Dear David,
How are you these days? Today I’m going to tell you something between me and my good friend. Last year, my good friend Carlos invited me to his birthday party. At his party I saw my first pinata (彩罐). It looked like an animal and was full of candies. People put it on the ceiling (天花板). Carlos hit (打) the pinata until it broke. All the candies fell on the floor, and we had a great time eating candies. Everyone shared. It was fun!
Carlos’s birthday party also got me thinking about how kids in other places celebrate birthdays.
Did you know that in Vietnam kids do not celebrate birthdays? Instead, on New Year’s Day, all the kids celebrate their birthdays. Parents give kids red envelopes with lucky money in them.
In South Africa, kids do not celebrate every birthday. However, on their 21st birthday, their parents make a key. It can be made of paper or wood. Parents give their child this key. It is a sign from the parents that the child can now “unlock the door to their future life”.
In Japan, children get a new set of clothes on their birthdays. While in Italy, adults pull children’s ears—one pull for each year.
My friend Carlos also helps me to know more in many other ways. Do you have such an experience with your friends?

1. A 2. C 3. B 4. A 5. D 6. C 7. B 8. B 9. D 10. A
根据上文“When I was in primary school, I never did housework. I often threw my things everywhere.” 故选A。
look for寻找;clean up清理;turn around转身;put on穿上。
故选A。
根据下文“How great my parents were!”
根据上文“my mother went back home after work”可知,妈妈下班后回家,因此这里是指父母的日常是工作,“after one day’s work”符合父母的身份场景,其他选项与父母的日常活动不符。
根据下文“They are necessary for success in life.” 故选A。
II. 阅读理解 阅读A、B、C三个文本, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中, 选出最佳选项 (A B篇每小题1. 5分, C篇每小题2分, 共25分)

“We must send for that kind young fairy (仙女) again,” said the mother. “She will help us.” The kind fairy came, and she told them, “Aurora will sleep for a hundred years. But it will be so sad for her to wake up after all that time, and find that you have died. So shall I make you all sleep too?” “Oh, yes,” said the parents. “We want to be here when she wakes.” The kind fairy touched the parents. “Sleep now for as long as Aurora sleeps,” she said. She touched all the other people and animals too. Everything living in the palace (宫殿) slept, even the fires. The kind fairy told Aurora, “A prince (王子) will wake you from your sleep when the time is right.” As the kind fairy left the palace, she touched a tree outside.

根据对话中MO的回答“The two most important things to know are how to dress comfortably and how to pack your equipment well.”可知,两件重要的事情是“如何穿得舒适”和“如何打包好装备”,故第一空填how to dress comfortably,第二空填how to pack your equipment well。根据对话中MO的回答“Access and balance are the keys to packing well.”可知,打包好的关键是“方便拿取”和“平衡”,原文主语是“Access and balance”,题干改为“…are access and balance”,主语应是“The keys to packing well”,填入第三空。根据对话中MO的回答“Don’t put things you need—such as extra clothes, food, or water—at the bottom of your backpack.” 根据对话中MO的回答“It’s best to keep the heaviest things close to your back.”

Hi, everyone. I am very happy to share one of my best family memories with you.
It happened last New Year’s Eve. My parents, my grandparents and I were all at home. We decided to make dumplings together. My grandmother taught me how to make them patiently. Although the dumplings I made looked a bit funny, everyone laughed happily and encouraged me. After that, we sat around the table, enjoying the delicious food and sharing interesting stories of the year.
