Exercise snacks are a popular and inventive new way for people to stay fit. Instead of spending hours on the playground, people break that “large meal” into exercise “snacks”. These exercise snacks can last anywhere from 20 seconds to two minutes. Then you can have a rest for 30 minutes to four hours before another snack.
It is reported that exercise snacks can be as useful as traditional exercise methods. Just three exercise snacks a day can benefit (使受益) your physical health. Besides that, there are lots of other benefits. Your concentration (专注力) and creativity get better, and you can become more productive. Also, “snacking” throughout the day stops you from sitting too long.
There are so many acceptable exercise snacks, like doing sit-ups, jumping rope or running up and down some stairs (楼梯). But for those who don’t know where to start, here are some helpful exercise choices:
Exercise such as lifting weights will satisfy the needs. Since most people don’t keep weights at their offices, lift full water bottles.
Squats (深蹲)—moving your body as if to sit down while keeping your back straight. Five to ten of these should make a good snack.
For those who don’t like traditional exercise, simply turn up the music. Pick a lively song and start dancing. It’ll make for a fun workout.
What are you waiting for? Let’s get moving. Your body will thank you for it!

Passage 7
Walking Backward: A Surprising Way to Improve Memory and Health
Need to remember facts fast before an exam? Walking backward might help. UK scientists at the University of Roehampton studied 114 volunteers who watched a video. Afterward, one group walked forward, another walked backward, and a third stood still. All were then tested on the video. The backward-walking group scored two more correct answers than the others.
Why does this work? The lead researcher, Aleksandar Aksentijevic, explains that time and memory are connected to space in our minds. Moving backward physically seems to help people remember the past more easily.
This simple activity isn’t just good for your brain. It is good for your body too. It’s more challenging than walking forward, burning more calories in a short time. It’s also easier on the knees and can help strengthen your spine (脊椎), reducing back pain. This may be why it’s a popular exercise among some older adults.

Passage 9
Dear Tom,
How are things back home? Everything’s going great here!
Today, I had acupuncture (针灸) for the first time! I woke up this morning with a bad backache, so I called the hotel reception desk and asked if they knew of any nearby hospitals. They gave me a list of some places I could go to, and it included an acupuncture clinic (门诊) that was right next door, so I decided to have a try.
I was surprised when the clinic staff started putting in needles (针), because I hardly felt anything at first. I thought it would hurt, but in fact I didn’t even know that I had any needles sticking in me. Then I started feeling a warm sensation (知觉) in my lower back, and I became very relaxed.
I think it must have helped, because my back stopped hurting. Afterwards, I went to a shop next door that sells Chinese herbal medicines (草药). I was amazed because there were huge glass jars full of all kinds of roots, leaves, and plants, and all sorts of things I cannot even describe. Then behind the counters was a large cupboard going all the way up to the ceiling (天花板), full of wooden drawers containing different kinds of ingredients. I didn’t know what to buy, so I ended up buying two boxes of dried ginseng (人参)—one for me, and one as a gift for you. I’ll give it to you when I get back.

Passage 10
Dear Evan Kyle,
Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for China. I heard that you’ve started your China tour again. My family really hope you can visit our hometown, Changchun.
The Changchun marathon is just around the corner, and my whole family are caught up in the excitement! I’m training hard for the Happy Run. It’s not as long or as challenging as the full-distance race, but it’s perfect for me to get a taste of the marathon spirit.
My mom saw the half-marathon as a personal goal to achieve and a way to test her limits. She had to follow a strict training schedule and run every day to build up her endurance(耐力). I could see how determined she was, and a sense of pride rose in my heart when I saw her make progress.
Then there was my dad, who was training for the full-distance marathon. Almost every day after work, my dad headed over to Nanxi Wetland Park to practice running. Watching him push himself, step by step, mile after mile, I was filled with admiration. He’s aiming for that finish line, dreaming of the moment he can say he’s completed a full 42-kilometer marathon.
In my opinion, running a marathon isn’t just about the physical challenge. It’s also about the mental strength.
Anyway, enough talk! I can’t wait to meet you on the marathon field on May 25th. It’s going to be an amazing day, filled with running, laughter, and unforgettable memories!
Yours,
Teng Fei

Passage 1
Sugar is a sweet thing that is used to cook food and can make drinks sweet. And it is loved by most people. But not all sugar is healthy to us.
Naturally produced sugar, for example in fruit, is considered healthy. However, refined (精制的) sugar is not healthy and is added to many processed (加工过的) foods to make them taste better. To people’s surprise, this refined sugar can be found in many delicious foods like bread. Besides that, refined sugar has no value to our health and offers empty calories (卡路里). It also has no fiber (纤维素), unlike the natural sugar in fruit, so it is easy to eat a lot. Too many calories lead to putting on more weight. Too much sugar will also harm our teeth and we even get some diseases in our later life.
So what can we do about too much sugar, especially the hidden sugar in our diet? It seems that we can get some help from the government. It should regulate (控制) the amount of sugar that companies can add to foods. Next, schools should tell students about the health problems of eating too much sugar. What’s more, it is necessary for students to eat more vegetables and fruit with less sugar.
Although sugar is delicious, it still puts our future health at risk. It is important for young people to know about the danger of eating too much sugar.
1.Why is refined sugar added to many foods?
A.To make the foods fresher.
B.To make the foods healthier.
C.To make the foods more delicious.
2.How is fruit sugar different from refined sugar?
A.It has fiber. B.It is processed. C.It’s easy to eat a lot.
3.According to the passage, which of the followings probably has refined sugar?
A.Bread & cakes. B.Carrots & onions. C.Bananas & apples.
4.What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us?
A.Examples of healthy eating.
B.Ways to control sugar in our diet.
C.Reasons for adding sugar to many foods.
5.What is important for young people according to the passage?
A.Eating no sugar. B.Eating more sugar. C.Eating proper sugar.
1.C 2.A 3.A 4.B 5.C
1.根据第二段第二句“However, refined (精制的) sugar is not healthy and is added to many processed (加工过的) foods to make them taste better.”(精制糖不健康,被添加到许多加工食品中是为了让它们味道更好)可知,添加精制糖是为了让食物更美味。
2.根据第二段倒数第三句“It also has no fiber (纤维素), unlike the natural sugar in fruit, so it is easy to eat a lot.”(它也没有纤维素,不像水果中的天然糖)可知,精制糖没有纤维素,而水果中的天然糖含有纤维素。

Passage 3
Trying to lose weight can be difficult, and while we all know exercise and diet are both basic needs, which one is more important?
If you had to choose, should you be hitting the gym, or eating salads? There are many ways you can burn a few hundred calories (卡路里): running for 20 minutes, an hour of swimming, or singing your favorite song 23 times. But the point is, it takes time to burn a lot of calories even with the most tiring activity, not to mention the time spent on the way to the gym, and then back home to clean up.
Now, compare this to the number of calories in a chocolate bar, which is often over 200 calories. You could either walk for about an hour to burn the 200 calories, or you could simply not eat that chocolate bar. Which sounds easier to you? How about running for 30 minutes daily or cutting out those two cans of soda? Many physicians (医师) point out that there are a lot of high-sugar, high-fat, high-calorie foods we could cut out from our diet, to see weight loss results more quickly. And studies also show that diet does actually play a bigger role in weight loss than exercise. A survey of 2000 children found that the level of physical activity was not the main reason for their weight. And a study of 3000 adults discovered that cutting down calories was connected to greater weight loss than exercise alone.
Of course, exercise has many health advantages besides weight loss, like slowing the aging process and improving mental (心理) health. But at the end of the day, if you expect to lose weight and tend to get a better deal, you’d better focus on your diet first.
1.The underlined word “loss” most probably means ________.
A.the act of reducing something B.the state of being heavy C.the feeling of being hungry
2.The third paragraph mainly tells us that ________.

B.exercise like walking plays an important part in keeping our bodies healthy
C.your diet has a greater influence on your weight loss than exercise
3.The energy in a chocolate bar ________.
A.is as much as the energy we need for singing a song 23 times
B.may be burnt by walking for about half an hour
C.should not be added to a diet when you want to lose weight
4.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.A survey of 3000 children found out that cutting down calories is more important.
B.Exercise has many health advantages besides helping us lose weight.
C.In fact, exercise is not needed when we want to lose weight.
5.Which of the following would you choose as the title of the passage?
A.Exercise Compared With Diet
B.The Importance of Losing Weight
C.Different Diets
1.A 2.C 3.C 4.B 5.A
1.结合“there are a lot of high-sugar, high-fat, high-calorie foods we could cut out from our diet”,从日常饮食中剔除掉大量高糖、高脂、高热量食物,目的是实现weight loss(体重下降/减重)。loss含义就是“减少,削减”,对应A选项“the act of reducing something”。
2.第三段通过对比消耗卡路里与摄入卡路里(如巧克力棒),引用了医师的观点及调查研究,核心观点是饮食对减肥的影响比运动更大(diet does actually play a bigger role in weight loss than exercise)。
4.根据最后一段第一句“Of course, exercise has many health advantages besides weight loss”可知, 运动除了帮助我们减肥外,还有许多健康的好处,与B项表述一致。
因此A项“Exercise Compared With Diet”最能概括全文主旨。
Passage 4
Now, fewer middle school students in Shenzhen need glasses. This may be because people pay much more attention to PE classes.
Shenzhen started the “one PE class every day” policy (政策) in primary and middle schools on Jan 1, 2024. One year later, the city government reported the results. The myopia rate (近视率) among children and young students fell to 55.5%. It was 1.2% lower than in 2023. At the same time, the total number of students in good health rose by over 6%.
Since the start of this new term, many places in China have made some changes. They want students to have proper break activities and enough PE classes. These help improve their health. Beijing gave out a set of very clear plans. For example, one is to have one PE class a day for all primary and middle school students. Another is to make sure of at least two hours of sports every day. Also, Hunan, Hebei, Gansu, Tianjin and Sichuan have made similar changes.
Why are these changes happening? The public are worried about students’ health. A 2024 report shows some problems among students, including myopia, overweight, and scoliosis These are now more serious than common illnesses. Problems with feeling worried or unhappy are also increasing in recent years.
“Parents and schools now care more about PE,” said Shen Hongwen, a PE teacher in Shanghai. “They value not only grades but also students’ learning and health.” Shen also added that many sports training centres have appeared. This shows that people now understand: school success and health are both important for students’ growth and development.
Many teachers strongly believe sports aren’t harmful to learning. Instead, they help students study better. They also make students stronger in thinking. “Proper break activities help students learn faster, think better, and come up with new ideas,” a school principal in Hainan said.
1.Why does the writer list the numbers in Paragraph 2?
A.To show good results of the policy. B.To explain how to perform the policy.
C.To introduce the background of the policy. D.To warn students of serious health problems.
2.What does the underlined word “These” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Students’ bad study habits. B.Worries from the public.
C.Changes happening in cities. D.Some health problems among students.
3.What can we learn from the passage?
A.The myopia rate of Shenzhen students rose in 2025.
B.PE has a good influence on students’ health and study.
C.Sports training centres are disappearing in many cities.
D.All cities have carried out the “one PE class every day” policy.
4.Which is the best title of the passage?
A.More Rules, Less Students’ Growth B.More Sports, Better Health for Students
C.More Policies, More Teaching Methods D.More Activities, Lower Grades at School
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.B 4.B
2.前文提到“A 2024 report shows some problems among students, including myopia, overweight, and scoliosis”,“These”承接上文,指代报告中提到的近视、超重、脊柱侧凸等学生健康问题。

Passage 6
“Forest bathing,” or Shinrin-yoku, is a Japanese practice that involves immersing oneself in a forest atmosphere. It is not exercise, hiking, or jogging. It is simply being in nature, connecting with it through our senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. The practice began in Japan in the 1980s as a way to combat the high levels of stress and burnout among tech workers.
Since then, studies have shown that a two-hour forest bathing session can have measurable health benefits. It has been proven to lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduce the production of the stress hormone cortisol, and boost the immune system. The secret, scientists believe, lies in “phytoncides”, which are natural oils released by trees and plants.
When people breathe in these compounds, their bodies increase the number and activity of a type of white blood cell called natural killer (NK) cells, which help fight off infections and even cancer.
In our modern, urbanized world, where people spend over 90% of their time indoors, the practice of forest bathing offers a simple, accessible, and powerful antidote to the pressures of daily life. It reminds us that a basic connection to the natural world is not a luxury, but a necessity for our well-being.
1.Is forest bathing the same as going for a fast-paced hike in the woods?
___________________________________________________________________________________________
2.According to the passage, what was the original purpose of starting the practice of forest bathing in Japan in the 1980s?
_______________________________________________________________________________________
3.How long does a forest bathing session need to last to produce measurable health benefits?
__________________________________________________________________________________
4.How do phytoncides affect the human body to help fight illness?
___________________________________________________________________________________
5.According to the passage, why does the author call forest bathing “a necessity” for modern people?
__________________________________________________________________________________
6.Do you think schools in big cities should include regular “nature time” or forest bathing activities in their curriculum? (Give your opinion and explain why or why not.)
___________________________________________________________________________________________
1. No.
2. The original purpose was to combat the high levels of stress and burnout among tech workers.
3. A two-hour forest bathing session.
4. They increase the number and activity of natural killer (NK) cells in the human body.
5. Because modern people spend over 90% of their time indoors and are under great pressure from daily life, so the author believes connecting with nature is a necessity for their well-being, not a luxury.
6.Yes, I think they should. Because it can help students relieve stress from heavy schoolwork, improve their mental and physical health, and teach them to appreciate nature. /No, I don’t think it’s necessary. Because the school curriculum is already very tight, and adding such activities might be difficult to organize. Students can also connect with nature on weekends with their families.
1.文章第一段“It is not exercise, hiking, or jogging. It is simply being in nature, connecting with it through our senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch.”
2.第一段“The practice began in Japan in the 1980s as a way to combat the high levels of stress and burnout among tech workers.”
3.第二段“Since then, studies have shown that a two-hour forest bathing session can have measurable health benefits.”
4.原文“The secret, scientists believe, lies in ‘phytoncides’, which are natural oils released by trees and plants.”
5.根据“In our modern, urbanized world, where people…to the pressures of daily life.”
Yes, I think they should.或No, I don’t think it’s necessary.,再来给出对应的理由。
Passage 7
About 41.1 percent of Chinese men were overweight or obese (肥胖的) compared with 27.7 percent of Chinese women, according to a study published in a well-known medical journal.
Chinese Body Mass Index (BMI体质指数) system describes overweight as BMI from 24 to 27.9 kg/m2 and obesity as BMI at or above 28 kg/m2. You can know your BMI with the following formula.
Researchers studied data from about 15.8 million people across about 250 cities in China. According to Chinese BMI standard, 34.8 percent of the studied population was overweight and 14.1 percent was obese. These people were aged 18 or above.
There are several reasons why men are more likely to be obese. As fathers, husbands, and brothers, men usually have to stand long-term excessive (过度的) stress and negative feelings which can make the body produce more stress hormones. Such hormones play a role in increasing fat collecting.
In order to reduce stress, men often tend to drink alcohol (酒), eat an unbalanced diet, and stay up late into the night. Some other habits, like sitting for too long without moving at work and sleeping irregularly (不规律地) are also closely related to obesity. All the above can add to the risk of becoming obese.
By region (地区), the percentage of overweight and obesity in the north was generally higher than that in the south, with Inner Mongolia (37.1 percent), Shandong (37.1 percent), and Hebei (36.6 percent) being the top three.
People in higher BMI groups tend to have a greater number of complications (并发症). The early examination and intervention (干预) are important ways to prevent obesity-related complications.
1.Was the percentage of obesity in Hebei higher than that in Shandong according to the study?
_______________________________________________________________________________________
2.If a boy is 1.5 m tall and his BMI is 24 kg/m2, how heavy is he?
_______________________________________________________________________________________
3.Why are men more likely to be obese according to the passage?
___________________________________________________________________________________________
4.If you become a little overweight, will you make up your mind to lose weight? Why or why not? (about 30 words)
_______________________________________________________________________________________
1. No, it wasn’t.
2. He is 54 kg./54 kg.
3. Because men usually have long-term excessive stress and negative feelings (which make the body produce more stress hormones to increase fat collecting).
4.Yes, I will. Because overweight may lead to complications and early intervention is crucial for health.
1.根据“with Inner Mongolia (37.1 percent), Shandong (37.1 percent), and Hebei (36.6 percent) being the top three”可知,河北的肥胖及超重比例低于山东。故填No, it wasn’t.
故填He is 54 kg./54 kg.
3.根据“There are several reasons why men are more likely to be obese. As fathers, husbands, and brothers, men usually have to stand long-term excessive stress and negative feelings which can make the body produce more stress hormones.” Because men usually have long-term excessive stress and negative feelings (which make the body produce more stress hormones to increase fat collecting).
Yes, I will. Because overweight may lead to complications and early intervention is crucial for health.
Passage 8
Physical exercise is good for our mind, body and spirit. Today, working out through online videos is becoming very popular. Since the Internet is widely used, it’s very easy for us to do so. That means we can work out anytime anywhere.
One of my friends, Lin Fei, followed short workout videos to do daily exercise. “With live programs, I feel like working out with my friends, which encourages me to hold on until the last minute.” she said. Another friend of mine, Michael, told me that workout videos let him feel so comfortable. “I have a fear of working out at the gym (健身房) because I don’t like being watched by others. Working out at home makes working out much more enjoyable.” he said.
With their examples, I decided to give it a try. When I told my plan to my elder sister, a P.E. teacher, she reminded me that workout videos could be helpful but might still carry some problems.
“Without being with someone else present, you will be less willing (愿意的) to work out to your best. Working out at the gym allows you to have advice in real time and get pushed harder.” my sister said. “Well, if you really want to have a try, first, choose proper programs or videos. That’s very important. And then ask your friends for advice. Their experiences can give you a good insight into what you can expect. Anyway, don’t be addicted (沉迷的) to it. You should try different ways to work out to be healthy.”
According to her suggestions, I finally followed an online workout program with personalized help that is held for three months. After the first period of training, I felt it very practical and helpful when I put in the right amount (量) of work along with a strong will. Compared with going to the gym, using online videos to work out is a much cheaper and time-saving choice. But it can be difficult sometimes when I’m too lazy or too busy to stick to it.

For those who don’t like traditional exercise, simply turn up the music. Pick a lively song and start dancing. It’ll make for a fun workout.

As March starts a new school term, “Health First” is very important in education. Schools must offer enough PE lessons and at least two hours of daily exercise. Tsinghua University sets a very good example by stopping all classes after 5 p.m. to make sure students have enough time to relax and exercise. It also encourages students to take part in all kinds of outdoor activities and makes a swimming test necessary for graduation.
Exercise brings you many benefits, but you must pay attention to safety during exercise. Here are some useful tips.
Before doing sports, you are supposed to spend enough time doing warm-up exercises, such as stretching your arms and legs, moving your neck and waist. It can protect your muscles and joints from being hurt. Besides, you should not exercise on an empty stomach or right after meals. And remember to wear comfortable sports clothes and shoes.
While exercising, you should choose suitable sports according to your physical conditions and never push yourselves too hard. It’s wise to stop and rest when you feel tired or uncomfortable. Please follow the rules in PE classes and avoid running or jumping in a dangerous way. What’s more, you can drink a little warm water when you are thirsty instead of drinking too much at a time.
After exercising, you shouldn’t sit or lie down immediately. Instead, you can do some relaxing activities to cool down. What’s more, don’t forget to put on clothes in time to keep warm.
Health is very important for everyone and it’s the basis of study. So keep exercising every day to build strong bodies and strong wills.

Passage 9
Dear Tom,
How are things back home?
Love,
John

C.Reasons for adding sugar to many foods.
5.What is important for young people according to the passage?

-Dragon boat racing
Dragon boat racing is an old Chinese sport and appeared in the World Games for the first time on Aug 9. Indonesia, Ukraine and Thailand each took a gold, showing the sport’s popularity around the world.

Baduanjin, also known as Eight Pieces of Brocade, doesn’t need much space or time and is usually played with slow and quiet music. It uses special breathing skills to improve both physical and mental health.
Baduanjin is one of the most ancient forms of Chinese qigong (a system of deep-breathing exercises). This qigong style centers on breathing — by taking slow, deep breaths. It helps relax our body and calms the mind. The practice of Baduanjin is believed to bring lots of benefits to health, such as improving physical fitness, improving sleep, improving mental state and reducing stress. The great advantage of Baduanjin lies in its accessibility (可达性). People of all ages and fitness levels can practice it without any special tools or experience. Whether performed in the park or the comfort of one’s home, you can do Baduanjin easily.

2.If a boy is 1.5 m tall and his BMI is 24 kg/m2, how heavy is he?
_______________________________________________________________________________________
3.Why are men more likely to be obese according to the passage?

1.What is becoming very popular now?
________________________________________________________________________________
2.Why does Michael dislike working out at the gym?
________________________________________________________________________________
3.What is the problem of working out without someone else present?
_______________________________________________________________________
4.How did the writer feel about his first period of training?
_________________________________________________________________________
5.Would you like to follow online videos to work out? Why or why not?
