They share practical travel advice for tourists. B. They compare different modes of transportation. C. They explore unique and challenging travel experiences. D. They offer alternative fuel sources and their applications. B 2. D 3. Is That Bike Diesel, Mate?: One man, one bike and the first Lap Around Australia on Used Cooking Oil by Paul Carter部分的“There are lots of ways to travel around Australia. You could do it by plane, train or car. But author Paul Carter decided to tour the country on a homemade motorcycle that runs on cooking oil.(在澳大利亚有很多种旅行方式。你可以乘飞机、火车或汽车去。但作家保罗·卡特决定骑一辆用食用油驱动的自制摩托车环游这个国家。)”可知,作家保罗·卡特不是使用一辆用食用油驱动的自制摩托车环游,由此可知,保罗·卡特旅行的特别之处在于他使用一种非常规燃料旅行的。故选B项。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据You Are Awful (But I Like You) Travels Through Unloved Britain by Tim Moore部分的“Follow him as he heads to “the bleakest towns, the worst hotels and the scariest pubs”. And to make matters worse, he does it in the middle of winter. “My primary challenge was to have a good time in places that everyone had said I wouldn’t,” said the author.(跟随他前往“最荒凉的城镇,最糟糕的酒店和最可怕的酒吧”。更糟糕的是,他还在大冬天这么做。“我的主要挑战是在每个人都说我不会去的地方玩得开心,”作者说。)”可知,Tim Moore在最糟糕的天气里去最糟糕的目的地旅行,去人们认为他玩的不会开心的地方寻求快乐,由此可知,Tim Moore在英国旅行时遇到的挑战是在没有吸引力的地方自得其乐。故选D项。 【3题详解】 细节理解题。根据首段“Adventure. New experiences. Interesting people. Read about other people’s exciting travels around the world with these three books.(冒险。新体验。有趣的人。阅读这三本书,了解其他人令人兴奋的世界旅行。)”以及对三本与冒险、新体验和有趣的人相关的书中介绍的独特的世界旅行可知,这三本书的共同点是他们探索独特而富有挑战性的旅行体验。故选C项。 B For 15 years I read the books, took the courses and downloaded the apps to try to become a better person. Nevertheless, none of it helped. I was in my mid-20s when I fell into one of the most toxic relationships of my life. I remember buying my first self-help book, which promised I could be healed of anything. I devoured it in days and was hooked. Over the next 15 years, I bought hundreds of self-help books, courses and apps, and tracked down every self-styled personal improvement expert in the hope that they could teach me how to become happier, more confident and more lovable. Growing up in an environment of addiction and domestic conflict made me vulnerable to the industry’s promises of self-improvement. I believed self-help authors could be the instructors I had never found. My dependency became strong after my father died in 2022. I managed to spend an enormous amount of time reading about how to grieve well instead of doing the right things:sitting with my feelings, allowing myself to cry and processing the loss. My obsession (痴迷) with self-help had become toxic, and something had to give. It started to dawn on me that instead of helping me, the advice was making me feel worse. I talked with a loved one and recognized that in trying to change my life, I was trying to change things that were out of my control. Instead of focusing on who I wanted to become, I had to quit self-help to learn and accept who I really was. Spending time alone, often walking, and listening to my thoughts without trying to silence or change them helped. Since I quit my self-help cane, I’ve realized that focusing all my energy on improving myself can really suck the joy out of life. It makes happiness conditional:only when I look that way can I be loved. It can also stop me from unconditionally accepting my imperfectly perfect self. After a long time, I am finally coming round to the idea that perhaps I never needed fixing at all. 4. Why did the author become obsessed with self-help materials? A. To escape from her family. B. To overcome personal failures. C. To look for a way to kill time. D. To find guides to better herself. 5. What can we learn about the author from Para. 4? A. She often quarreled with her siblings in childhood. B. She became stronger after her father passed away. C. Her upbringing environment greatly influenced her. D. Her long time of reading helped her out of feeling bad. 6. What caused the author to quit her obsession? A. The death of her father. B. A conversation with a loved one. C. The suggestion from an instructor. D. An app on self-improvement. 7. What does the author want to convey in the text? A. Embracing the true self. B. Focusing on the strengths. C. Seeking professional advice. D. Cultivating the positive thinking. D 5. C 6. B 7. 根据第三段“Over the next 15 years, I bought hundreds of self-help books, courses and apps, and tracked down every self-styled personal improvement expert in the hope that they could teach me how to become happier, more confident and more lovable.”(在接下来的15年里,我买了数百本自助书籍、课程和应用程序,并追踪了每一位自称为个人进步专家的人,希望他们能教我如何变得更快乐、更自信、更可爱。) 根据第四段“Growing up in an environment of addiction and domestic conflict made me vulnerable to the industry’s promises of self-improvement.”(在成瘾和家庭冲突的环境中长大,让我很容易受到行业自我提升承诺的影响。) 根据第六段“I talked with a loved one and recognized that in trying to change my life, I was trying to change things that were out of my control.”(我和我爱的人交谈,认识到在试图改变我的生活时,我是在试图改变那些我无法控制的事情。) 根据倒数第二段“Instead of focusing on who I wanted to become, I had to quit self-help to learn and accept who I really was.”(我没有专注于我想成为什么样的人,我不得不放弃自助,去学习和接受真正的我)和最后一段“After a long time, I am finally coming round to the idea that perhaps I never needed fixing at all.”(过了很长一段时间,我终于意识到,也许我根本不需要改变)可以看出,作者想传达的思想是接纳真实的自我,故选A。 C The ocean covers almost three-quarters of the planet. Were all the planet’s water placed over the United States, it would form a column of liquid 132km tall. The ocean provides 3bn people with almost a fifth of their protein (making fish a bigger source of the stuff than beef). Climate and weather systems depend on the temperature patterns of the ocean and its interactions with the atmosphere. If anything ought to be too big to fail, it is the ocean. Humans have long assumed that the ocean’s size allowed them to put anything they wanted into it and to take anything they wanted out. However, changing temperatures and chemistry, overfishing and pollution have stressed its ecosystems for decades. The ocean stores more than nine-tenths of the heat trapped on Earth by greenhouse-gas emissions. Consequently, coral reefs are suffering. Scientists expect almost all corals to be gone by 2050. By the middle of the century the ocean could contain more plastic than fish by weight. Ground down into tiny pieces, it is eaten by fish and then by people, with uncertain effects on human health. Nevertheless, appetite for fish grows: almost 90% of stocks are fished either at or beyond their sustainable limits. The ocean nurtures humanity. Humanity treats it with contempt. Such self-destructive behavior demands explanation. Unarguably, the ocean being subject to a series of laws and agreements, enforcement is hard. Apart from this, two reasons stand out. One is geography. The bulk of the ocean is beyond the horizon and below the waterline. The damage being done to its health is visible in a few liminal places. But for the most part, the sea is out of sight and out of mind. It is telling that there is only a single fleeting reference to the ocean in the Paris agreement on climate change. Second, the ocean is a victim of other bigger processes. The emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere is changing the marine environment along with the rest of the planet. The ocean has warmed by 0. 7℃ since the 19th century, damaging corals and encouraging organisms to migrate towards the poles for cooler waters. Greater concentrations of carbon dioxide in the water are making it more acidic, harming creatures such as crabs and oysters, whose calcium carbonate shells suffer as marine chemistry alters. 8. What is paragraph 1 mainly about? A. The vastness of the ocean. B. The significance of the ocean. C. The ecosystem of the ocean. D. The climate of the ocean. 9. How does the author convey his message in paragraph 3? A. By listing current problems. B. By providing research data. C. By citing expert opinions. D. By comparing different ecosystems. 10. Why does the author mention “the Paris agreement on climate change” in paragraph 4? A. To show people often disobey it. B. To tell us people seldom refer to it. C. To remind us the ocean is vital to man. D. To prove ocean protection is overlooked. 11. What will the author probably write next? A. How to tap into the ocean. B. How to research into the ocean. C. How to rise to the challenges of the ocean. D. How to raise people’s environmental awareness. B 9. A 10. D 11. 根据首段中的“The ocean provides 3bn people with almost a fifth of their protein (making fish a bigger source of the stuff than beef). Climate and weather systems depend on the temperature patterns of the ocean and its interactions with the atmosphere. If anything ought to be too big to fail, it is the ocean.(海洋为30亿人口提供了近五分之一的蛋白质(使鱼类成为比牛肉更大的蛋白质来源)。气候和天气系统取决于海洋的温度模式及其与大气的相互作用。如果有什么东西应该大到不能倒,那就是海洋。)”可知,此处介绍了海洋对民生的重要性以及海洋对环境的重要性,由此可知,第一段主要介绍的是海洋的重要性。故选B项。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“The ocean stores more than nine-tenths of the heat trapped on Earth by greenhouse-gas emissions.(海洋储存了地球上因温室气体排放而滞留的十分之九以上的热量。)”可知,海洋储存着滞留在地球上十分之九以上的热量,结合下文中的“By the middle of the century the ocean could contain more plastic than fish by weight. Ground down into tiny pieces, it is eaten by fish and then by people, with uncertain effects on human health.(到本世纪中期,海洋里的塑料重量将超过鱼类的重量。这些塑料在海水冲刷下磨成细小的碎片,被鱼类吃掉,进而被人类所食,这对人类的健康会造成不确定的影响。)”可知,本段列举了海洋面临的问题:存储因温室气体排放而滞留在地球的热量以及海洋的塑料污染问题,由此可知,作者是通过列举海洋面临的问题来表达信息的。故选A项。 根据第四段中的“Such self-destructive behavior demands explanation. Unarguably, the ocean being subject to a series of laws and agreements, enforcement is hard.(这种自我毁灭的行为需要解释。无可争议的是,海洋受到一系列法律和协议的约束,执行起来很困难。)”以及下文中的“It is telling that there is only a single fleeting reference to the ocean in the Paris agreement on climate change.(在关于气候变化的《巴黎协定》中,对海洋只有一次短暂的提及,这很能说明问题。)” 根据首段“The ocean covers almost three-quarters of the planet. If anything ought to be too big to fail, it is the ocean.(海洋占地球表面的四分之三。 D Fighting fires usually uses water or foam, but these can make a mess and harm the surroundings. To address this, engineers at Ohio State University have now made handheld tools that put out fires cleanly with “ionic (离子的) wind” and vortex (涡流) rings. If you’ve ever blown out a birthday candle, you’ll know that a quick burst of air can be enough to put out a flame. It works by separating the heat from the fuel so it can’t start again. But blowing on a campfire doesn’t help — it’s too big, and you just add oxygen. The new device is like a bigger version of the birthday candle trick. First, it shoots a vortex ring of air that creates wild airflow to split heat and fuel. At the same time, the vortex carries tiny conductive particles (导电颗粒) that ionize the air and make even more vortex. In practice, firefighters would aim this handheld tool at a fire and shoot these “ionic wind” rings to put it out. That would also reduce the expense and cleanup. “Using ionic wind and vortex ring technology, we found a more efficient way to solve an environmental problem that will improve lives,” lead researcher John Larocco said. One of the biggest advantages of this device is that it allows firefighters to put out flames from a safer distance, reducing the risk of injury. Since vortex rings can carry chemicals over long distances, firefighters wouldn’t need to get dangerously close to fires. Much more work still needs to be done, however. For one thing, the devices were tested on groups of candles, which aren’t like real house or forest fires. Testing them against more realistic fires is a priority for future experiments. Still, the team thinks this technology could really work in the real world. The researchers also believe this device could be improved with smart sensors and image analysis, making it more precise in detecting different types of fires. Beyond firefighting, this technology could have future applications in aerospace and industrial safety. 12. Why did engineers at Ohio State University invent the new handheld tools? A. To take full advantage of water and foam. B. To enhance firefighters’ professional skills. C. To abandon traditional firefighting methods. D. To reduce the rescue damage to the environment. 13. What does the author try to illustrate by mentioning the birthday candle in paragraph 2? A. The principle of putting out a flame by air. B. The efficient way to blow out a birthday candle. C. The difference between a small flame and a campfire. D. The reason why blowing on a campfire doesn’t work. 14. Why can the new device lower the risk of injuries? A. It creates stronger wind than other tools. B. It absorbs harmful substances in the smoke. C. It enables users to stay farther from the fire. D. It allows firemen to avoid using chemicals. 15. What is the researchers’ expectation for the new device? A. It will prevent all types of fire. B. It will reform the aerospace industry. C. It will be more intelligent and accurate. D. It will be widely used by ordinary people. D 13. A 14. C 15. 根据“Fighting fires usually uses water or foam, but these can make a mess and harm the surroundings. To address this, engineers at Ohio State University have now made handheld tools that put out fires cleanly with “ionic (离子的) wind” and vortex (涡流) rings. (灭火通常会使用水或泡沫,但这些方法可能会造成混乱并对周围环境造成损害。为了解决这个问题,俄亥俄州立大学的工程师们现在研制出了手持式工具,它们利用“离子风”和涡旋环来干净地扑灭火灾。)”可知,文章第一段提到传统灭火方式会造成混乱并破坏周围环境,为解决这一问题,工程师们制造出一种新型手持工具。故选D。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“If you’ve ever blown out a birthday candle, you’ll know that a quick burst of air can be enough to put out a flame. It works by separating the heat from the fuel so it can’t start again. But blowing on a campfire doesn’t help — it’s too big, and you just add oxygen. (如果你曾经吹灭过生日蜡烛,你就会知道,一股快速吹出的气流就足以扑灭火焰。其原理是将热量与燃料分离开来,这样火焰就无法再次燃烧了。但对着篝火吹气却没什么效果——篝火太大了,你这样做只会增加氧气的供应。)”可知,作者提及生日蜡烛意在说明通过空气扑灭火焰的原理。故选A。 根据第四段“One of the biggest advantages of this device is that it allows firefighters to put out flames from a safer distance, reducing the risk of injury. Since vortex rings can carry chemicals over long distances, firefighters wouldn’t need to get dangerously close to fires. (该设备的最大优势之一在于,它能让消防员在更安全的距离扑灭火焰,从而降低受伤的风险。由于涡旋环能够将化学物质远距离输送,消防员就不必冒险靠近火灾现场了。)”可知,这种装置最大的优点之一是它可以让消防员从更安全的距离扑灭火焰,减少受伤的风险。由于涡流环可以将化学物质携带到很远的地方,消防员不需要危险地靠近火场。故选C。 【15题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“Still, the team thinks this technology could really work in the real world. The researchers also believe this device could be improved with smart sensors and image analysis, making it more precise in detecting different types of fires. Beyond firefighting, this technology could have future applications in aerospace and industrial safety. Life is filled with numerous victories and downfalls; what matters is how you tackle each situation. I went downstairs slowly and tried to walk casually into the kitchen. As I was walking towards the back door, mum asked without looking up from her “dish-washing”, “Where are you going?” I answered back without hesitation, “I am going to the garden to play.” After I got out of the kitchen, I breathed a sign of relief. My plan had worked out fine so far. I climbed the fence and jumped onto the muddy field next to my house and started running towards the bus stop at top speed. After half an hour I was at the beach scanning the crowd for my friends, Jimmy and Bobby. Two young men were racing in the canoes (独木舟). After a while, I saw them near a coconut tree. I ran towards them and got into my swimming trunk (游泳裤). For about an hour, we played volleyball happily. Suddenly, Bobby hit the ball too hard and the ball fell into the sea. Just as Bobby was going to pick up the ball, the tide came in and carried the ball further and further away from the shore. I wanted to show off my swimming skills so I declared to help get the ball for them. I dived into the water and started swimming at a steady pace. After swimming for about ten minutes, I became tired but when I saw that the ball was only a few feet away from me, I put in an extra burst of speed. However, just as I was going to get the ball, a very strong current swept the ball further away from me. At that moment, a string of weed tangled (缠绕) up with my feet and I could not swim properly. I struggled to keep afloat but it was no use. “If I had listened to my parents, this would never have happened,” I thought silently. Paragraph 1 Finally, after struggling for a minute or two, I still got pulled underwater. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2 When I woke up, I was in an empty room lying on a bed. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1 Finally, after struggling for a minute or two, I still got putted underwater. I told myself I should never give up. Then I pulled the weed again with great efforts. The weed finally broke. I swam back to the surface to take a deep breath. I saw two young men in canoes, racing each other. I was exhausted and shouted for help. The two men saw me and raced towards me. By the time they reached me, I had been already unconscious. Paragraph 2 When I woke up, I was in an empty room lying on a bed. It was not until a doctor came into the room that I realized that I was in a hospital. Jimmy and Bobby told me the two young men brought me to the shore and sent me to the hospital. After a few minutes, my parents with half angry and half worried faces walked in. My parents scolded me for running out of the house secretly but were also glad that I was not seriously injured. I will never forget that terrifying experience. Neither will I ever want to show off again. 词汇激活 行为类 ①放弃:give up/ quit ②急忙:race/ hurry ③责备:scold/ blame 情绪类 ①令人害怕的:terrifying/ frightening/ scary ②疲惫:exhausted/ tired 【点睛】[高分句型1] By the time they reached me, I had been already unconscious. C The ocean covers almost three-quarters of the planet. D Fighting fires usually uses water or foam, but these can make a mess and harm the surroundings. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
