Here are four influential ones. John Muir (1838-1914) His lifelong love for hiking began when he hiked to the Gulf of Mexico in 1867. Muir spent much of his adult life wandering in — and fighting to preserve — the wilderness of the West, especially California. His tireless efforts led to the creation of Yosemite National Park, Sequoia National Park, and millions of other conservation areas. Rachel Carson (1907-1964) Born in rural Pennsylvania, Rachel Carson went on to study biology at Johns Hopkins University. After working for the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Carson published The Sea Around Us and other books. Her most famous work, however, was 1962’s Silent Spring, in which she described the harmful environmental effects of pesticides. After Carson’s observations were proven correct, pesticides like DDT were banned. Wangari Maathai (1940-2011) Wangari Maathai was from Kenya. After studying biology in the US, she returned to her home country to begin a career in environmental activism. Maathai founded the Green Belt Movement, which, by the early 21st century, had already planted some 30 million trees, provided jobs, and secured firewood for rural communities. In 2004, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize while continuing to fight for the planet. David Brower (1912-2000) David Brower was associated with wilderness preservation. He became the Sierra Club’s first executive director in 1952, then, over the next 17 years, the club membership grew from 2,000 to 77,000. It won many environmental victories under his leadership. After leaving the club, he went on to found other environmental groups like Friends of the Earth, and the Earth Island Institute. 21.Which environmentalist is a writer?( ) A.John Muir. I wondered how necessary it was and how effective the washing was,” said Subash. “Does it really work to make sure your produce is clean?” That led him to a deep exploration into the world of pesticide use. He was shocked by the results. Research found that 70% of produce in the United States has pesticide residues (农药残留) that may be linked to health issues like cancer. Additionally, washing fruits and vegetables only removes some of these residues. “The current methods of detecting pesticides, designed for at-home use, typically require cutting up the produce, and that results in the produce uneatable,” Subash explained. This motivated him to create Pestiscand, an AI-based handheld pesticide detector. Pestiscand works through spectrophotometry, a way of measuring how light of different wavelengths reflects off the surface of produce. Subash tested his device on over 12,000 samples, including apples, strawberries and tomatoes, to adjust its accuracy. By analyzing the light data, Pestiscand’s AI model can identify the wavelengths associated with pesticide residues, achieving a remarkable detection accuracy of over 85%. This high accuracy meets Subash’s goal of ensuring both effectiveness and speed in detecting pesticides. Subash hopes to bring Pestiscand to market by the time he enters college, allowing people to have an affordable, easy-to-use tool to help make safer food choices. While Subash isn’t sure where life will take him next, he is sure of his love for science — particularly physics. 24.What do the underlined words “a eureka moment” in paragraph 1 mean?( ) A.An outline of a book. Bamboo shoots up when it rains. Its growth is so fast that raw material costs are low. According to researchers at Northeast Forestry University, bioplastic made from bamboo is similar to oil-based plastic in strength, shapeability, and thermal stability (热稳定性), but can decompose (分解) in soil within fifty days. It can also be fully recycled while maintaining 90% of its strength. As plastic pollution worsens, bioplastics — plastics made from natural materials — are gaining popularity, but they still account for only 0.5% of the more than 400 million tons of plastic produced every year. That is because bioplastics have lower mechanical strength than oil-based plastics and are difficult to apply easily in common production processes. The Chinese team developed a method to produce plastic from cellulose, the fibrous component of bamboo. They first treated bamboo by adding zinc chloride (ZnCl2) and a simple acid. In experiments, the team said bamboo-based bioplastic showed mechanical strength outperforming that of conventional plant-based bioplastic. In tests of mechanical and thermal stability and shapeability, bamboo-based bioplastic demonstrated its potential as an industrial alternative. The development of bamboo-based bioplastic by researchers at Northeast Forestry University represents a significant advancement in the pursuit of sustainable development. With its impressive mechanical properties and biodegradability, bamboo-based bioplastic stands out as a promising candidate for reducing plastic waste and reliance on oil. However, the path to future widespread adoption requires overcoming challenges related to production scalability (可扩展性) and market acceptance. As industries explore the potential of bamboo-based bioplastic, the question remains: Can this innovation truly replace traditional plastics and transform our approach to sustainable production? 28.What can we learn about the bamboo-based bioplastic?( ) A.It is a sustainable plastic alternative. B.It is difficult to break down in soil naturally. C.It loses original strength when decomposing. D.It is second to oil-based plastics in shapability. 29.What is the key advantage of bamboo-based bioplastic over past bioplastic?( ) A.Simpler recycling process. B.Higher mechanical strength. C.Cheaper raw materials. D.Lower carbon footprint. 30.What is a challenge for the widespread use of bamboo-based bioplastic?( ) A.Market recognition. B.Production process. C.Thermal stability. D.Technology innovation. 31.What can be a suitable title for the text?( ) A.Bamboo: The Green Steel B.Bamboo: Can It Save Our Planet? C.Bamboo-based Bioplastic: Is It Really Eco-friendly? D.Bamboo-based Bioplastic: Strong Material, Greener Future 解析:D 标题归纳题。 D (2026•山西名校高二上期中)Tens of thousands of people bleed to death each year before they can get to a hospital. That’s because ambulances can’t routinely carry blood, which would fail to work without sufficient refrigeration. So scientists have been on a quest to develop artificial blood that could be stored in powdered (粉状的) form and could be mixed with water on the spot to save lives. Some of this research is being conducted at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. Allan Doctor’s team makes artificial blood from hemoglobin The researchers obtain hemoglobin from outdated blood and enclose it in a bubble (泡) of fat, essentially creating artificial red blood cells for use. This protective bubble is the innovation that Allan thinks will solve the safety problems caused by other attempts at making artificial blood. Other efforts also used hemoglobin, but unprotected hemoglobin can be poisonous to organs. “We have to hide the hemoglobin inside a cell. It’s an artificial cell that makes it safe and effective,” Allan says. The scientists then freeze-dry the artificial red blood cells into a powder that can stay good until an emergency. It’s designed so that at the moment it’s needed, medics can mix it with water and within a minute they have blood. It has a long shelf life for years, and it can be easily transported. Allan’s team has applied their artificial blood to hundreds of injured rabbits and so far it looks safe and effective. While the results so far seem positive, Allan says he still needs to prove that his artificial blood would be safe and effective for people. “I think it’s a reasonable approach,” says Tim Estep, a scientist who consults with companies developing artificial blood. “But because this field has been so challenging, the proof will be in the clinical trials,” he adds. “While I’m overall optimistic, placing a bet on any one technology right now is overall difficult.” 32.Why do scientists develop artificial blood?( ) A.To save the space of ambulances. B.To deal with blood storage issue. C.To save those who bleed heavily. D.To replace the outdated blood. 33.What is the function of bubble of fat to hemoglobin?( ) A.To speed up its reproduction. B.To remove its harm to organs. C.To keep it from forming cells. D.To make its freeze-drying easy. 34.What highlights the powdered artificial blood?( ) A.It won’t go bad easily. B.It functions without water. C.It produces rapid effects. D.It cuts down patients’ costs. 35.What is Tim Estep’s attitude towards Allan’s artificial blood?( ) A.Careful. B.Doubtful. Here’s why I believe it’s true. Your attention is a filter (过滤器). Every moment, you’re flooded by information, thoughts, feelings, and impulses (冲动). What you focus on, whether by choice or by force, becomes your reality. The things you attend to register as targets in your brain and shape your behaviour. 36. That’s why two people can sit in the same room, experience the same events, yet have completely different days. One notices the annoyances and frustrations and the things going wrong. 37. It’s the same external reality, but very different internal experiences. Concentration really is the foundation of everything meaningful. You can’t read deeply, listen fully, learn effectively, or connect authentically without the ability to direct and maintain your attention. Most knowledge workers who struggle to be productive think they have time management problems. 38. You could have all the time in the world, but if your attention is broken, constantly controlled by notifications and impulses, that time becomes worthless. 39. And like any skill, it can be trained. Every time you bring your wandering mind back to the present task, you’re doing a mental exercise. Every time you resist the pull of a distraction, you’re building strength. In a world where big tech is spending billions upon billions of dollars in tracking and breaking your attention, developing this skill gives you an incredible advantage over others. 40. While others are controlled by their impulses, you can choose your focus. When AI is replacing your colleagues, you’re doing important creative work that your boss values and can’t replace. A.Attention is a skill. B.Everything else fades into background noise. C.Your attention is the most valuable resource you have. D.I think they actually have attention management problems. E.The other sees opportunities, moments of beauty and reasons to be grateful. F.While everyone else is drowning in shallow engagement, you can go deep. G.People who can maintain focus report higher life satisfaction and achievement. The things you attend to register as targets。 (2026•河北省部分学校高二上月考)We can’t force kids to learn. Ultimately, it shapes us into thoughtful, independent individuals who keep exploring and progressing. (2026•辽宁省高二上期末)One sunny afternoon, Max was exploring his backyard. With bright eyes full of curiosity, Max loved discovering new things. Today, he found an old soccer ball half-buried under the large oak tree. Excitedly, he dusted it off and kicked it, watching as it rolled across the grass. “Whoa, Max! Nice kick!” called his mom. Max smiled at the praise and kicked the ball again, harder this time, sending it bouncing off the fence. At dinner that evening, Max announced, “Mom, Dad, I want to play soccer like the big kids at school.” His parents exchanged a glance and smiled. “That sounds like a great idea, Max,” said his dad. “There’s a soccer club starting next week. We can sign you up.” Max was thrilled. All week he practiced in the yard. His little sister, Lily, would clap her hands and cheer, “Go Max, go!” But when the first day of soccer practice came, Max felt nervous. The other kids seemed so skilled and confident. He watched as they easily dribbled (运球) the ball around markers. When it was Max’s turn, he stumbled (绊倒) and fell. Some of the kids laughed. Max’s cheeks burned with embarrassment. “Don’t worry, Max,” Coach Tom smiled. “Everyone starts somewhere. The important thing is to keep trying.” Max nodded, though his heart felt heavy. He wondered if he’d ever be as good as the other children. As the days passed, Max’s confidence weakened. Each mistake on the field felt bigger than the last. He wanted to improve but feared the others’ laughter. During lunch breaks, he would sit alone, practicing moves in his head. One day, as he sat quietly on the swing after school, his friend Emma joined him. “Why so sad, chum?” she asked. Max sighed and told her about his soccer struggles. Emma listened carefully and then said, “You know, the best way to get better at something is to practice a lot. Maybe we could practice together after school?” Max cheered up at the idea. Soon, it was time for Max’s first soccer game. Max cheered up at the idea. He nodded eagerly, a spark of hope returning to his eyes. After school, they met at the park. Emma was patient and encouraging. She showed him how to keep the ball close to his feet while running and how to kick it straight. At first, Max stumbled again, but Emma didn’t laugh. Instead, she helped him up and said, “Mistakes are just steps to getting better.” Max practiced every day, and slowly, his movements became smoother. He even started to enjoy the game again. His confidence grew with each successful dribble. Soon, it was time for Max’s first soccer game. His heart pounded as he walked onto the field. The other team looked strong, and Max felt nervous. But then he saw Emma on the sidelines, holding a sign that read “Go Max!” He took a deep breath and remembered all their practice. In the second half, Max got the ball. He dribbled past two players and kicked it into the goal! The crowd cheered. Max couldn’t believe it. Coach Tom patted his back, and his teammates high-fived him. Max smiled, feeling proud and happy. He realized that with hard work and friends by his side, anything was possible.
