather than function like machines. The potential is enormous if we
continue to explore what nature has to offer."
12.What phenomenon is described in paragraph 1?
A.The inefficient use of electricity.
B.The heavy dependence on fossil fuels.
C.The growing impact of climate change.D.The unsustainability of traditional cooling.
13.Why are termite mounds described as"engineering wonders"?
A.They can stay naturally cool.
B.They are built by tiny insects.
C.They have power sources inside.
D.They are made of renewable materials.

14.Why did the team build straight-channel models?
A.To measure the speed of airflow
B.To reduce the resistance of channels.
C.To observe how air traveled through channels.
D.To test whether the structure influenced airflow.
15.What does the underlined phrase "breathe like living organisms"in the last paragraph mean?
A.Function effectively with sufficient energy.
B.Provide fresh air through electronic controls.
C.Circulate automatically by built-in structures
D.Adjust airflow by energy-efficient machines.

Many people worry that AI will take away human jobs. However, this fear misses a more
important issue. The real problem is not AI itself, but our obsession with immediate results,a
problem that AI is now making worse.
16 What can be measured is prioritized, while what takes time is ignored. As a
result,we lose sight of the deeper purpose of work and the value of human judgment.
Consider how this plays out in the natural world.Trees that last for centuries grow slowly,
develop deep roots, and rely on strong connections.17 In contrast,fast-growing trees
focus on quick height gain, but develop weak wood and shallow roots. When storms come, they
fall first.
Human work follows the same principle. But in the age of Al,something even more
troubling emerges:we are losing the space to make mistakes. When an AI tool provides an
instant answer,we skip the struggle of trial and error, slow reflection and learning from failure.
Yet it is through this very struggle, with all its confusion and uncertainty, that we learn, fail, and
rise again.18
Choosing to slow down, keeping people involved, and valuing judgment over speed are not
weaknesses.19 They allow us to reflect and keep our human abilities, even in an age
dominated by efficiency.
Every generation faces a similar moment:the printing press, the train, and the assembly line
)20 Yet beneath the surface, they raise the same questions for every era:are we

being shaped by our tools,or are we choosing what truly matters? The real question has never
been whether technology will replace us,but whether we can return to what truly matters. We are
not our tools. We never have been.
A.But this time, things are totally different.
B.Real learning rarely happens without pain.
C.Instead, they are deliberate acts of wisdom.
D.Each innovation brought excitement and fear.
E.This slow, quiet growth gives them lasting power.
F.This painful mess makes us less efficient but more human.
G.Efficiency has long been crowding out what truly matters.

Mum and Matt lived in the country next to a forest.Every weekend, they took walks
through the forest.
But everything changed after Mum found a new job in the city. They said goodbye to the
trees and birds and moved to an apartment far from nature. They went to the park, but there were
lots of people. It was hard to hear the birds when everybody was talking and laughing.Matt
missed the peaceful countryside badly and could never feel at home in the busy city.
One afternoon, there was a knock on their door.It was Mrs.Potter, their elderly neighbour.
She was holding a large, potted tree."I'm trying to bring this bonsai home, but it's too heavy for
me,"said Mrs.Potter with a warm smile.
"Of course we can help,"Mum replied right away.
"It's lovely,"said Matt, looking at it with admiration."It reminds me of the forest back
home.”
高三英语试卷第9页共10页
When Mrs.Potter opened the door to her apartment,Matt was surprised. It wasn't a typical
apartment at all.It was a tiny hidden forest!Dozens of trees sat in various pots, their green
branches filling every corner with the calmness of wild woods. As Mum set down the bonsai,
Matt immediately spotted a tiny bud (on the smallest bonsai.Growing up around wild
plants,Matt knew this bud would not bloom (right away.It would need days of steady care.
Still,it held new life, growing quietly in the city.
"We can still keep trees around us even in the city,"Mum told him softly."These potted
greens are smaller, but they bring the same comfort as the forest trees you loved."
Mrs.Potter nodded in agreement."Exactly,Matt.Nature has a way of finding us,wherever
we are.Big trees grow in open forests, and little trees live in small pots, but both can bring peace
to our hearts.I believe you will find your own joy here."
Matt looked around the tiny forest and felt something shift inside him,a feeling he couldn't
quite name, but it made him feel less like a visitor.
