At school, we spend a lot of time studying grammar and learning new words. We work hard to improve our reading and listening skills. However, few of us pay enough attention to body language. So, is body language important?
The answer is “Yes!” As the old saying goes, “Actions speak louder than words.” Sometimes, we can communicate things even without a single word. For example, by shrugging (耸肩) our shoulders, without a word, we’ve just said, “I don’t know.”
Body language can help us stress (强调) what we are saying. It can help us express our true, inner feelings. What’s more, body language can help us find out if someone is lying. Often, people who are lying do not make eye contact. They may turn away or raise their shoulders because they are uncomfortable with the conversation.
In job interviews, the interviewers can sometimes judge the interviewee before he or she speaks. Body language is important in our personal lives, too. It can show if you really care about your friends. Leaning forward into the conversation, for example, means you are interested in what is being said. Listening without making eye contact means you are not paying attention but are waiting for your turn to speak.
Scientists have been studying body language for a long time. They say more than 70 percent of our messages are sent through body language. Sometimes, body language is more accurate (精确的) than the words we use.
So it is very important for us to learn body language. By understanding body language, we are less likely to be misunderstood. We will find it easier to get a job. We will also have lasting friendships.
24. According to the passage, what does the picture show?
A. He is angry. B. He doesn’t know. C. He has a question.
25. Which sentence uses “lying” with the same meaning as the underlined word?
A. Don’t believe her, she is lying.
B. A newspaper is lying on the desk.
C. There is a boy lying on the ground.
26. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To help readers improve their language skills.
B. To teach readers how to use body language properly.
C. To tell readers the importance of learning body language.
27. What can we infer (推测) about understanding body language from the passage?
A. It can help us get along better with friends.
B. It will make us learn grammar faster at school.
C. It lets us know exactly what others are thinking.
【答案】24. B 25. A 26. C 27. A
【解析】
【导语】本文主要介绍了肢体语言在日常交流、表达真实情感、求职面试及人际交往中的重要作用,强调了学习和理解肢体语言的必要性。
【24题详解】
第二段指出“For example, shrugging our shoulders, without a word, we’ve just said, ‘I don’t know.’”,图片中男孩耸肩摊手的动作正是文字所描述的耸肩的表达,这直接说明他不知道。
【25题详解】
根据第三段“Often, people who are lying do not make eye contact. They may turn away or raise their shoulders because they are uncomfortable with the conversation.”可知,不进行眼神接触、转身等动作是由于对谈话感到不自在,由此可推断出此处lying指“说谎”。
【26题详解】
文章在第一段末句提出疑问“So is body language important?”,并在最后一段首句给出明确总结“So it is very important for us to learn body language.”,整篇文章围绕肢体语言在生活各个方面的重要性展开阐述。因此,文章的主要目的是告知读者学习肢体语言的重要性。
【27题详解】
第六段指出“We will also have lasting friendships.”,再结合第四段“It can show if you really care about your friends.”可知,理解肢体语言有助于向朋友传递关心并维系长久深厚的友谊,由此可推断出它能帮助我们与朋友更好地相处。

A Balanced Life: Screen Time and Real Time
In today’s world, smartphones and the Internet are more common than ever before. For us students, this brings both great opportunities and some challenges. It is important to find a good balance between our online and offline lives.
The Internet helps us with our studies a lot. We can find information much more quickly than by reading books in a library. Online, there are more learning resources, such as educational videos and apps. They make learning more interesting and fun. We can also connect with friends more easily through social media. During the last vacation, I video-called my cousin in another city almost every day. It made us feel closer.
However, spending too much time online also has bad effects. Some students play online games for much longer than they plan to. As a result, they have less time for outdoor activities. Their grades may become worse because they don’t review their lessons as often as they should. Also, looking at screens for too long is bad for our eyes.
So, what can we do? I think we need to manage our time better. A good way is to make a schedule. For example, we can decide to finish homework first, and then allow half an hour for watching videos or playing games. Outdoor activities are also important. We can go cycling with our families after finishing homework. This is a much healthier habit. Our parents can help by talking with us more and planning fun activities together. These real-life interactions are more meaningful for our growth.
In my opinion, technology itself is not good or bad. The key is how we use it. Let’s be smarter and build healthier habits for a better life.
33. The Internet makes study ______________. People can find information much more quickly.
34. Going online can help students ______________ more learning resources.

35. Paragraph 3 mainly tells the ______________ of spending too much time online.
36. Parents can talk with their children more and ______________ together to help them manage time better.
37. How do you keep a balance between real life and smartphones?
