This 326-meter-deep sinkhole, once only an unknown natural wonder, has now transformed into a site combining wonderful natural surroundings with a unique reading experience and thus attracting visitors from both home and abroad. The inspiration for this bookstore came to founder He Zhijian two years ago during a visit to an overseas bookstore, and his ideas were later further enriched by visiting Hangzhou’s Tsutaya Books. The result is an open-air cliff-side space filled with over 10,000 books, creating a 10-meter-high, 150-meter-long “canyon (峡谷) of knowledge”. One of the bookstore’s unique features is its natural protection from the elements: no matter how strong the wind or heavy the rain, the space never gets wet, as the sinkhole acts as a natural shelter (遮蔽), protecting the books and reading area perfectly. The construction of the bookstore is in perfect harmony with the natural landscape, with environmental protection as a top focus. Original rock formations have been carefully protected. At the sinkhole bottom, except for a raised walkway winding through wild banana plants, the area remains completely untouched, showing great respect for nature and efforts to maintain environmental balance. Mianhua Village, where the bookstore is located, was once cut off by mountains. A significant change took place when this project was started. “We thought it was a great pity that the county’s fascinating natural landscapes were hidden deep in the mountains, unknown to the outside world,” said the project planners. “That was why we decided to develop the scenic spot that combines nature with culture — aiming to attract more visitors and, in turn, improve local residents’ lives through tourism development.” 4. What inspired the founder’s design? A. Trips to bookstores home and abroad. B. The natural view of mountain villages. C. Advice from professional designers. D. Deep research on local ancient culture. 5. How does the sinkhole itself contribute to the bookstore? A. It protects the original rock formations perfectly. B. It provides the rock walls for the bookshelves. C. It blocks noise to create a quiet environment. D. It functions as a natural shelter against the weather. 6. What principle guided the construction? A. Balancing protection and development. B. Making efforts to serve local research work. C. Giving priority to cultural tourism project. D. Remaining environment completely untouched. 7. Why does the author write the text? A. To call on the public to protect the environment of sinkholes. B. To share the founder He Zhijian’s successful experience. C. To recommend a hidden natural wonder to tourists. D. To introduce a unique culture-nature combined tourism project. A 5. D 6. A 7. 根据第二段中的“The inspiration for this bookstore came to founder He Zhijian two years ago during a visit to an overseas bookstore, and his ideas were later further enriched by visiting Hangzhou’s Tsutaya Books.(创始人何志健两年前在参观一家海外书店时萌生了创办这家书店的灵感,之后他探访杭州茑屋书店,进一步丰富了自己的想法。)” 根据第三段中的“One of the bookstore’s unique features is its natural protection from the elements: no matter how strong the wind or heavy the rain, the space never gets wet, as the sinkhole acts as a natural shelter (遮蔽), protecting the books and reading area perfectly.(这家书店的一大特色是天然的防护屏障:无论风多大、雨多猛,店内空间都不会受潮,因为这个天坑本身就是天然遮蔽处,可以完好地保护书籍和阅读区域。)” 根据第四段中的“The construction of the bookstore is in perfect harmony with the natural landscape, with environmental protection as a top focus. Original rock formations have been carefully protected.(这家书店的建造与自然景观完美相融,环保是首要考量。原生岩层得到了悉心保护。)”可知,书店建设遵循兼顾生态保护与项目开发的原则。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是第五段中的“That was why we decided to develop the scenic spot that combines nature with culture — aiming to attract more visitors and, in turn, improve local residents’ lives through tourism development.(这就是我们决定打造这个融自然与文化于一体的景区的原因——旨在吸引更多游客,进而通过旅游业的发展改善当地居民的生活。)” C Shakespeare’s plays were so popular in the 16th and 17th centuries because they were good — and because they were cheap. Productions at the Globe, the cultural landmark of London, saw audiences crowd in, with the cheapest “seats” being no seats at all, but standing places in the “pit (观众观演池)” below the stage. Few complained, even as their knees no doubt protested (抗议), thanks to the quality of what unfolded in front of them. When the Globe reopened in 1997, the £5 “groundling” ticket was big news, giving theatre-goers the ability to stand as Shakespeare’s working-class people once did. The same holds true in 2025: standing tickets are still only £10, or £5 if you book early enough, and the theatre remains as impressive and wonderful as ever. This summer’s Romeo and Juliet, for instance, is full of life. The audience roars with laughter at all the right moments. It is very different from the miscommunication and heavy-handed teaching at General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) that has put generations of students off Shakespeare. For Michelle Terry, the artistic director at Shakespeare’s Globe, making theatre accessible is extremely important to turning around opinions, and the cheap tickets certainly help. The pricing, Terry believes, gives audiences the chance to make up their mind about Shakespeare without pressure. The low entry fee gives audiences “the right to have an opinion”. “You can say, I am not having a good time, and I can afford to leave,” she says. While access for all is the goal, the team are aware of the role that Shakespeare plays in the national curriculum (课程) and make every effort to ensure as many students as possible can see its plays. Each year it tries to programme at least one of the GCSE texts, and in 2023-24 more than 120,000 students visited the Globe to see Shakespeare live, 26,000 of them for free. School visitors aren’t the only ones eager to see Shakespeare. Today the Globe truly lives up to its name, with a third of visitors last year coming from abroad, from 147 different countries. For Terry, bringing people together from all walks of life is central to making theatre accessible — especially in today’s world. 8. Why would the audience accept watching a play while standing? A. The audience could get free tickets by standing. B. It provided the most comfortable view. C. Performances were truly excellent. D. It was a popular way to show support to actors. 9. What has turned many students off Shakespeare according to the text? A. Few funny moments in shows. B. The poor way it is taught in class. C. High price of theatre tickets. D. Old style of Shakespeare’s plays. 10. What does the underlined word “accessible” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Easy to enjoy and attend. B. Simple to understand fully. C. Worth high public praise. D. Free from negative comments. 11. What does the Globe’s current visitor mix mainly reflect? A. Local people’s great love. B. Wide global popularity. C. Cheap ticket advantages. D. School education influence. C 9. B 10. A 11. 根据第一段中的“Productions at the Globe, the cultural landmark of London, saw audiences crowd in, with the cheapest “seats” being no seats at all, but standing places in the “pit (观众观演池)” below the stage. Few complained, even as their knees no doubt protested(抗议), thanks to the quality of what unfolded in front of them.(环球剧院是伦敦的文化地标,剧院上演剧目时观众蜂拥而至。最便宜的“座位”根本没有座椅,只是舞台下方“观众观演池”里的站立区域。尽管观众的膝盖无疑会叫苦,但几乎没人抱怨,只因眼前上演的剧目足够精彩。)”可知,观众愿意站着看戏是因为表演本身十分精彩。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中的“It is very different from the miscommunication and heavy‑handed teaching at General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) that has put generations of students off Shakespeare.(这和普通中等教育证书课程中对作品内容的错误传达与生硬僵化的教学截然不同,正是这种教学让一代又一代学生对莎士比亚产生抵触。)” 根据第三段中的“For Michelle Terry, the artistic director at Shakespeare’s Globe, making theatre accessible is extremely important to turning around opinions, and the cheap tickets certainly help.(对莎士比亚环球剧院艺术总监米歇尔·特里而言,让戏剧accessible对于扭转大众看法至关重要,低价票对此大有帮助。)” 根据第五段中的“Today the Globe truly lives up to its name, with a third of visitors last year coming from abroad, from 147 different countries.(如今环球剧院名副其实,去年三分之一的游客来自海外,涵盖147个不同国家。)” D Kids have always pushed limits and asked for things that could be harmful to them. While kids explore parents’ “edges” of limits, parents are really struggling to do theirs, making the family system unbalanced and affecting mental health Actually, an important basic rule has been forgotten in their lives: boundaries (边界). The cost of not being able to set boundaries with kids has never been higher. Decades ago, it might be a small thing like an extra cupcake or staying out late. Now, it’s about unlimited TikTok use or too many video games instead of real-world activities. Parents are facing a problem — not only a problem of phones and social media, but also a problem of Sturdy Leadership. Sturdy Leadership is a way for parents to be in charge where they set rules and still keep a close relationship with their children. They do this by recognizing their child’s feelings while holding firm (坚定) on what is best for everyone. Imagine a father just told his 12-year-old daughter “no” when she asked to have a party too late and she is understandably annoyed with him about not getting what she wants. In this moment, Sturdy Leadership could look something like this: “I get that you’re upset, and I really do. But one of my main jobs is to make decisions that I think are good for you, even when you’re upset with me. And staying out too late is a dangerous thing for a child of your age.” This shift in approach that is calm, matter-of-fact, and not shaming has resulted in kids calming and adapting much more quickly. It has also significantly reduced their power struggles. Boundary setting — early and often — is important. When the day comes that our kids ask for a phone, our approach will not be different from the common “media policy” we have as parents; our approach will simply be an extended (延伸的) way we’ve always talked to our kids about what they want and ask for. While our kids may not fully understand our decisions at the time, they will, years later, very much benefit from our words and acts of protection. 12. What basic rules have parents often forgotten according to paragraph 1? A. Having a balanced daily lifestyle. B. Drawing clear family boundaries. C. Allowing kids to push limits. D. Paying more attention to mental health. 13. What modern challenge do parents primarily face? A. Few daily outdoor activities. B. Rising school education pressure. C. Kids’ endless online addiction. D. Lack of technological knowledge. 14. Which of the following is key to Sturdy Leadership? A. Combining rules with emotional support. B. Explaining the rules and reasons repeatedly. C. Giving in to avoid long arguments. D. Ensuring enough personal space and freedom. 15. What does the text mainly talk about? A. Ways to control kids’ online time. B. Methods to comfort upset kids. C. Causes of parent-child conflicts. D. Proper family boundary setting. B 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第一段“Actually, an important basic rule has been forgotten in their lives: boundaries (边界). (事实上,他们在生活中遗忘了一条重要的基本准则:边界。)”可知,家长常常忘记的基本准则是设立清晰的家庭边界。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“Now, it’s about unlimited TikTok use or too many video games instead of real-world activities. (现在,问题在于无节制地刷TikTok或者玩太多电子游戏,缺少参与现实世界的活动)”可知,家长如今面临的主要现代挑战是孩子无休止的网络沉迷。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Sturdy Leadership is a way for parents to be in charge where they set rules and still keep a close relationship with their children. They do this by recognizing their child’s feelings while holding firm (坚定) on what is best for everyone. How to eat like the Spanish One of the best things about visiting Spain is the foodie culture. B Hidden in the Mianhua Sinkhole (天坑) of Luocheng, Hechi City, Guangxi, lies a one-of-a-kind cliff-side (崖边) bookstore. C Shakespeare’s plays were so popular in the 16th and 17th centuries because they were good — and because they were cheap. D Kids have always pushed limits and asked for things that could be harmful to them. How to eat like the Spanish One of the best things about visiting Spain is the foodie culture.
