Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is a large-scale digital art exhibition that brings the Post-Impressionist master’s works to life through projections, sound and interactive technology. It returns to Singapore with a notable new feature. What is the key new feature? “It’s about participation, not just observation,” notes a curator. A dedicated AI Studio has been added. Visitors can type a text prompt, such as “sunflowers under a starry sky”, and an artificial intelligence algorithm will instantly generate a unique digital image in Van Gogh’s distinctive style of brushstrokes and colors. This image can then be projected alongside the artist’s classic works. What are the main sections of the experience? Digital Galleries: Walk through rooms surrounded by animated projections of paintings like The Starry Night and Sunflowers. AI Studio: Create and display your own AI-generated Van Gogh-style artwork. VR Journey: Use virtual reality headsets to explore the landscapes of Arles, France, that inspired Van Gogh. TIME SPENT ACROSS THE 3 MAIN SECTIONS *Tip: The amount of time visitors spend in a section directly reflects how appealing it is. What are the dates and prices? Dates & Venue: 15 November, 2025 — 15 May, 2026, Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. Ticket Price: Adult: $32(Weekdays)/$38(Weekends) Child (5 — 12): $18(All days) / Children under 5 enter free. As a young girl, she loved looking at the night sky, but her life took a difficult turn when she caught a serious illness at the age of 20. The illness left her nearly deaf, making it hard for her to communicate with others. However, this did not stop her from following her passion for astronomy. In 1893, Leavitt joined the Harvard College Observatory as a “computer” — a person who calculated (计算) astronomical data by hand. At that time, women were not allowed to use the observatory’s telescopes or publish research under their own names. They were paid only 25 cents an hour, much less than men doing the same work. Despite these unfair conditions, Leavitt worked tirelessly. She studied variable stars, which change in brightness over time. One day, Leavitt noticed a pattern: the brighter a certain type of variable star (called a Cepheid variable) was, the longer its cycle of brightness change. This was a groundbreaking discovery. Before her work, astronomers had no way to measure distances to faraway galaxies (星系). But with Leavitt’s law, they could use Cepheid variables as “standard candles” to calculate these distances. This discovery helped later astronomers like Edwin Hubble prove that the universe is expanding. Sadly, Leavitt did not live to see the full impact of her work. She died in 1921 at the age of 53. It was not until many years later that her contributions were fully recognized. Today, she is remembered as one of the most important astronomers of the 20th century. Her story teaches us that even in the face of great challenges, passion and hard work can change the world. 4. What does paragraph 1 mainly focus on? A. Ways for the deaf to communicate. B. A serious illness in Massachusetts. C. Leavitt’s early life and physical hardship. D. How Leavitt became interested in astronomy. 5. How could astronomers measure distances to faraway galaxies? A. By using Cepheid variables as standard candles. B. By observing the movement speed of common stars. C. By studying the shape and size of galaxies. D. By using powerful telescopes to watch galaxies directly. 6. What can we know from the passage? A. Leavitt’s discovery helped prove the universe is getting smaller. B. Leavitt could use the observatory’s telescopes freely in 1893. C. Women doing astronomical work were paid as much as men. D. Leavitt never saw her work fully recognized during her lifetime. 7. In which column of a newspaper can you read the passage? A. Travel & Nature. B. People & Science. C. Health & Medicine. D. Art & Culture. C 5. A 6. D 7. 根据第一段“Henrietta Swan Leavitt was born in 1868 in Massachusetts, USA. As a young girl, she loved looking at the night sky, but her life took a difficult turn when she caught a serious illness at the age of 20. The illness left her nearly deaf, making it hard for her to communicate with others. (亨丽埃塔·斯旺·莱维特于1868年出生在美国马萨诸塞州。作为一个年轻的女孩,她喜欢看夜空,但当她在20岁时患上重病时,她的生活发生了艰难的转折。这种病使她几乎失聪,与人交流变得十分困难)”可知,该段主要围绕她的早年生活和身体上的困境展开。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“But with Leavitt’s law, they could use Cepheid variables as “standard candles” to calculate these distances. (但有了莱维特定律,天文学家们就可以把造父变星当作“标准烛光”来计算这些遥远星系的距离)”可知,天文学家是通过将造父变星作为“标准烛光”来测量遥远星系的距离的。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“Sadly, Leavitt did not live to see the full impact of her work. She died in 1921 at the age of 53. It was not until many years later that her contributions were fully recognized. (遗憾的是,莱维特没能活着看到自己研究成果的全部影响。她于1921年去世,享年53岁。直到很多年后,她的贡献才得到充分认可)”可知,莱维特在有生之年从未看到自己的工作被完全认可。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段“Henrietta Swan Leavitt was born in 1868 in Massachusetts, USA. (亨丽埃塔·斯旺·莱维特于1868年出生在美国马萨诸塞州)”以及文章内容可知,本文主要讲述了女天文学家Henrietta Swan Leavitt的生平事迹以及她在天文学领域的伟大科学发现。因此,这篇文章最有可能出现在报纸的“人物与科学”专栏。 C Albert Einstein owed his brilliant mind to having a child-like sense of humour. Indeed, a number of studies have found a relationship between humour and intelligence. Researchers in Austria recently discovered that funny people, particularly those who enjoy dark humour, have higher IQs than their less funny fellows. They think that it takes both cognitive (认知的) and emotional ability to process and produce humour. In psychology we use the term “positive humour style” to refer to people who use humour to enhance relationships. This type of humour is connected with relationship satisfaction, extroversion (外向性) and high self-respect. Having a humorous way of thinking about life is also a good strategy. It helps people better manage stress and challenges. Not only do funny people make other people laugh, they also laugh more themselves. And laughter leads to brain changes, which may explain the link between humour and intelligence. Neuropsychological studies have found that experiencing positive emotional states, such as joy, fun and happiness, increases the production of dopamine (多巴胺) in the brain. Dopamine not only makes us feel great, but also opens up the learning centres of the brain, which enables more neural (神经) connections. As a result, we become more flexible and creative in our thinking. Evidence suggests that humour actually increases feelings of confidence, competence and status, making funny people very influential. Humour gets people to listen, helps communicate messages and benefits learning. It is a powerful tool that many successful leaders use to enhance group work and organizational culture. Research on the use of humour in education also supports the concept that humour is an effective aid to learning. Several studies have showed that lessons that are delivered with humour are more enjoyable for students, and also bolster students’ understanding and recall of the topic. 8. What do researchers in Austria think it takes to process and produce humour? A. Good memory and rich life experience. B. Cognitive and emotional ability. C. High self-respect and outgoing personality. D. Enough knowledge and social skills. 9. What is the author’s attitude to having a humorous view on life? A. Uncaring. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Worried. 10. What can be inferred about dopamine? A. It helps improve people’s thinking ability and creativity. B. It helps people be humorous. C. It stops the brain from building neural connections. D. It can’t be produced by brains with diseases. 11. What does the underlined word “bolster” in the last paragraph mean? A. Damage. B. Blame. C. Improve. D. Advertise. B 9. C 10. A 11. 根据第一段“They think that it takes both cognitive (认知的) and emotional ability to process and produce humour.(他们认为,加工和产生幽默需要认知能力和情感能力兼具)”可知,奥地利的研究人员认为处理和产生幽默需要认知和情感能力。 根据第二段“Having a humorous way of thinking about life is also a good strategy. It helps people better manage stress and challenges.(用幽默的方式看待生活也是一个好策略。它能帮助人们更好地应对压力和挑战)”以及后文对幽默诸多益处的阐述可知,作者认为拥有幽默的人生观是有益的,对其持支持态度。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“Dopamine not only makes us feel great, but also opens up the learning centres of the brain, which enables more neural (神经) connections. As a result, we become more flexible and creative in our thinking.(多巴胺不仅让我们感觉良好,还能打开大脑的学习中枢,从而产生更多的神经连接。结果,我们的思维会变得更加灵活、更有创造力)”可知,多巴胺有助于提高人们的思维能力和创造力。 【11题详解】 词句猜测题。根据最后一段“Several studies have showed that lessons that are delivered with humour are more enjoyable for students, and also bolster students’ understanding and recall of the topic.(几项研究表明,带有幽默感的课程对学生来说更愉快,也能bolster学生对主题的理解和记忆)”可知,幽默的课程既有趣,又对学生理解和记忆有积极作用,故bolster意为“巩固,增强,提高”,与Improve意思最相近。 D Each species of whale has a distinct communication system that often varies within populations. Since humans have been researching and observing these forms of communication, a question has arisen: Could humans one day engage in acoustic (声音的) interactions with whales? To find out the answer, researchers from the Whale-SETI team have been exploring whale-to-human communication with humpback whales (座头鲸). When scientists recorded a humpback whale contact call, known as a “whup”, and played it underwater around their research boat, it was eye-opening for them to find a whale named Twain became a more than willing participant in the call-and-response exchange. Scientists produced a whup call. Twain would then respond with her own whup call to them. This was described as “conversation” in a PeerJ paper. “It might loosely translate to ‘hello’ or some sort of greeting call when other creatures come together or just to signal that they are in a certain location,” says Josephine Hubbard, an animal behaviorist with Whale SETI. In this case, it was as if Twain was either saying “hello” to scientists or “I’m over here.” But in both instances, she was responding to and engaging with whale signals that humans produced. She circled around the scientists’ boat and produced more signals before leaving. “What’s cool about her is that she could have left at any point, as it wasn’t an environment where she couldn’t leave, so she was choosing to be close to us,” said Hubbard. Humpback whales also produced “bubble (气泡) rings” close to boats suggesting that they were being playful and doing it in a relaxed manner. All the findings showed humpback whales enjoyed friendly encounters with humans. Of course, whether whales want to communicate with humans varies by the nature of the whale and by the situation. Just like some humans are more outgoing than others, this could also be true for whales, although this would need more research to understand. 12. What is the function of the first paragraph? A. To explain a new concept. B. To lead into the topic. C. To prove the researchers’ opinions. D. To show the popularity of humpback whales. 13. What may Hubbard agree with? A. Whales’ calls mean that danger is coming. B. Twain was forced to stay and respond to humans. C. The “whup” call is a greeting or location signal. D. It is impossible to understand whales’ real feelings. 14. Why did humpback whales produce “bubble rings” to boats? A. To show playfulness and relaxation. B. To show their sense of hunger. C. To warn humans to leave the sea area. D. To hunt fish near the research boats. 15. What is the passage mainly about? A. Ways to protect humpback whales in nature. B. Different kinds of calls made by large whales. C. The living habits of humpback whales in the ocean. D. Research on human-humpback whale communication. B 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第一段“Each species of whale has a distinct communication system that often varies within populations. Since humans have been researching and observing these forms of communication, a question has arisen: Could humans one day engage in acoustic (声音的) interactions with whales? To find out the answer, researchers from the Whale-SETI team have been exploring whale-to-human communication with humpback whales 根据文章第三段中Hubbard的原话“It might loosely translate to ‘hello’ or some sort of greeting call when other creatures come together or just to signal that they are in a certain location(这种叫声大致可以理解成‘你好’,或是某种碰面时的问候声,也可能只是用来示意自己所在的位置)”可知,她认为这种“whup”叫声大致可以翻译为“你好”或某种问候,或者是用来表明它们所在位置的信号。 根据文章第四段首句“Humpback whales also produced “bubble (气泡) rings” close to boats suggesting that they were being playful and doing it in a relaxed manner.(座头鲸还会在船只附近制造“气泡环”,这表明它们心情放松,在嬉戏玩耍。)” 通读全文,尤其是第一段“Since humans have been researching and observing these forms of communication, a question has arisen: Could humans one day engage in acoustic (声音的) interactions with whales? To find out the answer, researchers from the Whale-SETI team have been exploring whale-to-human communication with humpback whales Campus life is filled with busy classes, endless assignments and tight schedules, which often make us focus only on our own goals. ____16____ However, small, unexpected acts of kindness can light up our days and build a warm community. A simple smile or a greeting can make a big difference. When you pass a classmate in the hallway, a warm “Good morning” or a friendly smile doesn’t take much effort, but it can cheer someone up who is feeling down. ____17____ It helps break the ice between strangers and makes our campus feel like a home. ____18____ For example, if you see a classmate struggling with heavy books, offer to carry some. If someone misses a class, share your notes with them willingly. Such small favors can strengthen our friendship. These small actions show that you care and can help others get through difficult moments. Being patient and understanding also matters a lot. Everyone has bad days, and sometimes we may be slow to respond or make mistakes. ____19____ Instead of complaining or criticising, give them a little patience and support. This kindness not only helps others but also makes you a more empathetic person. Kindness is not about doing big things. Small kindnesses don’t require much time or money. But they have the power to connect people, reduce stress and make our campus a better place. ____20____ A. Everyone should be brave in their lives. B. We should learn to put ourselves in others’ shoes. C. Lending a helping hand is another way to spread kindness. D. A kind word can go a long way in brightening someone’s mood. E. Helping others is a good way to improve our own confidence. F. Let’s keep spreading kindness and make every day on campus meaningful and warm. G. It’s easy to forget to care about others around us. G 17. D 18. C 19. B 20. 【16题详解】 前文“Campus life is filled with busy classes, endless assignments and tight schedules, which often make us focus only on our own goals.(校园生活充满繁忙的课程、无穷无尽的作业和紧凑的时间安排,常常让我们只专注于自己的目标。)”提到校园生活被繁忙的课程、作业填满,大家往往只专注于自己的目标,G选项“It’s easy to forget to care about others around us.(很容易忘记去关心身边的人。)” 【17题详解】 “A simple smile or a greeting can make a big difference.(一个简单的微笑或一句问候,就能带来巨大的改变。)”是本段主旨句,因此本段核心讲微笑、问候这类简单的善意举动,D选项“A kind word can go a long way in brightening someone’s mood.(一句善意的话语,能让人心情大好。 )”对应前文“一句友好的问候就能让情绪低落的人振作起来”,精准呼应段落主旨。 【18题详解】 后文“For example, if you see a classmate struggling with heavy books, offer to carry some. If someone misses a class, share your notes with them willingly.(例如,如果你看到同学正艰难地扛着沉重的书,不妨主动帮忙提一提;如果有人缺课了,也愿意分享你的笔记。)”举了帮同学搬书、分享笔记的具体助人例子,C选项“Lending a helping hand is another way to spread kindness.(伸出援手,也是传递善意的一种方式。)” 【19题详解】 根据前文“Being patient and understanding also matters a lot.(有耐心、善体谅也十分重要。)”可知,本段强调要耐心体谅他人,B选项“We should learn to put ourselves in others’ shoes.(我们应当学会设身处地为他人着想。)” 【20题详解】 前文“Small kindnesses don’t require much time or money. But they have the power to connect people, reduce stress and make our campus a better place.(小小的善意不需要太多时间和金钱,却能拉近人与人之间的距离,减轻压力,让我们的校园变得更加美好。)”总结小善意的价值,F选项“Let’s keep spreading kindness and make every day on campus meaningful and warm.(让我们继续传递善意,让校园里的每一天都充满意义与温暖。)” After joining the league, we didn’t win a single football match. His face looked very focused as he pulled the kite behind him. He ran as fast as he could. He looked back, hoping to see the kite fly up. But it only bounced and tumbled on the ground, which sent small pieces of grass flying. Soon he was out of breath. He stopped and let out a deep sigh. He turned to his sister Lucy, who sat nearby. “Will you give my kite a lift?” he asked. Lucy came over and took the kite from him. “OK, run when I throw it!” she said. John nodded firmly and got ready to run. Lucy threw the kite high into the air. But John watched her throw and did not run. He stood still for a moment. The kite fell down onto the grass again. “Ah! How clumsy you are!” Lucy complained, stamping her foot. “It was all your fault.” John answered back. Just then, their aunt, who was watching from a bench, called out gently, “Try again, children.” Their second try was made with more care. They worked together, and Lucy let the kite go at exactly the right moment. But just as it caught the wind, a sudden side wind swept across the field. The kite was blown into a low bush. Its long tail got caught in the branches in an instant. It hung there, upside down like a trapped bird. “There, there! That is because you threw it to one side.”cried John, pointing angrily. “As if I could make the wind blow straight.” Lucy answered, almost in tears. Their aunt came to help. She carefully freed the tail from the twigs. She rolled up the string and looked at the disappointed children. “There are too many trees here. Let us find a more open space, and then try again,” she said kindly. They soon found a nice grass plot with no trees. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Oh John, you should not give up, but try again,” their aunt encouraged. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文 They soon found a nice grass plot with no trees. John held the kite tightly and prepared carefully. Lucy waited patiently for the right time to throw it. John began to run fast across the flat grass. Lucy tossed the kite upward softly. It rose a little and floated in the wind briefly. However, the wind soon weakened. The kite wobbled and fell heavily to the ground. Feeling upset, John dropped the string and sighed in low spirits. He thought he would never get the kite to fly and wanted to give up right away. “Oh John, you should not give up, but try again,” their aunt encouraged. Moved by her warm words, John cheered up a little. With Lucy’s help, they cooperated better. John ran steadily while Lucy released the kite at a perfect time. The kite caught the wind smoothly and rose step by step. Watching the kite flying high in the sky, John laughed happily. He learned that patience and persistence help us get through difficulties and finally achieve our goals. 词汇激活 行为类 ①投掷:toss/throw ②鼓励:cheer up/brighten up ③配合:cooperate/work together 情绪类 ①沮丧:upset/disappointed/frustrated ②低落:low spirits/sadness 【点睛】[高分句型1] Feeling upset, John dropped the string and sighed in low spirits.(运用了现在分词短语作状语) [高分句型2] He learned that patience and persistence help us get through difficulties and finally achieve our goals.(运用了that引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 勉县二中2025~2026学年度第二学期期中考试 高二英语 注意事项: 1. 1. B Henrietta Swan Leavitt was born in 1868 in Massachusetts, USA. C Albert Einstein owed his brilliant mind to having a child-like sense of humour. A. Damage. B. Blame. C. Improve. D. Advertise. D Each species of whale has a distinct communication system that often varies within populations. Campus life is filled with busy classes, endless assignments and tight schedules, which often make us focus only on our own goals. ____16____ However, small, unexpected acts of kindness can light up our days and build a warm community. He held his homemade kite by the string. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
