In the summer of 2026, a biology research institute published the "White Paper on the Protection of Rare Plants and Animals in China". It showed that the number of giant pandas, Chinese alligators and other rare species has been increasing steadily. It also called on teenagers to pay attention to more endangered species.

The report said that the giant panda population has reached over 1,800 in the wild. This is a great success of China's protection efforts. "We are proud of this achievement, but we still have much work to do," said Dr Wang, one of the researchers.

Another success story is the Chinese alligator. It is one of the most endangered reptiles in the world and is even rarer than the giant panda. Thanks to the protection programmes, its population has grown from only 150 in the 1990s to over 300 today.

However, the report warned that many other species are still in danger. The Yangtze finless porpoise, for example, has only about 1,000 left. Dr Wang said, "We need more young people to join in the protection work. Every small action can make a difference."

Experts said that habitat loss and climate change are threatening these birds. They encouraged young people to help protect wetlands and stop pollution.
