M: Don’t look so worried. We’ve just had the results of the photo competition. You’ve won first prize.
W: What? I wasn’t expecting this.
【Text 2】
M: Henry had never expected he would be awarded a holiday abroad. That’s awesome.
W: Work hard and you will have the luck. Our boss has always been friendly and generous to hard-working workers.
【Text 3】
W: Oh, dear. I can’t find my necklace now. I remember I put it in the sitting room.
M: It is in the bedroom. You left it here when our daughter called you to the kitchen.
【Text 4】
M: We have to find a parking space. Let’s drive around the block one more time. Did you say the restaurant has no off-street parking at all?
W: None, I checked it. Look, there’s a space.
【Text 5】
W: You have to take three buses to get to the park. The subway is more expensive but you just need to take two.
M: Buses take too long. The subway is fast but I am afraid of getting lost in the subway station. I will stick with the taxi.

M: Of course, madam. This just came yesterday. It’s pretty old, but it’s still in great shape. You can see handmade details everywhere.
W: Oh, I love this style. It reminds me a little of what my grandmother used to wear: simple things that were not too fancy.
M: Would you like to try it on?
W: Maybe I can just check...yeah, just what I thought: a little out of my price range. Thank you, though!
M: My pleasure! Let me know if I can help you after my break.
【Text 7】
W: You look upset, John.
M: Well, I’m broke. I tried to ask my boss for a pay raise but it didn’t work. What am I going to do?
W: If I were you, I’d get a job that pays more money.
M: Oh, why didn’t I think of that? Thanks, Lucy. But it doesn’t help me now.
W: Well, then, you’d better get a loan from the bank.
M: No, I couldn’t do that. I owe them too much already.
W: Why don’t you ask your parents? They’d help you.
M: No. I’d rather sort out my problems on my own.
W: Oh. Well, I suppose I could lend you some.
M: Really? That would be great! Thanks, Lucy. You’re a real mate. I’ll pay it back, honest!

M: You are just stressed out, because you have to give a presentation next week.
W: You’re right. Do you think I need to see a doctor and take sleeping pills?
M: There’s no need to do so for the time being. You can do yoga before going to bed or go for a walk after supper. And remember not to drink strong tea or coffee before bedtime.
W: I’ll have a try. Thanks a lot.
M: You’re welcome. You also gave me much assistance when we signed the contract with the clients last time.
【Text 9】
W: Hello, Mr. Tompkins. Our newspaper will carry some information about new products. Now, will you tell us about the new home your company has built? It promises to be a model for the houses of the future.
M: Certainly. The idea is not to have a house full of different things. This is a complete home system. It will make people’s lives easier.
W: OK. So tell me how this house will make my life easier.
M: When you arrive at the front door, you won’t need a key. The door will open with a touch of your finger. You will be able to call your refrigerator when you’re in the supermarket and find how much you need to buy. Isn’t it wonderful?
W: Can I call the washing machine as well?
M: Sure. But you won’t need to. The house comes with a robot. It is programmed to do cleaning and washing.
W: And what’s the price of the new house?
M: A million dollars.
W: A million dollars! It will be the 22nd century before I can afford to buy one!
【Text 10】
M: Hello everyone. Now I’ll tell you about our trips. On Monday, you will have a forest walk. It’s a guided walk of about seven kilometers. There’ll be a stop halfway, and you’ll be provided with a drink and sandwiches. There are some fairly steep climbs up the hills, so you need to be reasonably fit for this one and bring a waterproof jacket in case it rains. Then on Tuesday we organize a cycle trip, which will give you all the fun of biking without the effort. We will take you and your bike up to the top of Mount Lama, and leave you to bike back to the camp. It’s a pity that you may not have fantastic views because it isn’t a clear day according to the forecast. On Wednesday you’ll be taken to a factory where jewelry is made. If you want, you can buy some of the souvenirs but that’s entirely up to you. The trip starts after lunch, and you’ll return by 6 pm.On Thursday we can offer trips to the observatory for those who are interested in astronomy. And you’ll be shown the huge telescopes and have a talk from an expert, who’ll explain all about how they work. Finally, the last day, there’s horse riding. It’s a great experience if you’re a keen horseback rider, or even if you’ve never been on a horse before. They take you down to the beach, and you can ride a horse along the sand and through the waves.

Ladies and gentlemen, today, I stand before you to talk about AI, Artificial Intelligence, a force that is reshaping our world.
On the one hand, AI has brought numerous benefits in such fields as healthcare, education, and environmental protection. It can boost efficiency in industries and enhance the quality of daily life. On the other hand, AI poses challenges. If left unchecked, it could lead to the risks of privacy invasion and unemployment.
Personally, I believe AI is a blessing, but I also want to see sound regulations to mitigate its risks. Used ethically, AI's benefits can far outweigh its threats, leading us to a better future.
Thank you.
67.
Paragraph 1: A few months ago, Uncle Edward came up with a good idea and bought a robotic dog for Grandma Agnes. It was equipped with voice control and motion sensors, and it also had black and white spots, just like Snoopy. To our delight, Grandma Agnes quickly treated it as her new Snoopy and believed that it was a real dog. It was heartwarming to see the warmth and care that she treated the robot dog with, which made us realize how happy she was. Grandma would pat him gently, hug him when sitting on the chair, and she even took him for a walk in the yard.
Paragraph 2: Everyone in our family was pleased that Grandma Agnes had been so kind to the robot dog. Grandma Agnes started preparing food and water for him every day. The wild cats from the surrounding forest would ensure the food and water disappeared in a timely manner. Sometimes, when he stayed quietly at the same place for a little bit longer, Grandma would call Uncle Edward immediately. She was afraid that Snoopy was ill. However, Uncle Edward knew that it was just time to change battery. Our whole family was really grateful for that robot dog. Through him, we could see the love that my grandma had given Snoopy for all those years.

根据文章第三段中的“It has high-quality video and face recognition. Its camera can recognize and remember faces.”
根据文章第四段中的“You can adjust the brightness...change in music and videos being played.”
24 答案:A
But don't expect it to show up in too many driveways. It's expected to cost $279,000."
And it won't help if you're stuck in traffic. The car needs a runway."
The government has already permitted the company to use special materials to make it easier for the vehicle to fly."
Terrafugia introduces the Transition to the public later this week at the New York Auto Show"臆造的选项,不能概括全文主旨;B项为文中细节信息;C项是根据最后一段中的"a requirement pilots would find relatively easy to meet"细节信息臆造的选项,非全文主旨。
根据第一段中的“It is, however, the first…Asian city state.”
30 答案:A
根据第四段中的“All residents will have access…residential blocks.”
错项分析:B项与该段中的“trash will be stored centrally, with monitors detecting when it needs to be collected”的信息不符;C项是对该段最后一句的错误理解,文章指电子显示屏会同时向居民公布他们对环境的影响,进而引起不同街区间的竞争;D项是对该段中“to reduce the so-called urban heat island effect”中事实的夸大描述。
It is meant to be…around the world."及"The Woven City…and artificial intelligence."
错项分析:A项是根据第一段中的“The project will involve…Japan' s Mount Fuji.”和第二段中的“The Woven City will aim to be a ‘living laboratory’”臆造的选项;B、C两项文中均未提及。
The company says the city's main…to produce additional electricity."
The company also says they welcome cooperation on the project with partners from business or education."
It is meant to…around the world."

Terrafugia Inc. said Monday that its new flying car has completed its first flight, bringing the company closer to its goal of selling the flying car within the next year. The vehicle — named the Transition — has two seats, four wheels and wings that fold up so it can be driven like a car. The Transition, which flew at 1400 feet for eight minutes last month, can reach around 70 miles per hour on the road and 115 in the air. It flies using a 23-gallon tank of gas and burns 5 gallons per hour in the air. On the ground, it gets 35 miles per gallon.
Around 100 people have already put down a $10,000 deposit to get a Transition when they go on sale, and those numbers will likely rise after Terrafugia introduces the Transition to the public later this week at the New York Auto Show. But don't expect it to show up in too many driveways. It's expected to cost $279,000. And it won't help if you're stuck in traffic. The car needs a runway.
Inventors have been trying to make flying cars since the 1930s, according to Robert Mann, an airline industry expert. But Mann thinks Terrafugia has come closer than anyone to making the flying car a reality. The government has already permitted the company to use special materials to make it easier for the vehicle to fly. The Transition is now going through crash tests to make sure it meets federal safety standards.
Mann said Terrafugia was helped by the Federal Aviation Administration's decision five years ago to create a separate set of standards for light sport aircraft, which are lower than those for pilots of larger planes. Terrafugia says an owner would need to pass a test and complete 20 hours of flying time to be able to fly the Transition, a requirement pilots would find relatively easy to meet.
24. What is the first paragraph mainly about?
A. The basic data of the Transition. B. The advantages of flying cars.
C. The potential market for flying cars. D. The designers of the Transition.
25. Why is the Transition unlikely to show up in too many driveways?
A. It causes traffic jams. B. It is difficult to operate.
C. It is very expensive. D. It burns too much fuel.
26. What is the government's attitude to the development of the flying car?
A. Cautious. B. Favorable. C. Ambiguous. D. Disapproving.
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. Flying Car at Auto Show B. The Transition's First Flight
C. Pilots' Dream Coming True D. Flying Car Closer to Reality

Promising 42,000 new homes across five residential districts, the eco-town of Tengah will be the 24th new settlement built by Singapore's government since World War II. It will be, however, the first with centralized cooling, automated trash collection and a car-free town center, which conservationists hope offers a road map for reducing carbon emissions by a large amount in the Southeast Asian city-state.
Although relatively small, with a population of under 6 million people, Singapore's per capita emissions are higher than those of the UK, China and neighboring Malaysia, according to the country's National Climate Change Secretariat. That's due, in part, to air conditioning, which accounts for more than a third of typical household energy consumption. Global warming will only exacerbate(使加剧)this dependence. The Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) has predicted that, by the end of this century, average daily temperatures in the city-state may be at least 34.1 degrees Celsius "almost every day" during the eight warmest months of the year.
As such, keeping cool will, increasingly, be a necessity for residents. Rather than demonizing(妖魔化)air conditioning, Tengah's planners have instead sought to reimagine it. Cold water, chilled using solar power, will be piped through the district's homes, meaning residents don't need to install inefficient outdoor AC condensers. According to the town's energy provider, SP Group, this will generate carbon dioxide savings equivalent to taking 4500 cars off the roads each year.
Planners used computer modeling to simulate wind flow and heat gain across the town, helping to reduce the so-called urban heat island effect. Elsewhere, "smart" lights will switch off when public spaces are unoccupied, and trash will be stored centrally, with monitors detecting when it needs to be collected. All residents will have access to the app allowing them to monitor their energy and water usage. Digital displays in each block will meanwhile inform occupants of their collective environmental impact, which could even encourage competition between residential blocks.
Regardless of whether the use of smart technology can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions or not, engaging residents with their own consumption could encourage behavioral change, according to Perrine Hamel, an assistant professor at Nanyang Technological University's Asian School of the Environment. "Changing behavior is going to be an integral part of achieving climate targets and, of course, urban design is the first way to affect and change behavior," she said.
28. What can we know about Tengah from paragraph 1?
A. It will offer free cars to every resident.
B. It will feature a sustainable urban design.
C. It will be the first eco-town in Southeast Asia.
D. It will be the biggest residential district in Singapore.
29. What is the purpose of paragraph 2?
A. To predict climate change in the future.
B. To warn people not to use air conditioning.
C. To explain the importance of conserving energy.
D. To stress the necessity of adopting efficient cooling.
30. What will happen to Tengah's residents according to paragraph 4?
A. They will be able to check their energy usage.
B. They will be required to sort garbage on their own.
C. They will be involved in various competitive activities.
D. They will no longer be affected by the urban heat island effect.
31. Why does Perrine Hamel think highly of smart urban design?
A. It helps efficiently reduce carbon emissions.
B. It promotes changes in people's behavior.
C. It encourages a decrease in energy consumption.
D. It brings more convenience to people's lives.

Japanese carmaker Toyota has announced plans to create a model "city of the future". The project will involve "building a complete city from the ground up" at the foot of Japan's Mount Fuji.
Toyota calls the project "Woven City". It is meant to be a model for creating "smart cities" around the world. A smart city is an area developed with high-speed Internet connectivity to link major information and communication systems. These systems — powered by data and sensors — can improve living conditions relating to things like energy, transportation and health. The Woven City will aim to be a "living laboratory" for technologies including self-driving systems, robotics, smart homes and artificial intelligence.
The city will cover about 70 hectares of land and is designed to hold around 2000 people. Residents could include Toyota employees and visiting researchers. In addition, the city will have its own police officers, fire and emergency services, and schools. City planners will divide the streets for different purposes. One part will be used for faster vehicle traffic. Another will be designed for people riding bicycles or motorcycles. A third part will be for walking.
The company says the city's main electrical power will come from hydrogen fuel technology. The city is planned to be fully sustainable(可持续的), with buildings made mostly of wood. Buildings will be made with solar equipment to produce additional electricity. Homes will be built with the latest human support technologies. Besides, they will be equipped with sensors and systems designed to observe and improve people's physical and mental health. The company also says they welcome cooperation on the project with partners from business or education.
32. What is Toyota's project "Woven City" mainly about?
A. Building more laboratories on Mount Fuji.
B. Improving living conditions in Japanese cities.
C. Promoting communication between smart cities.
D. Creating a smart city model with advanced technology.
33. What is the purpose of paragraph 3?
A. To present great changes in Japan. B. To show recent advances in robotics.
C. To introduce the Woven City in detail. D. To prove the importance of technology.
34. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. People will live longer in the future.
B. The city will be environmentally friendly.
C. Wooden buildings will be more suitable for living.
D. The company will carry out the project on its own.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. A Japanese Car Project B. Residents in the New City
C. A Model City of the Future D. Smart Cities Around the World

Grandma Agnes is ninety-nine years old and still lives in the same house where she has lived for more than sixty years. She was one of the thirteen children raised on a farm. Nowadays, she is rather set in her ways.
For twelve years, Grandma Agnes enjoyed the company of her dog, Snoopy. The black and white spotted dog was a constant presence in her home and her yard. During the time that she had Snoopy, Grandma Agnes started showing signs of dementia. My family worked together to keep her living independently in a safe environment.
My dad had to remove the battery from her car to keep her from using it, as her driver's license was still valid. I could see that this caused him a lot of pain. Every visit after that day, Grandma Agnes would insist that he buy her a new car battery because hers was dead again. Dad nodded and agreed to do it, knowing that the conversation would soon be forgotten.
Three years ago, Snoopy passed away. My dad, Aunt Carol and Uncle Edward thought of ways to ensure that Grandma Agnes would know that Snoopy was gone. They had a burial service in the backyard with Grandma. Uncle Edward printed a picture of Snoopy with "Rest in Peace" written across the bottom and stuck it to the refrigerator. But on the daily visits, Grandma Agnes still asked about Snoopy. She accused the neighbors of taking her dog because she was sure that she had heard him barking in their yard.
Having a family member with dementia is heartbreaking. Whenever I have visited my grandma over the past five years, my dad has always made a point to tell me that she probably wouldn't remember who I was or that my kids are her great grandchildren. I've sat through conversations where we patiently repeated the answers to questions we had answered a few moments ago. Grandma Agnes is still there. She's still her stubborn self. But she doesn't grasp the world around her, and yet she insists on living independently and asking about Snoopy constantly.
注意:1.续写词数应为 150 个左右;
A few months ago, Uncle Edward came up with a good idea and bought a robotic dog for Grandma Agnes.
Everyone in our family was pleased that Grandma Agnes had been so kind to the robot dog.
