For five long years, master weaver Wang Pengwei worked day and night in her quiet Dingzhou workshop, pursuing a bold dream: to weave a full copy of the famous ancient painting, Along the River During the Qingming Festival in kesi, a Chinese silk weaving art with a history of more than 2,000 years.
The project was far more difficult than she had imagined. To show the painting’s tiny details in silk, it had to be made much bigger. Wang and her team of ten weavers needed to work perfectly together. They spent three months practicing, just to make sure every hand moved in harmony. What truly tested their resolve, however, was the extreme slowness of the work. Each day’s work sometimes added only a few millimeters to the length.
“There were moments we almost gave up,” Wang recalled. The work required not just skill, but great patience. After 126,000 hours of effort, the 8.2-meter-long piece was finally finished. The moment it was cut from the loom (织布机), the workshop was filled with cheers and relieved smiles. Wang felt a deep joy. “This shows our craft is not just history; it is still alive,” she said.
The project did more than complete a weaving. It changed a life — the life of her son, Wang Bo. He once saw kesi as old-fashioned and built his own business far from home. However, upon returning during the pandemic, he watched his mother devote herself to the loom. Touched by her passion and realizing the craft might disappear, he made a big decision: to leave his job and learn the family art.
“Choosing kesi is like walking a long, narrow road,” Wang Bo said. Although it takes much time and brings little money, he finds true meaning in it. Now, he is creating new kesi products for everyday use. He also helps teach young students, hoping they too will appreciate this ancient beauty.
Through their shared dedication, the art of kesi is being warmly passed on. It honors the past, while weaving its way into the future.
4. What was the main challenge in the project?
A. The extremely slow daily progress. B. The much larger scale of the copy.
C. The perfect coordination of the team. D. The lengthy initial training period.
5. What was key to completing the kesi work?
A. The pursuit of personal artistic fame. B. Perfect teamwork and great patience.
C. A strict division of labor among weavers. D. Mastery of specialized weaving skills.
6. Why did Wang Bo decide to learn the kesi craft?
A. To learn a traditional skill. B. To change his career path.
C. To preserve the dying craft. D. To fulfil his mother’s wish.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A Miracle Woven in Silk. B. The Future of an Ancient Art.
C. A Challenging Silk Project. D. Two Generations, a Shared Dream.
A 5. B 6. C 7. D
根据第二段中的“What truly tested their resolve, however, was the extreme slowness of the work. Each day’s work sometimes added only a few millimeters to the length.(然而,真正考验他们决心的是这项工作极其缓慢。每天的工作有时只能让作品长度增加几毫米。)”可知,该项目最主要的挑战是每日进展极其缓慢。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“Wang and her team of ten weavers needed to work perfectly together. They spent three months practicing, just to make sure every hand moved in harmony.(王鹏巍和她的十名织工团队需要完美协作。他们花了三个月练习,只为确保每个人手上动作协调一致。)”以及第三段中的“The work required not just skill, but great patience.(这项工作不仅需要技艺,还需要极大的耐心。)”
根据第四段中的“However, upon returning during the pandemic, he watched his mother devote herself to the loom. Touched by her passion and realizing the craft might disappear, he made a big decision: to leave his job and learn the family art.(然而,疫情期间回到家后,他看到母亲全身心投入织布机前。被母亲的热忱打动,又意识到这项技艺可能会消亡,他做出了一个重大决定:辞去工作,学习这门家传手艺。)”可知,王博学习缂丝是为了保护这项濒临消亡的传统技艺。
【7题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是尾段中的“Through their shared dedication, the art of kesi is being warmly passed on. It honors the past, while weaving its way into the future.(凭借两代人共同的付出,缂丝技艺得到温暖传承。它致敬过去,也编织走向未来的道路。)”可知,文章讲述母亲投身缂丝复刻巨作,儿子放弃原有事业投身传承,两代人怀揣共同理想守护缂丝,“两代人,同一个梦想”最适合作为文章标题。

Many respected climate scientists and institutions say removing carbon emissions — not just reducing them — is essential to tackling climate change. And trees remove carbon simply by “breathing.” But analyzing the numbers, researchers found that the trees’ collective ability to remove carbon through photosynthesis (光合作用) can’t stand up to the potential emissions from the world’s largest oil-and-gas companies — there’s inadequate land on Earth to accomplish that.
And even if there were, if those 200 companies had to pay for planting all those trees, it would cost $10.8 trillion, more than their entire combined market valuation of $7.01 trillion. The researchers also determined that the companies would be in the red if they were responsible for the social costs of the carbon in their reserves, which scientists compute at around $185 per metric ton of carbon dioxide. “The general public may understand offsetting (抵消) to be a sort of magic eraser, and that’s just not where we are,” said Nina, a research fellow in the study.
Carbon offsetting refers to investing in tree planting or other environmental projects to offset carbon emissions. Trees are one of the cheapest ways to do this because they naturally absorb carbon dioxide, a planet-warming gas. Oil-and-gas companies have promoted tree-planting as a key part of carbon offset programs in recent years. To do their calculations, the researchers looked at the 200 largest oil-and-gas companies and calculated how much carbon dioxide would be released if their fuel were burned. The researchers focused only on tree planting because the expense and the investment needed for other forms of carbon capture are still mostly cost-prohibitive.
Although Nina warned that focusing only on carbon capture is too simple, pointing out that if done properly, planting trees can also improve food security, support biodiversity, and protect communities from natural disasters, the research effectively makes the point that it’s financially impossible to offset enough carbon by planting trees. And asking companies to pay for all the emissions their fuel will later create is a chimera.
8. What makes it hard to remove all carbon by planting trees?
A. Trees have a long life cycle. B. Photosynthesis works slowly.
C. There isn’t enough available land. D. Tree planting takes too much labor.
9. Why does the author list numbers in paragraph 2?
A. To prove the loss of the companies.
B. To highlight the impact of carbon emissions.
C. To provide evidence to support tree-planting.
D. To show forest-based carbon offsetting is impractical.
10. What does the underlined word “chimera” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Practical idea. B. False hope. C. Brilliant plan. D. Selfish desire.
11. What is the author’s attitude towards carbon offsetting by planting trees?
A. Favorable B. Intolerant C. Doubtful D. Unclear
C 9. D 10. B 11. C
根据第一段中的“But analyzing the numbers, researchers found that the trees’ collective ability to remove carbon through photosynthesis (光合作用) can’t stand up to the potential emissions from the world’s largest oil-and-gas companies — there’s inadequate land on Earth to accomplish that. (但研究人员在分析数据后发现,树木通过光合作用的整体固碳能力无法抵消全球最大的油气企业潜在的碳排放量——地球上没有足够的土地来实现这一目标。)”可知,难以依靠植树消除全部碳排放的原因是没有足够可用土地。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中的“And even if there were, if those 200 companies had to pay for planting all those trees, it would cost $10.8 trillion, more than their entire combined market valuation of $7.01 trillion.(即便有足够土地,如果这200家企业必须出钱栽种所有这些树木,成本将达到10.8万亿美元,超过它们合计7.01万亿美元的总市值。)”
根据最后一段中的“Although Nina warned that focusing only on carbon capture is too simple, pointing out that if done properly, planting trees can also improve food security, support biodiversity, and protect communities from natural disasters, the research effectively makes the point that it’s financially impossible to offset enough carbon by planting trees.
通读全文,尤其是第四段中的“Although Nina warned that focusing only on carbon capture is too simple, pointing out that if done properly, planting trees can also improve food security, support biodiversity, and protect communities from natural disasters, the research effectively makes the point that it’s financially impossible to offset enough carbon by planting trees. (尽管妮娜警示,只关注碳捕获的想法过于简单,她指出如果实施得当,植树同样能够改善粮食安全、维护生物多样性、保护社区免受自然灾害侵害,但该研究有力表明,依靠植树抵消足量碳排放在经济层面并不现实。)”可知,作者认为植树碳抵消存在现实阻碍,对此持怀疑态度。
D
Decision fatigue (决策疲劳) is a psychological phenomenon where the quality of decisions declines after a long session of decision-making. It is caused by the limited mental energy we have for making choices each day. While many of us believe we are logical beings capable of weighing every option carefully, decision fatigue shows how our mental resources can be used up over time.
One of the key studies on this phenomenon was conducted in the context of parole hearings Researchers found that judges were more likely to approve of parole early in the day or after a meal break. As the day progressed and the judges made more decisions, they were increasingly likely to maintain their previous decisions, denying parole simply because it required less mental effort.
Decision fatigue not only affects major life choices but also everyday decisions. For instance, people often report struggling to decide what to eat for dinner after a long day. Similarly, too many choices, such as when looking through streaming platforms or online stores, can leave individuals feeling confused, leading them to abandon the process entirely or settle for a less satisfying option.
To overcome decision fatigue, some well-known figures have adopted strategies to simplify their daily routines. For example, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is famous for wearing the same style of gray T-shirts to minimize unnecessary choices. Similarly, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Albert Einstein was known for owing multiple identical suits to avoid wasting energy on deciding what to wear each day. In a different context, author Haruki Murakami has shared that he maintains a strict daily routine, including specific writing hours and exercise, to free up mental capacity for his creative work.
Understanding decision fatigue can help us structure our lives more effectively. Prioritizing important decisions earlier in the day or setting up routines to minimize unnecessary choices are strategies to preserve mental energy. By managing our mental resources wisely, we can make sound decisions and reduce the stress associated with overwhelming choices
12. What leads to decision fatigue according to the text?
A. The lack of time to make decisions.
B. The difficulty of making logical choices.
C. The stress from making important decisions.
D. The limited mental energy for decision-making.
13. What does the study on parole hearings reveal?
A. Judges are much stricter after long breaks.
B. Decision fatigue can lead to unfair outcomes.
C. Fatigue causes judges to avoid complicated cases.
D. External factors have no impact on decision-making.
14. What does the author suggest readers shopping online do?
A. Make quick decisions. B. Compare different products.
C. Limit the number of choices. D. Choose the most popular products.
15. What is the purpose of adopting routines?
A. To reduce the stress of daily work. B. To increase decision-making quality.
C. To enhance overall life satisfaction. D. To create more decision-making chances
D 13. B 14. C 15. B
根据第一段中“It is caused by the limited mental energy we have for making choices each day. (这是由于我们每天用于做选择的精力有限)”可知,决策疲劳是由有限的决策精力导致的。故选D项。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“Researchers found that judges were more likely to approve of parole early in the day or after a meal break. As the day progressed and the judges made more decisions, they were increasingly likely to maintain their previous decisions, denying parole simply because it required less mental effort. (研究人员发现,法官在一天早些时候或饭后休息后更有可能批准假释。随着一天的进行,法官做出的决定越多,他们就越有可能维持之前的决定,仅仅因为减少精神努力而拒绝假释)”可知,随着法官做出的决定增多,他们因为决策疲劳而倾向于维持之前的决定,这可能导致不公平的假释结果。由此可推知,关于假释听证会的研究揭示了决策疲劳可能导致不公平的结果。故选B项。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“Similarly, too many choices, such as when looking through streaming platforms or online stores, can leave individuals feeling confused, leading them to abandon the process entirely or settle for a less satisfying option. (同样,太多的选择,比如在浏览流媒体平台或网上商店时,会让个人感到困惑,导致他们完全放弃这个过程或选择一个不太满意的选项)”可知,作者提到网上购物时太多的选择会让人困惑。由此可推知,作者建议网上购物的读者限制选择的数量,以避免决策疲劳。故选C项。
【15题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“Prioritizing important decisions earlier in the day or setting up routines to minimize unnecessary choices are strategies to preserve mental energy. (在一天中较早地优先处理重要决策或制定常规以最小化不必要的选择,是保存精神能量的策略)”可知,制定常规的目的是为了保存精神能量,从而提高决策质量。故选B项。

Doubtful D. Unclear
