(盘锦月考)“Click, click, click…” The drummer gave a beat, and the band started to play. Kai played the guqin solo, and for most of the show, he played along with the drums. The band played faster and faster. Kai's classmates jumped to their feet, cheering and shouting with joy. When the music ended, there was an awkward silence. They all looked at the teachers.
Mr Li asked, “What were you trying to express?”
Kai said, “I wanted to do something different…to modernize the guqin's sound.”
“It's a good try. But you know guqin has over 3,000 years of history. I don't think you've shown its value,” said Mr Li. “We could hardly hear the guqin,” added Miss Zhou. “ I can't give you high marks.”
“Please, can I have another chance?” begged Kai. The teachers finally agreed.
Alone in the hall later, Kai felt a little sad. Miss Zhou came to him and said, “I understand what you were trying to do. But before you can break the rules, you have to master them.”

“Miss Zhou, is it fine to play the guqin with other instruments?”

“Can I make it modern?” Kai asked.

Across Millennia in Ten Square Metres:
A Boy's Spiritual Homeland
A 14yearold boy from Zhengzhou has become very popular online after turning his small bedroom into his own “museum”. Xie Zhaoyutong knows so much about history and talks about it so wisely that people online call him a “young professor”.
His room, named the “Yu Tang Museum”, is only about ten square metres, but it is full of his treasures: old books, ancient coins, pottery, and porcelain pieces. He used almost all his lucky money and saved pocket money to buy these items. At first, he just liked how they looked, but as he learned more, he discovered that every object tells a unique story from the past.
The only empty space in the room is his bed. “This bed is for my body, but all the other things are food for my mind,” he said with a smile. He also finds that his special room helps him spend less time on his phone.
Xie has loved books and old objects since he was very young. He started reading at three or four, and a museum visit with his mum when he was six made him fall in love with history. He believes knowing history well helps him with school subjects like Chinese and makes his life much more interesting.
He doesn't care much about expensive things—he even wears socks with holes—but he truly values his rich inner world. “I keep my material life simple so my spirit has more space to grow,” he explained. “A life without learning is boring.”
For him, reading an ancient book is like hearing someone's thoughts from a thousand years ago. Touching a brick from the Han Dynasty(206BCAD220)lets him imagine life back then. This kind of happiness, he says, is much deeper and longerlasting than any short online fun.
About the future, Xie has clear dreams: he wants to organise his collection properly, keep sharing videos about history and poetry, and hopes to become a “little ambassador” of Chinese culture one day.
