Passage A(旅行感受)
On April 26, 2022, Italian traveler Vienna Cammarota set off from Venice. The 72-year-old then planned to go to China on foot. This meant she would travel about 22,000 kilometers and walk through 15 countries. The journey would be full of challenges, but she wasn’t afraid.
The traveler carried only a bag. “I also have a lot of interests with me,” she said. On August 29, 2024, she finally set foot on China’s land.
Cammarota’s trip was encouraged by Marco Polo. The Italian explorer traveled to China along the ancient Silk Road more than 700 years ago. For her, the journey was more than following Marco Polo’s footsteps. She wanted to see what China’s Belt and Road Initiative had brought to the land. By sharing her experiences, she now hopes her travels will help people in the West see the true beauty of China.
Cammarota’s interest in China began more than 20 years ago. A Chinese student stayed in her home and told her a lot about the country’s rich cultural heritage.
Cammarota plans to spend two years in China. She will visit key stops along the ancient Silk Road: first Kashgar (喀什), Dunhuang, and then the historic city of Xi’an. After that she’ll visit Suzhou, the city described as the “Venice of the East” by Marco Polo. She plans to end her trip in Beijing to mark the 750th anniversary of Marco Polo’s arrival to China.
Cammarota calls herself an ambassador (大使) of cultural exchange and a modern-day Marco Polo. “I want people to know about the Silk Road,” she said. “I also want to send a message to women my age: It’s never too late to go for your dreams.”
1. What did Vienna Cammarota carry on her way to China?
A. A bag. B. Italian food. C. Interesting maps. D. Some silk.
2. How long did it take Cammarota to reach China from Venice?
A. Less than 2 years. B. About 2.5 years. C. More than 4 years. D. About 20 years.
3. Which of the following probably shows Cammarota’s travelling route (线路) in China?
A. B. C. D.
4. What can we learn about Vienna Cammarota from the text?
A. She was nervous about how difficult the journey would be.
B. She wants to encourage young women to follow their dreams.
C. She became interested in China after studying Chinese in China.
D. She hopes to build a better understanding between the East and West.
A 2. B 3. A 4. D

根据“The traveler carried only a bag.” 故选A。
根据“On April 26, 2022, Italian traveler Vienna Cammarota set off from Venice.”和“On August 29, 2024, she finally set foot on China’s land.”
根据“She will visit key stops along the ancient Silk Road: first Kashgar, Dunhuang, and then the historic city of Xi’an. After that she’ll visit Suzhou... She plans to end her trip in Beijing.” 故选A。
根据“By sharing her experiences, she now hopes her travels will help people in the West see the true beauty of China.”
This meant she would travel about 22,000 kilometers and walk through 15 countries.
主句是 "This meant...",后面紧跟的 "she would travel... and walk through..." 在宾语从句内部,包含了一个由 "and" 连接的并列谓语结构:"would travel about 22,000 kilometers" 和 "(would) walk through 15 countries",说明了这次旅行的具体规模。
For her, the journey was more than following Marco Polo’s footsteps.
表语部分 "more than following Marco Polo’s footsteps" 中,"more than" 是固定搭配,意为“不仅仅是、超过”,后面接动名词短语 "following Marco Polo’s footsteps" 作宾语,强调了这次旅行意义的丰富性,超越了单纯的模仿。

Passage B(北京天坛)
On May 14, 2026, Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump visited the Temple of Heaven. They took a photo in front of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests. The Temple of Heaven is a symbol of Beijing. 1
The Temple of Heaven was built in 1420 during the Ming Dynasty. For nearly 500 years, emperors came here to pray (祈祷) for good harvests and peace. The design is special. It follows the idea of “round heaven and square earth”. 2 All the main buildings use blue tiles to show the sky. This shows ancient Chinese ideas about the universe. It is a great example of the wisdom and art talent of ancient Chinese people.
The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is the most famous building there. It is a large wooden building with 28 huge pillars. These pillars have special meanings. The four inner pillars stand for the four seasons. 3 The 12 outer pillars stand for the 12 two-hour periods of a day. Many other buildings in Beijing were built in the same style.
More than just a historical relic, the Temple of Heaven has long been part of the daily life of local people. Every early morning, many people come here to practise tai chi and relax. It brings together rich history and the relaxing daily life of local people.
4 At this time of year, warm temperatures and pleasant natural views offer visitors an excellent sightseeing experience. It is very easy to get to the Temple of Heaven by underground or bus.
Today, the Temple of Heaven is not only a witness to China’s long history but also a bridge for cultural exchange. 5 It also shows the beauty of Chinese culture to visitors from all over the world.
A. The 12 middle pillars represent the 12 months.
B. It tells people the wonderful traditions of ancient China.
C. It is very famous for its long history and beautiful design.
D. Spring and autumn are considered the best time to visit there.
E. The northern walls are round, and the south walls are square.
F. Visitors can learn about Beijing life after seeing the famous place.
C 2. E 3. A 4. D 5. B
前文提到“The Temple of Heaven is a symbol of Beijing.”,简单点明天坛是北京地标,后文整段开始介绍天坛建造历史、独特建筑设计。选项C“It is very famous for its long history and beautiful design.”
2. 前文提到“It follows the idea of ‘round heaven and square earth’.”,本空需要具象化解释“天圆地方”的建筑体现,选项E“The northern walls are round, and the south walls are square.”
A“The 12 middle pillars represent the 12 months.”
4. 后文“At this time of year”存在指代,且描写温和宜人的游览环境,选项D“Spring and autumn are considered the best time to visit there.”
B“It tells people the wonderful traditions of ancient China.”
Today, the Temple of Heaven is not only a witness to China’s long history but also a bridge for cultural exchange.
分析:本句使用not only… but also…(不仅…… 主语是the Temple of Heaven;Today是时间状语。not only后接表语a witness to China’s long history,to China’s long history介词短语作后置定语修饰witness;but also后接表语a bridge for cultural exchange,for cultural exchange介词短语作后置定语修饰bridge。
More than just a historical relic, the Temple of Heaven has long been part of the daily life of local people.
More than just a historical relic是形容词短语作让步状语;主语the Temple of Heaven;谓语has long been,现在完成时;表语part of the daily life of local people;of local people介词短语作后置定语修饰life。

Passage 2
When 14-year-old Emily Brown from London first arrived in Lianyungang as an exchange student, she felt completely lost. “The food was so different, the language sounded like music I couldn’t understand, and I missed my mom’s cooking terribly,” she recalls. Like many exchange students, she experienced what scientists call “culture shock”—a feeling of confusion and anxiety when facing a new and unfamiliar environment.
However, instead of hiding in her room, Emily decided to face the challenge head-on. She started by learning to cook local dishes with her host family. “The first time I tried to make dumplings, they looked more like little boats than proper dumplings,” she laughs. “But my host mother, Mrs. Wang, never laughed at me. She just smiled and showed me how to fold the dough again and again.”
Gradually, Emily began to discover the beauty of Lianyungang. She visited the Huaguo Mountain, where she was fascinated by the stories of the Monkey King. She walked along the seaside, collecting colorful shells and watching fishermen bring in their daily catch. She even joined a local calligraphy club, where she learned to write Chinese characters with a brush.
“The most important thing I’ve learned is that different doesn’t mean wrong,” Emily says. “In the UK, we usually finish all the food on our plates to show we enjoyed the meal. But in China, my host family often left a little food to show they were full and satisfied. At first, I was confused, but now I understand that both are just different ways of being polite.”
Professor Zhang Wei, who studies cultural exchange at Lianyungang Normal University, says Emily’s experience is valuable. “What Emily did is exactly what we hope all young people can do—embrace differences with an open mind and a brave heart. In today’s globalized world, this ability is more important than ever.”
By the end of her six-month stay, Emily could make dumplings that looked almost as good as Mrs. Wang’s, and she gave a speech in Chinese at her school’s farewell party. “I came here as a stranger,” she said, “but I’m leaving as part of a family.”
1. How did Emily feel when she first arrived in Lianyungang?
A. Excited and curious. B. Confused and anxious.
C. Angry and disappointed. D. Tired and sleepy.
2. What did Emily do to deal with her difficulties?
A. She stayed in her room most of the time.
B. She called her mom for help every day.
C. She actively learned about local culture.
D. She asked to change to a different host family.
3. What does the underlined word “embrace” in Paragraph 5 most probably mean?
A. refuse B. accept C. remember D. protect
4. What lesson can we learn from Emily’s story?
A. East or west, home is best.
B. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
C. Different cultures can enrich our lives.
D. Learning Chinese is too difficult.
B 2. C 3. B 4. C
第一段最后一句“...experienced what scientists call ‘culture shock’—a feeling of confusion and anxiety...”
2. 第二段“...instead of hiding in her room, Emily decided to face the challenge head-on. She started by learning to cook local dishes...”
3. 第五段句子“...embrace differences with an open mind and a brave heart...”
Passage 1
(2025-2026·广东广州期末考)Have you ever been on an exchange program? In our school’s online space, we have exchange students sharing their real experiences, from host family relationships to funny memories. What would you share? Show us your own story!
Daria: I think at first it was a little bit challenging to get used to the life there. The shock was the type of family for me because I never had any brothers or sisters and now I have 4. I tried to talk and go out with them as much as I can to meet them better. Don’t close yourself in your room. That is my advice for future students. The host family probably would like to meet you more and they would like to spend a good time with you and make this experience good and memorable for you.
Amina: I was sick one day. I was missing my mom’s soup, so I asked my host mom if she could make me my favorite chicken soup—what she made was really good, but chicken soup in the U. S. is totally different. I was sad at first because I couldn’t eat something that tasted like home. However, I realize it’s probably common for a lot of students that food is different from that at home.
Julia: What I will miss most about my host family is the warmth and love. At first, I was surprised by the slang (俚语) words, which were totally different from the English I learned from textbooks. When I had difficulty understanding, they never laughed but patiently listened and taught me. I’ll miss our late-night talks, the support they’ve given me, and the feeling of home they created for me.
1. What kind of person do you think Daria is?
A. Hard-working. B. Honest.
C. Outgoing. D. Helpful.
2. What was Amina’s problem?
A. She missed the food at home. B. She missed her friends so much.
C. She didn’t like American food at all. D. She was always sick in another country.
3. Which is NOT the culture shock mentioned in the passage?
A. Languages. B. Food.
C. Late-night talks. D. The type of family.
根据Daria所说的话“I tried to talk and go out with them as much as I can... Don’t close yourself in your room.”
2. 根据Amina所说的话“I was missing my mom’s soup...I was sad at first because I couldn’t eat something that tasted like home.”
(The shock was the type of family);Amina提到了食物的差异(food is different);Julia提到了语言的差异(slang words...totally different)。
Passage 2
People in the West name their family members in different ways
I came to China many years ago, but I still have problems calling my Chinese husband’s relatives the right names. There are many differences in what we call our family members in China and the West.
Remembering the right names
Every time I visit my husband’s family in China, I feel nervous. His two aunties come and I can never remember their names. Are they “Xiao Gu” or “Er Gu” or something else?
In English-speaking countries, for aunts and uncles, we just add their names at the end, for example: “Aunt Jenny”, or just call them by their first name.
However, something similar to Chinese happens in my family, too. My dad and cousin are both named Anthony. So, we call them “big Anthony” and “little Anthony”!
When in Rome do as the Romans do
In China, it is a tradition to call your parents-in-law (配偶的父母) “Mom” and “Dad”. Though it made me feel a little uncomfortable, I took up this custom because my husband is Chinese.
My husband started doing the same for my parents, but I told him to just call them by their first names. That’s what we do back in Australia. Then, my mom called me to ask why my husband stopped calling her “Mom”. I said it was because I told him to. “But I like him calling me ‘Mom’”, she said. My mom must be Chinese at heart!
1. How does the author feel when visiting her husband’s family in China?
A. Excited. B. Nervous. C. Confused. D. Uncomfortable
2. In English-speaking countries, how do people usually call their aunts and uncles?
A. By their full names. B. By their titles only.
C. By adding their names at the end. D. By calling them “big” or “little” plus their names.
3. Why did the author’s husband stop calling her mom “Mom”?
A. Because he forgot her name.
