Pop Mart: The Mystery Behind Blind Boxes
In the past decade, Pop Mart has revolutionized toy collecting through its innovative blind box concept. These small, sealed packages containing random collectible figures have created a global craze, particularly among teenagers and young adults.
The Blind Box Phenomenon
Standard blind boxes are priced at ¥59-69 ( $8-10 ) in China, while international markets see higher prices—up to $15 in the US and £12 in the UK. The excitement comes from not knowing which of the 12 possible figures you’ll get, with rare “hidden” versions appearing only once in every 144 boxes. This system has proven incredibly successful, with Pop Mart’s 2024 revenue reaching ¥13 billion ( $1.8 billion ).
Global Expansion Challenges
As Pop Mart expanded to over 30 countries, problems emerged. In London, a limited-edition Labubu release caused such crowding that police were called. Meanwhile, fake versions of popular figures flooded markets in Southeast Asia, selling for half the price but with poor quality.
Membership Benefits
To maintain customer loyalty, Pop Mart offers:
* 1 membership point per ¥1 spent
* Early access to new releases for Gold members ( ¥5,000+ annual spending )
* Increased chances ( from 1/144 to 1/72 ) of finding hidden figures when buying full sets
1. What makes blind boxes particularly attractive for buyers?
A. Their low cost. B. Their large size.
C. Their mysterious content. D. Their educational value.
2. What special benefit do Gold members receive?
A. Unlimited returns. B. Rare hidden figures.
C. More membership points. D. Early purchase opportunities.
3. Which of the following is true about Pop Mart?
A. Blind boxes of Pop Mart are all sold at fixed prices.
B. Pop Mart has changed the market with its innovation.
C. Pop Mart has gained great popularity among all ages.
D. Fake Labubu attracted the attention of London police.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have had the privilege to visit the Antarctic. We were on a small ship with 140 passengers. The West Antarctic Ice Sheet is where articles on climate change and human environmental predation (掠夺) start to lose their readers. People don’t want to hear about the negative effects of climate change, overpopulation, and environmental degradation. To me, at least, this remains a great mystery.
Given that we completely depend on this planet for our existence from the water we drink and the air we breathe to the stability of land and oceans this deliberate detachment (故意脱离) from nature always struck me as silly.
Is it really just about making money? Is it the inconvenience of changing our diets or habits? Is it ignorance, intentional or not? I thought a lot about this.
We don’t need to go to the end of the world to experience nature. But we surround ourselves with the familiar, the protective environment of our homes and cities, of our habits and choices. Everything else, such as stories from faraway places, sounds just like that tales from faraway places that don’t concern us directly.
But even though the adventure group of 140 travelers was very heterogeneous, the reaction was the same: Awe is the word that comes first to mind, and then beauty, harmony, and balance, as we witness the dynamical balance of a complex living system with many codependent operating parts.
In 2009, Johan Rockstrom at the Stockholm Resilience Center introduced a framework for understanding the nine planetary systems that sustain life on Earth. He identified their boundaries and tipping points, beyond which collapse becomes unavoidable and unpredictable.
One of the sleeping giants, all now starting to awaken, is the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, which, if melted (融化), could raise global sea levels by 10 feet, with serious consequences for coastal communities around the world.
4. What does the author think of human's separation from nature?
A. Acceptable. B. Wise C. Disappointing. D. Unreasonable.
5. What does the underlined word “heterogeneous” in paragraph 5probably mean?
A. Hopeful. B. Different. C. Interesting. D. Strange.
6. Why does the author go to the Antarctic?
A. To study a complex living system. B. To explore a less known continent.
C. To take unique pictures of the continent. D. To search for materials for writing an article.
7. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. The West Antarctic Ice Sheet is melting rapidly.
B. Coastal communities are unaffected by sea level rise.
C. The author is unconcerned about the melting of the ice sheet.
D. The consequences of the ice sheet melting are terrible.
【答案】4. D 5. B 6. B 7. D
【解析】
【导语】这是一篇夹叙夹议文。作者探访南极,感慨人类对自然环境破坏的漠视,指出南极冰盖融化将带来严重后果,呼吁人们关注地球生态危机。
【4题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“Given that we completely depend on this planet for our existence from the water we drink and the air we breathe to the stability of land and oceans this deliberate detachment (故意脱离) from nature always struck me as silly.(我们的生存完全依赖这颗星球 —— 从我们饮用的水、呼吸的空气,到陆地与海洋的稳定。这种刻意与自然割裂的态度,在我看来一直很荒唐。)”可知,作者认为人类脱离自然是不合理的。故选D项。
【5题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第五段“But even though the adventure group of 140 travelers was very heterogeneous, the reaction was the same: Awe is the word that comes first to mind, and then beauty, harmony, and balance, as we witness the dynamical balance of a complex living system with many codependent operating parts.(尽管这支由140名旅行者组成的探险队伍成分十分heterogeneous ,大家的感受却完全一致:脑海中首先浮现的词是敬畏,随后是美好、和谐与平衡 —— 我们亲眼见证了一个由众多相互依存的部分共同运作、维持着动态平衡的复杂生命系统。)”可知,the same应与heterogeneous是转折关系,所以猜测heterogeneous意为“不同的、各式各样的”,与different同义。故选B项。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段“Over the past couple of weeks, I have had the privilege to visit the Antarctic. (在过去几周里,我有幸访问了南极。)”和第五段“Awe is the word that comes first to mind, and then beauty, harmony, and balance, as we witness the dynamical balance of a complex living system with many codependent operating parts.(首先想到的词是敬畏,其次是美好、和谐与平衡。我们目睹了一个由众多相互依存的部件构成的复杂生命系统所呈现的动态平衡。)”可知,作者前往南极是为了亲身探索这片鲜为人知的大陆。故选B项。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“One of the sleeping giants, all now starting to awaken, is the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, which, if melted (融化), could raise global sea levels by 10 feet, with serious consequences for coastal communities around the world.(那些沉睡的“巨人”如今正纷纷苏醒,南极西部冰原便是其中之一。它一旦融化,可能使全球海平面上升10英尺,给世界各地沿海地区带来严重后果。)”可知,冰盖融化的后果十分可怕。故选D项。

My affair with sugar began innocently enough in my childhood, when I indulged (沉迷) in sweet treats as rewards for good behavior by overworked but loving parents, or as a means to celebrate special occasions. As I grew older, my craving (渴望) intensified, leading me to seek the sweet comfort of chocolate, Coke, and Cheese Cheetos. These sugary delights became my escape from the stress and worries in my life.
It wasn’t until my reflection in the mirror no longer matched the lively, intelligent person I felt inside that I realized the severity of my situation. Clothes that once fit me perfectly are now uncomfortably light, and climbing a flght of stairs leaves me breathless. Not to mention that, in the past two to three years, my weight gain has influenced my self-esteem, confidence, and overall well-being.
In my search for a healthier lifestyle, I decided to turn to zero-calorie drinks, believing they would be a healthier alternative to my beloved sugary drinks. However, my research led me to an alarming discovery of the dangers of aspartame, a commonly used artificial sweetener found in many zero-calorie drinks. Despite its lack of calories, aspartame has been linked to many health concerns including headaches, dizziness, and even more severe conditions. More studies are needed to learn about artificial sweeteners’ long-term effects on our health. Still, knowing this put me off zero-calorie drinks for a while!
With newfound knowledge and determination, I began my journey, to break free from sugar addiction. The journey was challenging, with persistent cravings and constant temptations (诱惑). However, armed with healthier snack alternatives, such as fruit and nuts, and the support of loved ones, I gradually weaned myself off the sugar roller coaster. I am rediscovering some of the joys of a more balanced lifestyle. Regular exercise became my companion, boosting my energy levels and reducing stress.
8. What initially attracted the author to sugar?

D. They pose a potential threat to health.
10. What does the underlined part mean in the last paragraph?
A. Stopped consuming sugar. B. Switched to sugar replacements.
C. Monitored my sugar levels. D. Learned the tricks of sugar control.
11. Which of the following can best describe the author?
A. Self-aware and reflective. B. Inquiring but careless.
C. Determined but impatient. D. Self-disciplined and ambitious.
【答案】8. B 9. D 10. A 11. A

Born in 1990 in Hebei province, Wang Haoze, China’s first female space flight engineer, grew up with a strong belief from her mother that “there is nothing a girl cannot do.” This has contributed a lot to her growth, shaping her character and fueling her ambition.
After earning her master’s degree from Southeast University, Wang joined the Beijing Aerospace Propulsion Institute in 2015, engaged in rocket engine pre-research. When China began the process to select its third group of astronauts in 2018, she seized the opportunity and applied. Transitioning from an engineer to an astronaut required not only technical knowledge and skills but also outstanding adaptability, physical fitness and mental resilience.

Happiness is a loving family, a good meal, and a yearly income of $75, 000. According to a study, as people earn more money, their day-to-day happiness rises until their yearly income hits $75, 000. ___16___
The appeal is easy to see. The study provided a simple solution to a tricky life problem and, to people making less than $75, 000, offered a goal to struggle for. But like those other experiments, the popular perception of the research is wrong. ___17___ No. But it can improve happiness if you spend it thoughtfully.
___18___ These include your work, health, relationships, schedule, education, personality, life philosophy, and so on. If you’re secure, healthy, living in a good neighborhood, and enjoying an active social life, then the figure in your checkbook doesn’t weigh as much on your daily happiness. In other words, if you’re struggling, unhealthy, lonely, or living in an unsafe neighborhood, then your financial difficulty will likely worsen those challenges. Indeed, they are the cause of some of those struggles.
It is true that there is a strong connection between happiness and money. But it doesn’t mean that money can buy happiness. ___19___ It merely stands in for the things, services, and experiences we buy with it. So when it comes to discussing money and happiness, it’s not just about how much money you have. It also depends on how you use it.
Spend your money on the things, experiences, and necessities. ___20___ Otherwise, your spending habits can actively work against your well-being and life satisfaction. In a word, people with more money are happier isn’t just the size of their bank accounts —it’s how they use their money to generate happiness.
A. Can money buy happiness?
B. Money is a medium of exchange after all.
C. Are people happy without enough money?
D. Then your money will make your life happier.
E. At this point, their happiness tends to stabilize.
F. Happiness rose alongside income all the way up.
G. Happiness is a complex emotion influenced by many factors.
【答案】16. E 17. A 18. G 19. B 20. D

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Leo had always been the quietest boy in Mrs. Anderson’s class. During lively break times, while others were joking and sharing stories, Leo was usually found in his corner, absorbed in a book. It wasn’t that he disliked his classmates; it was the secret he carried like a heavy stone in his chest — he stuttered (口吃). The fear of his words getting unclear, of seeing impatience or mockery (嘲笑) in others’ eyes, built a “wall” around him. To his classmates, he was just the shy, perhaps slightly strange, new boy.
When Mrs. Anderson announced the annual class speech competition that everyone had to take part in, Leo’s heart dropped. The thought of standing in front of the whole class made his hands turn cold. He spent sleepless nights imagining the disaster. He even considered pretending illness to avoid it, but a small, determined part of him wanted to be heard, to connect with others beyond the pages of his books.
The frightening day arrived. One by one, confident students walked to the front, delivering their speeches on various topics with ease. With each name called, Leo’s anxiety grew. When his turn came, the walk to the front felt like a mile. The classroom was quiet, all eyes on him. He held his note cards tightly. As he hesitated, a few uncertain giggles (咯咯地笑) came from the back of the room.
His face turned red. He opened his mouth, but only a weak, silent breath escaped. Fear set in. Just as he was about to apologize and run away, he looked up and met the eyes of Sarah, who sat in the front row. She wasn’t laughing. Instead, she offered a warm, friendly smile and a small, firm nod of encouragement. In that simple, quiet sign, Leo felt a bit of hope.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Taking a deep breath, Leo looked at Sarah again and began to speak.

When Leo finished his speech, the classroom was completely silent for a moment.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】范文
Taking a deep breath, Leo looked at Sarah again and began to speak. His voice was trembling at first. The first few words were a struggle, each one a battle against the stubborn blockage in his throat. He focused on Sarah’s steady, friendly gaze, using it as an anchor. Slowly, as if pushing through a thick fog, his sentences started to flow more smoothly. He forgot the notes in his hand and simply began to share the story he had prepared about his grandfather — a story he truly loved. The stutter was still there, popping up occasionally, but Leo found the courage to pause, take a breath, and continue.
When Leo finished his speech, the classroom was completely silent for a moment. Then, Sarah started clapping. It wasn’t loud or showy, but firm and sincere. Like a chain reaction, her clap was joined by another, and then another, until the entire room was filled with warm, genuine applause. Mrs. Anderson was smiling proudly. No one laughed at the pauses or the stumbles. In that ocean of acceptance, Leo felt the heavy stone in his chest finally disappeared. He had not just given a speech; he had found his voice.

* 1 membership point per ¥1 spent
* Early access to new releases for Gold members ( ¥5,000+ annual spending )
* Increased chances ( from 1/144 to 1/72 ) of finding hidden figures when buying full sets

C
A. Sugary delights. B. Childhood rewards.
C. Stressful situations. D. Personal achievements.
9. What can be learned about zero-calorie drinks?
A. They are free of artificial sweeteners.
B. They can contribute to weight loss.
C. They are highly favored by the market.
D. They pose a potential threat to health.
10. What does the underlined part mean in the last paragraph?
A. Stopped consuming sugar. B. Switched to sugar replacements.
C. Monitored my sugar levels. D. Learned the tricks of sugar control.
11. Which of the following can best describe the author?
A. Self-aware and reflective. B. Inquiring but careless.
C. Determined but impatient. D. Self-disciplined and ambitious.
D
The training included exhausting physical conditioning, psychological training and space environment simulations. During centrifuge (离心机) tests, Wang endured forces six times her body weight, with her hands resting on a red button that could stop the machine at any moment. Not once did she press it. “I am the only woman among the country's third group of astronauts,” she says, “and I don’t think I should receive special treatment. I had the competence and confidence to compete with my other 17 teammates.”
After years of rigorous training, Wang was selected for the Shenzhou-19 mission. On October 29, 2024, she was introduced to the public. She spent 183 days in orbit, carrying out 86 scientific experiments, video- calling students from Bulgaria, and introducing an AI assistant named “Xiaohang” to help with daily tasks. On April 30,2025, she returned to Earth safely.
Reflecting on her journey, Wang said: “From being a rocket engine designer to a space engineer, my role has evolved, yet my unwavering commitment to serving my country through space exploration remains the same.” Her story is powerful evidence of what determination and hard work can achieve.
12. Why is Wang’s mother mentioned in paragraph 1?
A. To show the source of Wang's interest.
B. To emphasize family influence on Wang’s character.
C. To show off Wang's childhood.
D. To illustrate Wang's original dream.
13. What was Wang’s choice after earning her master’s degree?
A. To become a teacher. B. To work as a researcher.
C. To train as an astronaut. D. To further study abroad.
14. How can we describe Wang’s training as an astronaut?
A. Exhausting but fascinating. B. Painful and boring.
C. Challenging but rewarding. D. Competitive and dangerous.
15. Which of the following is TRUE about Wang’s Shenzhou-19 mission?
A. She spent more than 5 months in orbit.
B. She set a new record for the longest space stay.
C. She developed a new AI assistant called “Xiaohang”.
