A
For many people, forgetting things is quite common. We may forget a name, a phone number or something we just read. But don’t feel too bad. Forgetting is not always bad for us.
First, forgetting useless information makes our brain lighter. If our brain kept every small thing we met every day, it would be too crowded. We can then pay more attention to important knowledge.
Second, forgetting pushes us to review. When you find you have forgotten something important, you will go back to learn it again. Through repeated review, you can understand it much deeper and build stronger memories.
But too much forgetting brings trouble. So what can we do? Do not wait until you nearly forget everything. Take active steps. Review in time, use imagination, and organize your knowledge well.
Forgetting is a natural part of our memory system. What matters is how we deal with it.

For generations, the people of Badeng Village in Metog, Xizang, lived a quiet but difficult life deep in the Himalayas. Xin Xiangdong, a 51-year-old bamboo craftsman from the Monba ethnic group, remembers when “living off the mountains” meant back-breaking work. To trade (交易) his handmade bamboo baskets for flour and oil, as a teenager, Xin had to walk for eight days along dangerous mountain trails (小路) and cross rivers via zip lines. The village was like an isolated island, cut off from the rest of the world by towering peaks and rushing rivers.
The dream of the villagers finally came true when the Metog Highway opened. By 2013, roads began connecting these faraway areas, and in 2021, the whole village moved to a more convenient location with modern houses. Instead of carrying heavy loads on their backs, villagers now see trucks and tourists arriving at their doorsteps. The narrow trails have been replaced by smooth pavement, making it easy for the Monba people to share their unique culture and bamboo crafts with visitors from all over the country.
Today, Badeng Village is thriving. In 2025, the village earned over 8 million yuan, with a large part coming from tourism and bamboo sales. Many families have opened small restaurants and cozy homestays for travelers. For Xin Xiangdong, “living off the mountains” no longer means just surviving through hard labor. It now means enjoying a comfortable life while protecting the beautiful green mountains and clear waters that local people have called home for centuries.

28.What can we infer about the village after the Metog Highway opened?
A.The villagers no longer make bamboo crafts.
B.The village has become more connected to the outside world.
C.The villagers have moved out of the mountains completely.
D.The number of tourists in the village has dropped.
29.The author organizes the passage mainly by ________.
A.listing different opinions about life in Badeng Village
B.introducing the history of bamboo crafts in Xizang

D.describing the development of tourism in Metog County

choose possible fail actual remember feel sort notice information discover brain practise
Believe it or not, forgetting some things helps your brain remember others! The brain is a complicated part of the body.
However, one thing that scientists have 36 is that your brain needs to forget some information. If it remembered everything, then pulling out a certain piece of 37 from lots of stored-up memories would be 38 . Let’s picture your brain as a bucket (桶) that is filled with papers: How could you find one little note in all of that clutter (杂乱的东西)?
According to the scientists, some forgetting is 39 a very natural and normal process, rather than a 40 of memory. Our 41 may want us to remember the important part of what we’ve experienced because that will be the most helpful for us in the real world.
For example, let’s say you remember a friend’s phone number, but that friend moves away and gets a new phone number. 42 the old number becomes meaningless and may make it harder to remember your friend’s new number.
So your brain 43 important information to store and it cleans out the rest. Now your memory bucket is much easier 44 through quickly.
But this isn’t a perfect system. Sometimes your brain drops a thought that you wish it had kept. You can help it figure out which information you want by 45 those memories and facts or by using other memory techniques.

A.The villagers no longer make bamboo crafts.
B.The village has become more connected to the outside world.
C.The villagers have moved out of the mountains completely.
D.The number of tourists in the village has dropped.
29.The author organizes the passage mainly by ________.

For example, let’s say you remember a friend’s phone number, but that friend moves away and gets a new phone number. 42 the old number becomes meaningless and may make it harder to remember your friend’s new number.
So your brain 43 important information to store and it cleans out the rest. Now your memory bucket is much easier 44 through quickly.
