Long ago, in ancient China, there was a story about the invention of silk. People believed that silk was first invented by Leizu, the wife of the Yellow Emperor. Leizu learned how to make cocoons (蚕茧) into soft and strong cloth. This magical cloth became known as “silk”, and it was so valuable that it was called “China’s Gold”. Following the kings’ orders, the Chinese kept the secret of making silk for centuries.
But then, something amazing happened! During the Han Dynasty, the brave officer Zhang Qian traveled west as far as Central Asia and brought silk there. As years passed by, silk became so important that the trade road from Europe to China got its name—the Silk Road.
The Silk Road became a busy highway for traders who carried things across deserts and mountains. From China, people sold silk and tea. In return, they received treasures such as spices (香料), gold and silver from the West. At the very beginning, it was mainly about trade; then people began to share ideas, technologies and cultures. For example, Chinese inventions like papermaking were spread to the West, while new ideas about math and science came to China.
Most importantly, the Silk Road helped different cultures learn from each other. Art, music and even language were shared along this ancient road. In places like the Dunhuang Grottoes (石窟) in China, you can see how art pieces combined (融合) Eastern and Western styles into something distinctive (独特的). It can not be seen anywhere else.
The story of the Silk Road tells us how people from faraway lands could become friends through trade and shared ideas. Many kinds of heritage works mix old skills with modern football spirit perfectly.
Zhuang brocade from Guangxi, one of China’s four famous brocades, is made into footballs, jerseys and dolls. Its mascot doll carries a football, standing for good wishes.
Other works cover Yi embroidery (彝绣), hemp weaving (麻编), boxwood carving (黄杨木雕), lacquerware (螺钿漆器), fahua porcelain (珐华瓷), Huzhou writing brushes (湖笔) and paper-cutting. Each craft has a long history and special traditional patterns, designed into useful and popular World Cup gifts.
This overseas spread of heritage shows China’s culture and business wisdom. First, the World Cup offers a worldwide platform for old crafts to meet foreign buyers at low cost. Second, creative design turns old craftworks into useful, collectible trendy goods. For example, Yi embroidery’s industrial chain gives thousands of craftswomen jobs; Zhuang brocade uses handwork plus machines to keep traditional skills and fulfill big orders. Most importantly, it is not just selling goods abroad, but spreading Chinese cultural value and showing our cultural confidence to the whole world.Answer the following questions with no more than 18 words.

Passage 8
The Four Treasures of the Study
The “Four Treasures of the Study” are the essential tools for traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting. They are the brush, inkstick, paper, and inkstone. Each has a long history and unique features.
The brush, usually made of bamboo and animal hair, is the most important tool. It can produce strokes of various thicknesses and styles. The inkstick is made of soot and glue. To make liquid ink, calligraphers grind the inkstick with water on the inkstone. This grinding process is slow and requires patience, but it produces high-quality ink.
The paper used in calligraphy is often xuanzhi, which comes from Xuancheng in Anhui. It is soft, durable, and absorbent, making it ideal for ink. Xuanzhi can preserve the ink’s colour and texture for hundreds of years.
These four tools are not just tools; they are part of the artistic experience. Calligraphers believe that using high-quality tools helps them express their emotions more freely. Today, even with modern technology, many artists still prefer these traditional tools.
1.What are the “Four Treasures of the Study”?
______________________________________________________
87.What is the inkstick made of?
______________________________________________________
88.How do calligraphers make liquid ink?
_____________________________________________________
89.Why is xuanzhi paper ideal for calligraphy?

Passage 2
请阅读下面语篇,从每小题所给的选项中,选出一个最佳选项。

Teenagers and Traditional Culture
Nowadays, more and more teenagers are showing great interest in traditional Chinese culture. A recent survey among 1,000 students in a middle school shows that about 80% of them have taken part in activities about traditional culture, such as making dumplings, learning calligraphy, or visiting museums.

Passage 10
Jianzi, or Chinese shuttlecock kicking, is a traditional sport that has been popular in China for over 2,000 years. Unlike badminton, which uses a racket, jianzi is played using only the feet, knees, chest, or head to keep a weighted shuttlecock in the air. It is simple, fun, and requires no expensive equipment.
In recent years, jianzi has entered many schools as part of PE classes. In a primary school in Guangzhou, students have jianzi lessons twice a week. At first, many students found it difficult to control the shuttlecock. However, with practice, they improved quickly. “Jianzi helps me relax after long hours of study,” said Li Ming, a sixth-grade student. “It also improves my balance and concentration.”
The school often holds jianzi competitions. During breaks, students gather on the playground to kick jianzi together. This activity not only strengthens their bodies but also helps them build friendships. Teachers notice that students who play jianzi regularly are more active and have better communication skills.
Furthermore, jianzi is becoming popular worldwide. There are now international jianzi competitions, attracting players from Europe, Asia, and America. Passage 3
Shadow puppetry (皮影戏), an ancient form of storytelling, has been listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. It uses leather puppets to create shadows on a screen while telling stories, often with music.
In the past, shadow puppetry was very popular in rural China. During festivals or harvest seasons, villagers would gather to watch performances. The stories were often about historical events, folk tales, or legends. It was not just entertainment; it was a way to pass on culture and values.

The Four Treasures of the Study

The brush, usually made of bamboo and animal hair, is the most important tool. It can produce strokes of various thicknesses and styles. The inkstick is made of soot and glue. To make liquid ink, calligraphers grind the inkstick with water on the inkstone. This grinding process is slow and requires patience, but it produces high-quality ink.
The paper used in calligraphy is often xuanzhi, which comes from Xuancheng in Anhui. It is soft, durable, and absorbent, making it ideal for ink. Xuanzhi can preserve the ink’s colour and texture for hundreds of years.
