The finless porpoises (江豚) are small and friendly animals. They mainly live in China’s Yangtze River. 31 They eat small fish and shrimp (虾), helping to keep the river clean and balanced. And they use sound to find their ways in the water.
Sadly, these animals are in great danger. 32 The main reasons are pollution, overfishing and boat traffic (交通). Dirty water from factories runs into the river, making it hard for the animals to live. 33 And they leave little food for the animals. Also, boats and ships make loud noises, and they are bad for the animals.
34 First, they are part of nature and play a role in the ecosystem. Second, they’re treasures of China.
35 We should stop throwing rubbish into the river and overfishing. We need to keep the river clean. Schools can teach students about the importance of protecting these animals.
If we act now, we can still save these animals. Let’s work together to protect them before it’s too late.
A.Fishermen sometimes catch too many fish.
B.There are only about 1,200 left in the wild.
