We live in a town with three beaches. There are two parks less than 10 minutes’ walk from home where neighbourhood children gather to play. However, what my children want to do after school is pick up a screen — any screen — and stare at it for hours. They are not alone. Today’s children spend an average of four and a half hours a day looking at screens, split between watching television and using the Internet.
In the past few years, an increasing number of people and organizations have begun coming up with plans to counter this trend. A couple of years ago, filmmaker David Bond realized that his children, then aged five and three, were attached to screens to the point where he was able to say “chocolate” into his three-year-old son’s ear without getting a response.
He realized that something needed to change, and, being a London media type, appointed himself “marketing director for Nature”. He documented his journey as he began to treat nature as a brand to be marketed to young people. The result was Project Wild Thing, a film which charts the birth of the Wild Network, a group of organizations with the common goal of getting children out into nature.
“Just five more minutes outdoors can make a difference,” David Bond says. “There is a lot of really interesting evidence which seems to be suggesting that if children are inspired up to the age of seven, then being outdoors will be a habit for life.” His own children have got into the habit of playing outside now: “We just send them out into the garden and tell them not to come back in for a while.”
Summer is upon us. There is an amazing world out there, and it needs our children as much as they need it. Let us get them out and let them play.
4.What is the problem with the author’s children?
A.They often annoy the neighbours. B.They are tired of doing their homework.
C.They have no friends to play with. D.They stay in front of screens for too long.
5.How did David Bond support his idea?
A.By making a documentary film. B.By organizing outdoor activities.
C.By advertising in London media. D.By creating a network of friends.
6.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “charts” in Paragraph 3?
A.Records. B.Advises. C.Carries. D.Needs.
7.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Let Children Have Fun B.Young Children Need More Free Time
C.Market Nature to Children D.David Bond: A Role Model for Children
【答案】4.D 5.A 6.A 7.C
根据第一段中的“However, what my children want to do after school is pick up a screen — any screen — and stare at it for hours.(然而,我的孩子们放学后想做的就是拿起一块屏幕——随便什么屏幕——盯着看上好几个小时。)”
根据第三段中的“He documented his journey as he began to treat nature as a brand to be marketed to young people. The result was Project Wild Thing, a film which charts the birth of the Wild Network, a group of organizations with the common goal of getting children out into nature.(他记录下自己的这段历程,同时开始把大自然当作一个可以向青少年推广的品牌。于是就有了Project Wild Thing这部影片,该片记述了 “野外网络” 的诞生;这是一批组织机构,它们有着共同目标:让孩子们走进大自然。)”可知,David Bond通过拍摄一部纪录影片来支撑自己的理念。
6.词义猜测题。根据第三段中的“The result was Project Wild Thing, a film which charts the birth of the Wild Network, a group of organizations with the common goal of getting children out into nature.(于是就有了Project Wild Thing这部影片,一部charts野生网络诞生的影片,该组织联盟的共同目标是让孩子们走进大自然。)”
根据第三段“He realized that something needed to change, and, being a London media type, appointed himself “marketing director for Nature”. He documented his journey as he began to treat nature as a brand to be marketed to young people.(他意识到有些现状必须做出改变。作为一名伦敦媒体从业者,他给自己任命了一个头衔 ——“大自然营销总监”。他将自己的这段经历记录下来,同时开始把大自然视作一个可以向青少年推广的品牌。)”可知,文章围绕David Bond把自然当作品牌向孩子推广,鼓励孩子走向户外展开,C项“Market Nature to Children (向孩子推广自然)”为最佳标题。

In the age of fast-developing social media, many young people are used to “fast socializing”: adding hundreds of friends online, sending quick, empty greetings, and joining endless, meaningless group chats. Some young people even have thousands of online friends, but can’t find a single person to talk to when they are in a bad mood. But in recent years, more and more young people in China are turning to “slow socializing” and choosing to give up those meaningless social connections.
Slow socializing means building deep, long-term relationships with a small group of like-minded people, instead of making a large number of “friends” online. It focuses on true and deep communication, rather than the number of online followers or likes on posts. For example, instead of sending a copied holiday greeting to hundreds of people, you have a long face-to-face talk with a close friend, or read a book together with a person who shares the same interest.
Many young people say fast socializing only brings them growing pressure and a sense of emptiness. They have to spend a lot of time keeping online connections, but still feel lonely and helpless when they meet real trouble. On the contrary, slow socializing brings them a strong sense of safety and belonging (归属感). They no longer care about the number of friends, but focus on building real, heart-to-heart connections with people who truly understand them. A 2025 national survey found that over 68% of young people aged 16-25 prefer slow socializing, and most of them have a healthier mind than those who prefer fast socializing.
I believe that slow socializing is not refusing to make friends, but choosing the right way to connect with others. In a fast-paced society, it helps young people focus on the people and things that really matter.
8.What is a key feature of slow socializing?
A.It focuses on true communication.
B.It needs a lot of online followers.
C.It happens in holiday greetings.
D.It requires a large friend circle.
9.What does the 2025 survey show?
A.Fast socializing makes young people popular.
B.Most young people hate online socializing.
C.Slow socializing is good for young people’s minds.
D.Less than half of young people prefer slow socializing.
10.What is the writer’s attitude towards slow socializing?
A.Doubtful. B.Supportive. C.Disapproving. D.Uncaring.
11.What is the main idea of the text?
A.The harm of social media to young people.
B.The ways to reduce social pressure.
C.The importance of true friendship.
D.The rise and value of slow socializing.

It focuses on true and deep communication, rather than the number of online followers or likes on posts.
根据第三段“A 2025 national survey found that over 68% of young people aged 16-25 prefer slow socializing, and most of them have a healthier mind than those who prefer fast socializing. (2025年的一项全国调查发现,超过68%的16-25岁年轻人更喜欢慢速社交,他们中的大多数人比那些喜欢快速社交的人拥有更健康的心理)”可知,2025年的调查显示慢速社交有益于心理健康。

In a fast-paced society, it helps young people focus on the people and things that really matter.
根据第一段“But in recent years, more and more young people in China are turning to “slow socializing” and choosing to give up those meaningless social connections. (但近年来,中国越来越多的年轻人转向“慢速社交”,并选择放弃那些无意义的社交关系)”以及全文内容可知,文章先描述快社交的弊端,再介绍慢社交的定义、优势及调查数据,最后表达作者的支持,整体围绕慢社交的兴起和其价值展开。

The decision to delay (延迟) morning arrival times in Nanjing has caused a wide discussion about how to balance students’ academic (学业的) needs with their health. While some people support the change, others worry about its possible effects.
Supporters of the policy argue that sleep is very important for teenagers’ growth. They point out that students who do not get enough sleep often feel tired, worried, or unable to focus. In contrast, well-rested students are more likely to take an active part in class and perform better in exams. Some experts also note that a good breakfast plays an important role in students’ health and learning. With a later start time, students can have enough time to eat well and prepare for the day.
People who disagree with the policy, however, express concerns about the influence on academic performance. They argue that reducing morning study time might lead to lower grades, especially for students who need more practice or review. Some parents worry that students will become lazy if they do not have to get up early. They also question whether schools can really improve classroom efficiency (效率) enough to make up for the lost time.
To better study the effects of the new schedule, education departments in Nanjing plan to collect feedback from students, parents, and teachers over the next few months. They will record changes in students’ sleep quality, attendance rates (出勤率), and academic performance. If the results show that the policy is beneficial, it may be carried out in more schools. If problems arise, further changes may be made.
In the long run, experts suggest that improving students’ well-being requires the efforts of schools, families, and society. Schools should not only change schedules but also improve teaching quality. Parents should help their children develop good sleep habits and create a quiet environment at home. Students themselves should learn to manage their time wisely and avoid staying up late. Only in this way can the goal of reducing burden and improving quality be truly achieved.
12.What do supporters of the policy believe?
A.Students should get up as early as possible.
B.Sleep is not important for academic performance.
C.Well-rested students are more likely to perform better.
D.After-school services are more important than sleep.
13.How does the author develop the argument in the passage?
A.By listing historical events related to education.
B.By presenting both supporting and opposing views.
C.By describing personal experiences of students.
D.By comparing different countries’ school systems.
14.What can we learn from the passage?
A.The policy will be carried out in all schools in Nanjing.
B.Schools play a more important role than families in students’ well-being.
C.Students can make up for lost learning time by studying more efficiently.
D.The new schedule will probably be changed according to future results.
15.What is the passage mainly about?
A.The benefits of delayed school start times.
B.The reasons for students’ sleep problems.
C.The importance of after-school services.
D.The discussion about delayed school start times and their effects.
【答案】12.C 13.B 14.D 15.D

Starting high school can be both exciting and challenging. It’s a time of new beginnings, new friends, and new responsibilities. Here are some tips to help you make a smooth transition.
Get organized from day one. High school brings more subjects, more homework, and more deadlines than middle school. 16 Keep a planner or use a digital calendar to track assignments, tests, and important dates. Set aside a specific time each day for homework and review. This simple habit will prevent last-minute panic.
Build positive relationships with your teachers. Unlike middle school, high school teachers often see hundreds of students each day. 17 Don’t be afraid to ask questions in class or seek extra help after school. Showing that you are motivated and engaged can make a big difference.
Get involved in school activities. One of the best ways to feel connected to your new school is to join clubs, sports teams, or volunteer groups. 18 It also helps you develop new skills and interests outside the classroom. Don’t worry if you don’t find your perfect fit right away—try different activities and see what you enjoy.
19 Many students feel pressure to fit in, but the friends who accept you for who you are will be the ones worth keeping. Don’t change yourself just to impress others.
Take care of your health. 20 Eat balanced meals, get enough sleep, and make time for exercise. A healthy body supports a healthy mind, and both are essential for academic success.
A.These activities can help you meet people who share similar interests.
B.Be yourself.
C.Make a good first impression on the first day of school.

Good morning, Mr. Smith and everyone.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
Good morning, Mr. Smith and everyone. Regarding our homework, I believe independent thinking must always come first.
Why? Primarily, struggling with tough assignments independently is what builds deep understanding and sharpens logical skills. Relying on AI shortcuts would only breed laziness. It robs us of the growth that comes from solving problems. However, this doesn’t mean banning technology. We can properly use AI to tackle extremely challenging problems, but only after we have thoroughly thought them through ourselves. Used this way, AI becomes a valuable partner in learning rather than a substitute for our own intelligence.
Let’s use AI tools wisely to become better, independent learners. Thank you!

With time going by, Mother’s Day was around the corner. Maybe it is the happiest day for every mother. Bruce, a boy of nine years old, with his little sister Alina, six years old, wanted their mother to be one of them. But they were too young to get a job, even if it was a part-time one. What could they do? There was only one week left. They felt sad whenever they thought their mother would spend her Mother’s Day without carnations (康乃馨).
Money is hard to make. Buying a bunch of carnations would cost a large sum of money for them. One day when they were wandering at the street, they heard Mr. Green was complaining that he had no time to wash those soda pop bottles. It is a kind of soda pop sold in bottles and the bottles can be washed and filled again. Mr. Green ran that grocery shop by himself, so he had no time to wash them. “Would you like to try, Alina?” Bruce asked his sister suddenly. Alina nodded her head without hesitation. After all, both of them knew that maybe it was an opportunity for them to make money for the flowers.
They walked a few steps and came near Mr. Green. They looked up at Mr. Green and asked whether they could help him to wash those bottles. Mr. Green looked at them curiously until he was told the reason. He agreed and promised that he would pay 0.1 dollar for every bottle. Bruce and Alina were very happy even though they knew they would have a busy week.
They came to Mr. Green’s shop in the next seven days when they came back from school. On the morning of Mother’s Day, they got the pay — 6.1 dollars. The boy also had 0.3 dollar saved.
So with a total of 6.4 dollars they walked about a mile to a flower shop. When they came inside, someone asked what they wanted. They told him they wanted to buy some carnations for their mother. The boy reached into his pocket and pulled out their cash, asking if that would be enough.
“But, your money is not enough!” said the shop assistant.

“But, your money is not enough!” said the shop assistant. “Even for the smallest bunch?” Bruce asked quickly and eagerly, not believing his ears. “Not enough!” the shop assistant answered clearly, with the explanation that carnations were the most expensive flowers these days because of Mother’s Day. They were too disappointed to hear that! Bruce hopelessly put the money back into his pocket.
“Wait a moment, please!” another gentleman waved to them. “I just have some carnations on sale which are a little small but pretty. Would you like to have a look? Only two dollars!” Bruce nodded at once. “Just a minute!” The gentleman went in the shop and came out with a bunch of carnations with paper wrapping around them. He only took two dollars, and also gave a Mother’s Day card as a gift. “Thank you very much,” Bruce bowed to the gentleman and they walked home proudly carrying the flowers for Mum. They couldn’t wait to see her smiling face.

C
D
