As I walked into the primary school, I looked down at my new black shoes. I stood at Mrs. Blackstone’s door. Before I tried the great escape, the door opened. “We’ve been waiting for you!” Mrs. Blackstone, my new fifth grade teacher, said loudly. With a smile my mom walked away and I was left taking center stage in front of a group of students.
Over the next few days, Mrs. Blackstone made it her job to find me a new best friend. During history lessons, when I didn’t want to speak in front of the class, she’d not only call on me but have me stand up to say something to my classmates.
One spring afternoon, Mrs. Blackstone asked me to stay after class. “I’d like to speak with you, Amanda.” My mind raced. Had I got a bad grade? Had I hurt anyone’s feelings? “Are you enjoying your new school?” She sat comfortably behind her desk. “I want to tell you something, between you and me, not to be shared with anyone else.” She continued, “I see something special in you. The way you communicate with others, and the kindness you show — I think you have great potential to be something important.” I listened carefully to every word. “I have been a teacher for over twenty-five years; I can see it. But you must believe in yourself. That’s very important. Remember that and you’ll go far,” she said.
Her voice was music to my ears that day. I walked out of her office, not staring at my shoes, but looking straight ahead with my head high. My teacher saw something special in me! Years later, her words still remain inside of me.

根据文章第一段“Before I tried the great escape, the door opened. “We’ve been waiting for you!” Mrs. Blackstone, my new fifth grade teacher, said loudly. With a smile my mom walked away and I was left taking center stage in front of a group of students.(我没来得及趁机溜走,门就开了。“我们正等你呢!”Blackstone老师——我五年级的新老师——大声说道。妈妈笑着走开了,只留下我一个人站在一群学生面前,仿佛成了全场的焦点。)”可知,作者是刚转学的新学生,面对新老师、新同学有“试图溜走”以及“在众人面前不自在”等表现,这些都是不适应新环境的体现。故选D。
25.推理判断题。根据文章第三段“One spring afternoon, Mrs. Blackstone asked me to stay after class. “I’d like to speak with you, Amanda.” My mind raced. Had I got a bad grade? Had I hurt anyone’s feelings?(一个春日的下午,Blackstone老师让我课后留下来。“Amanda,我想跟你聊聊。”我的脑子飞速运转:是我考了低分吗?还是我伤到谁的感情了?)”可知,Blackstone老师让作者课后留下时,作者脑子飞速运转,还猜测自己是不是考了低分、是不是伤害了别人,这些表现都体现出她内心的紧张。故选B。
26.细节理解题。根据文章第三段““I see something special in you. The way you communicate with others, and the kindness you show — I think you have great potential to be something important.” I listened carefully to every word. “I have been a teacher for over twenty-five years; I can see it. Some universities in China and around the world are making changes to the ways in which they deliver liberal arts (文科) subjects, with some subjects being removed. These changes have caused a lot of discussion in China with some questioning the long-term benefits of these subjects and others saying their removal is leading to a global reduction in the liberal arts.
Universities have the right and the responsibility to ensure their courses best equip their students to gain more chances in the job market. Education resources tend to be concentrated on science and engineering subjects that lead to better jobs, and this tendency (趋势) is becoming increasingly clear, driven by market demand.
Liberal arts subjects aim to improve life and society. In this sense, the more developed a society is, the more liberal arts are needed. Human development requires liberal arts that keep up with the times. Today, what we need is the kind of humanities and social sciences that can adapt to modern society, which is advancing in science and technology. Liberal arts must welcome the Internet, big data, AI, cloud computing, and so on. The change of liberal arts subjects in universities is unavoidable.
In modern university education, the humanities are increasingly serving as general education. Future-centered humanities education should not and cannot, promise a clear path from specialization to a specific career as natural sciences might. Instead, it should focus on offering a liberal arts education that equips future scientists, technicians, and professionals with humanistic qualities. This education doesn’t provide specific job skills, but aims to cultivate (培养) citizens with critical thinking, cross-cultural awareness, and the ability to think on one’s own. Liberal arts should have the ability to provide effective “public products” for society. They are not material or technological products, but thoughts, discourses (话语), and theories.
28.Why are some liberal arts subjects removed?
A.They are difficult to master. B.Their benefits show slowly.
C.They need more resources. D.Their views are imaginary.
29.How can liberal arts subjects keep up with the times?
A.By providing hands-on chances. B.By focusing on practical topics.
C.By using popular academic terms. D.By opening doors to technologies.
30.Which of the following do liberal arts aim to cultivate?
A.Sense of humour. B.Independent thinking.
C.Self reflection ability. D.Self-learning ability.
31.What is the suitable title for the text?
A.Are liberal arts losing ground? B.Liberal arts: basis for sciences
C.Will liberal arts make changes? D.Liberal arts: searching for truth
【答案】28.B 29.D 30.B 31.A
根据第二段“Universities have the right and the responsibility to ensure their courses best equip their students to gain more chances in the job market. Education resources tend to be concentrated on science and engineering subjects that lead to better jobs, and this tendency (趋势) is becoming increasingly clear, driven by market demand.(大学有责任也有权利确保其课程能够最大程度地帮助学生提升自身能力,从而在就业市场中获得更多机会。教育资源往往倾向于集中于能带来更好就业前景的科学和工程类学科,这种趋势正愈发明显,且是由市场需求所驱动的)”可知,大学为提升学生就业机会,将教育资源更多投向理工科,而文科的价值体现往往需要较长时间,无法直接快速转化为就业优势。由此推知,一些文科科目因“好处显现较慢”而被调整或取消。故选B。
29.细节理解题。根据第三段“Today, what we need is the kind of humanities and social sciences that can adapt to modern society, which is advancing in science and technology. Liberal arts must welcome the Internet, big data, AI, cloud computing, and so on. The change of liberal arts subjects in universities is unavoidable.(如今,我们所需要的是一种能够适应现代社会的人文和社会科学。现代社会在科技方面不断进步。文科必须接纳互联网、大数据、人工智能、云计算等等。大学里文科课程的变革是不可避免的)”可知,文科为适应科技发展的现代社会,必须积极引入并融合互联网、大数据、人工智能等新技术。故选D。
30.细节理解题。根据第四段“This education doesn’t provide specific job skills, but aims to cultivate (培养) citizens with critical thinking, cross-cultural awareness, and the ability to think on one’s own.(这种教育并不传授具体的职业技能,而是旨在培养具有批判性思维、跨文化意识以及独立思考能力的公民)”可知,文科所旨在培养的是独立思考能力。故选B。
故选A。
D
Most people would say they disapprove of breaking rules. But one highly respected university in America is offering a big prize for exactly that.
The Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge will award $250,000 to an individual or a group for breaking rules. One condition, however, the disobedience (不服从) must help society. The MIT Media Lab is seeking nominations (推荐) for candidates from all over the world. The best candidates are doing or have done difficult and important work that is not always recognized. The award is open to people in all fields, including science, politics, law, journalism, medicine and human rights. The Media Lab is looking for rule breakers who have taken a personal risk to help society. The award is the first of its kind at the school.
Joi Ito directs the Media Lab at MIT. He says, “You don’t change the world by doing what you’re told.” But, he says he is not suggesting people break laws or rules without reason. “Sometimes we have to go to first principles (原则) and consider whether the laws or rules are fair, and whether we should question them,” he says.
It suggests that history shows disobedience has served society. He says, “The American Civil Rights Movement wouldn’t have happened without civil disobedience. India would not have achieved independence without the disobedience of Gandhi and his followers. The Boston Tea Party, which we celebrate here in New England, was also quite disobedient.”
Media Lab says the award will not support acts of violence, terrorism or dangerous behaviour.
Reid Hoffman is a businessman and co-founder of the social network, LinkedIn. He is donating the $250, 000 in prize money.
The nominating (提名) period will be open until May 1. Anybody may nominate an individual or a group for the award. Self- nomination is not allowed. Nominations will be accepted on the MIT Media Lab Rewarding Disobedience web page.
Media Lab will present the winner or winners with the prize at a ceremony on July 21st. A short list of candidates will be announced before the event in Massachusetts.
32.The underlined word “that” in Para. 1 refers to “________”.
A.a highly respected university B.the offer of a big prize
C.the act of disobedience D.disapproval of breaking rules
33.Who is likely to get the award?
A.Anyone who often breaks laws. B.Anyone who is self-nominated.
C.Anyone who is not recognized by the public. D.Anyone who disobeys rules to help society.
34.According to Joi Ito, disobedience may ________.
A.lead to unfairness B.produce good results
C.go against laws D.disturb social orders
35.What is the passage mainly about?
A.The duty to disobey. B.The need to behave well.
C.An award of special recognition. D.Reasons for breaking laws in daily life.
根据第一段中的“Most people would say they disapprove of breaking rules. But one highly respected university in America is offering a big prize for exactly that.(大多数人会说他们不赞成违反规则。但美国一所极具声望的大学却正为此行为提供高额奖金。)”可知,前一句提出“违反规则”的话题,后一句的that指代前文提到的同类行为,即违反规则的行为(the act of disobedience)。故选C项。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge will award$250, 000 to an individual or a group for breaking rules. One condition, however, the disobedience must help society.(剑桥市麻省理工学院的媒体实验室将向打破规则的个人或团体颁发25万美元奖金。但有一个条件,这种不服从行为必须有益于社会。)”可知,能够获得该奖项的人是为了造福社会而打破规则的人。故选D项。
34.推理判断题。根据第三段中“You don’t change the world by doing what you’re told.(循规蹈矩是无法改变世界的。)”
根据第一段“Most people would say they disapprove of breaking rules. But one highly respected university in America is offering a big prize for exactly that.(大多数人都会表示不赞成违反规则。但美国一所极具声望的大学,却正为此行为提供高额奖金。)”并结合全文内容可知,文章开篇指出美国一所大学为违反规则的行为提供巨额奖金,接着详细介绍了该奖项的颁发机构、条件、提名方式、奖金来源以及颁奖时间等信息,全文的核心话题就是这一具有特殊认可意义的奖项,故选C项。

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Guiding Children in Choosing After-school Activities
Many children today face stress from school, friends, or competition. Nina Kaiser, a licensed psychologist based in San Francisco, reminds parents that after-school activities should not add more pressure. 36 . Kaiser points out, “Younger kids often try many activities because they are still finding out what they like — and that is normal.” So how can parents help their children choose the right activities?
To begin with, parents should allow children to join in the decision-making. 37 . When they feel that their voices are heard, they often show more energy and excitement toward the activity.
Next, it is necessary to value each child’s personal interests. Every child has different hobbies and talents (天资). If parents force them to do something they dislike, children may feel stressed or upset. 38 . This will make learning easier and more enjoyable.
39 . Sometimes children may want to give up on an activity. Parents do not need to decide right away. Instead, they should talk with the child, wait patiently, and think of possible changes. Through discussion, both sides can find a solution together.
Lastly, parents should avoid putting too much pressure. Not every child will find his or her passion (爱好) right away. It is normal for children to face difficulties at the beginning, especially when they are still learning. 40 .
A.What matters is to study something useful
B.Parents shouldn’t allow them to drop the activity
C.Another key point is to keep open communication
D.Instead, they should give children the chance to learn and grow
E.With patience and support, they will finally find what they love
F.Even younger kids can share their thoughts about what they enjoy
G.A better way is to choose an activity that fits their ability and interest
【答案】36.D 37.F 38.G 39.C 40.E

Dear John,
I understand how frustrating it can be when you often argue with your parents and then fall into silence. It’s totally normal during adolescence, as both sides may have different perspectives, so don’t be too upset.
Here are some suggestions. First, try to calm down and communicate with them patiently when conflicts arise, sharing your thoughts and listening to theirs. Second, understand their care behind strictness — they just want what’s best for you, even if their way feels harsh sometimes.
Hope you can bridge the gap and get along well with your parents soon.
Yours,
Li Hua

As a freshman in high school, Lily found herself struggling with English class. She had always been good at languages, but the pace (节奏) and difficulty of the English class seemed to have suddenly increased. Vocabulary words were more difficult to remember, reading assignments were denser (密度更大), and writing essays seemed like an impossible task.
Lily tried her best to keep up, but she felt like she was constantly falling behind. She spent hours each night trying to make sense of the grammar rules and memorize words, but it seemed that no matter how hard she worked, she just couldn’t figure out anything. Every effort was like a joke, which threw her into helplessness.
To make matters worse, after receiving a particularly low score on a test, Lily felt even more defeated (受挫的). She didn’t know how to ask for help or where to start, tears streaming down her face. She began to wonder if she was just not cut out for high school English.
That evening, Lily’s mother noticed her daughter’s distress (痛苦) and asked her what was wrong. Lily explained her struggles with English and how she felt like she was failing. Her mother listened patiently and then suggested that Lily talk to her English teacher about her difficulties. Considering her awful (糟糕的) performance, she wasn’t sure whether Ms. Thompson would be willing to help her out.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
The next day, Lily nervously walked to Ms. Thompson during her break.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As weeks went on, Lily began to see improvements.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next day, Lily nervously walked to Ms. Thompson during her break. She hesitated for a moment before blurting out her struggles with vocabulary, reading, and writing. To her surprise, Ms. Thompson smiled warmly and said she’d been noticing Lily’s efforts. She suggested a weekly after-class session to break down grammar rules and share memory tricks for words. Ms. Thompson also recommended short, interesting articles to build reading confidence. Lily left the conversation feeling relieved, with a clear plan to catch up.
As weeks went on, Lily began to see improvements. Her vocabulary quizzes scores rose, and she could finish reading assignments without getting stuck. With Ms. Thompson’s guidance, her essays became more coherent, and she even volunteered to share her writing in class. The once-impossible tasks now felt manageable. Lily realized that asking for help wasn’t a sign of weakness, but courage. By the end of the term, she not only passed English with a good grade but also rediscovered her love for languages. She knew her hard work and Ms. Thompson’s support had turned her struggle into success.

C.the act of disobedience D.disapproval of breaking rules
33.Who is likely to get the award?

注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
