Why Traveling Is Good for You
Do you like traveling? More and more people enjoy traveling during their holidays. But why is traveling so popular? Here are some reasons.
First, traveling helps you learn about the world. When you visit a new place, you see different people, food, and cultures. For example, if you go to Yunnan, you can try crossing-the-bridge rice noodles and learn about the Dai people’s festivals. These experiences are much more interesting than reading about them in books.
Second, traveling is good for your health. Walking in mountains or swimming in the sea gives your body exercise. Also, being in nature helps you relax and forget your worries. Many people say they sleep better after a trip.
Third, traveling makes your life more colorful. You can try new things like riding an elephant in Thailand or skiing in Harbin. Even if something goes wrong — like losing your way or missing a bus — these become funny stories to tell your friends later.
However, traveling also has some problems. It can be expensive and tiring. Sometimes the weather is bad or the food doesn’t taste good. But most travelers agree that the good things are more than the bad ones.
So, where will you go on your next vacation? Start planning now!

Today was a wonderful day in Jingdezhen, and it was my first time coming here. The city is famous for its ceramics (陶瓷制品). The landscape made a deep impression (印象) on me on my arrival. There are many mountains around the city, and the air is very fresh.
First, I visited the Jingdezhen Ceramic Museum. There are so many beautiful ceramic pieces from different times. There are also some fine artworks made hundreds of years ago with beautiful pictures on them. Making ceramics needs many steps and a lot of skills. I was surprised at the complexity (复杂性) of the work. I tried to make a small piece of ceramic myself. It was hard for a boy like me, but I succeeded in making one.
Then I went to the Ancient Kiln Site Park (窑址公园). It was very interesting to see the places where the ancient workers used to make ceramics. I really wanted to know how the workers made ceramics. In the park, I watched an artist painting a plate. He was very creative. I found myself deeply drawn by his way of making ceramics. I tried making a small bowl with his guidance. It seemed like a piece of cake, but I failed to complete it. Finally, I bought a small ceramic cup as a souvenir for myself. It was a great way to remember the visit to Jingdezhen.
I really enjoyed my day in Jingdezhen. It is a place full of history and art. I can understand why it is called the “Porcelain Capital (瓷都)”. I believe I will have more chances to revisit it and learn more about ceramic culture in the future.

Jacques Cousteau was a man who loved the ocean deeply and often explored it on his holidays.
When he was a child in France, Cousteau was weak and often sick. Doctors suggested he swim to become stronger. That started his great love for water. From then on, he would go to see the ocean for a vacation if he was free. One day, a friend gave him a pair of goggles (护目镜). These goggles were a game changer. He could finally see the wonderful world under the water clearly.
At that time, the diving clothes were big and heavy. They made it hard for divers to move freely, and an air hose (软管) tied them to the boat. So Cousteau and his friend Emile Gagnan invented the Aqua Lung. It was the first tool that allowed divers to breathe underwater for a long time. With this, Cousteau was able to explore the ocean more freely.

He explored the cold waters of Antarctica and saw many interesting animals like penguins and whales. In Australia, he saw beautiful coral reefs (珊瑚礁) and even met the strange sea dragon like a leaf.

Three Students, Three Different Vacations
Emma (14, Shanghai):
I spent a week in Xiamen this July with my cousin. We rented bicycles and rode along the coast every morning. The sea breeze was refreshing after the hot city air. One afternoon we joined a local fishing family and helped pull in their nets. My hands smelled like fish for hours, but holding a live crab was worth it. I didn’t buy much — just a postcard for my teacher. The trip wasn’t luxurious, but it felt real.
Ryan (15, Wuhan):
My family drove to Zhangjiajie in early August. The karst mountains were exactly like the photos — tall, thin, and covered in green. We queued for two hours to take the cable car up Tianmen Mountain. The view above the clouds was breathtaking. I used up all my pocket money buying a wooden carving of a monkey. Was it overpriced? Probably. Do I regret it? Not at all.
Sophie (13, Guangzhou):
I stayed in my city this summer. Before you say “boring” — hear me out. I volunteered at a community library three times a week. I helped kids from migrant worker families read picture books. Every year, lots of people go to visit the Great Wall. The most popular part is Badaling. However, during my seven years in China, I never visited it. Because there are too many tourists. Actually, I like places that few people visit.
One day, I chose to visit Simatai—another part of the Great Wall. It’s not very easy to go up and few people go there.
At the beginning, I saw some vendors (小贩) walking along the paths with postcards. They shouted loudly to sell the postcards but I was not interested in them.
